How many genders are there?  Is gender a real thing?  What's the difference between sex and gender?  We dive into Alice Dreger's work who highlights the core questions in the Transgender debate.  She does a great job showing that Biology does in fact have an Intersex category that shows up in 1.7% of the population (the same amount as those with red hair) and this may be the biological core of the dumbed down and highly politicized Transgender debate.  I don't pretend I have it all figured out but I find it imperative that we approach these topics with curiosity rather than preconceived notions. You are the most powerful technology.  Don't ever forget that.Watch Exclusive Content!https://www.benjosephstewart.com/plans-pricingJoin Our Kickass Discord Community!  https://discord.gg/7QadgxEK4zCheck Out Latest Documentaries -   “Awake In The Darkness” - https://www.aubreymarcus.com/"DMT QUEST" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My95s6ZryPgVisit https://www.BenJosephStewart.com/ to get more involved.Gaia Shows "Psychedelica" & "Limitless" with Free Trial.  https://www.gaia.com/invite/join?rfd=AGvFiE&utm_source=iafLike & Follow, Much Love -Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-1044023Minds:  https://www.minds.com/BenJosephStewart/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/BenJosephStewart/Twitter: https://twitter.com/BenJosephStewBitchute:  https://www.bitchute.com/channel/aanpGqOQt8ZX/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@benstewartofficialTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/benjosephstewart

This episode was made especially for anybody who might feel a sense of regret or anxiety about their medical transition. This does not mean they should necessarily detransition. Rather, it means that they are undergoing a reckoning with themselves. While some people choose to detransition, others are deeply ambivalent about transition but may feel they are “at a point of no return” and choose to remain in a trans identity. Others may find the detransition process too difficult and disappointing and decide to retransition. Sasha and Stella explore the blurry lines between terms like “transition” “detransition” and “transition regret” and hope to help listeners feel hopeful and find healing beyond these narrow concepts. Dr. Michael Bailey is an American https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychologist (psychologist), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioural_genetics (behavioral geneticist), and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor (professor) at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwestern_University (Northwestern University) best known for his work on the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiology (etiology), or origins, of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_orientation (sexual orientation). He maintains that sexual orientation is heavily influenced by biology and male https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality (homosexuality) is most likely inborn. Dr. Bailey's 2003 book, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Would_Be_Queen (The Man Who Would Be Queen), gave an accessible, intimate, and compassionate account of male sexuality, with a focus on gender-nonconforming boys, gay men, and male-to-female transsexuals. The book was nominated for an award, which was later retracted, from the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda_Literary_Foundation (Lambda Literary Foundation), an organization that promotes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_literature (gay literature). Aside from legitimate critiques of the book and Dr. Bailey's theories, attacks spilled into the realm of the egregious as a small group of radical transwomen viciously went after Mike, his reputation, and his family. All of this was documented thoroughly in Alice Dreger's book, Galileo's Middle finger, which ultimately exonerated Dr. Bailey of the accusations against him.   Today, Mike explains how he got interested in working with sexuality during a time when it was quite taboo in academia. After publishing research on male sexuality, Mike began encountering transexual women who wanted to talk about their experiences. He came to recognize that some MtF transsexuals were nothing like what he'd expected. He went on to study this further, write his book, and soon after, all hell broke loose. While Mike is certainly no contrarian, he unapologetically tells the truth and has committed himself to do his job well as a psychological researcher.   Links:   Download The Man Who Would Be Queen:  https://www.researchgate.net/publication/281747420_The_Man_Who_Would_Be_Queen (Researchgate.net/publication/281747420_The_Man_Who_Would_Be_Queen)   Christine Benevunuto: Sex Changes: A Memoir of Marriage, Gender, and Moving On https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0085UCVKY/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i0 (Amazon.com/gp/product/B0085UCVKY/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i0)   Alice Dreger (June 2008). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3170124 (“The controversy surrounding The Man Who Would Be Queen: a case history of the politics of science, identity, and sex in the Internet age”). Archives of Sexual Behavior. 37 (3): 366–421. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doi_(identifier) (doi):https://doi.org/10.1007%2Fs10508-007-9301-1 (10.1007/s10508-007-9301-1).   Ray Blanchard (1989). “The classification and labeling of nonhomosexual gender dysphorias”. Archives of Sexual Behavior. 18 (4): 315–334. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doi_(identifier) (doi):https://doi.org/10.1007%2Fbf01541951 (10.1007/bf01541951). