It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at how Hansi Flick's slightly surprising appointment at Barcelona last summer has turned into a masterstroke, and how the German has immediately brought the Blaugrana back to the top table of European football with a string of youngsters and some of the most exciting attacking football on the continent. There were question marks about Flick after his ill-fated tenure with the German national team, but his record at club level speaks for itself. And yet, when he was appointed at Barcelona to replace Xavi last summer, there were plenty who felt that this could be a step in the wrong direction for a Barcelona side mired in debt and already one step behind fierce rivals Real Madrid, who had just won La Liga and the Champions League, and then gone out and signed Kylian Mbappé, who was widely considered the best player in the world. But Flick took Xavi's possession-orientated philosophy and made it more direct, more streamlined; put his faith in the youngsters emerging from La Masia; and turned good players into superstars - all whilst staying true to his own brand of football and putting perhaps the boldest style of football in Europe on display for all to see. So was this a stroke of luck that the players matched his philosophy, or has the former Bayern treble-winner worked his magic again on another squad willing to do whatever he needs for them to get to the very top? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
Real Madrid lose 2-3 to Barcelona game winner by Jules Kounde. Pedri opens the game with a goal from outside the box. Mbappe lights up the crowd with a free kick goal and 7 mins later Tchoumeni gets a headed goal. But Yamal with second assist of the game puts a ball for Ferran Torres to score pass Courtios and Rudiger. Kounde game winner was just poor mistakes by Real players and lost final.

The BarcaBreakdown is back discussing the 1-0 loss of FC Barcelona vs. Almeria, with the worst performance of the season by Xavi's men. Lewandowski continues to struggle greatly, with very little impact on the game. The rotations to rest Kounde, Araujo and Balde seemed to backfire as Almeria scored on a quick counterattack. Gavi again picks up a yellow, one that will cause him to miss the next game against Valencia in La Liga. We really, really miss Pedri and Dembele....
The BarcaBreakdown is back with Pablo Wools-Blanco (@pabloWBofficial) to discuss the FC Barcelona vs. Manchester United Europa League gaming coming up Thursday. FC Barcelona are on fire, as Xavi has lead the team to 0 losses so far in 2023. Barca fans are certainly feeling good about the team with Frenkie De Jong, Ter Stegen, Balde, Pedri, Kounde etc. playing at their absolute best for FC Barcelona. Unfortunately, Barcelona will be missing Ousmane Dembele and Busquets, though Kessie and Raphinha have replaced them well so far. However, Manchester United are also looking very strong under Erik Ten Hag, with Marcus Rashford on absolute fire lately. As always, Casemiro will be a familiar foe for Barca at the Camp Nou Thursday. Lissandro Martinez and Marcel Sabitzer will be unable to play due to suspensions, they also have Christian Eriksen injured. What do you predict will be the final score? Let us know in the comments! Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/BarcaBreakdown https://twitter.com/PabloWBOfficial
FC Barcelona took 3 huge points against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano, leaving Barca top of the league after Real Madrid's dropped points against Villareal. Xavi's Barca went ahead early in the 22nd minute as Ousmane Dembele scored a huge goal thanks to a beautiful run from Pedri and nice touch by Gavi. The game became nervy after, however, as Barca lost control and our old foe/friend Antoinne Griezmann lead Atleti in the search for a goal. However, the wonderful backline of Balde, Christensen, Araujo, and Kounde helped Marc Andre Ter Stegen keep another clean sheet in La Liga! Xavi experimented with a four man midfield of Busquets and Frenkie De Jong behind Pedri and Gavi, with only Ousmane Dembele and Fati up front with Robert Lewandowski serving his 3 match ban. Unfortunately, substitute Ferran Torres received a red card, adding to the recent red cards of Jordi Alba and Robert Lewandowski.
The BarcaBreakdown is back with a match review of FC Barcelona's 1-1 draw against Espanyol, featuring goals by Marcus Alonso and Joselu. Xavi's Barca returned after the World Cup (won by Lionel Messi!!) and immediately entered a derby versus Espanyol marred by the awful officiating from Mateu Lahoz. We did see Xavi rest some players who recently came back from international duty, such as Kounde and Dembele from France, as well as Araujo not featuring as he slowly gets reintegrated with the team after injury recovery. The first half saw FC Barcelona apply the most pressure, culminating with the Alonso goal assisted by Christensen. However, we did see ineffective play from Ansu Fati and Raphinha. Xavi decided to use Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, and Gavi in the midfield, a continuation of the last few games where we have seen Busquets slowly lose his place as an every game starter. The second half was a Lahoz fiest, filled with a double-yellow red card for Jordi Alba, with both cards occurring within 5 minutes of each other. Espanyol also received the 2 reds, though one was rescinded after a VAR review. Barcelona are now level on points with Real Madrid for the La Liga lead, though Barca currently have the lead on goal difference. https://www.youtube.com/@BarcaBuzzTV
On episode 419, Dan and Francesc discuss Francesc's experiences at the World Cup and Argentina's chances against France in the final.
