Once again, the 'Willy Willy' rhyme takes a back seat as Charlie Higson digs into the extraordinary life of Mary, Queen Of Scots.Crowned Queen at 18 months old, made Queen Consort of France before being widowed at 18, her 2nd husband was murdered, her 3rd was one of the murderers! Oh and then she was imprisoned for 20 years before being executed. No wonder so much has been written about her, including the book that spawned a Hollywood movie, 'My Heart Is My Own' by Charlie's guest John Guy. We're doing our BARBIE homework and throwing Robbie versus Gosling into the ring. Did we accidentally choose one of the worst Robbie movies? How freaking sad are the violins in MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS? Plus: we debate some digital cinematography choices.
Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Your host Jason Drury continues featuring music from archival releases of film music which appeared just before and after Christmas 2022 by first showcasing music from the expanded edition of Danny Elfman's classic score to SPIDER-MAN (La La Land Records) and then playing selections of a true archival classic MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS, composed by John Barry (Quartet Records). Jason then presents two suites, from two scores written for the same film, Alfred Hitchcock's FRENZY (Quartet Records). Firstly, you'll hear music from Henry Mancini's rejected score and then you'll hear the score used in the film. You'll then hear selections from Marco Beltrami's score to THE FACULTY (Intrada Records). The show ends with an alternate version of "Dry Your Tears, Afrika" by John Williams from the expanded release of AMISTAD (La La Land Records). We're back at it again entering the Tudor era. However instead of discussing women married to Henry VIII it's time to discuss the women unfortunate enough to be related to him. Margaret was Henry VIII older sister and a force to be reckoned with. As a young girl she was married to the king of Scot's and spent her entire life navigating bloody Scottish politics while annoying the hell out of her brother in the process. In our season finale, Megan and Elizabeth finish the terrifying story of Mary Queen of Scots. Queen Mary wasn't one to have good luck, and the events that unfolded during her execution proved just that. Her death has been memorialized as one of the most disturbing and unfair botched executions in Tudor history, and perhaps even in the history of mankind.
Mary Queen of Scots was known to attract enemies since she was a young girl. From her upbringing in France to becoming Queen of Scotland, her life was not easy. In this two-part season finale, Megan and Elizabeth dissect this doomed queen's life from one unfortunate event to the next to try and understand why it had to end with such a miserable execution.

D-mo is in the Another Damn Trivia Show tournament final.
