Mamelodi Sundowns had a league bye this weekend, but that didn't stop them from winning yet another DStv Premiership League title. Sundowns were playing in the CAF Champions League, but were relying on Chippa United to prevent SuperSport United from beating them. The Chilli Boys are 'owed one' by Sundowns, as they held Supersport to a draw. This is Sundowns' 13th title overall and it is very evident that they are the dominant force in South Africa. Many fans have questioned the legitimacy of Sundown's business antics and cries for the PSL to introduce a form of financial fair play ruling system are still being unheard. Sundowns' dominance poses the burning question; Is the PSL becoming a boring league? Stellenbosch Fc was reduced to 10 men against Kaizer Chiefs in the 16th minute when goalie Sage Shane Stephens handled the ball outside the box. Not too long after this red card, Kaizer Chiefs were awarded a penalty which Keegan Dolly calmly put away. The Glamour boys emerged victorious but to the utter disgust of Stellies coach Steve Barker. Barker went on to criticise the officiating after this match as he questioned Chiefs' red card and penalty record. On the latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show. Mzansi has reacted to Mamelodi Sundowns winning their 6th consecutive DStv Premiership after Supersport United failed to Beat Chippa. Mzansi also has a say on Kaizer Chiefs' victory over Stellenbosch FC where coach Steve Barker criticised the officials for their poor decisions! SL Radio on SoccerLaduma.co.za

Jeremy Short sits down with Brad Goodall on this week's episode of the Whizzbang Podcast. Original recipe singer-songwriter and genre-bending guitar blazer, Kentucky native Jeremy Short, has quickly risen to the top shelf of must-hear players on the scene. GIven an Gibson SG, by his grandfather – a well known Methodist preacher, Short recalls with a laugh, “he handed it to me and said – let's not make this a full time thing”. First making a name for himself as the solo-ripping sideman of the red-hot Americana act, “Sasha Colette & The Magnolias”, then front man and lead guitarist of the horn-fueled R&B band “Downtown King”. Now he has found his home and what he calls “his own thing” in Short & Company. Leaving his soul on the floor, and yours in shreds, “Ain't That Workin”, “Bartender” and “Set in Her Ways” show why Short is a 2 Time Semi-finalist, and 2019 competitor at the International Blues Challenge, a competition featuring the best blues acts from around the globe. But blues aren't his only groove. One spin of Lost in A Spin, released March 2018, and Short will have you eating from the palm of his hand. With dance club ready R&B hits like “Shake It Off”, “You & Me”, and lead single “If The Spirit Moves You”, Short encourages you to forget the stresses of the 9-5 chaos, and get lost in his music. “Sometimes, you just gotta dance to get it out. So if you feel like dancing, dance. If you feel like singing along, do it. Do what feels right.” Gearing down and getting candid about life in coal country with “This Mountain”(written with former Sasha & The Mags members, Sasha Colette and Steve Barker), “Fast Eddie”- the story of a good guy who can't kick his habit and get his life together, “Barefoot Beauty”, a ballad about a “heart of gold that loves to sin”, and the gut-wrenching closer and only acoustic track, “Mountains of the Like”, Short manages to deliver an entire album of raw, untailored glimpses into life in small town Appalachia. Touching on the throes of addiction, his shameless love of a strong willed woman, and his need to escape and hit the road, Short is unafraid to share both where he's coming from and what exactly he is hoping to accomplish. Having already notched his belt with festivals like Bonnaroo, Mountain Music Festival, FestivALL, Kickin It On The Creek, & Whispering Beard, as well as direct support for the likes of Taj Mahal, Robert Cray, Marcus King Band, & Rev Peyton & The Big Damn Band, the future is looking bright for both Short — and his Company. NIGHT SHADOWS OVER SANDY CREEK: SOUTHWEST TEXAS RANCHERS by Jerry Snodgrass At forty-four years old, Steve Barker—a former Army Ranger, professional rodeo roper, steer wrestler, and oilfield roughneck—turns to owning and operating a cattle and horse ranch in Southwest Texas. He is driven by his love of the cowboy life to find peace after his wife and little girl were tragically killed in an automobile accident. His Sandy Creek Ranch, located near the small town of Red Mesa, Texas, is overrun by illegal immigrants coming across the border from Mexico. They destroy his fences, break into his ranch house, and threaten his ranch hands. Steve meets bank vice-president, Jada