Ruim 2 miljoen Nederlanders combineren een betaalde baan met mantelzorg voor een naaste. Door vergrijzing stijgt de zorgvraag, terwijl ontgroening het aantal beschikbare mensen om die zorg te verlenen juist verkleint. Dat legt druk op zowel de arbeidsmarkt als het zorgstelsel tegelijkertijd, omdat er steeds meer mantelzorg nodig is. De Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER) bracht donderdag 19 februari een advies uit aan de rijksoverheid over hoe werk en mantelzorg beter te combineren zijn. Naar schatting wordt 18% van alle werkgerelateerde uitval veroorzaakt door mantelzorgtaken. In deze aflevering van BNR Beter bespreekt presentator Nina van den Dungen het SER-advies met drie gasten: Ruben Houweling – hoogleraar Arbeidsrecht en kroonlid van de SER, voorzitter van de commissie die het advies schreef. Cécile Boot – hoogleraar Gezond Werken bij Amsterdam UMC, onderzoeker naar de effecten van mantelzorg op werkenden. Jeroen Vermeulen – oprichter en CEO van Zorggenoot, een platform dat mantelzorgers ondersteunt bij regelgeving en administratie via AI. De SER werkt in zijn advies langs twee sporen. Het eerste richt zich op het vergemakkelijken van de combinatie werk en mantelzorg. Centraal daarin staat een voorstel voor acht weken doorbetaald zorgverlof op 70 procent, vergelijkbaar met de WW en de ziektewet. Het tweede spoor richt zich op het beheersen van de groeiende vraag naar mantelzorg, via preventie en investering in de formele zorgsector. Houweling licht toe waarom de SER kiest voor collectieve financiering: mantelzorg is volgens de raad een maatschappelijk risico dat buiten de invloedssfeer van individuele werkgevers valt. Boot benadrukt de rol van cultuurverandering op de werkvloer. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat gesprekken over mantelzorg in 80% van de gevallen tot een praktische oplossing leiden, maar die gesprekken vinden nog weinig plaats. "Mijn droom is dat het geven van mantelzorg net zo normaal wordt als het krijgen van kinderen," zegt ze. Vermeulen wijst op een complicerende factor: een gemiddeld mantelzorgtraject duurt zeven jaar. Verlofweken bieden in veel gevallen tijdelijke verlichting, maar lossen het structurele probleem niet op. Een deel van de verklaring waarom bestaande regelingen zo weinig worden gebruikt, ligt volgens hem in de versnippering van het aanbod. "Als je de hulpvraag niet weet, stel je hem niet en raak je overbelast," zegt hij. Zijn platform Zorggenoot probeert als één loket die informatiekloof te dichten. In Mary DeForest Denny's 1921 diary, she wrote of a journey to France with a good friend, artist Clara Greenleaf Perry. It was a trip filled with experiences: dining, sight seeing, French language lessons, conversations with fellow artists, and most importantly, a visit to the Chateau of Lafayette--the "Hero of two worlds"-- America and France. In this episode you will get to hear some of Mary's entries (mostly to do with the time spent at the Chateau) and the important work being done there to care for children. Many of whom were orphaned during WW 1. We also tell you a bit about the Marquis de Lafayette and finally, an interview with Stephanie Dray, the best selling author of a novel entitled "The Women of Chateau Lafayette". I'm a wife of 49 years, mother of two adult children, andGrammy to two wonderful girls.  I've worked for my company for 45 years and look to retire in the next 2 years.  I love to walk, hike, travel, read and be as active and healthy as possible. I never had to worry about my weight until my early30's.  I was the skinny kid.  My dad always told me I had toothpick legs. I could eat anything and everything and never gain weight.  When I got married at 22, I weighed 122 lbs., the highest I'd ever been.  When I got pregnant with my daughter eight years later, I weighed 127 lbs.  I gained 22 lbs during my pregnancy and lost it quickly.  As I moved into my 30s, weight suddenly became an issue, and within about 5 years, I'd gotten up to 160 lbs.  I joined a Weight Watchers at-work group and got down to 125 lbs., but looked gaunt and unhealthy.  But, as is often the case, WW proved unsustainable.  And I got back up to where I was when I originally joined WW.  I then tried so many other "diets" and landed at around 140 lbs.  In 2021, I had a total knee replacement and gained 15 lbs. due to inactivity and comforteating.  I tried WW again, lost 5 lbs. and then the scale wouldn't budge any further.  My daughter had suggested IF, but the word "fasting" was frightening to me.  Finally, I was so desperate that I said I'd give it a try.  January 26, 2022, was the day I started IF, and I will never live my life any differently.  