Connor and Dylan are joined by Kyle Selig (Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends, Mean Girls). Summer is upon us, and the twins are excited to welcome the dreamy and delightful Kyle Selig for his long-awaited episode of DRAMA. He brings his sunny personality and sense of humor to the pod for an amazing chat, almost like we're… old friends. Speaking of “Old Friends,” we chat about the beautiful Broadway production that Kyle is part of alongside Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, and friend of the pod Beth Leavel, as he sings the “Sondheim Tenor Sampler Platter.” Naturally, this trio gushes over Kyle's wife, Erika Henningsen (now starring in Just in Time), and recounts moments in their love story from Mean Girls to their wedding day. The conversation includes stories about Water for Elephants, Los Angeles living, and superstar Grey Henson. We reflect on The Goofy Movie, Welcome to Flatch, and Aaron Tveit and Gavin Creel's impact on a young Kyle. Stick around for Thunderbolts* and Miss Flo (yes gawd!), plus many doses of DRAMA. and the birth of a beautiful friendship among these millennial men. Send us a textAfter a few years living in the US, Ashley Day is preparing to make a highly anticipated return to the UK stage at Manchester Opera House in Come Fall in Love - the Musical, an adaptation of DDLJ. The exciting new musical boasts a top tier creative including book & lyrics by Olivier Award winner Nell Benjamin, music by legendary composers Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani and choreography by Olivier, Tony and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford. We also get to hear Ashley reflect on his remarkable career leading up to this point and discuss how the industry has transformed over his time working as one of the West End's most charming leading men. It's a fascinating conversation and we hope it won't be too long until we see Ashley Day treading the boards on UK shores in another hit show.Come Fall in Love opens at Manchester Opera House on 29th May and runs till 21 June 2025.Support the show

Today I present part two of my “In Memoriam” series, honoring treasured singers who have recently died. This week I focus on male singers, covering the gamut from opera singers (Dominic Cossa, Lando Bartolini, Eric Tappy, Steve Davislim, Siegfried Lorenz) to pop stars (James Darren, Kris Kristofferson); early music singers (Howard Crook) to Broadway icons (Ken Page, Gavin Creel). As with last week's episode, each of these singers left an indelible mark in their respective musical field(s) and each loss is felt profoundly, especially those like Steve Davislim and Gavin Creel, whose time to leave this earth came much too soon. Musically speaking this is a particularly eclectic episode, featuring everything from Monteverdi and Delalande, to country western standards. Other singers heard in the episode include André de Shields and Ute Gfrerer, as well as other artists who died over the course of the last year, including Robert Hale, Norman Shetler, Rachel Yakar, and Sinéad O'Connor. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. By clicking on the following link (https://linktr.ee/CountermelodyPodcast) you can find the dedicated Countermelody website which contains additional content including artist photos and episode setlists. Connor and Dylan are joined by Taylor Trensch (Dear Evan Hansen, Hello, Dolly!). The twins are bouncing off the walls with excitement to have Taylor, a dream guest, on the podcast, having been in the audience for his professional debut performance in Spring Awakening over 15 years ago. Taylor Trensch is a star, y'all! He dishes on his extraordinary career, ranging from working alongside Gavin Creel in Hello, Dolly! to his recent two-hander experience with Cynthia Nixon. And just like that… we gagged! Connor dreamcasts Taylor in the titular role in Oh, Mary, while everyone eagerly anticipates Nicole Scherzinger's arrival on Broadway. We go down memory lane to Tampa, where Taylor's love of theatre began with (spoiler alert) Nancy's tragic end in Oliver! These three gab about their favorite divas (Bernadette! Lillias! Dakin Matthews!), Taylor's onstage wigs, and working with dogs and rats in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. We gush over Cristin Milioti, dissect the Ryan Murphyverse, and giggle nonstop. Did Taylor (as Boq) perform a triple pirouette during “Dancing Through Life” in Wicked? That's one mystery we'll never know the answer to. Be sure to see this superstar in Safety Not Guaranteed as BAM through October 20.Follow Taylor on InstagramSee Safety Not Guaranteed at BAM! Gavin Creel is a Tony winner and all-around Broadway royalty, but he is not immune to a history of shame and self-doubt. Bobby and Gavin share a common story of growing up gay and being rejected by a culture that led to patterns of self-rejection that they both still navigate, while also sharing how they've healed through self-acceptance and community.
