Lessons from Historical Disasters| episode 323 History is rich with lessons from disasters, showing us what it takes to endure the worst situations. Survivors of events like hurricanes, wars, and economic collapses often share common factors that contributed to their survival. Preparedness and Resource Management From the Great Depression to World War II, those who managed resources effectively often fared better. During the Great Depression, families with home gardens and stored food were better equipped to weather food shortages. Similarly, rationing during WWII ensured that essentials like sugar and fuel were stretched to meet needs. Adaptability and Ingenuity Survivors often adapted to their circumstances in creative ways. During the Dust Bowl, farmers implemented soil-saving techniques like crop rotation and contour plowing. After Hurricane Katrina, survivors repurposed household items, using coolers as flotation devices or water storage. Flexibility in the face of adversity is key. Community Support and Collaboration No one survives alone. In disasters like Hurricane Harvey, the “Cajun Navy” demonstrated how volunteer efforts save lives. During Canada's 1998 Ice Storm, neighbors shared resources, such as firewood and food, ensuring more people survived the harsh conditions. Knowledge and Skills Practical knowledge saves lives. Indigenous tribes in the Indian Ocean recognized the signs of a tsunami in 2004 and evacuated to higher ground. Similarly, during New York's 1977 blackout, people who knew how to safely use candles and manual tools were less vulnerable. Mental and Emotional Resilience Survivors often credit their mindset for their endurance. Holocaust survivors maintained hope and daily routines. The 33 Chilean miners trapped underground for 69 days stayed calm, organized roles, and rationed supplies to stay alive. Learning from these historical lessons helps modern preppers strengthen their readiness for any challenge. Are you prepared?

Please see the additional notes for ways you can help.   In this episode of Upzoned, co-hosts Abby Newsham and Chuck Marohn discuss managed retreat, where the federal government buys land from people to encourage them to move away from areas at high risk for natural disaster. According to the article, to actually move the necessary amount of people, the government needs to increase its efforts by a factor of 200. Chuck and Abby talk about the issues with this method of natural disaster management, as well as other common approaches like rebuilding disaster areas to be more fortified, and share their thoughts on alternative responses to natural disasters. The word "evil" gets misused. It truly speaks of those things that emanate from the Devil - yes - that entity. He works through people who are disloyal to the Creator. We've seen lawfare, assassination attempts, mass illegal migration, and subversion of our allies. Huge amounts of money are spend for anyone other than Americans. So when Hurricane Helene trashed North Carolina, the Feds have done everything in their power to block neighbors from helping neighbors in need.

Challenges in the Aftermath Hurricane Helene left many areas inaccessibly devastated, with washed-out roads and power outages complicating relief efforts. Helicopters and C-17 aircraft from FEMA have helped, but some communities remain unreachable except by mule. The Role of Mountain Mules The mules are invaluable for delivering essential supplies to remote mountain communities. Known for their ability to navigate challenging terrains, these "beasts of burden" mules are not only reliable but also carry a legacy of service. Community Requests for Assistance Despite limited communication, locals have been reaching out for help via social media, sharing their urgent needs. Requests for insulin and other medical supplies highlight the dire situations many families face. As there is no power either in these locations, locals are hiking to higher elevations in order to send assistance request messages. Collaborative Relief Efforts On-site in Montreat, North Carolina, the Mountain Mule Packer Ranch team coordinated with the Cajun Navy 2016, and are working tirelessly to deliver supplies to affected areas like Black Mountain, where flooding caused extensive damage. Heartwarming Stories of Hope These volunteers have made a significant impact, not just by delivering supplies but also by offering emotional support. One heartwarming incident involved helping a family whose home was lost, bringing them food, water, and even stuffed animals for their children. Continuing Support and Updates To facilitate ongoing relief, both the Mountain Mule Packer Ranch and Cajun Navy 2016 Facebook pages provide regular updates and ways to contribute including using the Venmo listed below.  