Imagine you're at a local networking event, your hand extended, ready to exchange business cards. But instead of a trade, you give your card away without expecting one in return. Strange? Maybe. But according to my recent guest, this simple act of generosity could be the golden key to unlocking unprecedented business growth and genuine relationships. That's what we're delving into today on More Perfect Marketing; it's not about transaction, it's about transformation. In the business world, we often get caught up in the numbers game—leads, conversions, and the bottom line. However, my conversation with Josh Elledge turned that notion on its head. He revealed that the most impactful leaders are those who approach each interaction with an open heart, ready to give without the immediate expectation of receiving. In a landscape brimming with overt sales pitches and insincere networking, Josh's approach refreshes like a cool breeze on a sweltering summer day. We live in an era where connection is currency, but Josh emphasizes that it's the quality, not quantity, of these connections that truly matters. By creating relationships beyond mere transactions, we pave the way for collaborative growth and success. And let's be real, who doesn't want to be that person in someone else's corner—offering insights, connections, and even friendship? Josh's strategy involves a discerning approach to relationships, choosing to invest time where it's most likely to flourish into partnerships that are more than just transactional. But don't be fooled, while it sounds altruistic, and it is, there's a strategic side to this method. By aligning ourselves with key people and offering value upfront, we lay the groundwork for a network that's more akin to a supportive community than a fickle fan base. Josh Elledge is a nice Midwestern boy from Michigan who relocated to Orlando so he could take his kiddos to Disney more often. Fun fact. Josh also used to be fat. Not just chubby, or the owner of a now-trendy “dad bod,” but seriously overweight (ask to see his old drivers' license photo). Ever the problem solver, he lost 55 lbs through ‘the couponing diet.' His other company, SavingsAngel helped make that happen. More on that later. He now enjoys going to restaurants that serve chicken waffles and biscuits, and ordering the salad… just to test his mental toughness. Josh is a serial entrepreneur who builds the companies he needs most in the world. In 2014, He launched UpMyInfluence to help entrepreneurs like himself attract the perfect audiences and grow their brands without the crazy costs and contracts associated with traditional marketing methods. UpMyInfluence (UMI) is a purpose-driven company focused on helping high-ticket agencies, coaches, consultants, and other B2B service providers skyrocket their sales through: authority, platform, and leading with generosity. Josh wholeheartedly believes UMI has a moral imperative to help entrepreneurs own their expertise, share their wisdom, and serve the world with their collective messages. In 2019, Josh and the team discovered something big… REALLY big. They created a B2B Sales System for themselves that worked so well… clients started asking for sales help in addition to all the PR help. Their first B2B sales client scored six figures in sales… in 90 days (with no paid ads)! Thinking it may have been dumb luck… they tried it again. BAM! Another six figures in sales in about 90 days (with no paid ads). UMI was the natural outgrowth of his first startup, SavingsAngel.com. Josh founded the consumer savings platform in 2007 to bring in what he most needed at the time (namely, more money). Armed with a background in information technology and Internet development, Josh's technologic tinkering cut his family-of-five's monthly grocery bill by half and created the most comprehensive coupon and sale-matching service available. SavingsAngel.com soon become a major operation employing up to 50 employees and grossing more than $6 million in sales with (I lied – THIS is the last time I say this) NO paid ads. When other entrepreneurs began knocking on his door desperate for the magic formula that would bring similar success, his new mission in life was born! Today, Josh is known as one of the foremost experts in online influence and authority. He's personally worked with thousands of entrepreneurs – working to turn them into media celebrities and successfully growing their B2B sales systems. Never shy in front of an audience, Josh is a frequent speaker at business and startup conferences including Social Media Marketing World and a Tony Robbins special invite event for his Business Mastery grads. He's appeared as an electrifying podcast guest more than 200 times. He's a regular consumer expert on Fox 35 Orlando< WKMG, and News 13, writes a syndicated column for nine newspapers (with total readership above 1.1 million readers), and regularly appears on more than 75 TV stations across the country. All told, Josh has appeared in the media (way) more than 2000 times. Passionate about his family, physical fitness (an avid fitness geek and 5K to marathon runner), and breaking out of Escape Rooms, Josh lives in Orlando with his wife and three children. Ask how many escape rooms he's gotten out of. Seriously… #ESCAPEROOMNERD The Michigan native's exuberance and natural curiosity have fueled his life's work as a journalist, technology specialist, entrepreneur and service-oriented family man. Josh served in the US Navy and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Family Sciences. Josh also wants the public to know he thinks Daylight Savings Time (and time zones, for that matter) are a relic. https://upmyinfluence.com/about-josh-elledge/ (https://upmyinfluence.com/about-josh-elledge/)...