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMID_(identifier) (PMID) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2673136 (2673136). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S2CID_(identifier) (S2CID) https://api.semanticscholar.org/CorpusID:43151898 (43151898).  Extended Notes A little bit about Michael and how he got into this field of work. This is a reposting of a book conversation from 2015, now included as a podcast (originally recorded on April 29, 2015 as a live, on air conversation with Alice Dreger, PhD, Professor of Medical Humanities, Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine). It originated in Black culture as a way to hold the powerful accountable, but was eventually appropriated as a political weapon for (mostly White) conservatives and liberal progressives, each group using it in very different ways. Cancel culture has brought much-needed attention to societal inequities, but also toppled careers - some justifiably, others more questionably. Could the French postmodern philosopher, Michel Foucault or American Gender theorist, Judith Butler provide us with arguments for the value of viewpoint diversity? For increasing the number of conservative faculty members on college campuses? Alice Dreger thinks so. Today's blog, written by Alice, a Heterodox Academy Advisory Council Member and the author of four books, most notably, Galileo's Middle Finger, is an exquisite reflection on one academic feminist's journey into and through the “science wars” - a divide between those who thought science could obtain objective truth and those who thought truth was a social-construction - and the lessons that she learned in the process. Her piece is called, “Could Feminism (Again) Provide an Argument for More Conservatives?” To engage deeper with Dreger's ideas, check out our related posts “Difference and Repetition in the Viewpoint Diversity Space” by Musa al-Gharbi, “Towards an Ethics of Activism” by Frances Lee, and “Callosal Failure: One Hundred Years of Viewpoint Diversity Activism” by Musa al-Gharbi. The human mind loves nothing more than to build mental boxes -- categories -- and put things into them, then refuse to accept it when something doesn't fit. Nowhere is this more clear than in the idea that there are men, and there are women, and that's it. Alice Dreger is an historian of science, specializing in intersexuality and the relationship between bodies and identities. She is also a successful activist, working to change the way that doctors deal with newborn children who are born intersex. We talk about human sexuality and a number of other hot-button topics, and ruminate on the challenges of being both an intellectual (devoted to truth) and an activist (seeking justice). “Nature doesn’t care about our desire to have these clean political categories for legal purposes.” — Alice Dreger Today I’m really excited to have Dr. Alice Dreger on the podcast. Dr. Dreger is a historian, bioethicist, author, and former professor of clinical medical humanities and bioethics at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. Dreger is widely known for her academic work and activism in support of people at the edge of anatomy, such as conjoined twins and those with atypical sex characteristics. In her observations, it’s often a fuzzy line between “male” and “female”, among other anatomical distinctions. A key question guiding a lot of Dr. Dreger’s work (and which was the topic of her TEDx talk) is “Why do we let our anatomy determine our fate?” Dr. Dreger is the author of multiple books, including “One of Us: Conjoined Twins and the Future of Normal” and “Galieleo’s Middle Finger Heretics, Activists, and the Search for Justice in Science.” In this episode, we discuss a wide range of topics, including: How Dr. Dreger got involved in the “Intersex Rights Movement” in the mid-90s The difference between anatomy and gender identity The relationship between our bodies and our personal and social identities and the role of science and medicine in determining this relationship Who gets to tell your body what it means How the mind isn’t the only place where identity exists, and how our identities also exist in the minds of others The future of gender pronouns How we should treat those who do not fit traditional notions of sex, such as the fascinating cases of “androgen sensitivity syndrome” and “congenital adrenal hyperplasia” How we can see more value in variation in anatomy The need for a more reality-based government Why the phrase “identity politics” is distracting and only part of a larger problem The benefits and disadvantages of the “Intellectual Dark Web” The increasing difficulty of being able to tell what is true and what is false in the media Why we spend so much of our energy on tribal politics and avoid the real humanitarian problems in the world Why tribal life is so compelling The need to balance male and female ways of being What an “Intellectual Light Web” might look like

