Iran playing the Economic war, America is playing kinetic war

00:02 All right, let's go to the WRD talk line. We'll talk to Brian in Gaffney. How you doing, Brian? Hey, Charlie, I don't agree with uh Joy Reid and I don't want Iran to win the war. Robert Kiyosaki said that Iran is playing an economic war while the United States is playing a kinetic war. And the longer they're in it, they're winning. If they're not losing, then they're winning because the United States can't take them out right now. 00:31 And Iran is winning the economic war by controlling the Strait of Hormuz. And it's going to take a lot of uh begging of Donald Trump to get South Korea or England or anybody else to help with the Strait of Hormuz. I don't think it's going to take a lot of begging at all. don't think it's going to take a lot of No, no, no, no, no, no, because remember they're going to benefit from this too. I don't think they will though. Well, then uh screw them. 00:59 Then screw them. mean, I know Keir Starmer is a socialist, then we ought to put massive tariffs off anything that comes through the Gulf of the Strait of Hormuz and show them exactly they're there. Trump is already exposing the lily-livered, do-nothing nations out there, like Canada, like France, like England, the ones that were supposed to be. Did you know that France is harboring Iranian regime members right now? I mean, not France, Canada. 01:30 I'm sure they are. This is a war that we shouldn't have been in though. is going to happen like Vietnam. No, it is not. I guarantee you it's not. It's only been two weeks. We just took Karg Island. The north, east and west of Iran are mountains. The only way we can get in is through the south and we're getting 2,500 Marines to go there. Just like Vietnam, they'll get 5,000 to help them and then 10,000 more after that. This is a big mistake. Okay. 01:59 All right, we'll see, Brian, we'll see. Hadn't been a mistake so far. just took... This whole thing, let me tell you something. You know why this thing is the way it is? Because right now, you know who Donald Trump is really worried about? The people of Iran. He's worried about the people of Iran. Now, if we were at war with the people of Iran, this thing would be over with. 02:27 You go in, he could take out their entire electric infrastructure right now. He could have blown up all of Cargillian instead of the military installations that they had there. He could have taken it all out, but he didn't. All of this waffling that I'm seeing from a lot of Republicans, so-called Republicans out there, is very unappetizing to me. 02:54 I just had a text they're talking about, oh, we're sick and tired of Donald Trump. Donald Trump lied. We need a true MAGA leader. Oh, do we really? Well, there was a poll that was done by YouGov slash The Economist that say that 91%, 91 % of MAGA supporters approve of President Trump's actions in Iran. 91%. 03:22 Among all Republicans, 83 % approved. So don't give me this, know, oh, MAGA doesn't like, no, you're wrong. You're wrong. As usual, you're wrong. So CNN recently did a poll and I know they hated to report this, but here's what it was. Are voters feeling about Democrats right now? Yeah, I mean, Democrats in the minds of the American public. 03:49 are lower than the Dead Sea. What are we talking about here? Well, let's take a look at the net approval rating for Democrats in Congress. You said it, Kate Baldwin, the lowest ever. Look at this. Overall, they are 55 points underwater. Their approval rating is south of 20%. It's even worse when you look at independents. Look at this, negative 61 points. That means that their approval rating is 61 points lower than their disapproval rating. Quinnipiac has been polling this question for the better part of the 21st century. 04:19 They have never found Democrats, at least those in Congress, in worse shape than they are right now. Worse than ever. Now, once you think about this, Democrats are worse. They have the lowest approval rating that they hav ...

