Wie fühlt sich eine Depression wirklich an? Im Podcast „Feel Hamburg“ spricht Journalist und Autor Benjamin Maack außergewöhnlich offen über sein Leben mit einer wiederkehrenden Depression – ehrlich, selbstkritisch und immer wieder mit überraschendem Humor.Maack erklärt, warum Depression weit mehr ist als Traurigkeit. Sie koste ihn oft „20 bis 40 Prozent“ seiner täglichen Kraft und begleite ihn seit vielen Jahren. Lange habe er geglaubt, sein Zustand sei normal, obwohl sein Leben von außen erfolgreich wirkte. Erst nach einem Zusammenbruch erhielt er die Diagnose und begann zu verstehen, was mit ihm geschieht.Besonders eindrucksvoll beschreibt der SPIEGEL-Redakteur, wie sich Depression auf das eigene Denken auswirkt. Anerkennung von außen komme bei ihm häufig nicht an, stattdessen dominierten Selbstzweifel. Trotzdem hat er gelernt, Warnzeichen früh zu erkennen und Strategien zu entwickeln, die ihm helfen: Eisbaden, Fahrradfahren, Gespräche mit anderen Menschen oder einfach die Erkenntnis, dass „Reden immer gut“ ist.Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt des Gesprächs ist der Umgang der Gesellschaft mit psychischen Erkrankungen. Maack freut sich darüber, dass heute offener über Depression gesprochen wird. Gleichzeitig weist er darauf hin, dass viele Betroffene aus Angst vor beruflichen Nachteilen weiterhin schweigen müssen. Seine eigene Offenheit sei deshalb auch ein Privileg.Natürlich geht es auch um Hamburg. Benjamin Maack erzählt von seinem Weg aus dem niedersächsischen Bardowick in die Hansestadt, von seiner Heimat Harburg, wo er sich den Menschen besonders verbunden fühlt, und davon, warum er lieber mit Fremden ins Gespräch kommt, als sich hinter Vorurteilen zu verstecken. Was machen, wenn sich Großstädte über ihre politischen Grenzen hinaus ausdehnen? In Berlin hatte man diese Problematik 1920 mit dem nicht in allen neuen Stadtteilen beliebten Groß-Berlin-Gesetz beantwortet, das die Hauptstadt – und ihr Steueraufkommen – um ein Vielfaches wachsen ließ. In und um Hamburg lag die Sache noch diffiziler, weil hier nicht nur unterschiedliche Kommunen aufeinandertrafen, sondern ein eigenes deutsches Land, Hamburg, von preußischem Territorium umgeben war. Während man sich in dessen Hauptstadt Berlin mit allerlei administrativen Tricks dagegen wappnete, Harburg, Altona oder Wandsbek womöglich an Hamburg zu verlieren, hegte man in der Hansestadt die Sorge, dass es die Preußen als Gegenleistung für eine solche Verschmelzung auf den Hamburger Status als Bundesstaat abgesehen hatten. Die Details entnimmt Frank Riede für uns dem Hamburger Anzeiger vom 7. Januar 1925.

Wie zu Berliner Zeiten sind wir bei Auf den Tag genau auch in den letzten hanseatischen Monaten bekennend großzügig beim Zuschnitt unseres Textcorpus verfahren: Obwohl weder Wandsbek, noch Harburg, noch Altona in den 1920er Jahren zu Hamburg gehörten, finden sich auch dort erschienene Blätter regelmäßig unter unseren „Hamburger Zeitungsnachrichten aus der Welt vor einhundert Jahren“. Heute gehen wir erstmals den umgekehrten Weg und präsentieren einen Presseartikel aus Cuxhaven, das mittlerweile bekanntlich in Niedersachsen liegt, seinerzeit, d.h. noch bis 1937 aber (ähnlich wie Geesthacht oder Bergedorf) als eigenständige Stadt im Hamburger Staatsgebiet firmierte. Die Zeitung Alte Liebe war benannt nach einem gleichnamigen Schiffsanleger und Wellenbrecher im Hafen von Cuxhaven. Entsprechend nautisch fällt auch die Metaphorik aus, mit der man am 5. Januar 1925 auf die eher schleichenden Fortschritte bei der Bildung einer neuen Reichsregierung blickte. Die spiegelglatte See im politischen Berlin betrachtet für uns Frank Riede.

