This week, I sit down with my husband, Corey, to share the tender and vulnerable story of our ongoing journey with infertility. It's been a walk marked by deep longing, stretching, and heartbreak—and yet, through it all, God has proven Himself faithful. In this episode, we talk about:The ache of not knowing if your body is “good”The emotional and spiritual weight infertility places on a marriageLearning to stay with each other instead of fixing or fleeingThe deep impact of presence—being held instead of hurriedGratitude as a powerful tool to anchor us in truthHow God uses the waiting to prepare our hearts, not punish themSurrendering the dream of parenthood to Jesus and trusting Him to hold it tenderlyYou'll hear us reflect on Abraham's faith in Romans 4, when it says:“Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”Even when the promise seemed impossible, he trusted the Promiser. And in the hidden places of waiting, Psalm 139 gives us peace:“The darkness is not dark to you… you knit me together in my mother's womb.”God sees every piece of our story—even the parts that feel lost in the dark. There's a line in this episode I whispered through tears:“If I can't give this to you, is my love enough?”And another Corey gently offered:“The desire of my heart is not to have children, but to hear the Father say, ‘I am well pleased.'”We hope this conversation reminds you that you are not alone in your wrestle. Text: Genesis 22:1-2 A sermon in our series through Genesis
God is saying to us: “I've given you my Promise. I wont delay. At the perfect time my plan will be revealed”. This Promise Agreement is dependent only on the Promiser
Morning Sermon from 4 February
Faith and Courage— Two Sides of the Same CoinThe Biblical story of Abraham is profoundly human— a narrative full of twists and turns, triumphs and failures, poor decisions and their unintended consequences, and, of course, drama— much like a Netflix mini-series. Yet, throughout the trials of his faith, we see Abraham continually return to a place of trust in God's promises. And the trajectory of his life models for us the possibilities and pitfalls of our own spiritual journey. The Call and the PromiseIn Genesis 12, Abraham, then called Abram, receives a divine call from God to leave behind the only land and people he's ever known and travel to a place yet unknown, so that through him, God would bless all the families of the world. Pretty tall order. Yet, this inaugurates the covenant— God pledging to make Abraham a great nation, to bless him abundantly, and to give his descendants the land of Canaan. The promise must have seemed improbable to Abraham, a nondescript man from an obscure country, but he obeyed nonetheless.Abraham's faith wasn't one-dimensional— the Genesis account shows it being refined through tests and trials, success and failures. In Egypt, fearing danger, Abraham lies to Pharaoh about Sarah being his wife. Not one of his better days. Later, anxious about lacking an heir, Abraham and Sarah take matters into their own hands, leading to the birth of Ishmael through Hagar. Probably one of his worst days. Yet even after these failures, Abraham returns again and again to faith in what God has spoken, as he is learning to trust in the timing and provision of the Promiser.Courage and the ClimaxUltimately, Abraham's faith journey crescendos in the test of the binding of Isaac, where God asks for the unthinkable— to offer up his son, through whom the covenant blessings were to flow, as a sacrifice to Him on Mount Moriah. Abraham obeys, demonstrating remarkable courage and trust that God could fulfill His promise even through death.Lessons for the JourneyWhat lessons can we apply from Abraham's life? And how can we learn to have the courage to follow God into the unknown and do the unthinkable, even after a history of faith that may be less than stellar?• Face the Unknown with Faith – Like Abraham, God often calls His followers out of their comfort zones into uncharted territory that requires faith and courage. Abraham's “leave your country” first step models the courage to obey God, even when the destination is uncertain.• Grow through Failures – Our mistakes need not define us. Like Abraham, we can let them deepen our reliance on God. Need more proof? Remember David's moral failure with Bathsheba and his restoration, and Peter's denial and later reinstatement by Christ. They are pictures of Divine grace— and of the blessings of second chances.• Wait on God's Timing – The years between promise and fulfillment were Abraham's training ground in patience. God frequently calls His people to endure patiently as His purposes simmer below the surface, or years of obscure preparation before emerging leadership, pleading in prayer before a longed-for miracle, or decades struggling with wounds before finding healing. May we likewise learn to wait on His timing, in all things.• Cling to God's Promises – When famine descended on Canaan, Abraham clung to God's covenant promises despite being surrounded by doubt and discouragement. We, too, can hold fast to the many promises in Scripture, even when the road gets tough, and we can't see our way forward.• Act with Everyday Courage – While few undergo anything close to Abraham's...