Their resilience along with the affected communities shines through as they band together to support one another in these trying times. Travelers with more than one device face a tax of up to 19% of the device's value, capped at $4,000. The rule, which has been in place for years, is now being enforced more strictly. Some speculate this is to prevent resale or increase tax revenue from the influx of visitors. Unlike in the U.S., where no such limit exists, Mexican customs can confiscate extra devices if the tax is not paid. Travelers are advised to familiarize themselves with customs rules, as they also limit items like cameras and tobacco. While making international travel plans, always know and understand the local rules and customs regulations. Death toll has exceeded 100 and it is climbing.   Whole towns have been destroyed and many large cities have been crippled.   Interstate 40 and 26 have had road and bridge washouts. Side highways and other roadways have been destroyed and/or compromised.   Charitable organizations are mobilizing to bring much needed food, water and shelter as soon as they can.   What can you do? Stepping into the world of natural disasters and uplifting community spirit, we're joined by Todd Terrell, the heart and soul behind the United Cajun Navy. As we converse with Todd, we unravel the tapestry of this volunteer-driven powerhouse, born from the chaos of Hurricane Katrina and now a beacon of hope across the nation. Their journey from airboats to a widespread network of helping hands encapsulates not just the essence of rescue and recovery, but the unwavering human spirit that perseveres in the face of calamity. We dig into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to be on the front lines, from the invaluable role of former law enforcement and military volunteers to the intricacies of orchestrating a disaster response that goes beyond the mere supply of boats and chainsaws. With a twist of humor, we navigate the uncertainties of weather prediction, acknowledging the duality of its forgiving nature against the backdrop of critical safety measures in disaster scenarios. Our dialogue takes a deeper dive into the psyche of our efforts, touching on the emotional resonance of search and rescue missions, the toll it takes, and the policies that guide our compassion-driven work. It's not all heavy hearts and solemn duties; there's a lighter side too, as we reminisce on the joyous aspects of community resilience, from toy distributions to fostering joy amidst the holiday bustle. It's a conversation that not only shares the struggles and triumphs of the United Cajun Navy but also stitches together the fabric of community that holds strong even when the winds rage.To round off our expedition through challenge and camaraderie, we traverse the digital landscape and its effect on community outreach and the importance of traditional outdoor activities. As we wax nostalgic about the bygone days of outdoor childhood adventures, we confront the encroachment of technology on our lives and emphasize the need to anchor ourselves to the core values of our upbringing. And as we share a laugh over our own experiences of relentless schedules and the extreme exhaustion that follows, we circle back to the core of our discussion: the enduring gratitude for the unity and support that fuels our journey—a journey that, through organizations like the United Cajun Navy, proves that even in the toughest of times, we can navigate any storm together.GUEST WEBSITE: https://unitedcajunnavy.orgCHAPTERS:0:18United Cajun Navy6:51United Cajun Navy16:53Weather, Safety, and Natural Disasters23:54Search and Rescue Operations and Technology35:39Social Media's Impact on Community Outreach43:03Importance of Traditional Outdoors Activities47:44Nostalgia and Changing Times57:13Exhaustion From Nonstop ActivitySOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

The Regime Leader has been very quiet in regards to Governor Abbott. This letter penned yesterday by Governor Abbott is wonderful, almost like TKD penned it. He left no grey areas in this letter. It is white and black, he is not going to give in. There are officially 25 states showing support for Texas. That is 1/2 the union. 22m HEADLINE: ‘Pawn Stars' Celebrity Rick Harrison Blames Border Crisis For Son's Death by Tristan Justice  “The fentanyl crisis in this country must be taken more seriously,” Harrison told the Post. “It seems it is just flowing over the borders and nothing is being done about it. We must do better.” December set a new record for the number of migrant encounters in a single month, with more than 300,000 reported. According to the House Homeland Security Committee, on Biden's watch, there have been at least 1.7 million known “gotaways” who have dodged Border Patrol and gotten into the country, with even more coming in undetected. In fiscal year 2023, 169 individuals caught trying to cross illegally were on the terrorist watchlist. 