She is the author of Galileo’s Middle Finger: Heretics, Activists, and One Scholar’s Search for Justice. In this episode, I talk to her about why she blames university brand management, and the corporatization of academia more broadly, for the policing of research, which has now become common in academic life. We talk about how the increasing reliance on external research funding has spurred attention to university brand management, and Alice also presents her recommendations for what to do if you are caught up in an academic controversy. Alice Dreger's Webpage Alice Dreger on Twitter Alice Dreger's keynote address on academic freedom at FIRE's 2017 faculty conference Selected Quotes 1 "I went to my [Northwestern] university provost and said, 'Admit that this was censorship and say that you won’t do it again.' He would not do that. And It seemed that he was legitimately afraid at that point of the [university] hospital corporation, which I found deeply concerning. And that’s why I finally did just resign. You can’t have any integrity if you have a major book out on academic freedom telling people to stand up for their academic rights and you’re allowing your university dean to tell you what you can and can’t publish." 2 "One thing I recommend to people, the minute they start to get into trouble with academic freedom, is that they contact FIRE because it’s one of the few organizations out there that will defend you for free and will do so vigorously. And universities do care about their FIRE rating. They really do care about It. So it matters."   Previous Episodes of Half Hour of Heterodoxy Music: "Ave Marimba" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Many museums around the world hold human bodies and body parts. Egyptian mummies draw huge crowds curious about our ancient past and specimens in medical museums allow us to imagine our own bodies from the inside. Many of these museum objects have become highly contested. Whilst some people may look at them and see artefacts or tools for knowledge, for others, human remains remain human. Shivaani Kohok explores why storing and displaying human remains in museums is so contentious. Many human remains in medical museums were obtained without the consent of the people they were removed from: curators like Carla Valentine of the Barts Pathology Museum in London argue that they should be preserved because they tell a story of the history of medicine, and may still be useful for scientific study. Bob Weatherall has been campaigning for decades to get museums to return remains of Aboriginal Australians to their communities of origin so they can be respectfully laid to rest. Chip Colwell, curator of Anthropology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, explains how museums in America have reacted to calls for the repatriation of Native American human remains. Alice Dreger, historian and philosopher of anatomy, believes that museums should consider whether some repatriation claims could result in a loss of scientific learning. Every year, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education puts out a list of the 10 worst colleges for free speech. And this year, surprisingly, half of the schools on the list earned their spot because they threatened faculty’s right to speak out in some way. One institution on that list was Northwestern University. Last year, Northwestern made headlines for its extraordinary attacks on academic freedom on two separate occasions. Once for its 72-day Title IX investigation into Professor Laura Kipnis’ public writings and comments about sexual politics on campus. And on another occasion, for its censorship of a faculty-produced bioethics journal that it feared would damage its medical school’s “brand.” This episode of “So to Speak” is about academic freedom, and our guest is Alice Dreger. Dreger is an historian of medicine and science, a sex researcher, a mainstream writer, and what she calls “an (im)patient advocate.” She also formerly held the position of full professor in Medical Humanities and Bioethics at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, and she was a guest editor for the bioethics journal that Northwestern sought to censor. In this episode, we speak with Dreger about the importance of academic freedom at Northwestern and beyond, why the corporatization of the modern university threatens free speech on campus, and why we must use the word “formerly” when describing her tenure at Northwestern. www.sotospeakpodcast.com Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/freespeechtalk Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/sotospeakpodcast Email us: sotospeak@thefire.org Call in a question: 215-315-0100

What's far less common is finding an English professor who decides (north of the age of forty, no less) to become a doctor -- yet such is the case with Terrence Holt, a physician and medical school prof based in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We speak with Dr. Holt about his well-regarded new collection of autobiographical tales, "Internal Medicine: A Doctor's Stories," and about his journey as a writer and doctor more generally. We also chat with Scott Hensley, who writes and edits stories for Shots, the Health Blog from NPR News. Stigma from illness keeps sufferers in the dark, where they’re ashamed to give voice to their afflictions out of fear and embarrassment. Dr. Anne Hallward, a psychiatrist in Maine, is giving voice to those living in the shadows and talks to host John Henning Schumann about her work. Gary Schwitzer of HealthNewsReview.org reviews the week's health news, and medical humanist Alice Dreger shares a meditation on using data to guide her own health care. This program originally aired on Public Radio 89.5 KWGS.

Kathy is classy and Irish Catholic. Billy is a slutty athiest. SITCOM! They both have a fun conversation about fickle dating standards, sexual histories and marriage. Kathy is a young ex-fiance and recalls the red flags leading to the end of her military engagement. The two ponder a world where Catholic priests are allowed to have casual sex. If you saw the Pope on Tinder, would you swipe right?  Slut shaming continues to plague our country after the Belle Knox incident and Alyssa Funke's recent suicide. Billy rants about the tragic state of sex education in schools. Alice Dreger's article asks, "What If We Admitted to Children That Sex Is Primarily About Pleasure?" NEW DRINKING GAME! Take a shot every time Kathy says "madonna/whore complex". For your health, I edited out a few of them. Plus another great round of CreepyPMs Theater. This week's episode is sponsored by prolactin.
