As Bob continues his LawNext on Location series – all recorded live in the San Francisco area at locations of each guest's choosing – he sits down with Pablo Arredondo at his home in Tiburon, a quaint Marin County town with a history stretching from Mexican land grants to naval outposts to a southern railway terminus. From Pablo's home office, the view looks out over Richardson Bay towards Sausalito and, if you look carefully, the Golden Gate Bridge can be seen in the distance. It is a setting that is entirely fitting for a conversation with someone who helped shape one of the more remarkable journeys in the annals of legal technology. Pablo was cofounder of Casetext, the once-scrappy startup that spent a decade iterating, pivoting and persisting before striking gold with CoCounsel, the first GPT-4-powered AI legal assistant, unveiled on the nationally televised Morning Joe show on March 1, 2023. Just four months later, Thomson Reuters acquired Casetext for $650 million in cash. Now, 2.5 years later, Pablo recently left TR, where he is, as he puts it, building a Lego Death Star with his daughter and finally paying attention to his well-being after 16 years of nonstop pursuit. In this wide-ranging conversation, Pablo reflects on the long road to CoCounsel – from a failed crowdsourcing experiment to CARA's brief analysis tool to the pivotal moment when Casetext signed a $20,000 innovation license with OpenAI and got early access to GPT-4, 10 weeks before ChatGPT's public launch. He describes the surreal experience of those first 48 hours after CoCounsel's debut, when he and cofounder Jake Heller identified 74 distinct legal use cases the tool could handle – any one of which, he says, "would have been a company in the old world." Pablo and Bob also dig into the bigger questions surrounding legal AI, including whether the field is advancing as fast as he expected; what the foundation models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google mean for legal-specific AI companies such as Harvey; and why he believes reasoning models and agentic AI represent the next genuinely profound leap beyond GPT-4. Pablo also candidly reflects on the TR acquisition and his work while at TR, and he offers hints on what may lie ahead for him – at least once that Death Star model is done. It is a conversation that is part memoir, part technology seminar and part meditation on what it means to have built something that changed a profession – and his life – all recorded with a sweeping, albeit cloudy, view of the majesty of San Francisco Bay. Could we imagine a world in which nicotine products did not exist? Could such a world be shaped by teens working together to make it happen, and what might that mean for public health? 25-year-old Raven Twilling, Program Coordinator for Bay Area Community Resources in Marin County, discusses how she has helped organize teens to make nicotine products illegal to sell in two California towns. She shares her journey from noticing vaping trends in high school to studying public health and working in her current role. Raven highlights recent successful initiatives, including complete bans on the sale of commercial tobacco and nicotine products in Ross and Tiburon, California. Most importantly, she explains how young people played a central role in these efforts and how listening to this episode with young people may spark interest in civic action and advocacy. Broadcast live from a quaint spot in Tiburon overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, Scott Hennen brings the energy of Super Bowl week to the airwaves. This episode is a masterclass in bridging the gap between North Dakota common sense and Silicon Valley innovation. Scott explores how the "ecosystem" of the Bay Area—built on solving problems and embracing failure—could be the key to unlocking North Dakota's potential as the "Silicon Valley of the Midwest." The show features a heavy-hitting lineup, including Senator Kevin Cramer, who addresses the heated "Town Hall" questions on everything from VA backlogs and DHS funding to the classy influence of Melania Trump. Later, NFL Hall of Famer Phil Hanson joins to talk Bison pride, the chaos of the transfer portal, and the "journeyman" magic of Sam Darnold. Whether you're here for the "Radio Graffiti" rants or the high-level investment talk, this episode captures the "art of the possible" from North Dakota to San Francisco. Episode Highlights [00:03:00] The "Town Hall" with Senator Kevin Cramer Senator Cramer weighs in on the political theater surrounding the DHS funding bill and responds to criticisms from former Senator Kent Conrad. He also discusses the "quiet confidence" of Melania Trump and her influence on the President. [00:06:45] Appropriation Battles and Rand Paul A deep dive into the practical side of D.C. politics. Cramer explains why he voted for certain appropriations bills and the nuances of working with "DOGE" cuts while maintaining the President's signature tax policies. [00:09:00] Veteran Affairs: Benefit of the Doubt? A powerful exchange with a local veteran leads to a discussion on cutting VA backlogs, reducing administrative bureaucracy, and the potential for non-traditional treatments like Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. [00:17:00] Bison on the Big Stage: Phil Hanson Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer Phil Hanson breaks down why he's rooting for a "Seattle slant" this Super Bowl. He praises the rookie success of Gray Zabel and the grit of the Bison offensive line in the NFL. [00:19:00] The NIL and Transfer Portal "Mess" Hanson and Hennen get real about the "college free agency" landscape. They discuss the impact of agents on locker room dynamics and why the "genie is out of the bottle" for the future of college football. [00:27:00] Unlocking Potential: TNT Kids Fitness As Giving Hearts Day approaches, Sammy Schofield explains how TNT Kids Fitness uses gymnastics and movement to unlock the potential of every child, regardless of ability…
