In today's episode of The Curious Therapist Show, it's part 2 of how to set boundaries. I would suggest listening to part 1 if you haven't yet and then come back:)Boundaries are limits we set to protect our energy- emotional, mental, and physical. One of my fav quotes about boundaries is:"Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves even when we risk disappointing others" (Brene Brown)This really sums up why so many people struggle to set boundaries. Our fears of rejection, of "letting others down", the guilt we may feel saying "no", the fear of a missed opportunity, maybe even FOMO (fear of missing out). Perhaps there's complexities here too...family or cultural impacts where we we're taught to self-sacrifice and people please.A thought I had in preparing for this discussion was reflecting on the developmental stage where 2 or 3 years old ask "why!" 27 times an hour and they say "no" to every question. LOL. I think we need to channel some toddler energy here! We need to ask "why" we're doing something and say "no" more often. So join Brooke and I for part 2 today! On today's episode, I share all about emotions, how ignoring and suppressing them is making us sick, and what "making space" for emotions actually means. What I witness people do every day is push their emotions away, suppress them, judge them, label themselves as "low vibe" or dramatic or weak, try to avoid the emotion with fake positivity. Or they use some good ole distraction...grabbing the phone to doomscroll, overworking, overcommitting, or pretending to feel ok. Really what I see is people not FEELING their emotion, but rather thinking about the emotion and how to get it to go away.Cue a busy mind, rumination, and ineffective "problem solving"All of this keeps us stuck. It keeps the emotion stuck, the energy stuck in our bodies, and it robs us of the wisdom that our emotions can bring. After all, beneath every feeling is a NEED. One of my fav quotes sums it up perfectly:_“Beneath every behaviour is a feeling. And beneath each feeling is a need. And when we meet that need, rather than focus on the behaviour, we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom." ~Ashleigh Warner_⠀So this is what I'm teaching in this episode. How do we sit with the feeling and how do we honour the underlying need? Most of us weren't taught this growing up, so it's a skill set that needs practiced! One of my fav clips (along with so many other therapists) that I discuss in this episode is one from "Inside Out 2". Find out my thoughts on this scene and what it can teach us.I also share types of anger and that the research shows, when we suppress adaptive anger, it lowers our immunity. Talk about evidence of body-mind connection! To connect with Vanessa:Find Vanessa on Facebook: (2) FacebookFind Vanessa on Instagram: Vanessa Preston (@vanessa_preston_) • Instagram photos and videosCheck out Vanessa's website to find a freebie and all about her intuitive eating and body image programs: Vanessa Preston (podia.com)Or her practice website: http://www.greenlifepsychology.comDisclaimer:This podcast represents the opinions of Vanessa Preston and her guests to the show. In today's episode, we talk all about attachment theory and how our child selves learn to adapt to feel safe and loved. In this episode, I discuss:-attachment styles (and point out that they are over simplified on social media)-common ways we adapt to have our attachment needs met-how our childhood relationships can impact on our adult attachmentsThis is much deeper than love languages or "acts of service". Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with knowing how you and your partner feel loved. But attachment shapes what's underneath that. Do I feel lovable? Do I feel enough or too much? Do I push people away, become "too needy"? Do I start arguments instead of sharing my sadness? All of this is attachment related! Today's episode of the Curious Therapist Show is all about rumination.Rumination is when we think about negative things, worries, upsetting issues or problems over and over again. We can get stuck...like a hamster on a wheel! Most the time, rumination centres on past mistakes, current problems or future worries.I see this happening for people often at night. Their head hits the pillows and everything that's wrong comes barreling through their minds like an unwelcome parade. In this episode, I describe what rumination is, why we do it and ways to get unstuck.Reach Vanessa:To connect with Vanessa:Find Vanessa on Facebook: (2) FacebookFind Vanessa on Instagram: Vanessa Preston (@vanessa_preston_) • Instagram photos and videosCheck out Vanessa's website to find a freebie and all about her intuitive eating and body image programs: Vanessa Preston (podia.com)Or her practice website:Email Vanessa when requested topics or if you'd like to share your story on the podcast: vanessa@greenlifepsychology.comResources:Regulation:4-7-8 Calm Breathing Exercise | Relaxing Breath Technique | Extended Breaths | Pranayama Exercise (youtube.com)Box breathing relaxation technique: how to calm feelings of stress or anxiety (youtube.com)The Best 5-Senses Grounding Techniques for Anxiety Relief (psychcentral.com)Article referenced:Rumination: A Cycle of Negative Thinking Meditation Episodes:Episode 78Episode 79Disclaimer:This podcast represents the opinions of Vanessa Preston and her guests to the show. How can CEOs consistently hire top-tier sales talent? Kristie Jones, a sales leadership expert with over 20 years of experience, shares her strategies for attracting, hiring, and onboarding the best sales professionals in the latest episode of Sales Talk for CEOs. Kristie dives into the hiring process, the importance of structured onboarding, and ensuring long-term success for your sales team.Creating an Ideal Candidate ProfileKristie emphasizes creating an ideal candidate profile over a generic job description. “We need to start by building out an ideal candidate profile, just like we would build out an ideal customer profile,” Kristie explains. This involves analyzing the traits of past successful hires and defining the necessary skills and experience.Your Blueprint to Hiring Effectively:Kristie shares her approach to sourcing and screening candidates, ensuring a smooth and efficient hiring process:Effective Candidate Sourcing: Kristie promotes job postings on LinkedIn, uses paid LinkedIn ads, and leverages Slack channels. “I ask my client to post it on their company page on LinkedIn and promote it,” she says. This multi-channel strategy helps gather a substantial number of qualified applicants.Streamlined Screening Process: The initial screening process is critical to filter out unsuitable candidates. Kristie's assistant conducts phone screens to ask about compensation structure, contributions to past organizations, and reasons for leaving previous jobs. They each get a grade. “If they're a nine or ten, they move forward,” Kristie explains.Behavioral-Based Interviews and Assessments: Candidates undergo a formal interview and an assessment to validate their skills. “We do an assessment review,” Kristie says, involving the prospective manager in the process. This helps ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the role and the company culture. The Verbal Offer Before extending a written offer, Kristie makes a verbal offer and tells them that once the written offer is received it requires a decision within 24 hours. This ensures candidates are committed and ready to join the team promptly.Smooth Onboarding ProcessKristie highlights the importance of an effective onboarding process. “I stay on and support the first two weeks of the onboarding process,” she says. A structured onboarding plan is essential to ensure new hires receive the necessary support and start contributing quickly.Action Steps for CEOs:Develop an Ideal Candidate Profile: Define traits of your best sales performers to guide your hiring process.Leverage Multiple Sourcing Channels: Promote job openings widely to gather a substantial number of qualified applicants.Implement a Structured Screening Process: Use consistent, competency-based interviews and assessments to filter candidates.Ensure Effective Onboarding: Develop a detailed onboarding plan to support new hires and integrate them into the team quickly.Kristie Jones' insights provide a clear roadmap for CEOs and sales leaders looking to build a high-performing sales team. In this episode, I interview Ardelle Lee.Ardelle is a nutritionist, body image coach and intuitive eating coach…a dear friend of mine…and coming to us from Canada.Ardelle and I speak all about wellness culture and how this shows up for women especially during pregnancy and motherhood. If you're not sure what wellness culture means, have a listen!Think:The belief that to be a good person, you must pursue and achieve perfect health.Guilt and shame and food rules.Expensive supplements with little or NO evidence.Pressure to have a regulated nervous system 100 percent of the time.Having to do a perfect 21 step morning routine where you do yoga on a bed of kale, meditate, then have bone broth, then take 55 supplements.OrHaving a baby and thinking you've already failed because you're not breastfeeding or didn't have a vaginal birth or aren't feeding your baby 100 percent organic, homegrown baby food in a glass jar. While there's nothing wrong with pursuing health, if your pursuit of health is fuelled by anxiety, fear, shame, never feeling it's enough….wellness culture has infiltrated your belief system. To connect with Ardelle:Aromas & Avocados - Intuitive Eating and Body Image Coaching (aromasandavocados.com)

