Dear Johnny, This year has been incredibly hard on our family. After battling health issues it feels like we're just sinking and can't stay afloat. My husband is working, but I had to step away from job due to health issues and I am waiting for disability/social security. In 2021 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. In 2022 I had Radioactive iodine ablation for Thyroid cancer. This year I have been dealing with a lot of symptoms that we thought were caused by a tumor on my kidney, turns out on Nov 14th I found out I have a brain tumor (Parafalcine meningioma). I am having trouble bathing myself, my body shakes constantly, weak, vision trouble, I walk with a cane and worry about falling down. I have my neurosurgeon appointment on Dec 16th to figure out my treatment process. My family is really struggling because of all of it. Our lights are behind, gas is behind and Internet has not been paid (we use for our son's school). I'm worried about rent for December. We have had to sell pretty much everything we own. We are out of body wash, Laundry soap, etc. My son, Levi, who is 9 and has autism. We are desperate for him to not know we are struggling so hard. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to read this letter and we hope next year is a little brighter for us. Send us a Text Message.Have you ever wondered how your last name might reveal fascinating details about your past? In this episode, we dive into the world of Italian surnames, exploring their origins and meanings, divided into four main categories. Discover how patronymics and matronymics, derived from the father's or mother's name, have deep roots in the Middle Ages. We analyze the differences between the "di" and "de" variants, with examples such as the famous singer Pino Daniele, and the role these surnames played in identifying people. We then move on to toponyms, those surnames that tell the geographical history of people. Imagine migrants of the past, identified by the name of their place of origin, such as "di Napoli" or "Sorrentino." We make an interesting comparison with common surnames in America such as Calabrese and Cosentino, highlighting the importance of geographical names in everyday life in the past. We also delve into the use of geographical names derived from local features, such as Fiume, and how these helped people identify themselves in an era without street names or house numbers. As we head into a new year, you might be looking for opportunities to uplevel your business, and one great way to do that is to attend networking events that will help you connect with other designers and vendors. I'm excited to share an event with Cosentino coming up in February, and Cosentino's Regional General Manager Scott Newhan and Account Manager Jason Shephard are joining me on this episode to give us all the details! Scott and Jason talk about the history of the C.Next event, what designers can expect when they attend, and highlights from the event's agenda. They also share with us their personal journeys into the design world, what makes Cosentino special (including their commitment to the environment and sustainability), and other opportunities to connect with the Cosentino business and brand. If you want to start 2024 off with some inspiration and a fresh networking opportunity, tune into this episode to see if this event is right for you!About Scott NewhanScott started his career a little over 30 years ago as a warehouse worker at Morena Tile on Morena Blvd. He worked hard and was able to work his way up through the ranks. In 2001, he started with Import Stone as an outside sales rep and worked his way up to GM of the San Diego location. In 2008, Cosentino bought Import Stone and he has been with Cosentino ever since. He ran the San Diego location until 2016, and was then promoted to the GM of the Anaheim HUB. He was able to grow the sales there and won GM of the year, commercials sales of the year, and many container sales contests. In June of 2023, he was promoted to Regional General Manager covering Anaheim/San Diego and Las Vegas. He has thoroughly enjoyed his over 15 years with Cosentino and plans to continue until retirement. For his hobbies, he enjoys off-roading in the desert. He is also an avid shooter, a landscape painter, and is now on his way to becoming a private pilot. About Jason ShephardJason first entered the construction industry as a freshman in high school working for his father's company in Illinois. His father owned and operated a countertop fabrication and installation company, and Jason worked in the shop, learning to fabricate and install countertops. Later he learned digital/laser templating, CAD drawings/layouts, and CNC programming/operating. He got married in 2006 and in 2013, moved back to his wife's hometown to be near her family in North County San Diego. He started his first sales job for a fabrication company in Escondido, where he learned in-home sales and worked with designers to bring their clients' kitchen and bath dreams to life. This introduced him to many San Diego designers. In early 2021, he made the move to Cosentino as part of the San Diego sales team. In this role, he represents the Cosentino brands–Silestone, Dekton, and Sensa granite–in the professional market. He works with and supplies architectural surfaces to designers, kitchen studios, fabricators, contractors, and other industry professionals for their clients and projects. Dear Johnny, My name is Christina. I'm a single mom of 4 great kids. In July of this year something didn't feel right and I felt a small lump on my left breast. I went in for a mammogram and doctors found 3 lumps. After scans and testing I was diagnosed with breast cancer and scheduled for a single mastectomy in September. After the surgery I started chemo in October (I have had 4 rounds, now have 12 left). With my surgery they removed 18 lymph nodes, 14 were cancerous. With surgery and treatments I have missed several weeks of work and it has been tough to make ends meet. For the last 6 years I have been a school bus driver and bus aid for a local school district and with my immune system compromised, it's hard to work and be around the kids. I have applied for disability and should have it right after the first of the year but I am late on December rent and I'm at a loss to how I'm going to make it. I owe $1427 with late fee. I never thought this could happen. Thank you for reading my letter. Please help if you can.Christina Who Helped: David Ball, Dan, Big E, Ron, Kristin, Ken, Clay, Cameron, Ken, Cosentino's How You Helped: 2 months rent, gift cards for Christmas for the kids and groceries

Keeping up with design trends is one thing but then you have to figure out the materials that you're suppposed to be using! Countertops is one of the selections I get asked most about. What should I use? What's the difference between quartz, quartzite, marble, granite, porcelain and this new product called Dekton? What's the most durable? Least maintenance? Joining us to answer these questions is Camila Castaneda with Cosentino. The Cosentino Group is a global, family-owned Spanish company that produces and distributes innovative, sustainable and high-value surfaces for the world of architecture and design. A visit to their beautiful showroom is a must before making your final countertop decision. 1315 W. Sam Houston Pkwy. Bethany Cosentino describes her new album as “a coming-of-age story about a 36-year-old woman reclaiming her life and what matters against the landscape of the world ending.” That last bit of that description is hard to miss and indeed climate anxiety figures heavily in the record but let's not look past the middle part of the description, the part with the reclaiming life and what matters. In this fun and insightful interview, Bethany talks about recently being diagnosed with ADHD just a few weeks ago and how it's helping her gain insight on many elements of her life. She also discusses the photo she keeps of herself as a young child, back when she was a child actor in commercials, and how it serves as a reminder that taking care of herself today means also taking care of that same kid.Bethany's new album, Natural Disaster, is out July 28, 2023. Seafood provides nearly 20% of the animal protein humans consume globally. This growing source of protein is also rather healthy with many of our nutrient-rich foods coming from aquatic creatures. But already, the supply of our wild capture seafood has flattened, meaning that the vast majority of our global fisheries today are being overfished in an unsustainable manner. Fortunately, Finless Foods and other sustainable seafood startups are working to bring sustainability-driven innovation to the seafood space. With both plant-based and cell-cultured options, consumers are finally beginning to experience the taste and value of seafood alternatives that are better for our oceans and their inhabitants as well as our climate. In this episode, Chad Reed talks with Finless Foods' chief strategy officer Shannon Consentino-Roush about the past, present and future of the sustainable seafood movement and industry.