Kate Baldwin has a way of looking at the industry that is both deeply grounded and incredibly refreshing. She opens up about her approach to playing Roxie Hart in Chicago, describing her version of the character as a "Bad Nellie Forbush" who is just trying to survive. She also shares the fantastic story of how wearing the "wrong" dress to her Hello, Dolly! audition ended up being the perfect choice for Jerry Zaks and helped her find the spine of Irene Molloy. We also dig into the shifts in her personal life and career philosophy since 2020. Kate speaks candidly about letting go of the pressure to be a crossover star in TV and film and instead embracing her true love for musical theater, which she affectionately calls the "Island of Misfit Toys." From the lessons she learned growing up in Wisconsin to the joy of throwing big parties just because she can, this conversation is a celebration of finding out what actually matters to you. Kate Baldwin is a two-time Tony Award nominee for her performances in Finian's Rainbow and Hello, Dolly!, roles that also earned her Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. Her extensive Broadway career includes starring roles in Big Fish, The Full Monty, Wonderful Town, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Off-Broadway, she received Drama Desk nominations for her work in Giant at The Public Theater and John & Jen with the Keen Company, as well as a Lucille Lortel nomination for Superhero at Second Stage. She most recently starred as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Emphasizing simplicity, we highlight how gym workouts and other activities can enhance these physical attributes, ultimately benefiting athletes in their swimming and cycling endeavors. We explore the importance of simplifying swimming coaching techniques to focus on key aspects of an athlete's performance. We examine how individual swimmer's capabilities determine their stroke style and how this links to their gym routines, emphasizing the need for tailored mobility and strength exercises. We discuss the common mistake of overcomplicating training with trendy, complex exercises seen on social media, and the value of basic, yet essential, exercises like the shoulder external rotation. Additionally, we touch on the significance of shoulder girdle strength and stability, particularly on the posterior side, for achieving a long and effective stroke reach. We also discuss the anatomy of the shoulder joint, highlighting its unique structure and the role of rotator cuff muscles in maintaining stability without sacrificing mobility. We focus on the importance of strengthening and stabilizing the scapula and rotator cuff for overall shoulder health, particularly for athletes. We discuss the benefits of exercises like bent-over rows and scapula push-ups for building muscles such as the rhomboids and the serratus anterior, which are crucial for stabilizing the scapula. We emphasize the necessity of balancing rotator cuff work with exercises that target the muscles around the scapula, advocating for a 50/50 approach in workout programs. Additionally, we touch on the role of mobility in sports like swimming and cycling, highlighting how mobility affects performance aspects like reach, rotation, and breathing coordination. To improve mobility, Kate recommends dynamic movements over static stretches, as these can enhance muscle fascicle length whilst also building strength, tailored to the individual needs of the athlete. Lastly, we focus on the concept of reciprocal inhibition and its role in enhancing mobility and strength, particularly in swimmers and triathletes. We explore strengthening exercises that can improve the coordination between agonist and antagonist muscles, allowing for a full range of motion and mitigating tightness. Kate shares specific workouts like the lat hang, scapula hang, and movements that target the rhomboids and lats, providing not only strength but also mobility benefits. We discuss the importance of core engagement and proper form to maximize the effectiveness of these exercises. The conversation also touches on the common issue of shoulder tightness due to prolonged positions in sports, such as the TT position in cycling, and how certain exercises, like the overhead dowel movement, can counteract this by opening up the chest and simultaneously strengthening the shoulders and core. Kate offers practical tips on maintaining correct posture and avoiding excessive strain during these exercises. LINKS: Dr Kate Baldwin of Valere Endurance at https://valereendurance.com/

Mikki and Bev discuss the importance of pre-sleep protein intake for athletes. They explain how consuming protein before bed can help athletes meet their daily protein and caloric goals, which can be challenging due to busy schedules and time-consuming training. Pre-sleep protein, particularly casein, is beneficial as it is a slow-digesting protein that releases amino acids into the bloodstream over an extended period, providing a steady supply to the muscles throughout the night. This can aid in muscle protein synthesis and recovery. A recent study also showed that pre-sleep protein consumption increases both mitochondrial and myofibrillar protein synthesis rates during overnight recovery from endurance exercise. Tim joins us for our Coaches Catch Up and we review the weekend's races plus we give you a preview of our interviews out tomorrow with UltraMan World Champion Simon Cochrane and Dr Kate Baldwin of Endurance Movement. Also, we give a sneak preview of the upcoming Fitter Technique Training Camp in Noosa. Dr Kate Baldwin from Endurance Movement will be providing gait analysis and strength conditioning programs for participants, as well as the opportunities for riders to explore Noosa and the surrounding region in their own time. We discuss the common misconceptions around high rep ranges and