After a long while of trying, it was a pleasure to finally be joined by 7x Professional title winner & 2x Belgian Olympian Manon De Roey after a solid season stateside reaching CME Tour finals on LPGA Tour. Manon'a trophy collection also includes 3x Ladies European Tour titles at 2022 Aramco Series Bangkok, 2024 Investec SA Women's Open & last year's Australian Women's Classic. Manon is from the Schilde Muncipality just outside of Antwerp in Belgium and although she played Hockey for 13 years at a good level, she would start playing the game around about the age of 11. Manon had some success at Junior & Amateur level winning the Belgian Amateur Strokeplay twice in 2013 & 2014, winning the 2014 Belgian Matchplay Championship, receiving the 2009 Annette De Vooght Trophy given to the Best Female Belgian player, would participate in 2009 European Girls' Team Championships for Belgium as well as the European Ladies' Team Championship & Espirito Santo Trophy in Japan during her time at University of New Mexico. In 2015 Manon would turn professional and between 2018 & 2019 on LET Access Series she would pick up 3 titles winning WPGA International Challenge in back to back years as well as 2019 Santander GT LETAS Valencia. In 2020 in the midst of a weird time De Roey would pick up a mini tour title in Australia at Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro Am. As well as participating at both 2021 & 2024 Olympic Games in Tokyo and Paris respectively some great memories for Manon to reflect on, 2022 would see the maiden title won on Ladies European Tour at Aramco Series Individual in Bangkok by 3 shots (Manon actually brings out the trophy on camera, lovely). She would follow that up in 2024 in South Africa winning by 4 then at last year's Australian Women's Classic at Coffs Harbour playing one of the most clutch 2nd shots in a long time to win by a shot to Cara Gainer. In 2025 alone outwith the LET victory would see a 9th placed finish at Chevron Championship major and a host of good finishes contributing to making CME Tour finals at Tiburon, a fantastic achievement. I just want to thank Manon for being such a great guest. Great player, lovely person and thanks for the privilege of seeing your trophy on the screen! All the best for 2026! This week, Jack Sharry talks with Chip Roame, Founder & Managing Partner of Tiburon Strategic Advisors & Tiburon CEO Summits. Chip is a leading strategic advisor to 700+ Tiburon corporate member firms and other clients, primarily advising CEOs, senior executives, and boards of directors of wealth and investment management firms. He is responsible for all of Tiburon's research and advisory activities, keeping him at the leading edge of strategic initiatives in the industry's fastest-growing businesses. Jack and Chip break down the real forces shaping wealth management today. Chip shares insights from the latest Tiburon CEO Summit in Boston, covering shifting client segments, asset flows across channels, the dominance of ETFs and private credit, and why scale continues to win. They discuss lead generation as a defining competitive advantage, the accelerating pace of consolidation, and how AI may drive efficiency and personalization without replacing advisors. In this episode: (00:00) - Intro (01:26) - Five major themes from the Tiburon CEO Summit (02:38) – How investors are changing—and why the generational wealth transfer is overstated (05:39) – Where the money is really flowing across wealth management channels (08:37) – Cheap beta vs. private markets: the widening product divide (11:05) – Why scale keeps winning and the biggest firms keep getting bigger (13:07) – Business strategy today: lead generation, advisors, and growth models (15:03) – What real organic growth looks like—and why it matters (19:47) – Industry structure: consolidation, M&A, and what's coming next (22:10) – AI in wealth management: efficiency, personalization, and realistic timelines (24:39) - Chip's key takeaways (26:43) - Chip's interests outside of work Quotes "Private equity firms or the stock market value organic growth much higher than inorganic growth. And certainly, your cost to acquire a client will always be lowest in digital marketing, in social media, where you self-create the lead." ~ Chip Roame "Don't get caught up in all the news that gets reported every day. Focus on which firms are actually gathering the most money because they're the ones that are doing something right." ~ Chip Roame "Lead gen is a big deal right now, and I think those who figure it out are going to win. So if I were a wealth firm, I would be figuring out lead gen for my advisors at the home level." ~ Chip Roame Links Chip Roame on LinkedIn Tiburon Strategic Advisors Tiburon CEO Summits Morgan Stanley Merrill Lynch Wells Fargo UBS Edward Jones Ameriprise Financial J.P.

