Fuinneamh's Lucas Ogma has shared the first two singles from his debut album ‘Native Wildflower' on our Soundcloud, along with an exclusive interview about the project. His debut album is a homage to the natural world and its inherent impact on music, focusing on deep, lush, and textured sounds throughout 14 tracks. Luke Reddy, also known as Lucas Ogma, is one of the most influential figures in the Irish dance music industry right now. The Fuinneamh founder has dedicated his life to creating safe and unique dance spaces, and his passion for authenticity and freedom of expression pervades all aspects of his work. Lucas' music, like his festivals and parties, exudes a profound sense of tranquillity. A sense of security and connection to both our forebears and the natural world. The Sligo-based artist's unique approach to music-making blurs the lines between traditional Irish percussive rhythms and those of the electronic continuum, resulting in a distinct Gaelic take on the quintessential techno sound. His latest musical undertaking is his most bold and honest yet. The 14-track album provides a glimpse inside the mind of one of Ireland's most adventurous creatives. Lucas delves further into the world of layered hypnotic techno, with each track exuding a genuine feeling of sorrow and romanticism. The project is categorised as techno. Pure techno. However, describing this as club music seems somewhat reductive. The album is slightly unconventional in terms of techno, with an acute sense of story-telling and cinematic bravado coursing through its epicentre. The relationship between the painter and the painting runs deep in this project. The prospect of releasing music that has been largely sequestered for so long seems heartbreaking. This is important to him. It's more than surface-level bangers; it's a record of life thus far. From the smoky basement growls of ‘Introspect' and ‘Surveillance' to the flickering beams of fantasy-style bliss on ‘Left Behind', the album shifts from light to dark in a delicately poignant manner, gently bringing listeners from Panorama to Berghain at the flick of a switch. Lucas' distinctive approach to the dub sound pays homage to pioneers Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus. Lucas takes a purist and organic approach to techno, drawing on a luxurious bed of pulsating atmospheres to lay the groundwork for fluttering delay swells on luscious chord stabs that echo through the soundscape like a gust of wind blowing through the towering oak trees on the Fuinneamh grounds. Despite the evident inspirations, there is a strong sense of solitude in this offering. Lucas was isolated in his home of Sligo while writing the album, shielded from the world of warehouses and murky dance floors. He curated a sound that mirrored his journey. This is the quintessential Fuinneamh sound: a groove that honours our roots and history Lucas ------------------------- SC: @lucasogma IG: www.instagram.com/lukereddy1/ FB: www.facebook.com/lucasogma Four Four Magazine

We've got some fresh new music from Fuinneamh Festival founder Lucas. The revered producer is known for his powerful and deep cuts, finding inspiration in dub chords, deep pads and textured atmospheres. His track ‘Cosmic Background' is an atmospheric trip through wandering chords and deep soundscapes. Luke Reddy aka ‘LUCAS has been producing electronic music and DJing since 2011. Luke's early years as an artist were not your run of the mill, first cutting his teeth performing at his own events which took place in the forest, open air events and raves, deep in the Wicklow mountains, these legendary parties became known as the ‘Keep Her Lit' series. Lucas disappeared somewhat off the DJ radar in 2015, when his ambitious plans for Fuinneamh Festival year one began, but with DJ sets in the summer of 2019 at EP, Body & Soul and at Fuinneamh we saw Lucas make a resurgence into the Irish DJ scene once again. Lucas founded a new record label ‘Ogma' in 2021 and it started with a E.P. with himself and Snakebite 616 the release received huge international and local support from the likes of Freddy K, Ed Davenport aka Inland, Elad Magdasi, Cici, Cailín, Mylo Spykers, Jon Hester, Taint, Aeron, Diarmaid O'Meara and more. The label will return for it's second release this summer. Lucas has provided a deep and driving techno masterpiece. This reminds me of some classic ‘Function' releases, but has Lucas's own spin on it. A big pounding kick plays of deep and whirling atmosphere, as drifting chords provide an entrancing kind of melody. This is a proper techno. Dagda was an Irish god who was part of a group of Irish gods known as the Tuatha Dé Danaan. He was regarded as the father of the gods and was known for his knowledge and good nature. He is often referred as “The Dagda”The legend of Dagda states that he is a god of the earth, knowledge, harvest, time and fate. He is known to possess knowledge and wisdom that was frequently used to help the mortals. He is also depicted as a wanderer who spreads happiness and sense of wonder among the mortal world of Ireland & Scotland. The Dagda was a giant of a man with long and unruly beard. He wore a woolen cloak around his head and his clothes never fit him right with his belly and buttocks being frequently exposed. This however did not take away his good looks. It has been theorized that the Dagda's gruff appearance was created by the Christians who recorded Irish folktales. These early historians wanted to make him appear foolish and humorous when compared to their deity Jesus Christ. The Dagda is the son of Eithne, who is the daughter of Balor, the leader of the Fomorians. He is also considered the brother of Lugh, who ruled Ireland for 40 years. The Dagda has a daughter named Brigit, who is a powerful force of fertility. His most famous sons are Cermat and Angus Og, who have represented youth, beauty, and maybe even love. The Dagda is the husband of Morrigan, who referred to as his “envious wife”. He has two brothers, Nuada and Ogma. In the Dindsench, the Dagda is given Ainge, a daughter who is known for her ability to keep a twig basket or bathtub leaking when the tide is in. Dagda is also said to be the son of Elatha and grandson on Delbeath. His other wife is known as Elcmar and Echtgi is the another daughter that is mentioned in the Banshenchas. The Dagda has various names or epithets that reflect the various aspects of his character. Some of these include Eochaid Ollathair, Ruad Roftessa, Fer Benn, Daire, Aed, Cera, Cerrce, Easal and Eogabal.Dagda had a variety of objects that were associated with power and position. The Dagda was known for his various powers, including a caldron full of fruit trees that were never empty allowing him to feed as many people as possible. He also had two pigs that were always ready to eat.He also had a large club that could kill both men and animals. It is said that one of the ends of the club can kill 9 men in a single swing while the other end can revive people from the dead. He is also in possession of a harp that can be used to change seasons based on the song he plays. The Dagda has also appeared in various other pop culture works. In Dungeons & Dragons, he was often portrayed as a leader of a Celtic pantheon. He was also featured in the game's Scion role-playing game. In Marvel Comics featuring Thor, he is represented as an equivalent to Odin in the Celtic pantheon.Read about the Dagda at https://mythlok.com/dagda/

Kathy from the US has solved Ruth's question about Leeks and the Welsh by finding a quote from the Sacred Texts website. She also found the following quotes from Henry V (Shakespeare):- FLUELLEN Your majesty says very true: if your majesties is remembered of it, the Welshmen did good service in a garden where leeks did grow, wearVing leeks in their Monmouth caps; which, your majesty know, to this hour is an honourable badge of the service; and I do believe your majesty takes no scorn to wear the leek upon Saint Tavy's day. KING HENRY V I wear it for a memorable honour; For I am Welsh, you know, good countryman. FLUELLEN All the water in Wye cannot wash your majesty's Welsh plood out of your pody, I can tell you that: God pless it and preserve it, as long as it pleases his grace, and his majesty too! Thank you Kathy.   Promo - Mary Jones Amazing Celtic resource site with information about everything! OK, I'm a bit enthusiastic but she does do an amazing job. She also hosts the Celtic Literature Collective which is one of the major resources for our stories. You can spend hours here.
