WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON'T BLEED!This week, we're joined by Simon Spurrier (Coda / Damn Them All) as we discuss his comics origins, wrestling with “playing the hits” in comics, taking over writing duties on The Flash, and more!IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books! Our theme song is “Where's the Poison” by Summer People.Enjoy!Hello again. This podcast is a true miracle getting to you this week, as we tried to tape it last week and all hell broke loose. I had deadlines, Ethan got super sick, Si had stuff come up, and Griffin remained dead. So we scrambled to tape it yesterday and get it edited for today. And, as always, when I say “we” I mean Ethan but I wanted to take some credit. So give “us” a big round of applause.I was very excited to finally get Si on the show. In addition to being friends for years, he is a writer who constantly gets me excited about comics. From character defining runs on X-MEN books and HELLBLAZER, to groundbreaking creator owned books like CODA, ANGELIC, GODSHAPER, CRY HAVOC, THE SPIRE, STEP BY BLOODY STEP, and DAMN THEM ALL, each new title changes and reinvents what I think I know about his work. So it was a blast to get to catch up, and even more fun to get to pick his brain about how he does what he does.Hope you dig the interview. And if you do, I'd urge you to grab some of his books from your local shop. And this week in IDBClassic we have Part II of our interview with Writer/Artist/Raconteur Ryan Stegman. Enjoy all the weird s**t that comes out of his mouth and preorder his new series THE MISSIONARY at your local comic shop today. That's it for me.Stay safe. Take care of each other. Alas, poor Griffin!-Matthew RosenbergNYC 9/3/24 This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit ashcanpress.substack.com
Let's take a walk. Step by Bloody Step by Si Spurrier and Matias Bergara is truly a gem of a miniseries. It's an almost wordless fantasy story about a girl and her giant guardian traversing across their world. Featuring beautiful imagery and densely layered artwork that communicates the story of their journey, Step by Bloody Step is a work that not only demands your attention, but deserves it. Join us as we discuss and analyze it! If you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or corrections, we're here. Feel free to hit us up on our socials, or email us! We have a Linktree here: linktr.ee/betweenthegutters Thanks again to Corey J. Beats for producing our theme music. Check out all of his music on various platforms here: linktr.ee/Coreyjbeats
In this episode, creators Paul Duffield and Jaws discuss Si Spurrier, Matias Bergara and Matheus Lopes' wordless fantasy comic, Step by Bloody Step. It's a deep discussion, and there'll be spoilers for the story and themes of the comic, so you might want to pause now, read the book and listen once you've had your own reaction. The episode is designed to work regardless of whether you've read it or not, so if you don't mind spoilers, dive right in!Next episode we'll be discussing On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden, so if you want to read along with us, pick up a copy and read it over the next two weeks. To support the podcast and access the AoC Podcast Discord, you can join Jaws' Patreon

Nerd Escape episode 29, features the silent (no dialogue) adventure fantasy Image comic book Step by Bloody Step! Written by Simon Spurrier, graceful loving illustrations by Matias Bergara, and the moody color by Matheus Lopes. Step by Bloody Step is intrinsically simple, for it is about a girl who awaken into the world. She has no memories. No name. No language. Nothing... Except an armor giant who protects her on a destiny driven adventure where they only have each other to depend on. Nerd Escape cohost Jublar and Cami gush over this beautiful story that is told with illustrations alone. Music by: DJ Cami Jimmy Fontanez- Dub Hub Lakey Inspired - Blue Boi, Overjoyed

Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss out fav bits of nerd news: Dune 2 has started production and there is going to be a live action tv-show remake of Eragon on Disney+. With San Diego Comic Con in full swing, there are a lot of upcoming movies/tv-shows that piqued our interest: Black Panther 2, Antman 3, Shazam 2, the new She Hulk trailer looks way better, A League of their Own TV-show, a Munsters Movie, and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. As for bingeing, Big Pops watched Station 11 (again!) and watched Reacher for the first time. Sis is finally finally done with all of Stranger Things, and she watched the Hulu original movie The Princess. Then, Pops shares his pull list! This week he introduces us to Nightwing Issue 94 by DC; Iron Man Issue 21 by Marvel (which is a new story arc if you were looking for a good place to jump into collecting); as well as Wild Fire Issue 1 by Dark Spaces Impact, the Scott Snyder imprint at IDW. His new number 1 s the first Alien Annual by Marvel. With his Book of the Week being Do a Power Bomb Issue 2 by Image. This week we reviewed the 1995 film, Babe, and the Image 4 issue wordless comic Step by Bloody Step. This episode was originally recorded on 7/25/22. Check us out on twitter @sisandbpops