the need to go heavy when it comes to performance-based measures. We also talk about starting light, getting used to the gym environment and dealing with the muscle soreness that comes with strength training. We discuss the significance of a sensible progression of load and muscle contractions, as well as the difference in muscle soreness between experienced and inexperienced athletes. Kate shares her expertise on how strength training for endurance athletes should be complementary, rather than detrimental, to their endurance training. Lastly, we explore effective strength training strategies such as gradually decreasing reps in reserve, transitioning from machine-based exercises to free-weight movements, and the importance of warm-up exercises and activations before a heavy lifting session. In this episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Kate Baldwin from Endurance Movement about the evolution of strength and conditioning in endurance sports. We delved into the benefits of strength training and how to effectively incorporate it into a training programme. Focusing on exercises like back squats and hamstring-centric movements, we discussed how these targeted exercises can improve running performance and overall strength. The importance of core activation is also highlighted, but not through isolated exercises. Instead, we emphasize incorporating core work into compound exercises to save time and increase efficiency. We also explored the concept of 'reps in reserve' as a way to adjust for fatigue and ensure optimal results from strength training sessions. Additionally, we discussed common barriers to strength training, such as uncertainty regarding technique and load progression and the importance of prioritizing strength training for injury prevention, performance improvement and increased robustness. Welcome to Season 7! One of the joys that can come from being an actor, besides getting to perform on stage, and feeling the energy of a live audience, is that of working with other wonderful actors and collaborating on stage as well as building friendships off stage. Throughout the past six seasons, I've had the pleasure of bringing on some of these wonderful castmates, and not only share with you their stories, but I to get to learn a little more about them as well. This past year I was cast in my second production of 42nd Street, this time at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut. You heard from Kate Baldwin last season, and so for this first episode of the season, I wanted to bring on another wonderful performer from that production.  Blake Stadnik is probably most well known for his role as Jack Damon in NBC's This Is Us, but he's actually been performing since his childhood thanks to his mother, who introduced him to dancing and performing after he lost the majority of his eyesight due to Stargardt's Disease. He went on, though, to get his BFA in musical theater from Penn State University. In our conversation, Blake will talk more about this disease and how it's impacted his life on and off stage. We'll also discuss the responsibilities of being an actor, and how Blake has had to remind himself at times why he is a performer. Lastly, he shares the tragic events that led to his father's passing, the impact of that loss, and the ways in which he carries on his father's legacy. Timeline of this episode's conversation: 03:12 - Blake and Patrick discuss 42nd Street at Goodpseed  06:54 - How Blake dances with Stargardt's Disease 13:53 - Story #1: Not getting cast because of his disability 19:47 - The limits others place on Blake vs. those he places on himself 33:11 - Story #2: Blake's internal struggle with selfishness for being an actor  38:55 - Story #3: Losing his father just as he was about to start This Is Us 49:23 - Missing his father and carrying on his legacy     Subscribe to WINMI If you wanna listen to our full conversation (with Audition Stories and the Final Five questions) as well as get episodes a week early from now on, then become a monthly or yearly subscriber to Why I'll Never Make It. For only the second time in my career, I'm doing back to back shows at the same theater. First there was Anne of Green Gables this past summer and now there's 42nd Street here at the Goodspeed Opera House. It's a show I've done before a few years back and in the same role as well, only this time there's a lead producer who's working to bring this production (and hopefully its cast) to Broadway. It has Carina-Kay Louchiey as the young starlet Peggy Sawyer and Max von Essen as the hard-nosed director Julian Marsh. I'm in the role of Pat Denning, playing opposite one of my favorite leading ladies of Broadway... Kate Baldwin, who plays the veteran actress Dorothy Brock, joins the podcast to talk about this current production of 42nd Street and why it means so much to the both us. Then we take a surprisingly candid and unvarnished look at her career and why she was told she'd probably never have one in theater. We also discuss the ways we performers often compare ourselves to others and how to handle those times when someone else books the show instead of us. And it was back in 2017 that MAESTRA MUSIC was formed by this composer/lyricist and music director to give support, visibility, and community to the women who make the music in the musical theater industry. Their membership is made up of female-identifying, non-binary, and gender non-conforming composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, rehearsal pianists and other musicians who are an underrepresented minority in musical theater. It was back in Season 4 that Stitt came on this podcast to talk about her career and this wonderful organization.   FINAL FIVE QUESTIONS WITH KATE BALDWIN In addition to our main conversation, Kate answered the five final questions on topics that we only briefly touched on in this episode.
