As many of you know, for the past ten years I have been a passionate advocate for what we dubbed, “The Pink Vaccine.“ This vaccine was developed at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio under the direction of Dr. Vincent Tuohy at the Learner Research Institute. For the past four years, I have been honored to serve as a patient advocate for the Phase I clinical trial for Dr. Tuohy's vaccine. It is with great pleasure and overwhelming excitement, that I can now announce and encourage patients to apply to participate in the Phase I clinical trial. Finally, this vaccine is transitioning from bench to bedside, and will be directed by Dr. Thomas Budd at the Taussig Cancer Center at the Cleveland Clinic. To participate in this trial, patients must meet the following criteria: Ø Diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer Ø Be Within three years of completing treatment Ø NED – confirmed by their oncologist in writing to be No Evidence of Disease Full details of the trial may be found on clinicaltrials.gov: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04674306?term=Cleveland+Clinic&cond=Triple+Negative+Breast+Cancer&cntry=US&state=US%3AOH&draw=2&rank=1 Those meeting the above criteria for participation may email: CancerAnswer@CCF.org For more information, you may also visit my website: http://www.Sisters4Prevention.com or email me at Sisters4Prevention@yahoo.com. I would like to thank everyone who donated or supported me in my advocacy efforts for this vaccine. You have always responded generously with your time and talent. Please know that this milestone in finding a cure for breast cancer by prevention would not have been possible without your love, efforts and support over the last ten years. Now friends the best is yet to come. We can finally test this vaccine and hope to Imagine a World Without Breast Cancer and realize that Prevention is the Cure. #PinkVaccine #PreventionIsTheCure #BreastCancerVaccine #PreventBreastCancer #PrimaryPrevention #StopBreastCancer #WorldWithoutBreastCancer Support the show
With its low rate of COVID-19 vaccinations, Australia is in the rare position of being able to continue vaccine trials on unvaccinated people. This is especially necessary because even vaccines with high efficacy, such as Pfizer and AstraZeneca, have no guarantee of remaining effective as the virus mutates. Today Cosmos journalist Ellen Phiddian talks to Adelaide's Dr Chris Rook, fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, who will be conducting a phase III clinical trial of a protein vaccine. But even though vaccine trials are necessary, it's still a long process from conception to approval. Having worked in biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing for the last decade, Andrew is no stranger to the type of studies that have been employed to test the recent surge of COVID-19 vaccines. After deciding to volunteer in one of these studies, Andrew filled out a survey expressing his interest and was contacted a few months later by a representative from AstraZeneca. On the day of his appointment at the pharmaceutical company, Andrew received a regular medical exam before being given the first shot of the study. The injection was either the active vaccine or a placebo and this knowledge will be withheld from Andrew until the completion of the study two years from now, or if he decides at any time to opt-out. The placebo is included in the study to discourage participants from altering their day to day behavior as they might if they knew for sure it was the actual vaccine they were receiving.Andrew states that he has not experienced any side effects other than the regular muscle ache usually present after a flu shot. Furthermore, the AstraZeneca vaccine was approved in the U.K. just this week and the first doses are set to be administered on Monday.RELATED EPISODEEPISODE 57 - Should I get the Covid Vaccine?

What is it like participating in one of the COVID-19 vaccine trials running right now? Many people want to know as the world rushes to educate themselves in what the expedited vaccine development process looks like. Richard Fisher wrote a piece for BBC about his participation in Oxford University's trial. The trial has ten thousand participants and is putting Oxford's vaccine against a common meningitis vaccine as the control. Why not use a placebo? Well, researchers wanted to ensure both groups receive common vaccination side effects. Richard will fill out a weekly questionnaire, take tonsil and nasal swabs, and report for periodic blood tests for the next year. He writes: “It's this necessary but long-term process that some people – many of them politicians – fail to understand about the coronavirus vaccine trials. You can't throw money at the problem and hope results happen faster. While the Oxford vaccine trial has already shown promising safety results, and the tantalising possibility of a protective immune response, it was only in 1,000 people. To roll out a vaccine to millions (or the whole world), you need a level of confidence that can only come with patience and more data.Public health officials will remember well the times that vaccine rollouts went wrong. In 1976, fears of a swine flu outbreak led the US government to accelerate vaccine development and inoculate tens of millions of Americans. The feared pandemic never arrived, but by some estimates, around 30 people died due to adverse vaccine reactions. Such mistakes may well have dented trust in public health advice and fuelled anti-vax fears too, which is the last thing you need in a pandemic.”Please be sure to like, subscribe, provide a five-star rating, and write a review. It's free to you and means the world to me. Thank you for listening, and I'll catch you tomorrow.
