IN THIS PODCAST, WE PREPARE FOR THE UNEXPECTED.Kenny and Phil join forces with Tom Mison (Watchmen, Sleepy Hollow) to discuss Timothy Dalton's second, and final, outing as the iconic British super-spy James Bond.In an unprecedented veer away from the 007 formula, Bond denounces his license to kill and seeks revenge upon a South American drug dealer for the murder of his friend's wife. Although praised at the time for the action, and Dalton's performance, the film's dark and gritty tone left a bad taste in some reviewers mouths. Over 30 years later, we reflect on this dramatic shift, and discuss how it holds up as the character's legacy continues to evolve.Find Tom Mison at: tom-mison.comPodcast Like It's 1999: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/podcast-like-its-1999/id1316214754Twitter: twitter.com/podcastlike1999Instagram: instagram.com/podcastlike1999Reddit: reddit.com/r/podcastlikeits Hosted on Acast. Happy Wine Wednesday! It's the holiday season and shows are on hiatus, so it's the perfect time to discover new faves and take the occasional trip down memory lane to revisit past shows.  In the previous episode, Reverend Solomon Missouri and I discussed a new fave - The Bear.  This week, I'm switching gears and revisiting a show that had so much potential and then completely alienated its audience in an astonishing fashion - Sleepy Hollow.I'm joined this week by Stacey and Tamara to unpack our very complicated relationship with this series.  The discussion is broken out into two parts.  In part 1, we discuss the Sleepy Hollow pilot and revisit the magic of Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie on screen.  As always, the pilot discussion is spoiler free and limited to the events of the pilot only.  In part 2 of the discussion, we talk about the series as a whole and pull no punches.  We get into the terrible treatment of Abbie Mills as a character and Nicole Beharie as an actress.  We discuss the writers biggest crimes against the audience and the many, many times the show completely wasted the potential of its talented cast.  It was a long overdue, cathartic conversation about a show that went from being must see television to me  blocking most of the writers' room on social media after their poor responses to valid criticisms from the fans. Check the chapter markers to see where part 2 of the discussion begins (roughly around the 1:16:00 mark).Friendly reminder: we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a good time! You can find all of the links to support Stacey here.  You can find Tamara on Twitter here and IG here. And don't miss recent episodes on The Bear, House of the Dragon, She-Hulk,  and Shameless. Support the showFollow the pod on IG and Twitter. Phil and Kenny are joined by "Sleepy Hollow" star Tom Mison to discuss and dissect "Cruel Intentions."    "Cruel Intentions," if you're not familiar, is your classic story of Boy meets Girl. Girl happens to be his Step-Sister. Boy falls in love. Girl offers a quid-pro-quo. Boy destroys the reputation of Another Girl. In exchange, Boy get to have sex with Girl. During speculative sex, Boy is told he can put it wherever he wants. Girl, may I remind you, his Boy's Step-Sister. Girl kisses Another Other Girl, who's reputation Boy also has to destroy. Boy kinda maybe rapes Another Other Girl. Boy concurrently falls in love with Another Girl, while falling out of love with Girl, who, may I remind you, happens to be Boy's Step-Sister. In the process, Boy turns down the opportunity to put it anywhere in the Girl, who, may I remind you, just so happens to be Boy's Step-Sister. Boy breaks up with Another Girl precisely because he fell in love with her. Boy dies. Girl subsequently is exposed and humiliated by Another Girl, all set to "Bittersweet Symphony."    You know, that old chestnut.

Welcome to episode 2 of Adapted with Anna and Sam! You can find the cast list and other fun trivia on iMDB. Purchase the book and/or movie at Amazon or Barnes and Noble, or your favorite indie bookshop, or borrow from your local library in person or via Overdrive. Corrections Corner --Wikipedia was actually started in 2001, so would NOT have been available to the screenwriter in 1999. My bad. --Tom Mison, the Sleepy Hollow TV show's Ichabod Crane, was in Lost in Austen, which is not an technically an adaptation of a Jane Austen book though we do recommend a viewing (plus he was in an episode of Poirot!!). Honorable Mentions --Other Tim Burton movies (not ranked): Mars Attacks, Ed Wood, Beetlejuice, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman, Corpse Bride, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish, Big Eyes,  --Show we inadvertently spoil: Veronica Mars --Childhood memories: James and the Giant Peach, Ferngully and Hexxus --Movie Fandoms: Stars Wars (including Phantom Menace), Harry Potter --Guilty pleasures: High Spirits, Romancing the Stone --Actors not in Sleepy Hollow the movie: Jeff Goldblum (of course), Doug Jones, Clancy Brown Want to get in touch? We chat about Sleepy Hollow episode 8 “Heartless”. Abbie and Ichabod face another of Henry’s monsters, this time it’s a Succubus and she is after souls. But where are the souls going after she sucks them up.    Katrina is finally free, but Abbie and Ichabod are still trying to figure out how to move forward. This episode once again addressed the issue of love and trust between Katrina and Ichabod. Katrina feels she must fight for Henry and believes his actions are driven by the madness of Moloch while Abbie keeps reminding her that he is also the Horseman of War and has shown very little to earn any favor with our scooby gang.     We enjoyed most of this episode, but once again the cast was thin. None of the side characters appeared in this episode beyond Nick Hawley. No Jenny, Irving or Sheriff Reyes. It also had a frustrating ending that seemed to take a few steps backwards. Yet, this was still a fun episode with a lot of nice character work from Nicole Beharie, Tom Mison and Katia Winter

Another week, another episode! Stay tuned for an exciting anouncement at the end! First off Sarah teaches Abbey what an English school Mid-term. We deal with a little twitter feedback from episode 4. In our episode 5 recap we talk about: - We love Caroline, and really don't like how things turned out for her. - KATRINA MAGIC OMG ITS ACTUALLY A THING. - Neither of us like Hawley. Nothing has changed here. (Not Holly as previously thought by Sarah) - Our burning question of the week is how Abbie explained to the paramedics how she nearly drowned in a library? - Katrina's sins revealed. How much should Ichabod put up with. - What are Moloch's plans for Katrina? - Does our rift between the shows great two loves open up the door for a thing between Abraham and Katrina? - We still don't like Hawley, but we LOVE how Jenny treats him. You do your thing girl. - We have a very exciting announcement, we're looking for some GUEST HOSTS!

We're back everyone! Seasons 2 of Sleepy Hollow has officially started and Sarah and Abbey are back to discuss it with you! This episode Sarah gets very jealous of Abbie's screeners (she works for Screen Spy, so it's legit before you get any ideas!) not only did she see episode 1 before me, but she's also seen 2! We welcome back (almost) all our faves. Katrina finally gets a story line, even if it makes us VERY uncomfortable. Also, Abbie is a BAD ASS this episode, Jenny gets sh*t done and Ichabod is just brilliant. We're so happy to be back.

Coming back after the winter break Abbey and Sarah discuss the recently aired Episode 11 of FOX's Sleepy Hollow 'Vessel'. We delve deep into the ever complicating relationship between Jenny and Abbie after some very startling revelations about Jenny's past. We also gush about how impressed with Orlando Jones we were this episode. Actually, all the Irving family acted out of their skin this episode and it was really great to watch. Sarah also revels some slight inaccuracies about period clothing and why skinny jeans were probably Ichabods worst nightmare. We also chat about our predictions for the season 1 finale two-parter airing next Monday.
