Her last chance at solvency, she decides to drive to Los Angeles to see if there is a will. Aurora is always ready for the next get rich scheme.Aurora's high-strung daughter, 43-year-old Leyla Feldenburg Rothstein, is a hypersensitive, insecure, perfectionist, insomniac, emotionally damaged from her father's lifelong abuse and rejection. She is married to a wealthy, Jewish prince charming, investment banker who specializes in the legal Cannabis industry.Aurora and Leyla's separate quests intersect and enmesh in Los Angeles over the course of a weekend, where they both end up staying with cousins, quirky, endearing, Sephardic Jews who speak Ladino, mostly in proverbs and cook prodigious quantities of delicacies from the old country, the island of Rhodes. When Aurora's meager inheritance is stolen, she drags Leyla into a ludicrous chase. Unable to resist the pull from the trauma bond she shares with her infuriating mother, Leyla fails to adhere to her boundaries, even after years of therapy. She risks losing everything to another one of Aurora's harebrained schemes.Their entangled journeys and the chaotic, catastrophic outcome are the last straw for Leyla who must break free from her mother's toxic dependency and destructive attachment to save herself, her marriage, and her young family.https://lisafrosenberg.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

Andy and Brendan start this Wednesday episode by wishing for the return of landline phones as society's primary communication method after some emails received earlier this week. In a light week for pro golf, two preview the Genesis Invitational, being played at Torrey Pines South instead of Riviera this year. They discuss their mixed feelings toward this event following the change in venue due to natural disaster and Tiger's WD after his mother died. Nonetheless, hammers are thrown on this week's fire locks as golf's preeminent gambling podcast looks to get back on the board with a win at Torrey. PJ takes a big swing with his pick for the week and apologizes for Kenny Gainwell's total yards prop loss, provoking some discussion about Sunday's game. Andy and Brendan then note the lack of TGL matches this week and wonder whether Tiger chose to have the league take a week off during his hosted event. Without a DP World Tour or LPGA event this week, the Champions Tour gets second billing ahead of the Chubb Classic. Andy shares some on-the-ground insight from Tiburon before looking ahead to the upcoming Cologuard Classic. LIV moves from Riyadh to Adelaide this week for their premier event, complete with the Watering Hole making its return. Brendan shares that the league will make its FOX debut on Saturday night at 11 pm ET due to the time change from Australia. Naturally, some ratings talk comes next with numbers from both LIV Riyadh's final round and Thomas Detry's Sunday at the WM released on Tuesday. Things wrap up with a news segment covering a reported update in PGA Tour-PIF negotiations and Dustin Johnson's split with TaylorMade as his equipment sponsor.

Come experience the multi-faceted experience of Angel Island in its first-ever concert series.  From within the detention barracks at the Immigration Station, we'll be exploring music and stories of the many communities who have connections to the island and its history. A beautiful day on the island, a richness of history, an exploration of the darkness and also the hope that the island represented. September 14, 2024 @ 11:30AM & 2:00PM Kaddish: Featuring Music By Derek David If you'll be in the San Francisco Bay area, we'd love to invite you to join us! Take the ferry from Tiburon or San Francisco. Then bike, walk, or tram to the immigration station. Be sure to reserve your seat at delquartet.com/island. *** THE CONCERT We've combined music by Derek David  - his Quartet # 4 "Kaddish" and his own performances of Yiddish folk songs with short selections that give a wide view of Jewish-American music, from the Broadway standards of Jerome Kern to Ljova to Bay Area's own Gabriela Lena Frank. The concert contains a spectrum of emotions: fun Yiddish songs, the Broadway song tradition, and Derek's personal reflecting on mourning.  “Kaddish” explores mourning through two Jewish folk melodies sourced from the Ruth Rubin Legacy Archives, indirectly reflecting on death, dying, and romance. In a previous Del Sol concert with Derek , the audience - young and old - found a fresh viewpoint on Jewish-American experience, energized around Derek's intensely personal music. Suddenly, Yiddish seemed vital, complex, vibrant, funny and sad - not a dying language at all. THE HISTORY Approximately 8,000 Jews and Russians passed through Angel Island between 1910 and 1940.. According to the Angel Island Immigration Center's Immigrant Voices Project, “historians have explored the long and often unjust treatment of Japanese and Chinese on Angel Island, much less is known about the thousands of Russians, Eastern Europeans and Jews who came to the U.S. via Asia.” Two distinct waves included: = Large numbers of Russian, Polish, and Lithuanian Jews began arriving at Angel Island in 1915. They were mainly men who had left their homes to escape the turmoil of war and military duty. =At least 500 Jewish refugees made it to San Francisco and Yokohama in 1939 and 1940 to escape Nazi regimes.

