In this episode of The Relaxed Male, we explore the concept of being offended and discuss strategies to stop taking offense. As the host, my mission is to assist men in overcoming various challenges they face in their lives and finding happiness. I express my gratitude towards a listener who sent equipment to improve the sound quality of the podcast and mention an upcoming coaching session where individuals can share their issues. We begin by defining being offended as feeling hurt or insulted due to a perceived wrong. I explain that being easily offended has become a prevalent issue in today's society, with people using offense as a weapon. I highlight the importance of teaching younger generations that disagreement and discourse are valuable and that being offended often stems from a victim mentality. Additionally, I discuss how societal avoidance of sensitive topics has contributed to the rise of easily being offended. To illustrate the subjectivity of perception, I reveal that I see the sky as blue due to the interaction between sunlight and nitrogen in the air. I detail how discussions and disagreements can be influenced by emotions and personal biases. Drawing from personal experiences, I explain how expressing controversial ideas on social media can provoke strong reactions. I share my belief that government assistance can create dependency and discourage financial independence, based on my own experience and observations. To overcome being easily offended, I emphasize the importance of understanding the root of our emotions and embracing emotional adulthood. Rather than becoming defensive or angry when faced with differing opinions, I advocate for having mature conversations grounded in facts. Active listening and seeking to understand others' perspectives are key to effective communication. I assert that having differing views is acceptable, as long as mutual respect is maintained. By choosing our emotional responses and exposing ourselves to diverse viewpoints, we can become less easily offended. Further in the podcast, I discuss the significance of becoming comfortable with discomfort and controlling our emotions. I assert that nobody truly cares about these issues except for those directly involved, and each person's purpose and perspective are unique. I encourage listeners to share the episode with others who may benefit from learning how to navigate being easily triggered or offended. To support the movement, I encourage sharing the podcast on social media platforms and spreading the message of creating a community of strong men dedicated to positive change. I express gratitude for the support and urge listeners to subscribe to the show to receive new episodes every Thursday. 00:00:00 The Art of Not Being Offended 00:00:57 Helping Men Overcome Suffering and Find Relaxation 00:02:37 Improved Sound Quality Thanks to a Listener's Gift 00:04:59 October 14th: Try Coaching and Get Coached 00:07:06 Why Being Offended is Out of Control 00:13:21 The Science Behind the Blue Sky 00:16:04 Controversial Views on Poverty and Government Assistance 00:23:29 Embracing Different Views in Relationships 00:26:39 Building Bridges and Exposing Yourself to Different Perspectives 00:29:35 The Importance of Individual Perspective and Letting Others Be 00:33:22 Uniting Strong Men to Change the World What is being offended? Joanna Scanlan is one of our great comic actors; she's best-known for “The Thick of It”, where she plays the obstructive civil servant Terri Coverley. But her range is much wider than comedy. She's extraordinarily moving in “After Love”, Aleem Khan's 2021 film about a widow who discovers her husband's secret life – a performance so powerful that it dominates the whole film, and won her BAFTA's lead actress award in 2022. Before that, she played Charles Dickens's long-suffering wife, Catherine, in “The Invisible Woman” – and appeared in “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and “Notes on a Scandal”, to name just a couple of her film roles. On television she's familiar from “The Larkins”, “No Offence” and “Puppy Love” – a series she co-wrote. She also co-wrote “Getting On”, a blackly comic portrayal of life on an NHS ward, which has become a great deal more topical in the fourteen years since it was first broadcast. Born in Merseyside, Joanna Scanlan grew up in North Wales; she went to Cambridge to study history and law, and only got her first job as an actress when she was thirty-four, after having a breakdown. She tells Michael about how that breakdown became a turning point, thanks to a doctor who told her that she would be ill all her life unless she acted. She remembers her schooldays in Wales, when she sang in a choir five times a day, and her early career working for the Arts Council, where the power-mad clock-watchers she worked with became the inspiration for the character of Terri Coverley. A Loftus Media production for BBC Radio 3 Produced by Elizabeth Burke
Today we discuss the concept of the term "No Offence", how to offend less, and how to be less offensive with feedback. And how to be brave enough in your art even if it causes offence!Artists and media mentioned: Emma Petitt: https://emmapetittart.com/Kathryn Hack: https://www.facebook.com/KathrynHackArtNaomi Jayne: https://www.instagram.com/naomi_jayne_artFlora Bowley: https://florabowley.com/ Key Takeaways1. If we try and preface our comments with; “I think and I feel” vs. no offense, we might come across as less offensive.2. Courage to potentially offend in your art, can open up doors for other people to discover more about their art, and themselves.3. Get yourself a team of cheerleaders. Your a-team, and be a cheerleader to a select few too.4. Cultivate spaces where you can speak freely and don't let people's offense overshadow the work you've done to be unfiltered.5. If you're worried about being offensive in your art, check: can you truly be satisfied with not painting what you want? Can you protect yourself from every “offended” person in the world?6. Is there an unconscious aspect inside you, offended and reluctant about what you want to paint.7. Don't seek out offense.Enjoyed the podcast? The Devil's scheme is to destroy, his strategy to divide and his tactic offence. This week, Ps Tony Rainbow concludes our series No Offence Taken encouraging us to not let the bitter outweigh the sweet. We need to make every effort to live in peace with one another.
Being right isn't all it's cracked up to be. This week, Ps Tony Rainbow continues our series 'No Offence Taken'. When we are too concerned with being right it can hurt and hinder others.
Being offended is inevitable, but living offended is a choice. This week, Ps Tony Rainbow encourages us to choose to lose when it comes to offence. We should prefer to lose than to hold onto anger and hurt!
We must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Why? Because human righteousness doesn't produce the righteousness that God desires. This week, Ps Tony Rainbow starts our new series ‘No Offence Taken'. We need to ask ourself the question, do we want to make a point or do we want to make a difference?

“If you're going through hell, keep going” and “comparison is the thief of joy” are some of the very empowering words from Ayeesha Ash in today's episode. Ayeesha is a proud Maori Grenadian woman, co-founder of her creative arts company Black Birds & has worked professionally as an actor for over 7 years! In our chat, Ayeesha shares how the capabilities as women of colour are often denied access to certain spaces to thrive in the same spheres as white people. Ayeesha responded to this lack of representation and gave other women of colour the opportunity to take control over their narratives by starting her own company, Black Birds. Throughout this ep, Ayeesha speaks about her passion for the arts industry and breaks down topics of tokenism, cultural appropriation and how we can all play a part in ensuring that Black Lives Matter isn't just a hashtag trending on social media. I'm forever grateful for Ayeesha's time and energy in breaking down these topics that have always been there, but have risen to the surface lately. Next steps? Let's continue to educate ourselves and put in the work. I highly recommend you listen to Ayeesha's podcast called ‘No Offence, But', which you can find here