Has someone ever given you something that you've been wanting for a really, really long time? How would you feel if after a little bit, they asked for it back? Abraham faces this very thing in Genesis 22 when God tests his faith regarding his promised son Isaac. God has already proven to Abraham over and over that He keeps His promises. So in this critical moment, Abraham has to decide: Does he trust the promise, or the Promiser?
Grant Sanderson joins Lexman to discuss his latest book, Promiser. The pair discuss the themes of dissolvability and dialectics, as well as Proudhon's thoughts on the subject.
Sarah is included in the list of the name of the faithful, despite her doubting God’s power at one point. She trusted that God would bring her a son despite her age. Including her in Hebrews 11 is a testimony that having a true faith doesn’t mean that we always have perfect faith, but that we can have faith in the midst of the doubt. The Apostle Paul is reminding the church that salvation comes from a Promise, not a Law. And salvation is the result of the work of The Promiser (of God), not our work. What's the difference between The Promise and The Law? Does the Law save? Galatians 3:15-25 Pastor Eric Jones
Romans 4:16-25 (CWSB)16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Join us as we continue our Abraham series and see how a situation can change when we trust the Promiser and not the promise. Abraham trusted in God and his character more than he did anything else.
Today's Promise: John 15:16 It's a little hard to wrap your head around this, but the God of the universe chose you. He spoke to your heart and drew you to Himself. Before the world ever began, God chose you to be his child. God chose you to be His child. You had nothing of value to offer God. You were no better than anyone else. There is absolutely no reason for God to choose you, but He did. He chose you and called you to be His child.
# Introduction Regardless of what anyone tells you, doubt doesn't make you cool. We doubt because it makes us think that we know better, because we think it'll help us save face when the thing, whatever it was, turns out not to be true. "Hey, at least I wasn't gullible like those twits.” Christians should be more comfortable looking crazy. We should boast more in the things we can't see. We are _believers_, and if you can see it, then you don't need faith. If you don't need faith, then you can't glorify or please God. He delights to make promises to His people and then making their faith like gold. So, yeah, we don't believe everything anyone says, but we do believe everything God's Word says. The world is full of liars, but Scripture doesn't make a virtue of skepticism, and actually condemns the double-minded. The righteous live by faith, we are born again to a living hope, and that means we live on unseen things. This is how we are saved, this is what we are saved unto: faith and hope. Doubt siphons of strength. Doubt divides attention. Doubt hamstrings our walk in obedience. Disobedience may cause doubt, but doubt also leads to disobedience. The Word calls for and builds up faith. Abraham is the man of faith, he is the father of all those with faith. In this last part of Romans 4 Paul puts a bow on the story of Abraham's belief and asserts that it applies to all believers. # Abraham's Faith in the One Who Promised Offspring (verses 18-22) Verses 18-21 are one sentence, with a follow up conclusion sentence in verse 22. Having already taught that it was Abraham's faith that saved him, not his works or circumcision or connection to the law, Paul tells a little more of Abraham's story. ## Considered Faith (verses 18-19) The first part Paul points out are the two reasonably incompatible facts on the ground: 1) the word of the Lord said Abraham would be a father and 2) there was no human way he could be a father. > Who, that is [Abraham], against hope in hope believed that he would become the father of many nations according to the word said, "So will be your offspring," and not wavering in faith he considered his own body already having been put to death, being about one-hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb, (verses 18-19) The two prepositional phrases are right next to each other and they start the sentence: **against hope in hope**. That Abraham believed _against_ hope means that there was no good reason to hope; the wind was against him and he had no ground to stand on. Becoming a father at this point in his life was as hopeless as telling a mountain to move. Yet he'd been told that even his name wasn't sufficient for what was supposed to happen. Abram, meaning "exalted father," was too little. Abraham means "father of a multitude" (Genesis 17:5). Paul quotes "So will be your offspring" which requires the context. > And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Genesis 15:5, ESV) The object of his belief wasn't hope, hope was the way he believed. He believed bullishly, confidently. Abraham did not believe blindly. He saw the problems with his situation. He **considered**, he measured in his mind, that his body was basically dead, at least in reproductive terms. He was century-level impotent, past the point of help from mail-order drugs. And Sarah's womb was barren; Paul uses a word for **deadness** and says she had "deadness of womb." But his consideration was **without weakening in faith**. His faith wasn't giving way. > except faith flies