I lost the other 10 lbs. Lori Morton Biography As of this podcast, I'm 68 years old. I'm a daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and dog mom of two delightful Shih Tzus. My struggle with weight began in middle school. I grew up with the advent of fast food. When I was growing up, I tried to keep up with my brothers when it came to eating. Fast food, candy, and desserts were my downfall. After graduating from college, I accepted a position as a 5th-grade teacher. Teaching and careers in education are rewarding, but also stressful. There was always food in the teachers' lounge, or parents would send you treats. I responded to the stress of teaching by eating, and as a result,t my battle with weight grew over the years. I happily retired in 2015 from my last position as an elementary school principal. After retiring, I was determined to shed the weight I had gained over my 30 years in education. Losing close family members to Diabetes, Dementia, and Sarcoidosis has been the catalyst for my weight loss and fitness journey. My older brother, who had type 1 diabetes since the age of 13, died at the age of 52 from colon cancer. The death of my younger, seemingly fit and healthy 47-year-old sister was a wake-up call. Also, watching my mother slowly deteriorate from Alzheimer's disease added to my trauma. She died two years after my sister. To make sure I was there for my family and my sister's children in particular, I rejoined WW in 2016 and followed the program successfully for several years, but was frustrated that I couldn't get past a plateau that lasted about 1 ½ years. During that time ,I was yo-yoing up and down 10-15 pounds. From the beginning of the pandemic, in February 2020, to April 2021, I gained 35 pounds. That's when I decided to get back on track. After resetting, I lost only a few pounds before my weight plateaued again. I was worried that I had a problem with my metabolism. My frustration led me to research other ways to lose weight. I was of the opinion that if you do what you've always done, you will get what you've always gotten. While researching obesity and how to lose weight, I found information about intermittent fasting and Dr Jason Fung's book, The Obesity Code. Reading his book, I had many aha moments. Everything he described was my experience, so I decided to give IF a try, beginning in June 2021. I also searched for how to implement Intermittent Fasting to maximise my results. That's when I found and read Gin Stephen's book, Fast, Feast, Repeat. After that, I searched for fasting groups on Facebook and the Podcast app. That's when I found Graeme Currie's The Fasting Highway group, book, and podcast. I initially lost 59.5+ pounds (22.6 kg) through intermittent fasting. At the time, I thought I had mastered my struggles with obesity. My old nemesis, stress, reentered my life about three years ago with the unexpected death of my best friend, which was followed a few weeks later by the passing of my dog of 17 years. Once again, I used food to comfort myself. By far, 2025 was the most stressful year of my life. My dear 90-year-old father began exhibiting Dementia and was no longer able to live independently. My brother and I welcomed him into our homes on a rotating basis and were his primary caregivers. As a result, I regained almost all of the weight I lost. Caregiving was an honour and privilege, but it is one of the most stressful experiences one could face. Throughout these challenges, I kept resetting my fasting journey. Sometimes I was successful and sometimes not. I have learned a lot through my journey and am on the path to improving my health. Intermittent fasting works! I am of the mindset that I'm losing weight for the last time and will no longer comfort myself with food. When Abram left Haran, it was with a multitude of people and many goods. These had increased greatly during his sojourn in Egypt. The same things were true for his nephew, Lot, and contributed to the problem told us in the end of chapter 13. Nonetheless Abram had learnt a great lesson in trust; and as an acknowledgment of that we are told in verse 4, "he made an altar and called on the name of Yahweh" (a name with which the faithful were familiar - see Genesis 4verses25-26). The location of this altar was between Bethel (the house of God) and Ai (ruin). His choices would determine whether his life would be ruined, or whether he would dwell with God - this is likewise true for each one of us. The troublesome Canaanites and Perizzites then dominated the land. The multitude of cattle made finding pasture difficult and the large number of people meant arguments were very common. A dispute caused Abram to suggest that they go their separate ways. Abram graciously allowed Lot the choice; and Lot chose the choicest pastures. Lot's choice was influenced by "the lust of his eyes". Abram was