Cup o' Joy- Landfill Workers Dig Through Trash to Find Woman's Lost Wedding Ring

New Jersey sanitation workers spent more than an hour sorting through garbage to recover a wedding ring and wallet a woman’s son accidentally threw out. The mother, Ruth Watson of Vineland temporarily placed the belongings in a trash bag while straightening up the house. Her 10-year-old son mistakenly took the Dollar General bag to the curb thinking it was trash. Watson did not realize what happened until the trash had already been picked up. “I can’t tell you how I felt,” Watson told NJ.com. “I had so much to do that day and I couldn’t do a thing. I just kept thinking I’ve got to get that ring back.” She immediately called the Atlantic County Utilities Authority and talked with Jovani Quiles, a landfill supervisor. “She sent me a picture of what the wallet looked like and said the ring was inside the wallet,” stated Quiles. They tracked down the truck which had already dumped Watson’s street’s trash at a landfill. Quiles gathered fellow sanitation workers Paul Deola, Ramon Nazario, and Alfredo Perez to help find the missing items. After around an hour and a half of searching, the men finally found Watson’s bag. “After about an hour-and-a-half we found it,” said Quiles. “Wallet, phone charger, some stuff she needed for the gym and her ring.” The ACUA gave appreciation it it’s employees in a Facebook post. “Thank you Alfredo, Jovani, Paul and Ramon for going above and beyond for a member of the community,” part of the post was captioned. Dr. Pratt-Clarke joins Howard Teibel on the show today and what starts as a discussion about the role of diversity and inclusion in the education environment turns quickly to our waning collective skill in truly engaging in difficult conversations — from our micro-conversations on social media to dialog among senior leadership.