upward on celestial wings, so as to look down on all the perceptions of the flesh as on things far below, it will stick fast in the mud of the world. (John Calvin) ## Convinced Faith (verses 20-21) Verses 20-21 state what didn't happen and what did happen and what resulted from that happening. > but unto the promise of God he was not wavered in faith but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God and being fully convinced that He who promised is able also to do (it). In verse 18 "believed" is active and in verse 19 "considered" is active. Abraham acted. In verse 20 **was not wavered** is passive and in verse 21 **was strengthened** is also passive meaning that Abraham was acted upon. Stated one way, his faith was kept from wavering. The word **waver** has the idea of being divided, of being split apart. His faith wasn't being reduced to a fraction. Stated another way, his faith was **strengthened**. So, not weak but strong, not wavering but steady, like wind rather than rain to a fire. The result of faith is that he was **giving glory to God**. The verb, "glorifying" isn't a separate thing in addition to the being strengthened in faith, it is a result of the strong faith. God is glorified when we depend on Him. This belongs first with justification by faith alone, which Paul is still explaining in Romans 4. It also belongs with living by faith. The Lord is not impressed by us, He desires to impress us, so to speak, when we acknowledge that we need Him, and then when we give Him thanks after He's given what we need. This is the message of Psalm 50: call on Him in the day of trouble. God isn't impressed because we doubt Him better, or if we work to keep ourselves never needing His help. There was a filling up of Abraham's thinking with the power of the Promiser: **being fully convinced that the one who promised is able to do (whatever He promised).** Abraham did laugh (Genesis 17:17), and even asked that Ishmael might be the one, and yet the ## Counted Faith (verse 22) This is the conclusion; we're back to where it all started, since Paul quoted the same thing in verse 3 and referred to it again in verse 9. > Therefore, it [faith] was counted to him unto righteousness. Abraham believed God and God's Word to him. Justification is the word for this imputed righteousness, righteousness credited or **counted** by God to Abraham's ledger. # Our Faith in the One Who Raised Jesus (verses 23-25) From the beginning of the chapter Paul has been pushing Abraham's story as _the_ example, and here at the end of the chapter Paul leaves no doubt as to its relevance. > But this was written not only for him, that "it was counted to him," but also for us, those who will be counted, **Counted**, credited, counted. It's now the fourth time that Paul has quoted this statement from Genesis 15:6. We could call it the _proto-iusto_, the first justification. The Scripture revealed it for every son of Abraham in Israel, which was instruction for them that they missed. And as Paul regularly affirms, the Old Testament is profitable for us. It _applies_ The "us" of application are identified: > the ones believing in the one who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered over on account of our trespasses and who was raised on account of our justification. Abraham looked forward, by faith in hope, to the promise to be fulfilled, and we look backward and forward, to the Person of Jesus and to our inheritance in Him. **The one who raised...Jesus** is not Jesus, but the Father. God who promised seed to Abraham (Galatians 3:16) is God who raised _the_ Seed. We do not share the exact same words of promise, but we do share the exact same God of the words and promises. The last verse has a parallel structure that modifies **Jesus our Lord**. Jesus **was delivered**, handed over to the Romans who beat and crucified Him, and this was **because of our sins**. Jesus was also **raised**, brought to life on the third day, **for our justification**. His death was because of our sin. He was without sin. He died because we deserved to die. More than the Jews and Romans, the Father delivered Him up for us (Romans 8:32, see also Isaiah 53:10). He was "pierced for our transgressions" (Isaiah 53). "For our sake He (the Father) made Him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21). It is substitution, the righteous for the unrighteous (1 Peter 3:18). His resurrection guarantees our justification. As with the delivering, so with the raising, the Father did it (Romans 6:4; Ephesians 1:19-20). There are other verses that say we are justified by His death, by His blood (Romans 5:9, see also Romans 3:24-26). But this distinction is part of the "all are yours" of ways to talk about our salvation. We should run out of ways to refer to it just as soon as a woman runs out of ways to prepare meat. His resurrection means that He is alive, it confirms that the Father accepted His sacrifice, and it means that our hope is not in this life only (1 Corinthians 15:19). We shall be made alive in Him as well. # Conclusion What around you feeds your faith, fills your hope? Corruption, death, disappointments, sins, doubts. Look to the Father through the Son. Christ in You is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). Forgiveness, riches of kindness and patience, life. So get to the Word, get ahold of the promises. Pray for grace to strengthen your faith that it wouldn't waver. Wavering isn't