Seit dem 1. August sendet Auf den Tag genau nicht mehr Artikel aus Berliner, sondern aus Hamburger Tageszeitungen, aber gelegentlich lassen wir bei dieser Verabredung auch Fünfe gerade sein. So wenig nämlich Harburg (siehe der Text von gestern) und vollumfänglich auch Bergedorf (Spoiler: der Text von morgen) 1924 zu Hamburg gehörten, galt das auch für Wandsbek, dessen traditionsreiche Zeitung, der Wandsbeker Bote, sich damals im Untertitel nicht von ungefähr Stormannsche Nachrichten nannte. Der Leitartikel am 8. August 1924 blickte indes weit über holsteinische wie hanseatische Kreis- respektive Stadtgrenzen hinaus in die britische Hauptstadt London, wo seit dem 16. Juli mal wieder über die deutschen Reparationszahlungen an die Siegermächte gerungen wurde. Über den seinerzeitigen Stand der Verhandlungen auf dem Weg zu dem nach dem amerikanischen Vizepräsidenten benannten Dawes-Plan informiert uns Frank Riede.

Zu den wenigen Hamburger Tageszeitungen, die Drittes Reich und Zweiten Weltkrieg überlebten, zählten die Harburger Anzeigen und Nachrichten. Bis 2013 erschien dieses 1844 gegründete Blatt und war damit zum Schluss das älteste seiner Art in Hamburg. Für 1924 trifft die politische Zuordnung „in Hamburg“ natürlich noch nicht zu, denn Harburg gehörte damals bekanntlich zu Preußen, und so nimmt es denn auch kein Wunder, dass in unserem heutigen Bericht vom 7. August über das Wachstum des Luftverkehrs dreimal von Berlin und sogar fünfmal von London die Rede ist, der Name der Freien und Hansestadt vor den Toren Harburgs aber kein einziges Mal vorkommt. Den richtigen Riecher, was die Bedeutung des Flugzeugs als Verkehrsmittel der Zukunft angeht, hat der Artikel gleichwohl. Für uns in die Luft geht Rosa Leu.

Der Mann, der heute mein Gast ist, war schon mal mein Gegner in einer großen Fernsehquizshow. Damals hat er haushoch gewonnen – trotzdem haben wir uns aber sofort sehr gut verstanden. Sebastian Ströbel hat mir direkt von seinen vier Töchtern erzählt und von seiner Sorge darüber, in was für einer Welt sie aufwachsen. Wir haben damals Backstage über deutsche Politik diskutiert, über Rechtspopulismus, Klimawandel... Und als er mir dann auch noch auf Instagram einige von euch schrieben, dass ihr große Fans von ihm seid, da habe ich gedacht: Den muss ich mal einladen zu Deutschland3000. Eigentlich ist Sebastian Schauspieler. Er blickt auf über 50 Rollen zurück, von Actionserie bis Liebesfilm. Aber eine sticht dabei besonders heraus: Der Bergretter im ZDF. Seit bald zehn Jahren befreit Sebastian in der Rolle von Rettungssanitäter Markus Kofler Menschen in den Alpen aus brenzligen Situationen und fährt damit regelmäßig mega Quoten ein. Diese Rolle hat sein Leben enorm verändert. Nicht nur ist er viel bekannter geworden, sondern er teilt seine Zeit jetzt auch auf zwischen seiner Dreh-Heimat in Österreich und dem zu Hause seiner Familie im 1.000 Kilometer entfernten Hamburg. Wie klappt das also mit dem Vater sein, wenn man so viel weg ist? Wir haben über moderne Erziehung und veraltete Märchen gesprochen, darüber, welche seiner Stunts Sebastian selbst macht und welche nicht. Und wieso ausgerechnet Tom Kaulitz und Heidi Klum offenbar besser über die Bergretter Bescheid wissen als er selbst. Bei unserem Treffen wollte Sebastian mir Harburg zeigen, einen außen gelegenen Stadtteil von Hamburg, in dem ich vorher noch nie gewesen war.