Tobin, a beautiful blonde-haired widow who owns property across Sandy Creek. Steve and Jada eventually fall in love, and together, along with neighbor ranchers, fight the drug and human smugglers who threaten their livelihood as ranchers. JERRY SNODGRASS was born in Butler, Missouri, in 1938. He was raised and went to school in Indianola, Iowa. He entered the military after graduating from high school in 1957. He successfully fulfilled his dreams of serving in the military and federal service traveling to worldwide exotic locations for over fifty years. Jerry is a Vietnam Veteran and is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. His passion for romance, mystery, and suspense and the lives of the American cowboy-inspired him to write NIGHT SHADOWS OVER SANDY CREEK. Jerry lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife Rosemary and their little Yorkie, Stormy. https://www.amazon.com/NIGHT-SHADOWS-OVER-SANDY-CREEK-ebook/dp/B075FG1YJ2 http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/jersnodgrass.mp3

A quasi-ruined surprise guest and founder Steve pops over. Vandalism and defacing property (not cool brah). Homeowner duties and learning skills. Steve has a low-key announcement that nobody knew. Having a wedding. Brittany's pageant career and judgments. The elastic/rubber band patented work discussion. Toilet paper ply. Kevin Costner: buying or selling? Still having a DVD collection. Brittany's classic move of wrecking a surprise. Thanks 2019, onto 2020... Twitter: @BatsBelfry Email: batsbelfrypodcast@gmail.com Recorded - 12/17/19

David Blakely is a prolific playwright with performances of his works in various locations around the country at any one time. Most recently, David's been in rehearsal at HTC for his one act, “Four Ways to Die”. The play is based on Dennis McAuliffe’s 1990 nonfiction, “The Deaths of Sybil Bolton”. “Four Ways to Die” follows a journalist uncovering what exactly happened to his grandmother during the systematic reign of terror that killed dozens of Osage people in the 1920s. The play features Steve Barker from Episode 17. The play can be seen at the Tulsa Nightingale Theatre April 6 & 7, and April 13 & 14, 2018 at 7:30pm. For information on this and other original works of storytelling, as well as the Second Sunday Serials, visit HellerTheatreCo.com. We discussed David’s work, “For Your Examination” in which he and his co-writer, Anna Hudson, gathered monologues from homeless Oklahomans. We also talked about Francis Ford Coppola, Samuel Beckett, PDQ Bach, and "Oh! Calcutta!" In addition, we mentioned Ernie Kovaks, and Saturday Night Live. And we talked about language including the use of American Sign Language in theatre. We also discussed Will Inman’s play, "The Lesbian Exhibit". Storytelling was at the heart of our conversation. If you listen to the podcast, be sure and listen until the end of the interview for Concise Advice from the Interview, and Words of Wisdom from George. We do a rare Friday show which allowed us to have show co-founder and friend Steve on. We talk about cutting down on booze. The pre-show nightmare that was trying to get a computer started. Brittany listens to old shows. We go to $1 taco night, except Brittany. Steve's nacho placement philosophy. The blinds fall. We get into a deep conversation about the nature of the government, politics, the future and existence itself. We finally reach and cover the Six Feet Under finale. Briiiine eats McDonald's. Different types of humor. Does Steve poo-poo crude humor? Living your life in fear. The nonsense that is inane celebrity gossip. The applicability and genius that is Rod Serling and the Twilight Zone. Taking back words, can it be done? Keep on flying... Twitter: @BatsBelfry Email: batsbelfrypodcast@gmail.com Recorded - 2/23/18

Facebook Twitter Instagram The Outdoor Biz Podcast Please give us a rating and review HERE Show Notes Tim tells us how he got hooked on the Outdoors and Adventure Travel and has some good career advice for those wanting to start and Outdoor or Adventure Travel career. First Exposure to the Outdoors I think you know I took a much different path than most. I literally had never backpacked, camped or spent a night outdoors in my life until I was 21 years old. I happened to be a senior at San Diego State and most of my time had been working on a business degree. I was, I think they called us yuppies back then, working towards a successful career and you know probably selling copiers or fax machines. I also happened to be on the soccer team and played soccer for SDSU for a few years. In order to to get my degree I need to take a couple of college electives. I remember trying to find an elective that was you know