worship. His goal is to bring our doubt to an end, by eventually bringing our faith to an end. --- ## Charge Thomas Watson wrote, “If the sinews be cut, the body is lame; if the sinew of faith be cut, hope is lame.” Don't play with the knife of cynicism. When the evil one flings his flaming darts of doubt in your direction — and do you think he won't? — take up the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16). ## Benediction > May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13, ESV)
God reserves his greatest levels of glory for our lowest moments in life. This Sunday, Pastor Mark Francey shares that if you will let Jesus preach from your boat, then He will take you into the deep end. If we will obey His word and remember the goodness of our Savior, God will fill our nets. It's our hardest days that set up our greatest testimony. God gets the glory out of the low places because there is no victory without some battles. With great stories comes great challenges. Victory is connected to our Faith. Most people miss out on miracles because they ignore the details. God does miracles, signs and wonders because once we see what He can do on the outside, we want more of Him on the inside. God specializes in doing things that humans cannot do. If you have to choose between miracles and the man, choose the man because what good is the promise land without the Promiser. 1. Jesus is Trustworthy in the low places. 2. Jesus turns our business into His platform. 3. Details Matter- Stand on Every word. 4. Goodness of God reveals who we are. 5. Out Of Egypt 2Corinthians 6:16-7:1 We were created to have a real, intimate relationship w/ the King of the Universe! Moses had to lead the people to the Promiser before he could lead them into the Promised Land. So many people don't fear the Lord because they haven't encountered Him. Exodus 19:3-6 The whole reason God brought them out of Egypt was to bring them to Himself. Isaiah 29:13—“They draw near to Me w/ their mouths, but their heart is far from Me.” Exodus 20:18-21 Mark 4:22— “There's nothing hidden that will not be brought into the light.” The person who fears God says, “How far away from sin can I get?” They wanted both God & Egypt—what they thought was the best of both worlds. Hebrews 11:24-26 1John 2:15-16 Will you choose to know the Promiser so you can experience your purpose—your Promised Land?
Promises are a big deal! When God makes a promise, He keeps it! Believing what God says forms your faith and is foundational in you being found righteous in God‘s eyes. In Genesis chapter 15 God will remind Abraham of his great promise. On top of that, he promises to be Abraham's protector and provider. Incredible promises for us today as well.

There are many promises that Jesus has made to His followers. He will give them life, acceptance, reward, revelation, friendship with God, and joy. Furthermore, He also promised that they would experience trials. All these the church readily accepts and rejoices in. But there is one promise that is often ignored, ridiculed, and even mocked, and that is when Jesus says to His church, “I will come and receive you into Myself, so where I am you will be also.” It's been 2000 years since Jesus uttered those words. Can we still really trust that promise? In his new teaching, “The Promise”, Amir Tsarfati reminds us that “He who promised is faithful.” Jesus will undoubtedly come to rapture His church to be with Him always. He emphasizes, too, that if we want to experience the joy of that great promise, we must personally know the Promiser. As we stand in faith and believe for what God has promised us, we need to make sure not to put the promise above the One who gave the promise. And as we seek Him first, we can be confident that He is a good Father who knows how to give good gifts to His children. // James 1:17 / Matthew 7:11 / Psalm 27:4 / Matthew 6:33
Sometimes we can get caught up in trusting MORE in our promise than the PROMISER. Fixing our eyes on our achievements can make us lose sight of what is ACTUALLY making us who we ARE.
In these four chapters God makes a covenant to bless Abram and the world through him--and Abram trusts God and keeps trusting God's covenant promises through delay, failure, and suffering. What does this have to do with you-
Romans and Politics 08 - Romans 8: A Promise is Only as Good as the Promiser - 3/24/19 by Denton North Church
Each of us has a different experience with promises made that were either kept or broken. One thing that we learned -- sometimes taking too long and sometimes having deeper and more lasting effects in our lives -- is the fact, that a promise is only...
Some have referred to the Book of Romans as Paul’s magnum opus. In Romans, Paul digs deeply into the gospel to reveal the many beautiful dimensions of God’s grace. In it’s 16 chapters, Paul unpacks “the power of God unto salvation.” In addition to it’s rich doctrinal content, Romans is also pointedly practical in the applications of the gospel for God’s people and their ministry. Come with us as we embark upon A Journey through the Gospel, that we might see more fully the majesty of God’s grace in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

God: The Promiser - Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 by Tuscaloosa First Assembly
Why would a loving God ask you to murder your child? Sophie challenges us to be faithful and obedient, trusting the Promiser over the promise.