29m Border Patrol & Texas National Guard If you receive an order that you believe to be unjust, you have the responsibility and duty to say “I will not cary out that order”.  Remember the Crimson Tide movie? CO and XO - Remember when Denzel's character was given an order and he refuses to do so? I wouldn't want to do that job at the border.  I commend those men and women for doing the job they are doing out there. They see the misery and despair and everything else that happens out there but there is a job to be done. Customs and Border Patrol agents have been ordered to storm the breech.  There is going to be a showdown, this is just getting started. Even Newsweeks cover is about Texit and ‘Can the Lone Star state go it alone'? What Texas needs now is the Cajun Navy. That Cajun Navy w/ their boats could patrol the crap out of the Rio Grande! 40m                   46m Articles of Confederation  The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo 1848 This treaty, signed on February 2, 1848, ended the war between the United States and Mexico. By its terms, Mexico ceded 55 percent of its territory, including the present-day states California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming. Mexico also relinquished all claims to Texas, and recognized the Rio Grande as the southern boundary with the United States. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which brought an official end to the Mexican-American War (1846-48), was signed on February 2, 1848, at Guadalupe Hidalgo, a city to which the Mexican government had fled with the advance of U.S. forces. ABBOTT LETTER  - The federal government has broken the compact b/w the United States and the States.  When you state something like this, you mean business.  Here is some American Constitution and Civics 101 -  It was a permanent agreement not a compact. So does Abbott really know what he is doing here? Understand that some of the Senators egging Lincoln on for Southern blood, despised the use of the term COMPACT.  Perpetual Union - means as long as both parties still agree, it perpetrates itself. So when Abbott says the federal government has broken the compact that means he is done with the COMPACT.

It's New Orleans: Out to Lunch

People who own their own sailboat sometimes describe sailing as, “Like standing in the shower ripping up money.” The point being, not only is a sailboat an expensive item to buy, but sailing is a prohibitively expensive hobby to take part in. Which is unfortunate because the earth's oceans, lakes, and breezes are accessible to everyone and, really, we all ought to be able to enjoy them. That's the guiding principle behind an organization called Community Sailing New Orleans. Community Sailing owns a fleet of 50 boats and uses them to give lessons and make sailing accessible to young people whose economic background would typically preclude them from even considering going sailing.  Community Sailing also has relationships with high school and college sailing clubs, and stages group outings and summer camps. The organization is based at Lake Pontchartrain. They have 3 full time employees, around 15 sailing coaches, and the Executive Director of the operation is Jacob Raymond. When you have a certain number of boats, their collective noun is no longer “fleet” but becomes “Navy.” Typically, a navy is a branch of a country's armed forces that is responsible for conducting military operations at sea. But, as is so often the case, it's different in Louisiana. Here, we have a navy that swings into action after a water-driven disaster. It's The Cajun Navy, a more-or-less ad-hoc collection of boat owners who band together to rescue people trapped by floodwaters. Beyond that waterborne force, there's an allied but separate civilian rescue and recovery force, called The Cajun Navy Ground Force. The founder and CEO of the Cajun Navy Ground Force is Rob Gaudet. The description "Ordinary people doing extraordinary things" refers to individuals who, despite not having any special advantages or resources, are able to achieve remarkable accomplishments through their hard work, perseverance, and dedication. These people are often motivated by a strong desire to make a positive impact on their communities, and are willing to take risks and overcome obstacles to achieve their goals. Famous examples include Mahatma Gandhi, who led India to independence through nonviolent resistance; and Rosa Parks, whose dignified defiance helped spark the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things are not always famous, or looking to be. But when we have an opportunity, it's nice to recognize them. Jacob Raymond and Rob Gaudet are definitely both in this category. Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at NOLA Pizza in the NOLA Brewing Taproom. This week we welcome John Schneider along with Tammy and Tonya! Best known for playing Bo Duke on the hit TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, John Schneider also maintained a parallel secondary career as a country singer for much of the '80s. Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, in 1960, Schneider grew up in Atlanta and started acting at the age of eight; he also learned guitar, and as a teenager he entertained at parties and other social events. He loved auto racing and briefly attempted to become a professional, and that experience helped him land his costarring role on The Dukes of Hazzard in 1979. Meanwhile, John recorded a country album called Now or Never for Scotti Brothers in 1981. It was a Top Ten hit on the country charts, and the single "It's Now or Never" made the Top Five on both the country and adult contemporary charts, just missing the pop Top Ten. The holiday album White Christmas followed, and John went on to sign with MCA, issuing five albums from 1984-1987. He scored four number one singles during that time: "I've Been Around Enough to Know" (1984), "Country Girls" (1985), and "What's a Memory Like You (Doing in a Love Like This)" and "You're the Last Thing I Needed Tonight" (both 1986). He also managed five other Top Ten hits, and one of his LPs, 1986's A Memory Like You, topped the country charts. John Schneider kept his acting career going with a variety of guest starring roles on television, plus a few films, and appeared in a couple of Dukes of Hazzard reunion projects. He returned to the spotlight in 2001, when he landed the role of Clark Kent's father on the popular WB series Smallville. From that point forward, Schneider worked regularly on film and television, including providing voices for animated series. He resumed his recording career in a low-key fashion in 2009 with the self-released John's Acoustic Christmas, which was followed by another holiday album in 2014: a collaboration with his Dukes of Hazzard costar Tom Wopat called Home for Christmas. Schneider signed with Maven Music in 2016, releasing Ruffled Skirts, which featured Cajun Navy as support, that year. In 2018, Schneider released Odyssey, an ambitious 52-song exploration of American roots music. You can find John on Facebook or visit his website: JohnSchneiderStudios.com Tammy & Tonya started singing in churches at a very young age along with their parents and three other siblings, Renee, Jamie and Laysa. Their father, Tommy Bilyeu, was a Southern Baptist minister in the Ozarks and The Bilyeu Family spread their ministry in song over the region for many years. Branson historians will
remember Tonya & Tammy's start in show business by performing with their family, the Baldknobbers, in the late 70's and early 80's. The duo also spent over a decade performing as the "Stutterettes" with Country Music legend, Mel Tillis. It's just not Sunday afternoon without the sweet harmonies and hand-clapping excitement of some good old Southern Gospel music! Ozarks Gospel combines great music with good clean laughter and family fun! Before the curtain closes, you'll find yourself singing along with this wonderful group as they lift spirits through song. New for 2021, Jamie Bilyeu joins his sister on stage to complete the Bilyeu Trio sound. Jamie is from Nixa MO, and is a Southern Baptist Minister, 32 years ordained. He currently serves as senior pastor of Riverdale Baptist Church, where he has pastored 10 years. From I'll Fly Away to Turn Your Radio On, this show is an uplifting, toe-tapping, feel good, take you to church experience. Then when the sun goes down, the fun is just beginning at Ozarks Country. Performing the classic country music of yesteryear and the best of today's hot country hits the Bilyeu sisters bring over 50 years of top-level show experience to the stage. The comedy of Droopy Drawers Jr, a/k/a Tim Mabe, keeps folks in their seats rolling while the hot band featuring Jim Garstang, Todd Brumley, Garrett Massengale, Trent Dugger, and Tim Prososki join with Tammy and Tonya to deliver the songs you're looking to hear...and feel. Mel Barber joins the cast with his amazing vocals. Mel is no stranger to the stage. His professional career has included performing with Worlds of Fun, Opryland USA and Silver Dollar City. Enjoy an evening with talented folks who love making the audience an extension of the show. Combining great music with wholesome comedy, this show is undeniably FUN!!!!
