On today's episode I am coming to you LIVE from San Diego Comic-Con with Disney animator and storyboard artist, Peter Paul Bautista! On today's episode I am coming to you LIVE from San Diego Comic-Con with Disney Animator and storyboard artist, Peter Paul Bautista! I was so excited to have Peter Paul join us for this year's SDCC show. When I was first introduced to Peter Paul from Mike and JB at From North to Wharf we hit it off immediately chatting via social media and I knew he would be a lot of fun to talk to on the show about the incredible animation career he's built working on some incredible movies and tv shows. I talked with Peter Paul about how he got his start in animation, losing a graphic design job at an engineering & oil company and stumbling into animation from there. Finding his first animation job as an inbetween artist on Space Jam, working on Clerks: The Animated Series and having no idea who Kevin Smith was, working on Mission Hill, finding his next job on The Tigger Movie, staring to work on movies and shows with Bento Box, such as the Bob's Burgers Movie and Krapopolis, and so much more! A huge Thank You to Peter Paul Bautista for taking the time to join us in San Diego for the show! It was so much fun getting to know Peter Paul during this episode. Also a Thank You to his friend Rachel who snapped some photos for us during the show. A big thank you to Mike and JB of From North to Wharf for helping connect me with Peter Paul. Please make sure to follow Peter Paul on all of the links below. Thank you to the staff at San Diego Comic-Con for always being so amazing to us. And especially Thank you to the Unofficial San Diego Comic-Con blog for the continual support and spreading the word about the show. We are always so grateful for you! Thank you everybody who came out and joined us for this show. Thank You, Peter Paul! Enjoy the episode.

This week on a shorter episode we bounce straight into The Tigger Movie from the year 2000. Maybe the world would have been a better place if Y2K stopped this movie from happening. Some may find it heartwarming...we had a slightly different read on this movie that should have stayed a straight to video or extended TV episode viewing only.
Tigger searches for his family but I have mine right here with my guests- my brother Karl and his girlfriend (now wife) Morgan!
We made it to the year 2000! Join us in our discussion about the Tigger Movie.

In 2017, many Americans watched in horror as violent images from the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville started spreading. A few short years later, My Monticello tells the story of Charlottesville neighbors fleeing racist violence and taking refuge in Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello. The author, Jocelyn Johnson, talks about what it means to be writing about a past and a future that both feel very present and whether there's hope in writing about America's racism. Later in the show: Famous for the fatwa put on him by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1989, Salman Rushdie is still writing years later--but now from the United States. Pennie Ticen discusses Rushdie's past and the new kind of writing he's publishing as an American immigrant. Plus: On the surface, The Tigger Movie and Anne of Green Gables don't have a lot in common. But if you look a bit closer, they both touch on an incredibly popular theme in stories for kids: adoption. Kim Gainer explores why kids are so obsessed with reading about adoption and how these stories help shape who we are.

