Kate Baldwin is a two-time Tony Award and four-time Drama Desk Award nominee who has delighted audiences across the country with performances on Broadway, in concert and on television. Kate starred as Irene Molloy opposite Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce and Gavin Creel in the hit Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!, for which she was nominated for the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards. She originated the role of Sandra Bloom in Big Fish on Broadway and earned accolades and a Drama Desk Award nomination for her work as Leslie Lynnton Benedict in Michael John LaChiusa's Giant at The Public Theatre. She received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her role as Jen in Keen Company's 20th Anniversary revival of Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald's John & Jen. She garnered critical acclaim and a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Tom Kitt and John Logan's Superhero at Second Stage. But it was her starring role in the 2009 Broadway revival of Finian's Rainbow, which drew Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations and put her on the map as “a real musical theatre star.” (New York Post) Kate has appeared in the Broadway casts of The Full Monty, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Wonderful Town. Other New York theatre productions include Songbird at 59e59 and in The Dead, 1904 for Irish Rep, Fiorello! and Love Life for City Center Encores! She starred in The King and I at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Irving Berlin's White Christmas (San Francisco, Detroit, Toronto), The Women at The Old Globe, Henry V at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, She Loves Me at the Willliamstown Theatre Festival, and The Music Man and South Pacific at Arena Stage, earning a Helen Hayes Award nomination. She drew raves for her portrayal of Francesca Johnson in The Bridges of Madison County directed by original cast member Hunter Foster and for her turn as Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street at Goodspeed Opera House directed by original creator Randy Skinner. She has performed in concert with the American Pops Orchestra, New York Pops, Boston Pops, National Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Portland Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Chicago Symphony, American Songbook series at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and at the legendary New York nightclubs Feinstein's, Birdland and 54 Below. Her concert work also includes several appearances with Stephen Sondheim as a featured performer in his critically acclaimed evening, “A Conversation with Stephen Sondheim.”  On television, her work includes appearances on “The Gilded Age” (HBO),  “Law &Order: SVU” (NBC) “Just Beyond” (Disney Plus) “Live from Lincoln Center: Stephen Sondheim's Passion” (PBS) and “First You Dream: the Songs of Kander and Ebb” (PBS) Kate is a 2023 Chicago/Midwest Emmy nominee, alongside partners at HMS Media for creating and producing “Broadway Comes Home,” a love letter to her hometown of Milwaukee. How to tone you up your body in just a month? I'm sure you've heard it all before. “Planking is a full-body workout!” “You can totally transform your body in less than 5 minutes a day just by planking!” Well, I've definitely heard it plenty of times, so I finally decided to try it out for myself. Here's what happened when I did the 30-day plank challenge. I planked for 20 seconds on the first 2 days, for 30 seconds on days 3 and 4, and for 40 seconds on the 5th day. On days 7 and 8 of my experiment, I held a plank for 45 seconds. On days 9, 10, and 11, my goal was to do it for at least a minute. And that's when my confidence kinda faded. On day 14 I planked for 100 seconds, and on day 15 it was 110 seconds. My core was quaking like crazy, and my eyes were glued to my phone, waiting desperately for the timer to hit zero. After a little rest, I perfected my 2½ minute plank on days 20 and 21 and challenged myself to a 3-minute plank on days 22 and 23. It was around this time in the experiment when I noticed the tension that'd usually build up after sitting at my work desk all day was gone. On days 27 and 28, I did a 4-minute plank and already noticed that my abs were a lot stronger than they'd been at the start of the experiment. There wasn't that much of a difference visually, but I could feel that holding my plank was a lot more effortless than before. I didn't end up with a six-pack, which is a real bummer because I was kind of expecting that for some reason. But I definitely feel way stronger and healthier. Another thing that I've noticed is how much my posture has improved. What really surprised me was how much my mood and general approach to life has changed. I became way more confident and determined to not only finish the challenge but to change my life for the better as well. If you wanna try this experiment out for yourself, there are a few more things you need to know. First of all, don't be afraid of variety. Doing the same thing every single day gets a bit boring after a while. Don't forget about your doctor's permission! I know the plank seems really basic, but that doesn't mean it's without risks. In case you're looking for smart tips on how to make your clothes white and soft nearly for free – these life hacks are just for you. You can use some simple things you have at home in the washing machine to get even the most stubborn stains out easily and make your clothes dry faster. Aspirin gets deep into the fabric of stained clothes and effectively removes dirt. It's especially good for shirts with sweat stains since aspirin easily breaks up and lifts that frustrating yellowish tint. If you dissolve aspirin in cold water, it'll help you get rid of blood stains on your clothes! It's really important that the water be cold because hot water will only fix the proteins in the blood deep into the fabric. Experienced laundry “gurus” don't recommend adding liquid fabric softener when washing your whites. And that's because it doesn't let your clothes become as white as possible. Don't sort your clothes by their color, sort them by the density of the fabric. Heavy fabrics absorb more water than lighter ones, which is why the detergent gets washed out of different items in varying degrees. Scientists have actually come up with something called the “Sock Loss Index”! Psychologist Simon Moore and statistician Geoff Ellis teamed up to develop a formula explaining where our lost socks go. From her self-built straw bale house to her hand-sewn performance costumes to her deeply personal songs, the muse follows her everywhere she goes, and does its best to keep up. She just released her debut album, Visitor, seven years and one lifetime in the making. Produced with Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses, it's at once playful and fresh and, like Annie, pretty damn original. The cover of the record is a photograph of the artist jumping through a ring of fire on her motorcycle. The fire was real, the ring was homemade.The Morse Code is a reader-supported publication. She was living in Wyoming and a touring christian hip hop group saw her play and invited her to roll with them back to Tennessee. I mean of course.We discuss how her decision to break away from her small business designing handmade bags dovetailed unexpectedly with her first publishing deal, and how that led to sync licenses on several TV shows. And you might be hard pressed to get her to admit it, but Annie is an actor, and a good one. She was approached to star in the film A Funeral for Lightning directed by Emily Kai Bock, which premiered at TIFF and went on to win the Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film at the LA Film Festival. Like many of her opportunities, it was gifted, not sought.There's a word for people like Annie Williams and that word is autodidact. She teaches herself to do things and then she does those things at her own speed in a sort of secret dance with the world around her. Its an orchestration of energy, at once mysterious and inevitable.There's so much I won't tell you about, so you can discover it yourself.