Faith is central to the Christian life, and we are called “believers” (people of faith) for a reason—our lives are to be marked by a courageous stand, confidence, and focus upon Jesus Christ and His Word. In this faith-building sermon, Eric Ludy shares why it is essential to doubt and ignore the voice of the enemy (the Liar) and instead have an active faith, trust, and assurance in the unchanging Truth of the Word. When we know the One who has promised, it builds our trust and faith in the Promiser. In the time of testing, when everything around us appears bleak, it is our faith that allows us to boldly declare: “Watch what my God will do!” Listen to this sermon and you will find not only your faith strengthened, but you will discover the key to living the triumphant and victorious Christian life.

Overcoming The Enemies' Lies - Lie #6: "Your Dignity Will be Dishonored & Degraded" Isaiah 36-37 2 Chronicles 32:20-23 1 Peter 5:6-8 Lie #6: Your Dignity Will be Dishonored and Degraded Truth #6: Your Dignity Will be Deepened and Defended Overcoming Tactic #6: Humble yourself in prayer and honor Him as the Promiser and Deliverer, and He will exalt you in due time. (1 Peter 5:6-8) Speaker: Pastor Dale Evrist
The Abrahamic Covenant or the unconditional, unilateral covenant of God. Thursday, March 6, 2008 The specifics are all on the part of certain things you have to do - the negatives. While the land is specified as to directions, there is certainly no detail here that encourages obedience. This is a picture of the fact that there are many commands in the Bible that we are told to obey without God telling us what type of blessings we will receive if we fulfill them. No details are given on the blessings in the promise land until the obedience has been fulfilled. This is why there are times that we are told to go in a certain direction but not necessarily told what lies directly ahead of us if we do. JOH 21:19 He said this to hint at the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. JOH 21:19 Now this He said, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me!” JOH 21:22 Jesus said, “If I want him to live until I come again, what's that to you? You - follow me.” You must have enough trust in the Promiser and faith in His ability to give you what you need and what will make you happy. We should obey not to receive something but to honor our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. ACT 20:24 “I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, in order that I may finish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.” A lot of times you do not see the objective or the place of blessing. PHI 1:21 For me, living is Christ, likewise dying is profit. PHI 3:7-8 But whatever quality of things were gains to me, those things [gains] I have concluded as an expert as loss for the sake of Christ. Not only this but more than this, I conclude as an expert all things [Paul's pre-salvation human celebrityship and achievement] to be loss [singular] because of the surpassing greatness of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have forfeited all things, also, I keep on concluding as an expert them to be piles of dung in order that I may win for Christ, Until Abram becomes a good recruit where he will go ahead and obey an order without questioning it, he's not any good to God. You have to learn to obey God and do it whether you feel like it or not, and once you do then you continue your spiritual growth. For Abram, the only thing that is obscure in the order from God is the command to go to the land; not much is said about the land. So far, all the details are related to separation geographically and separation personnel wise. HEB 11:8 By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. What God does not make clear to us through personal revelation of His word in us, He intends for us to operate by means of faith, trusting in the object of faith, God Almighty. A lot of the details are not given on the land yet, that will come later, so therefore the land is to be the object of faith. Just like God tells us to reach certain stages of spiritual growth and we will be blessed. God gives us many promises and to believe the promises of God is one of the greatest manifestations of spiritual common sense. If God doesn't give you details on the objective then obey without details on the objective. God is going to test all of us in our lives to advance without a lot of encouragement and to do it just because He said to, without having to have a pat on the head. EPH 1:16 I do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; 1CO 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, I am with you in spirit, If it is hard work for the teacher then it's easy work for the student. The harder it is for the teacher, the easier it is for the student. In the spiritual realm there must be a relationship between your personal motivation and your spiritual life. PRO 16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives. To believe the promises of God before you see the result of them is the greatest demonstration of growing up spiritually. “What is the Abrahamic Covenant?” A covenant is an agreement between two parties. There are two types of covenants: conditional and unconditional. A conditional or bilateral covenant is an agreement that is binding on both parties for its fulfillment. Both parties agree to fulfill certain conditions. If either party fails to meet their responsibilities, the covenant is broken and neither party has to fulfill the expectations of the covenant. An unconditional or unilateral covenant is an agreement between two parties, but only one of the two parties has to do something. Nothing is required of the other party. The ceremony recorded in Genesis 15 indicates the unconditional nature of the covenant. Reward - “sakar” = “your benefit” Click Here to View Slide In verses 5-7, we see these three pictures, all of which serve to illustrate the point that the One who made the covenant or the promises has the ability to keep them.