In which gods become dogs and get stuck in their bods! We're discussing Dogsbody, by Diana Wynne Jones in all its celestial, dog-brained glory. Sirius the dog star is punished for a mysterious murder by being trapped in an earthly pup form - and his only way back to his galaxy is to find the enigmatic Zoi that he threw down to Earth. Leave it to DWJ to make this conceit at turns heartbreaking, hilarious and ultimately bittersweet. Madeleine maintains that for those similarly traumatized by The Tigger Movie, this is a tough read. Grace is too consumed by big dumb dog thoughts to ponder anything other than dumpster leftovers and the lure of the Wild Hunt. Join us!This episode was a listener request - thank you, quemmegalaxy! Today on the encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Jeff Sherman, son of Robert Sherman or one half of songwriting team - The Sherman Brothers. Don't think you know The Sherman Brothers? Actually, I'm positive you do. They wrote some of the greatest songs every recorded for film and television. Such as? How about “A Spoonful of Sugar?” from Mary Poppins? Or “It's A Small World” – perhaps the most played song on earth? Or maybe “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” from the same film? See, you know The Sherman Brothers. Along with his brother Richard, The Sherman Brothers wrote some of the most beloved songs of all-time. They scored films and write songs for films such as “Tom Sawyer,” “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” “The Jungle Book,” “Charlotte's Web,” “The Tigger Movie, “The Aristocats” and many more. Our conversation covered a lot of ground with the brothers as well as their father Al Sherman, also a songwriter as well as the career Jeff had in television on shows like “Boy Meets World” as well as his comedian & wife Wendy Liebman. So pull up a comfy chair, sit back and listen to your youth as we talk to Jeff Sherman for this week's encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.
Aljon Go and Dave Bossert share part one of their chat with Producer, Animator, Writer, and Artist, John Pomeroy. They also talk about the latest news surrounding Disney, new films, and animation. John Pomeroy is an animator who has worked for several major studios, including Walt Disney Animation Studios and Sullivan Bluth Studios. He has also worked as a producer and screenwriter on several animated feature films. Learn more about John Pomeroy at JohnPomeroy.com. He is known for his work on The Secret of NIMH (1982), All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989), and An American Tail (1986). John Pomeroy started work at Walt Disney Animation Studios in 1973 as a background artist and became a full animator in 1974 to work on Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too. While working at Disney, he met fellow animators Don Bluth and Gary Goldman and began working with them on an independent short film project, Banjo the Woodpile Cat. In 1979 he, Bluth, Goldman, and several other Disney animators left the studio to form the independent studio Don Bluth Productions (later to become Bluth Group), which produced the film The Secret of NIMH and the animation for laserdisc video games Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. The independent studio encountered financial difficulties and declared bankruptcy in 1984, but reformed soon after as Sullivan Bluth Studios and opened a major animation facility in Dublin, Ireland. Pomeroy remained at the Dublin studio to work as the directing animator and producer on An American Tail and The Land Before Time, before moving back to America in 1989 to form a new US wing of the company. After working with Sullivan Bluth for thirteen years, Pomeroy was convinced to return to Disney by Don Hahn to work as the supervising animator on John Smith for Pocahontas. While working at Disney, Pomeroy also provided animation for the films Fantasia 2000, The Tigger Movie, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and Treasure Planet. Pomeroy then left Disney once again in 2003 during the period where they briefly shut down their traditional animation department and subsequently started to do freelance work and was an animator for Curious George, and most recently, The Simpsons Movie, as well as Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz, Tom and Jerry: The Lost Dragon, Tom and Jerry: Spy Quest, Tom and Jerry: Back to Oz, Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Space Jam: A New Legacy. He is a talented sculptor, and creates busts that animated film artists use to visualize a 3-D model of their character. John Pomeroy is also a painter of historic events, and builder of historic weapons used in movies. He is currently on the elders board at a Village Christian School in Sun Valley, California. The brothers then penned both the screenplays and song scores for TOM SAWYER, HUCKLEBERRY FINN, THE MAGIC OF LASSIE, and THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE (the 1976 Royal Command film). In 2000, the Sherman Brothers returned to Disney to write the song score for the animated feature, THE TIGGER MOVIE. Many consider the closing of the famed Palace Theater in New York in 1932 as the final curtain for vaudeville. At that time Milt was only one year old. He became interested in the vaudeville era as a kid and loved talking to as many of the “old-timers” still around at the time. He was an aspiring comedy writer and was fascinated by the comedians of the past. He started collecting recordings of showbusiness personalities as a teenager. His hobby grew into a passion and his collection of thousands of vintage 78's and LP's is a treasure trove of variety history.Through his magical family he met and got to know famous people who were stars long before he was born. Working as a writer for Ralph Edwards TV Productions he was often called upon to keep subjects of his “This Is Your Life” TV show occupied while the production team set up their surprise for the subject. Edwards knew his young writer was enamored with the older stars and enjoyed talking to them. Thus Milt entertained legends like Buster Keaton, Stan Laurel, Ed Wynn, Mack Sennett, George Burns, Jack Benny and many others. While still in High School he worked as a record archivist for Eddie Cantor. Veteran stars Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Buddy Ebsen and Steve Allen often called upon Larsen for his consultation on songs and variety acts.He has always loved radio and his first job as a professional writer was with the ABC Radio network. It was a daytime audience participation show with variety acts and a 25-piece house orchestra. While still a teenager he was the weekly guest with radio personality Jim Hawthorne on a CBS radio program that featured milt's old records and commentary by CBS founder Andrew White. His weekend national radio shows recorded in his studio on the premises of the Magic Castle in Hollywood. His facilities house his huge record collection and his studio is designed specifically to play the old 78-RPM vintage recordings. His studio console turntables were originally installed at the NBC Radio City studios at Sunset and Vice in Hollywood. The shows are recorded using the newest state of the art MAC computer technology which includes to ability to clean up the snap, crackles and pops associated with the old records. The concept of the show is that younger generations have never heard samples of the great performers of the past. Like an old joke, if you never heard it before --- it's brand new with that in mind he leads you down the path to discovery. He introduces young people of today to a time of laughter and silly songs mixed in with some of the greatest music of all time. Oscar winning songwriter Richard M. Sherman (The Sherman Brothers – Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, It's a small World After All etc) is a guest on every show talking about the great songwriters of Tin Pan Alley. His other guest is a character known as Professor Hockmann, the world's oldest magician and vaudevillian who always plays just one of those really old acoustical records from Milt's collection.