easy and fun and help my grade point average a bit. So I came across a class that kind of puzzled me, it was called wilderness and the outdoor experience. So I had no idea what that meant but it sounded easy and fun so I signed up for it. I remember going the first day and it was held in a large auditorium type room of about about 400 seats. I made sure to sit well towards the back so if if I wanted to get out of there I could. As I sat and watched our professor walked into the room, walked down the aisle and a small little dog followed him. It was happened to be a guy I think a lot of your listeners might know, professor Jeff Salz. He proceeded to tell a story about a trip that he and a friend and I think one other person had taken down to Patagonia to attempt an unclimbed route on Mt. Fitzroy. Again this is all brand new to me. He's showing slides of their snow cave they lived in for weeks. Now I hadn't been to a national park or anything I mean nothing. My dad was military US Air Force lived in England for a long time. I understood the family goes to a national park that's not even I don't know what we did, not digging my parents at all but just sort of the circumstance of the time and our family. So I'm now in this class watching Jeff tell this amazing story of just horrible conditions and this attempted climb and on the descent his best friend actually dies! I'm watching this going I want to do that, not die bit it was just so fascinating to me. So I was immediately absorbed and part of the class in order to get your grade you had to go on outing and write a journal about it. So again I'm watching these slideshows from various presenters and so ignorant. My very first outing, first time outdoors by myself I took a Greyhound bus, I think it was because my car wasn't running at the time, from San Diego to Lone Pine and and climbed Mount Whitney. I want to say it was it was probably August or early September. I didn't have any real issues, I was in pretty good shape. Well that's yeah so that sort of, that tees up the the next part of the story which is I had to rent the gear . So I looked around, in those days you looked in a phonebook you couldn't couldn't google it, but I looked in a phone book and found out about a store not too far from San Diego State called Adventure 16. I'll never forget that day, you know driving down and walking into the store. It was almost like a Wizard of Oz moment where you just walk inside this kind of nondescript building and all of a sudden there's a cabin in front of me, I'm listening to bird tapes and crickets and the smells of pine trees. There's an old dog and they've got campfire memories burning and I'm like oh my gosh this is amazing so that was my first exposure to the outdoors. Welcome to episode 50. WOW five oh. Feels like I launched The Outdoor Biz Podcast just the other day. This episode is with Steve Barker founder of Eagle Creek, recent leader of the Outdoor Industry Association and serial conservationist. Steve and I have been friends for a long time and we cover a lot in this wide ranging conversation from Eagle Creek, his non-profit work and much more. Facebook Twitter Instagram The Outdoor Biz Podcast Please give us a rating and review HERE Show Notes This episode is with Steve Barker founder of Eagle Creek, recent leader of the Outdoor Industry Association and serial conservationist. Steve and I have been friends for a long time and we cover a lot in this wide ranging conversation from Eagle Creek, his non-profit work and much more. First Exposure to the Outdoors I grew up in Oyster Bay New York as a kid of the generation where my parents every morning told me not to come back until dinner. I grew up in a little town and started exploring things in my backyard. My mom was real sick when I young so spent a lot of time in the hospital so I had a lot of time on my own and found the outdoors as place that I could go and just spend endless hours turning over rocks, going fishing, hiking different paths. You know it's interesting I talk about being from New York area people think you're from the city but Oyster Bay was actually pretty rural. We had lots of trails and hiking and eventually I scored a job when I was 11 or 12 mowing the lawn at Sagamore Hill which was Teddy Roosevelt's family home. Boy that was certainly inspiring, I got to go in the house and it was like a museum of exploration, certainly was very inspiring. Things we talked about Fredericks Skiing and Hiking Outward Bound Oregon State University Idyllwild Mountain People Nona Barker 2/10 net 30 Larry Harrison John Fagan Solana Beach Ricky Schlesinger Elfin Forest Escondido Creek Conservancy Conservation Alliance Outdoor Industry Association (ORCA) Sally McCoy Alaska Wilderness League Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Skip Yowell Future Leadership Academy Adventure Travel Trade Association Adventure Travel Conservation Fund Eastern Sierra Avalanche Roots Rated Advice, tips I was involved early with the Future Leaders Academy and and that was certainly one place where the industry said hey we're we're seeing a lot of the boomers are aging out of the industry we've got a lot of young people that are excited about getting in. Since companies are now more medium to large size companies we have siloed up our organizations and we have the what my daughter calls cubicle refugees out working for us that may not be looking at the broader picture because they end up in a marketing silo or a product silo sourcing silo and don't really see what's going on in sales or branding. So it's much harder to get a general education and even harder to figure out what kind of institutions to get involved in outside of work that could support your career. That was the genesis behind the Future Leaders Academy. So I guess it starts out with suggesting that people that are interested invest in yourself. I don't see where companies are spending near enough time developing employees, they're having a hard enough time just competing. So you've got to take that on yourself and have an equity mindset as far as what are you getting out of your job that will give you a long-term payback. What are you learning, are you actually getting equity. I think you can look at it as real equity. If you're not getting anything good, if you're not learning at your job find out where to learn it yourself. There's plenty of resources out there now. Start with an annual planning and goal setting process and figure out where you want to be in a couple years. Be honest about your self-assessment and say here's the things that I need to learn. Ideally that can be done with your supervisor or your boss but it's really on you to develop that plan. Then go get that knowledge, go get that experience. If you can't get it in your work go get it by volunteering. I have learned probably as much, maybe more volunteering with nonprofits, it's really broadened my experience and my knowledge from volunteer fire department to working in local conservation or working with groups that are getting kids outdoors. You have a lot to help them with, you'll always get more back volunteering than you give. So that's a suggestion look at the nonprofit area as a career as well, there's a lot of real and opportunity there, maybe more entrepreneurial opportunity in non-profit than there is in the profit community. If you're interested in product, though I think we probably have enough product, looking at how to add value in the supply chain or figure out how to continue the life of a product or a material. Reuse it, recycle it is a key area that if you're interested in a career in product well then make some product, learn something about the supply chain. Simply being able to draw something pretty in Illustrator, I don't think that brings anything new to the table these days and as I said, we've probably got enough product. So figure out how to either how to make a product and/or understand the supply chain. I also would say find mentors. Once you figure out here's where I want to be figure out who has the knowledge and can help you. It takes a little hutzpah but reach out to those people and ask them if they will talk to you, have a conversation over coffee and find your own mentors don't wait for them to find you. Then take some risks and fail. I think I talked early on about having a huge failure which I thought my life was ending when we failed at mountain people. It was extremely sad but I learned so much from that, Eagle Creek never would have happened if I hadn't failed at mountain people. So really embrace your failures. Then look around the industry be it the OIA, Conservation Alliance, Adventure Travel Conservation Fund, Camber, Sustainable Working Group, Adventure Travel Trade Association, every single one of those organizations has an opportunity for you to learn. Volunteer, get involved and meet your future mentors and understand more about the industry, the area of public land and sustainability. There's just so much more resource today for somebody in the industry than there was when we started and it's shame on you if you're waiting for somebody to come to you. We've laid it out, we've developed all these institutions for you. Everybody in my age group wants our industry to survive and thrive and we know that it's going to take switched-on young people to see this legacy continue so there's a lot of people waiting for you to show up.