Many of you will be aware of the environmental issues and development pressures experienced on the Yucatan peninsula in the area spanning from Cancun to Tulum. This area encompasses the largest cave systems in the world, many of which are also of huge archaeological and environmental significance, playing home to rare species of flora and fauna, Mayan artefacts, and geological features dating back millions of years. On top of that, the caves are aquifers that carry the water supply for all life in the region. Development pressures and the lack of adequate development controls have already damaged the region recently the Mexican Government's plan to build a train loop from Cancun to Tulum directly through the pristine jungle and above the precious caves of the region has caused huge concern and opposition. Known as Tren Maya, the train was originally planned to run along the highway meaning its impact would be manageable however, following opposition from the hotel industry, the Government decided to move the train 7km inland through the jungle and yes directly over some of the best-flooded caves on the planet. All cave divers should be concerned about this but more than that, the loss of jungle habitat, endangered species, and the ongoing and increasing damage to the water supply should worry us all. I have covered this topic in other episodes notably EP #36 Somos Los Cenotes with Phillip Lehmann, Natalie and Vince of Under the Jungle and also with Alessandra Figari #77 and Robbie Schmittner #85 but when Stratis Kas provided an introduction to Jose Urbina Bravo or Pepe Tiburon as he is known I took the opportunity to meet and find out more. In this episode, Pepe takes us through the background and history of Tren Maya and then describes the issues and terrible outcomes likely if this project is allowed to continue. He speaks not only of the damage caused by the Tren Maya project itself but also of the "Cancer" that will result in terms of additional development surrounding the train and environmental damage in these last remaining pristine jungle regions of Mexico. Pepe updates us on his progress including winning a legal injunction to stop the project before this was overridden by the Government. He talks of the ongoing battle to oppose the project and his recent trip to Mexico City to meet with the Government face-to-face. But Pepe also provides balance to the discussions with ways in which development might occur in the region where technology and modern techniques might both reverse current issues and allow for responsible development in the future. Lastly Pepe shares with us ways in which all of us who love this region and care about the environment might assist and support the fight to oppose the Tren Maya project in its current form. So sit back and join me with Pepe Tiburon in this episode of… Speaking Sidemount. Watch a video of Pepe showing the damage.

As financial markets continue to evolve, so does the way individuals and institutions navigate the world of asset allocation, investment strategies, and financial planning. This dynamic shift goes beyond mere adaptation. It represents a proactive response to evolving client needs, a strategic embrace of the demands imposed by the digital age, and a seamless integration of innovative technological solutions designed to revolutionize the fundamental processes of growing, protecting, and distributing wealth.  In this episode, Jack talks with Chip Roame, Founder and Managing Partner of Tiburon Strategic Advisors and Tiburon CEO Summits. Chip is a strategic advisor to over 600 Tiburon corporate member firms. He has also served as an industry-experienced board member for numerous Tiburon member firms and currently serves on 10 boards. Having a good vantage point on where the industry is headed, Chip talks about the five areas of evolution in the wealth management industry — the evolving clients, products and services, markets and distribution channels, marketing and technology tactics, and industry structure. He highlights the dominance of Fidelity, Schwab, Morgan Stanley, and Vanguard in the industry and the growth of discount brokerage firms. Chip also debunks some misconceptions about product data and emphasizes the importance of coordinated approaches in wealth management. Key Takeaways [01:23] - The five key wealth and management industry themes. [03:22] - Why Fidelity, Schwab, Morgan Stanley, and Vanguard remain the dominant and strong firms. [06:38] - Potential contenders to top wealth management firms. [08:26] - Other interesting trends in the industry. [10:07] - The move towards a coordinated pro-solutions approach. [11:33] - The emergence of "supermarket" companies in the financial industry. [14:46] - The changing landscape of platforms and the rise of proprietary technology. [16:25] - Chip's thoughts on the future of the wealth management industry. [20:19] - The shift to digital marketing and technology-driven marketing strategies. [22:08] - Chip's key takeaways. [23:08] - Chip's favorite activities outside of work. Quotes [07:59] - "If you think about those three trends, workplace, retail, and RIAs, those four firms (Fidelity Investments, Schwab, Morgan Stanley, and Vanguard) are positioned for the future. I don't see anyone else is in the right spot for those three trends going forward." ~ Chip Roame [13:17] - "The idea of a mutual fund supermarket was a big aha. And now we're going to have a cash supermarket, a lending supermarket, and a no-load annuity supermarket. You're going to have an estate planning supermarket someday. These are good for customers, and the rest of the world works this way." ~ Chip Roame [20:41] - "The old ways of marketing have died off. And digital marketing or technology-driven marketing is here to stay." ~ Chip Roame Links  Chip Roame on LinkedIn Tiburon Strategic Advisors Tiburon CEO Summits Skip & Chip's Excellent Adventures Fidelity Investments Charles Schwab Morgan Stanley Vanguard Edward Jones LPL Financial Raymond James Flourish Wealth Advisors Sora Finance DPL Financial Partners Payload Envestnet InvestCloud AssetMark eMoney Advisor MoneyGuidePro Orion Advisor Solutions Redtail Technology Edelman Financial Engines Plaid Cetera Wealth Partners Avantax Franklin Templeton Apex Wealth Group Mercer Advisors Mariner Finance CAPTRUST Zoe Financial Smart Asset NerdWallet Sierra Investment Management Connect with our hosts LifeYield Jack Sharry on LinkedIn Jack Sharry on Twitter Subscribe and stay in touch Apple Podcasts Spotify LinkedIn Twitter Facebook

