Nico and TK (plus of course Producer Kevo) take a look at the newest launch of Hellverine under Ben Percy, who has otherwise departed the Wolverine and Ghost Rider titles he previously ran the show on. To start, this episode will air just a few days before Ultimates #1 comes out, how excited are you to see fan reactions? Can you talk a little bit about how you snagged the writing gig for Ultimates? By all accounts this seems like the most important book as far as worldbuilding is concerned. With a few scripts under your belt, is there a specific Ultimate/Avenger you enjoy writing the most? Were you a fan of the original Ultimates and the line at the time? The FCBD story you wrote gives us a lot of hints as to the whereabouts of heroes, I was curious, how much of those required Wil Moss to check as far as green lighting things, or do you have full reign to erase or delete a character from this timeline?Pie in the sky, is there a character that floats to the top you're excited to dig into, and if it's a spoiler, can you give a hint as to who they might be? 19:0020:26Juan Frigeri is no slouch when it comes to big superhero action, was there a panel or page he blew you away with, so far?I was a big fan of your Children of the Vault miniseries, which frankly had some mind bending ideas at work. Did writing that help you gear up for Ultimates in any way?Does the Ultimate Universe office have a slack going? Are you all digging into each others scripts and keeping tabs?At this point 20th Century Men is iconic in a lot of ways, for fans of Ultimates, why should they check it out?

To start, Cemetery Kids Don't Die is out February 20th, blending a 21st century future, with a gaming system called Dreamwave. Big Books and Bold Ideas is usually the show where readers meet writers. But for this final show of 2022, we decided to do something unexpected. Instead of talking to writers about books they wrote, we asked them about their favorite literary characters someone else wrote. It's an assignment these Minnesota authors took seriously, and their selections both surprised and delighted host Kerri Miller. She also asked each author to recommend their favorite book of 2022, so get your “need to read” list ready! Guests: Peter Geye writes and lives in Minneapolis and is the author of many books. His latest novel is “The Ski Jumpers.” Shannon Gibney is a writer and a professor of English at Minneapolis College. Her books include the novel, “Dream Country” and the upcoming memoir-inspired novel, “The Girl I Am, Was, and Never Will Be.” Ben Percy is a novelist and screenwriter based in Northfield, Minn. His novels include “The Unfamiliar Garden” and a collection of stories titled, “Suicide Woods.” He also writes for Marvel Comics. Establishing your setting and time period from the get-go of your writing process is vital in creating a memorable book, real tension, dynamic characters, and a more complex reading experience. Writers Hesse Phillips and Louise Berliner help us figure out how to do it.Hesse Phillips (she/they) was born next-door to a chicken farm in Western PA but now lives in Spain. Their Novel Incubator project Lightborne, about the mysterious death of queer Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe, was a finalist in the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair 2022 and is now out on submission. Their poetry and prose have appeared in The Bridport Review, the epoque (pronounced “epoch”) press e-zine, Embark: A Literary Journal for Novelists, and is forthcoming in Emerge Literary Journal, The Hyacinth Review, and other publications. They have a PhD in Drama from Tufts University and are obsessed with all things relating to sixteenth and early seventeenth century English theatre and its intersections with religion, gender, sexuality, and politics.Another lucky Novel Incubator grad, Louise Berliner's work has appeared in VQR, Porter Gulch Review, Ibbetson Review, The Mom Egg, Sacred Fire and various chapbook collections. Her first book, Texas Guinan GuyNan, Queen of the Night Clubs, written in part thanks to an NEH grant, is a biography of a Roaring ‘20s night club hostess famous for saying “Hello, Suckers!” Her middle grade novel, Houdini's Elephant, is with her agent and she's currently working on an adult literary novel with a magical realism kick. Her work is heavily influenced by New York City and the 20th century, as well as the ghosts of her matrilineage. Also discussed: Ben Percy's chapter “Activating Setting” in his craft book Thrill Me. X-Force continues to be the unsung flagship book of the Dawn of X era, with Benjamin Percy's sophomore collection!  The stories being told might not be to everybody's liking, however, I don't think anybody can argue that stuff actually HAPPENS in this book... which immediately puts it head and shoulders over most of the X-Offerings in late 2019/early 2020! This time out, we get into some deep (and potentially problematic) discussion on the topic of suicide in the age of resurrection!  Are we more than a collection of our experiences... and, if not -- is it okay to jettison some of those more troublesome experiences to make your next "go round" more productive? Also - This IS a Ben Percy book, so we've got plenty of Russians and INFO PAGE abuse! All 'at and all my usual nonsense - I hope you decide to gimme a shot! -- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/xlapsed X-Lapsed Voicemail: 623-396-5375 (or, 623-396-JERK) Twitter: @acecomics / Instagram: @90sxmen weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisandreggie.podbean.com The All-New, All-Different chrisisoninfiniteearths.com facebook.com/groups/90sxmen

In this podcast, we're marking Halloween by revisiting interviews with authors who have created work that focus on monsters. We hit all the major horror figures with NEA literature fellow Ben Percy (werewolves), Max Brooks (zombies and vampires) and Kiersten White (the Frankenstein monster). All of the writers are entranced by the creatures they explore—but they also find them oddly safe, non-polemical images that inflame the imagination and  lend themselves to explorations of anxiety, stratification, privilege, sexism and yes, pandemics.