contented with trusting in the LORD to provide. The record uses the same words from God to Abram as is used of Lot's viewpoint. What God promised Abram was real estate - the earth (Romans 4verses13) - not a reward in heaven. Jesus taught the same in the Lord's Prayer, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as in heaven" Matthew 6verses10. And as proof of what God had promised Abram; Abram was asked to walk on what he was to receive (see also Genesis 15verses18-21). Genesis 14 is an account of Abraham's rescue of his nephew Lot, who was takencaptive when a northern confederacy headed by Chedorlaomer - whose name signifies "a bundle of sheaves" - (the famous historical Hammurabi). The account is a literal event, but also symbolic of the nearing conflict of Armageddon, WW 3. Abram was "in fellowship " - confederate with two Amorites. The victor, Abram was offered rich rewards, which he spurned. The chapter's close sees the King-Priest of Jerusalem Melchizedek offering fellowship through bread and wine with God Almighty (see Hebrews chapters 5, 6 and 7; where the extended parable about the Lord Jesus Christ is explained).In Psalm 17 David seeks vindication from his Omnipotent Creator in whom David has sought and found protection in distress and constant care. David calls on Yahweh to rise and judge his enemies. But the greatest message from the Psalm is found in David's heartfelt hope, "As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with Thy likeness" ESV. The resurrection will bring the realisation of this hope (Philippians 3verses20-21; Colossians 3verses1-5.1 John 3verses1- 3).

In 2019, precious metals traders at JPM were convicted of manipulating the metals prices by “spoofing.” They would place fake orders, with no intention of taking delivery. JPM was FORCED to pay a fine of almost a billion dollars. That was the moment JPM was captured. And what has happened recently? Jamie Dimon just announced, that for the first time in its history, they have dumped their SILVER shorts and have gone long on SILVER. JPM is the largest holder of physical SILVER in the world at 750 million ounces. That is KEY. That 750 million ounces of SILVER are subject to Trump's Executive Order signed back in December of 2017, that was renewed each year of Biden's presidency. That's not a coincidence. I believe that 750 million ounces of SILVER are going to be the new U.S. Strategic SILVER Reserve. But here's what's interesting and indicates that JPM is now a tool in Trump's hand, taking down the global banking cabal. The SILVER and Gold prices are controlled by two entities. The big bullion banks associated with the LBMA (London Bullion Market Association), which sets the “spot” price of “physical SILVER” in London and the COMEX on Wall Street, that sets the “paper SILVER” price for futures trading. It's a massive derivative market used to manipulate the price, where the same physical SILVER is traded at hundreds of times its worth because most transactions NEVER demand delivery. It follows an executive order President Donald Trump signed in January calling for more water to flow to farmers, arguing the state was wasting the precious resource in the name of protecting endangered fish species. Begich’s resolution has passed the House of Representatives and the Senate and is headed to President Trump’s desk for signature. Alaska's congressional delegation on Thursday succeeded in stripping Biden-era protections from the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, moving to expand opportunities for drilling there. The U.S. Senate voted to eliminate the 2024 leasing program for the refuge that put much of the refuge's 1.6-million-acre coastal plain off-limits to potential drilling.  The vote does a lot more than just open the door for potential oil and gas activity.  This is another step in unlocking America’s treasure chest. My name is Dianne LeBlanc. I am 67 years old. And, living in Canada, I have been married to the same wonderful man for 48 years.  We have 2 adult children, ages 46 and 44, and 2 wonderful grandkids, ages 14 and 13. I did not have a weight problem growing up, but like many, after having my children, I started gaining weight.  I joined WW when I was around 30 years old and soon became a lifetime member.  The first time I joined I probably had 15 pounds to lose.  I gained it all back and more in no time and struggled, always.  I tried many different diets over the years, but none were sustainable. Fast forward to December 31st 2024, 2 months after my retirement, I was at my highest weight, probably close to 170, but I'm not sure, because I was no longer weighing.  I'm 5'1'' tall, and size 12 was too small.  I was very disappointed in myself and thought that I was just going to get bigger.