Aurora is always ready for the next get rich scheme.Aurora's high-strung daughter, 43-year-old Leyla Feldenburg Rothstein, is a hypersensitive, insecure, perfectionist, insomniac, emotionally damaged from her father's lifelong abuse and rejection. She is married to a wealthy, Jewish prince charming, investment banker who specializes in the legal Cannabis industry.Aurora and Leyla's separate quests intersect and enmesh in Los Angeles over the course of a weekend, where they both end up staying with cousins, quirky, endearing, Sephardic Jews who speak Ladino, mostly in proverbs and cook prodigious quantities of delicacies from the old country, the island of Rhodes. When Aurora's meager inheritance is stolen, she drags Leyla into a ludicrous chase. Unable to resist the pull from the trauma bond she shares with her infuriating mother, Leyla fails to adhere to her boundaries, even after years of therapy. She risks losing everything to another one of Aurora's harebrained schemes.Their entangled journeys and the chaotic, catastrophic outcome are the last straw for Leyla who must break free from her mother's toxic dependency and destructive attachment to save herself, her marriage, and her young family.https://lisafrosenberg.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca
Andy and Brendan start this Wednesday episode by wishing for the return of landline phones as society's primary communication method after some emails received earlier this week. In a light week for pro golf, two preview the Genesis Invitational, being played at Torrey Pines South instead of Riviera this year. They discuss their mixed feelings toward this event following the change in venue due to natural disaster and Tiger's WD after his mother died. Nonetheless, hammers are thrown on this week's fire locks as golf's preeminent gambling podcast looks to get back on the board with a win at Torrey. PJ takes a big swing with his pick for the week and apologizes for Kenny Gainwell's total yards prop loss, provoking some discussion about Sunday's game. Andy and Brendan then note the lack of TGL matches this week and wonder whether Tiger chose to have the league take a week off during his hosted event. Without a DP World Tour or LPGA event this week, the Champions Tour gets second billing ahead of the Chubb Classic. Andy shares some on-the-ground insight from Tiburon before looking ahead to the upcoming Cologuard Classic. LIV moves from Riyadh to Adelaide this week for their premier event, complete with the Watering Hole making its return. Brendan shares that the league will make its FOX debut on Saturday night at 11 pm ET due to the time change from Australia. Naturally, some ratings talk comes next with numbers from both LIV Riyadh's final round and Thomas Detry's Sunday at the WM released on Tuesday. Things wrap up with a news segment covering a reported update in PGA Tour-PIF negotiations and Dustin Johnson's split with TaylorMade as his equipment sponsor.

