In a world where the pace of work feels as rapid as a cosmic voyage, thought leaders are pioneering solutions that defy convention. Today we unravel an unconventional gem: The unFIX model. Unlike traditional agile frameworks and self management approaches, unFIX introduces a paradigm focused on perpetual innovation and enhancing the human experience. We sit down with Jurgen Appelo, a trailblazer in the world of organizational transformation and the visionary behind unFIX, who also happened to be our very first podcast guest back in 2016. We discuss everything from organizational design and artificial intelligence to the power of personal habits, and how Appelo's views have changed over the last seven years. Learn more about Jurgen and the unFIX model here: https://unfix.com/ ** Happiness means different things to each of us. After doing extensive research, Management 3.0 founder Jurgen Appelo discovered a common thread: Happiness is something we create. It is not something to achieve. It is a path you choose, not a destination to arrive at. So many of us spend our lives in pursuit of happiness. Instead of searching for it, we need to find ways to live it, embrace it, and implement it into our daily lives. That's why we created the 12 Steps to Happiness at Management 3.0. You can find more information and even download a free poster of the 12 steps at: https://management30.com/practice/ For more happiness visit: https://management30.com/

Today I'm talking with Lisa Appelo about her tragic story of suddenly becoming a widow with 7 children and how God ended up using this hard season of her life to fuel her calling to help others endure grief and hardships. In this episode, we talk about her story of loss and moving forward. Then we talk about how she realized that God was calling her to use this hard season to help others. We cover topics like being obedient to God's call on your life (even when you would've picked a different option), the importance of niching down, blogging as a business model, and becoming a published author to reach and serve her audience. There is so much goodness in this episode! So I really hope that her story inspires you today either from the perspective of someone going through something really hard and you don't know how it'll turn out OR as someone wondering where God is calling you as you see how God used a tragedy in Lisa's life to actually be her calling in business and ministry. What can we learn in the midst of tragic circumstances? My guest today, Lisa Appelo, reminds us that God's goodness doesn't start and stop. He is faithful and good all the time. She shares how "God reshapes what's shattered" so life can be good again. Eleven years ago, Lisa went to bed happily married to her high school sweetheart and woke up a widow and single mom. We talk about the days, months, and years following the loss of the man she'd loved since high school. But that's not all we talk about. Lisa shares how God helped her navigate through grief, and how she's now helping others navigate those unchartered waters. Thankfully, God is always there and He knows the way. I know what Lisa shares will encourage, inspire, and challenge you--so listen in while I have a chat with Lisa Appelo. By the Way... Childhood should be carefree, right? We hope that our kids make it to adulthood with as few scars as possible, but that isn't the nature of the world we live in. What happens when our kids encounter grief? What happens when we aren't able to give them the childhood we wanted them to have? This week I talk with Lisa Appelo, widow and mom of seven, who found herself in that spot - grieving the life she wanted for herself and her children, and then having to navigate the shift in every relationship that comes through change or grief. What she has found in the last 11+ years has been the presence of God for her and her kids. The rhythm of their regular bible study was a lifeline and she offers us great encouragement of God's nearness and direct involvement in our lives. Read more of their story in Lisa's new book Life can be Good Again: Putting Your World Back Together After it All Falls Apart. We're taking time this summer (as usual) to be mentored by some experienced moms and benefit from their wisdom. I'm asking them about their “mom brands” and the unique families and assignments God has given them to help us embrace the specific and unique spot God has given each of us. Discussion Questions: What stood out to you in the episode? What does family bible reading look like in your home? What is one change you could make to your routine to incorporate some kind of bible reading? Think small! Remember that Lisa says it's a fight to make that space but totally worth it. Where can you give your kids the freedom to choose, allowing the Lord to work in them independent of your direct guidance? You can think small here too! Where might you need to step back in your child's life to preserve your relationship with them? What relationships have shifted because of loss or change, big or small? Spend time praying with and for one another over these relationships and God's good plan for them. (This could feel like an insurmountable question for someone in your group - approach it with empathy and care!) Today, I have an incredibly special conversation to share with you. Lisa Appelo is a writer, speaker, Bible study teacher, and homeschooling Mom of 7. As a young couple, Lisa and her husband had a vision of how they thought their life would unfold, and the Lord redirected those plans a number of times. One of the biggest things they never saw coming was that her husband, and high school sweetheart, passed away very suddenly. After this devastating loss, Lisa began trying to navigate life with her children ranging at the time from ages 4 to 19, and as a woman whose life had been so tightly woven together with her partner's, and a woman who had always believed in and loved the Lord, but needed Him to be near, and real and good to her in a way she had never known before. In her new book, Life Can Be Good Again: Putting Your World Back Together After It Falls Apart, and in our conversation today, Lisa shares what her journey of grief, wrestling with God, and truly depending on Him looked like in those first tender days and weeks, but even now as she continues to walk with the same God who has always been near to the brokenhearted in this broken world. We talk about some of the big questions we honestly ask in lament before our Maker like: are you going to be there for me? How are you going to provide for me? How are you going to fix these broken hearts? Are you really good? Is God doing this to me? Is He a mean God? As Lisa sought out God in His word and experienced His tangible care through those around her, she wrestled through these questions and shares today the difficult but life-giving process of turning to the Lord in crisis, and not turning away from Him. God has healing and purpose in everything He calls us to, and He is truly good. I know this is an episode many, many people need to hear and I pray it ministers to you today. Just remember the pain you see around you, or that you personally know, this is not how the story ends. You matter, and your story matters.