Send us a Text Message.Summer Quillen, my incredible friend and former law enforcement comrade, joins me in a heart-to-heart on the profound shift from maintaining peace on the streets to nurturing businesses and families. Our stories converge on the art of balancing multiple identities, the trials of motherhood, and the liberating leap into entrepreneurship, where we're now crafting our own narratives.Journey with us through the raw, emotional landscape of working mothers in high-stress careers. A coworker's struggle to serve her community amidst civil unrest, while also tending to her newborn, casts a stark light on the systemic challenges women in law enforcement face. It's a candid look at the pressures and expectations, and how personal adversities, symbolized by something as visceral as a lion tattoo, can forge unyielding strength. The transition from uniform to autonomy, from structured order to the freedom of self-employment, reveals joy and fulfillment found in our new ventures outside the force. The conversation takes a spirited turn as we explore the nimble world of a mobile notary, a role that seamlessly blends with the demands of motherhood. Engaging insights from the owner of Five Star Notary LLC highlight the vibrant tapestry of lives touched by this crucial service. We tackle the nitty-gritty of certifications, the dichotomy of juggling professional and family life, and the inspiring tales of women who navigate this landscape with grace. What emerges is an episode rich with personal transformation, a testament to the resilience of those who serve, and an ode to the enduring spirit of motherhood and entrepreneurship.Follow Summer on Social Media!Five Star Notary L.L.C. A woman discovers her dead brother-in-law come back to life as a bloody, skeletal form and honors a request to help rejuvenate his body in order to escape the demonic entities who are after him. Hellraiser is the final movie we are reviewing in Spooky Season and it is long overdue. The Clive Barker classic still holds up today as an excellent horror movie featuring great practical effects and creepy characters. This film provided viewers who were used to the likes of Jason, Michael, and Freddy with a completely different experience, showing that ultimate pleasure comes with a cost. I learned about Primal Sex through an episode of Adult Bedtime Stories with Lady Boy Gigi, Paul, and Damien. Primal Sex is a way to get in touch with one's animalistic side by trusting and being vulnerable with one's partner. It can involve biting, scratching, and other approved forms of play through negotiation and informed consent. Preparation for Primal Sex can include a ritual bath, mindful breathing, and being aware of any potential triggers. It's important to be mindful of safety and to check in with one's partner regularly. Primal Sex can be an exciting and intense experience that allows one to explore and learn new things about themselves."Primal play is all about getting in touch with your animalistic side, going off your instincts, and doing what comes naturally - it's about getting into the right headspace, being more aware of the present moment, and being fully present with yourself."Raven's Lair Free Webinar Training ProgramSign up Page:https://www.ravenslairleather.com/videosCheck out our new podcast website:https://www.podpage.com/adult-bedtime-stories/Links for the websites we discussed in the show include: https://www.ravenslairleather.comhttps://www.ladyboytemple.comhttps://ggwilbur.comPatreon Page at: https://www.patreon.com/LadyboyGigiEmail Ladyboy Gigi: admin@ggwilbur.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adult-bedtime-stories/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Malfunctions during the opening night at the Hell House haunted scare attraction at the Abaddon Hotel caused the death of 15 people and the crew. 5 years later, a documentary crew examines the staff's footage and revisits the site. Today's episode is formatted a bit differently... can you tell what's different? Shannon is skipping over journey updates and jumping straight into the interview this week! What did you think? Better? Worse? DM Shannon on Instagram and let her know! Today's interview is with John & Jaime Caponetta, 2 successful entrepreneurs who took their local dog walking business and turned it into a global success. John & Jaime share everything with the Journiers in today's episode, from entrepreneur life to human's & animal's mental health, to how we can prepare and be the best pet owners. Shannon asks all the questions that she can to be the best dog momma to her fur baby Hooch and learns the difference between traditional command based training and the new behavioral training that John & Jaime are introducing. The common question today is, well would you respond that way to a child? This week, Shannon has been extremely anxious and shares how she has noticed a difference in Hooch and how responsive he is being to her. The snuggles have been non-stop! John & Jaime explain exactly why that is happening and how to protect Hooch from the anxiety that is occurring. Some dogs actually can leach onto their owner's emotions. Dog's have incredible senses and not only can they sense human's when they are struggling with their mental health, but Jaime shares how her dogs have been during her pregnancy and how all mommies can prepare for that journey with their fur babies.