Come experience the multi-faceted experience of Angel Island in its first-ever concert series. From within the detention barracks at the Immigration Station, we'll be exploring music and stories of the many communities who have connections to the island and its history. A beautiful day on the island, a richness of history, an exploration of the darkness and also the hope that the island represented. September 14, 2024 @ 11:30AM & 2:00PM Kaddish: Featuring Music By Derek David If you'll be in the San Francisco Bay area, we'd love to invite you to join us! Take the ferry from Tiburon or San Francisco. Then bike, walk, or tram to the immigration station. Be sure to reserve your seat at delquartet.com/island. *** THE CONCERT We've combined music by Derek David - his Quartet # 4 "Kaddish" and his own performances of Yiddish folk songs with short selections that give a wide view of Jewish-American music, from the Broadway standards of Jerome Kern to Ljova to Bay Area's own Gabriela Lena Frank. The concert contains a spectrum of emotions: fun Yiddish songs, the Broadway song tradition, and Derek's personal reflecting on mourning. “Kaddish” explores mourning through two Jewish folk melodies sourced from the Ruth Rubin Legacy Archives, indirectly reflecting on death, dying, and romance. In a previous Del Sol concert with Derek , the audience - young and old - found a fresh viewpoint on Jewish-American experience, energized around Derek's intensely personal music. Suddenly, Yiddish seemed vital, complex, vibrant, funny and sad - not a dying language at all. THE HISTORY Approximately 8,000 Jews and Russians passed through Angel Island between 1910 and 1940.. According to the Angel Island Immigration Center's Immigrant Voices Project, “historians have explored the long and often unjust treatment of Japanese and Chinese on Angel Island, much less is known about the thousands of Russians, Eastern Europeans and Jews who came to the U.S. via Asia.” Two distinct waves included: = Large numbers of Russian, Polish, and Lithuanian Jews began arriving at Angel Island in 1915. They were mainly men who had left their homes to escape the turmoil of war and military duty. =At least 500 Jewish refugees made it to San Francisco and Yokohama in 1939 and 1940 to escape Nazi regimes.

Great to bring you Episode #92 Pepe Tiburon: "Tren Maya - A Disaster in the Making". Big thanks to all of you and also to our brilliant sponsor XDEEP. Your support makes this podcast possible. Many of you will be aware of the environmental issues and development pressures experienced on the Yucatan peninsula in the area spanning from Cancun to Tulum. This area encompasses the largest cave systems in the world, many of which are also of huge archaeological and environmental significance, playing home to rare species of flora and fauna, Mayan artefacts, and geological features dating back millions of years. On top of that, the caves are aquifers that carry the water supply for all life in the region. Development pressures and the lack of adequate development controls have already damaged the region recently the Mexican Government's plan to build a train loop from Cancun to Tulum directly through the pristine jungle and above the precious caves of the region has caused huge concern and opposition. Known as Tren Maya, the train was originally planned to run along the highway meaning its impact would be manageable however, following opposition from the hotel industry, the Government decided to move the train 7km inland through the jungle and yes directly over some of the best-flooded caves on the planet. All cave divers should be concerned about this but more than that, the loss of jungle habitat, endangered species, and the ongoing and increasing damage to the water supply should worry us all. I have covered this topic in other episodes notably EP #36 Somos Los Cenotes with Phillip Lehmann, Natalie and Vince of Under the Jungle and also with Alessandra Figari #77 and Robbie Schmittner #85 but when Stratis Kas provided an introduction to Jose Urbina Bravo or Pepe Tiburon as he is known I took the opportunity to meet and find out more. In this episode, Pepe takes us through the background and history of Tren Maya and then describes the issues and terrible outcomes likely if this project is allowed to continue. He speaks not only of the damage caused by the Tren Maya project itself but also of the "Cancer" that will result in terms of additional development surrounding the train and environmental damage in these last remaining pristine jungle regions of Mexico. Pepe updates us on his progress including winning a legal injunction to stop the project before this was overridden by the Government. He talks of the ongoing battle to oppose the project and his recent trip to Mexico City to meet with the Government face-to-face. But Pepe also provides balance to the discussions with ways in which development might occur in the region where technology and modern techniques might both reverse current issues and allow for responsible development in the future. Lastly Pepe shares with us ways in which all of us who love this region and care about the environment might assist and support the fight to oppose the Tren Maya project in its current form. So sit back and join me with Pepe Tiburon in this episode of… Speaking Sidemount. Watch a video of Pepe showing the damage.