No two people are the same, so of course, our traits and experiences are slightly different from each other too. What makes this interesting is that we all have something that makes us rare. This episode talks about embracing your anomalies. In 1998, I was living in California, training for an Alaska Anchorage marathon. My physical fitness was in top shape at the time. I had just finished a 20-mile long training run from San Francisco to Tiburon. I was actively playing soccer while training with the Leukemia Society's marathon TNT team. My Leukemia Society coaches warned me to stop playing soccer, but I didn't listen to their advice. Not long after, I experienced an injury that was a super rare fracture.  I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP157's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. I had to go to multiple doctors to have a few opinions. Turns out the fracture was so rare that many medical professionals had zero experience with this type of injury. Luckily, I found one doctor who had one isolated case. I'm happy it turned out well, and actually, it reminded me that this doctor and I are people who share this unique one in a million experience. On our Wise Walk, I talk about embracing your anomalies. We all have rare experiences in one form or another that shape what we consider to be our own normal. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life are you unique and can see the beauty of it? Do you have rare behaviors or habits? Can you own your extraordinary anomaly? As you look at your unique traits, do you know the baseline for your specific experience? Can you get more clarity around your norms? Can you accept your norm and gather the support you need? Always feeling like an outlier can be uncomfortable until you learn the importance of defining and communicating your norm.  Recognize your own unique experiences to create your own baseline. Embrace your uniqueness with these Wise Walk questions: How can you shift to a better norm if you don't feel your best? Where in your life are you defying what's considered “normal” by most standards? Do you take time to appreciate or honor the anomalies in your life? Can you be supportive of other people's unique traits? Can you encourage others to step into their rare experiences? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other.   In this episode: [00:23] - Welcome to the show! [03:18] - Do you have rare behaviors or habits? [05:50] - Mary Tess talks about the importance of defining and communicating YOUR norm. [08:03] - Can you get more clarity around your norms? [09:40] - Mary Tess talks about finding what works for you. On this episode, Adam and Nolan debrief on Nolan's recent trip to Mexico to tag along on a desert bighorn hunt on Tiburon Island in Sonora. Big rams, great food, great people, and more than enough adventure to satisfy a salty Northern BC guide. You can see why Nolan thinks this was the coolest sheep hunt he's ever been on. @nmo @desert_hunt --------------------------- DEALS & OFFERS: Need boots? This is a fun beefy Friday episode before Thanksgiving week . Andy and Brendan begin with some thoughts on Cole Hammer's instant success at RSM, DL3's thumb on the scale, a new nickname for Mac Hughes, and the notion of Ryder Cup captain advice. At the CME, we get word from the ground from a friend who's playing (and chopping at) the other Tiburon course, which is open, while the women play for their massive purse. On the Euro Tour, they discuss Rahm's feisty comments on OWGR “fairness” for DPWT winners vs. the RSM Classic winner. There's also an unsubstantiated rumor Friday nugget on the potential value of a LIV franchise. Flashback Friday is a husky one on Alvaro Quiros, his win in Dubai, the “Next Seve” comp, and sensation that captivated golf media for a couple years. It also leads us to an extremely amusing article on distance and equipment CEOs pooh-poohing gains with all the excitement about Alvaro's big drives. Andy and Brendan close with another SGS Golf Advice segment reacting to some listener emails on annoying randoms, member-guest larceny, and playing a course out of order.