Why Listen: I think it's amazing this conversation I had with Josh because most of it is about adding value and - what he calls - leveraging generosity for marketing and sales. And what's crazy for me is that the way that I met Josh a couple of months ago was through a connection, and I even forget how I met him. I run a company Captivate.ai that works all in marketing, and Josh is such an expert in sales systems and marketing. I think that this is a little bit different from a typical episode. We don't talk a lot about career transition. But we talk about getting attention, using marketing and sales in a way that's authentic and genuine and doesn't feel icky, is probably the best word I can use. One thing you'll take away from this episode is just a lot of great ideas about an authentic way to get attention, to market, to do sales, to get your message across, whether that's personal or professional. Second of all, I think that Josh is an incredible entrepreneur, and I admire him. I've been doing podcasting for four years, and I often feel like an old hat at this. Josh has been doing it for 14 years, a full decade longer than I have. His thoughts on entrepreneurship, on media, PR, all of these different things; there's just a goldmine here. About Josh: Josh is the founder and CEO of Up My Influence, which provides step-by-step tools, coaching, and public relation hacks for entrepreneurs to dramatically increase their sales by attracting their perfect audience, all at a fraction of the cost of traditional PR services. Since serving in the Navy as a broadcast journalist, he has founded and led multiple companies including SavingsAngel, and the Josh Elledge Consulting Company. Josh has been podcasting for 14 years - most people don't even know that podcasting has been around for that long - and he has had over 2000 media appearances.

You could ask him to explain–but if he could–it wouldn't be an irrational fear, now would it? A nice midwestern boy from Michigan, Josh also used to be fat. Not just chubby, or the owner of a now-trendy “dad bod,” but seriously overweight (ask to see his old drivers' license photo). Ever the problem solver, he lost 55 lbs through ‘the couponing diet' and now he enjoys going to restaurants that serve chicken waffles and biscuits, and ordering the salad. Just to test his mental toughness. Josh is a serial entrepreneur who builds the companies he needs most in the world. In 2014, He launched UpMyInfluence (previously upendPR) to help entrepreneurs like himself attract the perfect audiences and grow their brands without the crazy costs and contracts associated with traditional PR companies. SavingsAngel.com soon become a major operation employing up to 50 employees and grossing more than $6 million in sales with less than $500 in advertising spent. When other entrepreneurs began knocking on his door desperate for the magic formula that would bring similar success, his new mission in life was born! Today, Josh is known as one of the foremost experts in online influence and authority. He's personally worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs – working to turn them into media celebrities. It's tough when you live at the office and can't leave the office. I have to schedule stuff. If it's not scheduled I don't do it. If you're not developing products and services for what consumers are going to be demanding six months from now, you're really asleep at the wheel. This is a major disruptive moment right now consumer behavior is adjusting in a really big way. Everyone is a consumer we're all changing things right now. The world, because of covid19, has fast-forwarded a few years. Stop selling. You need to give as much value as you possibly can. Consistently show that you solve problems. People don't do business with businesses. They don't do business with services, products. People do business with people. Josh Elledge is U.S. Navy veteran who became a serial entrepreneur who builds the companies he needs most in the world. In 2014, He launched UpMyInfluence to help entrepreneurs like himself attract the perfect audiences and grow their brands without the crazy costs and contracts associated with traditional PR companies. Since then, UpMyInfluence (UMI) has evolved into a purpose-driven platform bent on totally DEMOCRATIZING access to influence. Josh wholeheartedly believes UMI has a moral imperative to help entrepreneurs own their expertise, share their wisdom, and serve the world with their collective messages. Oh, and to help members grow revenue too!UMI was the natural outgrowth of his first startup, SavingsAngel.com which had grown to more than 50 employees and grossed more than $6 million in sales with less than $500 in advertising spent. He did it all through building authority and serving audiences in the media.Josh is a frequent speaker at business and startup conferences including Social Media Marketing World and a Tony Robbins event for his Business Mastery grads. He's a weekly consumer expert on Fox 35 Orlando and News 13, writes a syndicated column for nine newspapers (with total readership above 1.1 million readers), and regularly appears on more than 75 TV stations across the country. How do you create a company that has generated over $6 million in revenue and over 2000 media segments with less than $500 in paid ads? We are not talking about an instant Amazon selling machine. We are talking about helping people save money on anything from their grocery bill, to travel, to cell phones, to you name it, with less than $500. I bet you are telling yourself that this has to be some sort of scam. Think again, this is all about building a formula that was born out of trial and error.Josh Elledge, Founder of SavingsAngel.com and UpMyInfluence.com has made all the financial mistakes from foreclosure to bankruptcy and is now a leader in the financial and influencer space. How is this possible? I can see that you are a little more interested, so let's continue.Robert Stevens, Founder of Geek Squad said, "Advertising is the price you pay for being unremarkable". Josh figured out how to make his mark as an influencer and package it. But this is just the beginning. Josh said, "We have to have meaning it what we do, money is important but when you wake up in the morning and all you're thinking about is that salary or your profits or your commissions, or who can I sell to?" We need to have purpose in what we are trying to accomplish.I ask you, where is your purpose in life? Josh has this figured out and it is about changing your mindset, just like creating a new way of advertising instead of dropping money on paid ads. Josh said, "The faster you can get to a mindset where you're thinking what is the value I can bring? How can I make someone else's life better? How can I inspire somebody today to live better?"Life is just easier when you focus on your purpose, your values, your mission, and why do you do what you do.This leads us to where the podcast really explodes. I am talking hold onto your seat because things get crah-hazy.You will get Josh's secret to cutting your grocery bill in half, you will find out how to save more than ever on even your cell phone bill. The information that is packed into this show will leave you craving for more savings and that is a good thing, because Josh has an entire podcast dedicated to helping you save more. Josh said, "if you listen to 30+ shows you are going to be in a completely different position with your money, and that's kind of the goal is by the way."Support the show
