Ep. 89: What Is Biblical Anarchy? Christian Politics and The Justified Use of Force

In this episode of the Biblical Anarchy Podcast, Jacob revisits the pilot episode and foundational themes of the show, offering a refined and expanded exploration of biblical anarchy. He clarifies what "biblical anarchy" means by emphasizing the primacy of Scripture in Christian political thought, arguing that all authority must be evaluated against God's word. He traces the historical development of anarchist thought from Proudhon to Rothbard and explains how these ideas intersect with biblical principles. Diving into passages like 1 Samuel 8 and Romans 13, Jacob challenges common interpretations that justify centralized human authority, arguing instead that the Bible warns against monopoly governance and calls for a decentralized, just approach to human authority.Jacob also engages in a theological critique of the state, demonstrating how its coercive nature contradicts biblical principles of justice and proportionality. He addresses key objections, including the role of taxation and Jesus' statement about rendering unto Caesar, showing how these issues align with a Christian libertarian perspective. Through careful exegesis and historical analysis, this episode serves as a refreshed introduction to the podcast's mission—challenging statist assumptions and calling Christians to align their views on governance with the teachings of Christ.Full Episode Show Notes at BiblicalAnarchyPodcast.comThe Biblical Anarchy Podcast is part of the Christians For Liberty Network, a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute.Audio Production by Podsworth Media.

If an alien arrived on this planet having read only the writings of Marx, Proudhon and other great leftist socialist thinkers, they would be very surprised by the reaction to Rich Men North of Richmond. Oliver Anthony's song was loved by some and hated by others with the usual weird subtextual energies of the Culture Wars infusing both. This episode looks at why, from a historical theoretical it could have been otherwise. And why it wasn't. ____________________

Michael Pearce is a writer, painter, teacher and curator, as well as the founder of The Representational Art Conference (TRAC). His book "Kitsch, Propaganda and the American Avant-Garde" uncovers one thing Lenin, Hitler and Roosevelt had in common: A keen eye for art as state propaganda. Avoiding the old-fashioned vs modern dichotomy, Pearce shows the cultural historical roots of employing both figurative and abstract painting to further political correctness. Pearce traces it back to 19th century socialist thinking, and goes in-depth on the ideas of philosophers like Proudhon and Saint-Simon, as well as the protests of Emile Zola. First and foremost, however, he shows how the the American government and a few wealthy families made Avant-garde art into the preferred art form of the 20th century, casting it as the antidote to the sentimentality of kitsch.

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Charlotte Proudhon from the Institut Curie to talk about her work on circulating tumor DNA and circulating Epi-mutations as biomarkers in cancer. Charlotte Proudhon started out her research career by investigating circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). This kind of DNA is shed into the bloodstream by apoptotic tumor cells and can be analyzed after collection by a simple blood draw, which makes it a very useful biomarker for cancer. Using this approach cancers can be identified by their unique mutational fingerprint. However, soon the limitations of this approach became apparent and the fact that this ctDNA is actually shed into the bloodstream as nucleosomal particles was utilized by the Proudhon team and now the methylation fingerprint of the LINE-1 repeats is used as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis and monitoring of the success of a cancer treatment.

A Patron of Economic Update asks: "The strategy of d@w regarding changing society is, as far as I understand, to build a movement bottom up from cooperatives to network of cooperatives. I live in France and there was an important person, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, who favored that approach. He was in strong opposition to Marx's more aggressive approach and had some influence in the ideas of the participants in the adventure of the french commune. It would be interesting to know what your opinion/idea is regarding his philosophy. I mention this because a french left intellectual called Michel Onfray (he is quite popular) is for Proudhon's bottom up approach and strongly against a centrist approach through the state (Melanchon and the rest of the so called left). Onfray mentioned the workers co-op LIP which seems to have been killed by both left and right. He says that the co-op approach of LIP is strongly in sync with Proudhon."
