One of my most vivid memories as a DJ was the first Blkmarket Membership party I played in 2010. It was at a disused gym in lower Manhattan and managed to evade the notice of the authorities til the rapid approach of Sunday afternoon. Our guest this week, Taimur, ran those parties from 2006 until 2017, booking some of the world's biggest 'proper' DJs to play in incredible locations across NYC. He now resides in Miami, runs a record shop called T Bag, and runs a vinyl-only label called Blkmarket Music. This was a wide ranging discussion covering the state of the vinyl market in the US, and the underground scene more generally, as well as digging into Taimur's career as a promoter in New York - which was as eventful as it was unusual.  Recently, I had the opportunity to share an educational piece with a local networking group. It was a follow-up to a talk I did a few weeks prior on setting new habits that would transform their lives. It was 2 weeks later and I started out purposely finding out how accountable the members were to their new life-changing habits. The outcome was encouraging as over half had taken action. They were accountable and for a local group of successfully run companies, I was not surprised. These members knew I was doing a second talk 2 weeks later and perceived that I may ask the accountability question. They were prepared. I have done this same talk in other venues. The overwhelming #1 habit people want to change relates to their health. I observed a similar result. The groups that I returned to had over 50% implementation and accountability. The others had less than a 10% rate of implementation. Accountability is vital. Let's link this back to "Goal-Setting IV - The Accountability Roadmap" Only 17% set goals! 3% write them down and less than 1% have accountability around their goals. The success rates are as follows: 10x for goal-setters over non-goal-setters, 30x for written goals over non-goal-setters, and 100x for accountable to goals over non-goal-setters.  In the spirit of accountability, I'll share a short update from my life. I set several goals in "2 Rewards and 1 Consequence". Here are my stated October 31, 2022 goals:C3: Add 4 locations (to 20) or add $2,500/month revenue --> We added 2 locations at $1,925/month revenue and lost 1 small one totalling $200/month.C3: Add 2 Team Members (to 6) --> We added 2 Team Members and lost 1, so we have 5 total.Health: Do my 3x3 workouts weekly, be 90% gluten-free, complete a 10-day water-only fast, and sleep 8 hours per night to achieve 165 lbs, 20 chin-ups, half-mile treadmill at 9 mph, and 100 calories burned for 15 minutes at resistance 10 on the rowing machine --> I CRUSHED every one of these health goals!Teresa and I celebrated with a 3-day getaway to Amish Country as our reward! Now, we're going for the next 90-day goals sprint to secure our 2nd month-long family trip to Florida! What are you being held accountable to? The Smart Cleaning School has a great resource for you! This interview originally released on December 13, 2021. At the time  of our interview, I did not know that we would sponsor Damon's product the T-Bag. This was episode 11 of this podcast, originally published on November 14, 2019 which was a tough month for me. We had successfully built and sold an optimized solo cleaning company in Upstate New York and moved back home to Philadelphia after nearly 20 years away. I desperately wanted to have a career where I could work from home and enjoy my kids growing up. I made an assumption that I'd be able to build up our online business of courses, memberships, and the proceeds of this podcast while living off the sale revenue from our NY cleaning company. I had just returned from the Total Life Freedom Gatlinburg Retreat with a new direction. I told my mastermind and my wife that I would continue to build the online business. However, I promised them that I would get back into the trenches of solo cleaning and prove to whoever was listening to the podcast that I could do it again. I built one solo cleaning company over 15 years to $60,000 profit cleaning just 2 days per week without employees.  I vowed to do it again and set SMART goals of $20,000 revenue goals for the upcoming year of 2020. I even called this goal - Vision 20/20! We all know that 2020 turned out differently, but that didn't stop us! We accomplished every goal in 2020 and shared every detail in the first 100 episodes of this podcast.This November 2019 episode was very important as it taught a vital lesson in HOW I was able to raise prices and optimize a solo cleaning business so fast.  In "This Moment with Angela Brown", we relive her childhood and early adulthood through the lessons she learned along the way. It's so interesting to see how the traits that make her successful today were forced at various ages. In this episode, we conclude the interview with Angela Brown.  This portion of the conversation with Angela opens with a question on how she is able to take so much action. She says. "I call it Snag Success. You don't get success without the snags. A snag is the place where you don't know what do to next. I go as fast as I can to get to the next snag. Then I figure out how to get through the snag so I can run to the next one."We discussed overcoming fear. She said this. "It's about them, them, them, them, them. They don't care about me. They just want a solution. The fear is lessened when you can realize it's not about you. People just don't really care about you that much."Angela shares her early housecleaning business and how she was able to grow so fast. She applied everything she learned up until that point and even went back to community college. She grew across North and into South Carolina. Other cleaning companies found her and asked for help. She started flying to other cities on weekends to train cleaners around the country and 31 other countries. Her schedule was mind-blowing to build her local cleaning business and building her team during the week. Then she boarded a place to another location somewhere in the world to train other cleaning company owners. There are so many "coaches" in the cleaning industry. They achieve something and then say they are a coach. Angela has trained companies in 31 countries for years. She is a coach because of her experience and success. The reality is that few are true coaches and others are guides. Angela wraps up this episode with a touching story about helping a troubled teen. It lead her to sell her 25-year house cleaning business. She needed to work from home and saw the opportunity on the internet and YouTube. She wrote a book, "How to Start Your Own House Cleaning Company" and gave it away for free for a year. This bought her the time to take her years of training and move it online.  I was in a 4-person mastermind breakout group that I mentioned in "Confidence Creates Success", where we each helped the others grow the next level. One of the members was Matt Peet. We challenge each other in these Freedom Zones! I could tell that Matt wanted to grow and gain more clients. I could tell Matt wanted to hit some personal goals. But that's what I heard. He WANTED them. I said this. "Matt, I sense that you really want your goals to happen. That's awesome. Over my lifetime, I've only ever accomplished the goals that I needed to happen. Do you need these yet?" It was a question that got each of us to reflect, including me. Let me share what I mean. I spent years wanting to succeed in my own business on the side and never accomplished it. I spent years wanting to earn freedom and to travel around the country and never accomplished it. I spent years wanting to get out of debt and never accomplished it. I have wanted a lot of things. That is the problem. I have WANTED to accomplish these things. I didn't succeed in my own business until I NEEDED that business to succeed. That was the cleaning business after I got fired from GE in 2005. I had no choice. I needed cleaning to work otherwise my family was homeless. Air is a need. I need air or I'll die. I need water and food. I need to grow my relationships with my wife and kids. There was a point where I NEEDED to be out of debt so that we could have more money for things we wanted to do. That's when we turned up the heat on this need and accomplished it in July 2020. In 2021, I turned my want to take a month in Florida to a need to take my family for a life-changing month in Florida. We took immediate action on this NEED by renting the house and putting out $6,000 when our business was no where near ready for the trip. We got into alignment with the Lord and the work required to make this NEED happen. We did not rest until the goal was met. Need will always trumps want. How are you looking at your business whether it's a side hustle or full-time gig? Is it a want to succeed or a need to succeed?Matt Peet is doing great work and has the potential to be the videographer for dozens of conferences across the country. I believe that he'll get there.
