Interview: Matthew Rosenberg We're Taking Everyone Down with Us #1 out March 26 (FOC March 3) Artist Stefano LandiniColorist Roman TitovLetters Hassan Otsmane-ElhaouStory and ThemesWe're Taking Everyone Down With Us blends super-spies, mad scientists, and robots with themes of family and revenge. What drew you to this mix of genres and how did it shape the story's tone?Annalise's journey is centered around two big choices—revenge or normalcy. What inspired this core conflict, and how do you balance her emotional arc with the high-stakes action?Favorite James Bond? You've worked on grounded crime stories like 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank and more fantastical ones like What's the Furthest Place From Here?. How does We're Taking Everyone Down With Us build on or depart from those previous works?Family seems to be a recurring theme in much of your work. What's unique about the father-daughter relationship in this story?Characters and DevelopmentThe story leans into some wild concepts—super-spies, futuristic tech, and global domination. Were there any particular influences from spy fiction, sci-fi, or pop culture that helped shape these elements?Process and LegacyYou've mentioned this story turned out funnier and more heartfelt than you originally planned. Were there any moments during the writing process where you surprised yourself with how the story evolved? With your earlier work, like 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank, now being adapted into a film, how do you think your storytelling has changed or evolved over the years, and how does We're Taking Everyone Down With Us reflect that growth?Fun/Silly QuestionIf Annalise's robot bodyguards were to pick a theme song for their revenge mission, what song would they choose and why?DC vs. Vampires QuestionsSwitching gears to DC vs. Vampires World War V, we already spoke wayyyyy back in August about the series before it launched, but with the special DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1 and essentially half the maxiseries out, (#7 out Mar 12th, 2025), how are you digging the fan reaction? With "DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1" releasing this week, Are there themes or messages you're particularly excited to explore in this installment?Alfred is becoming more or less the “good” guy main character, Can you discuss the psychological and moral complexities you aimed to portray in Alfred as he navigates his new identity as a GL?If DC vs. Vampires was made in 2026 riffing off the Absolute Universe, how would it be different?Anything you could tease for the second half of this series?

Jace welcomes writer Matthew Rosenberg back to the show to chat about We're Taking Everyone Down With Us, his upcoming title from Image Comics. Somewhere between the smaller cast and grounded story of 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank and the fantastical setting of What's the Furthest Place From Here, you know you are going to get great characterization. Inspired in story and style a bit by spy films of the 60's, this story tells the tale of 13-year old Annalise who's left all alone in the world after he mad-scientist father is killed by a super-spy. Having only her dead father's robot bodyguard by her side Annalise has a chance to live a normal life for the first time. However, the desire to avenge the death of her father may take that chance away forever. Which path will she choose and just how will she enact her revenge if she chooses that path? Gotta read it to find out!

A quick lil recap of our favorite books from New Comic Book Day on the week of 1/12, we get into What's the Furthest Place From Here, We Ride Titans, Buffy the Last Slayer and more!
4 Kids Walk Into A Bank: A Masterclass in StorytellingFour days before Pitchers and Catchers reported for the greatest Cubs season of my lifetime (or really anybody's) I saw this headline at The Nerdist: 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank is Wes Anderson Meets Reservoir DogsAnd that's all it took, I was hooked. I knew I NEEDED to read this book, and the first issue couldn't come soon enough. The story was good enough to keep me hooked through a release schedule that involved 3-6 months between issues. Good enough for me to buy digital copies so that I would have easy access anywhere I went. Good enough to buy it in hardcover to showcase it on my bookshelf. And when Tyler asked me to do this podcast, planning our first episode for the week that Matthew Rosenberg & Tyler Boss were to release their reunion What's the Furthest Place From Here? It immediately popped into my head as the first book that I wanted to take a deep dive on for our show. Then as I re-read it I realized that it was not just the story but the ways in which that story was told that made this book not just good, but truly among the greats. With that in mind, Tyler and I decided that we would discuss the things we liked most about how the story was told rather than just the story itself.Consider becoming a patron!

Ransomware No wrestling toys were bought during the recording of this episode. (That is a lie) •Invoicing inconstancies between the various comic publishers. •A ransomware attack on Diamond Comic Distributors and how it affected EVERYONE in comics retail. •The complete lack of 1st pressings of the What's the Furthest Place From Here 7” vinyl editions. •Adding invoicing to our Hold policy. •Most new in-store signs are up! •Almost having a commercial shot in Challengers and having to close for 2 days for it. •We're using the Marvel Unlimited app (90% for the “It's Jeff” comic strip). Thanks again to Markisan Naso (“By The Horns”, “Voracious”) for this episode's segment break.

If there’s anything we’ve learned this year, it’s that deep down, everyone loves ska. This week we provide yet another example of an unexpected band releasing a ska song: Screaming Females. They will be releasing a cover of The Selecter’s “On My Radio” next month. The song is being released as part of the deluxe edition of the comic series What’s The Furthest Place From Here? which is written by punk lover Matthew Rosenberg, who has written many popular comic books (Spiderman, Wolverine, etc)We got a sneak of Screaming Females’ “On My Radio” cover, and let me tell you, it is awesome. Good enough that it inspired us to bring them on the show to tell us about the tune and their relationship to ska. We also discuss the New Brunswick scene (Where Catch 22 are kings!), how guitarist Marissa Paternoster nearly played in The Slits, how drummer Jarret Dougherty’s bout of tendonitis led to an obsession with Our Band Could Be Your Life, The Minutemen, and DIY culture. And last and perhaps most importantly, we talk about Taylor Swift. If you enjoyed this episode, please share it with your friends, and on social media. That's right!! We managed to trick another actual comics industry person into talking with us for over an hour! This time it is Tyler Boss, known for his art on 4 Kids Walk into a Bank (which we have another episode on) and now the upcoming What's the Furthest Place From Here? with the same writer. Dead Dog's Bite is Tyler's 4 issue series where he did all the writing, art, lettering. and etc. so we get a really interesting look into how this small town missing persons mystery came to be!
