Welcome to the Boozebuddy Update. For you Boozebuddies today I have - Sunny D RTD, Chat GPT's AIPA, & Irish Whiskey Sunny D RTDs with Vodka is launching at select Walmart locations across the country on March 11th, 2023. Everyone who grew up with Sunny D is pretty excited to see the brand coming back to them as adults - and they're coming as a low-calorie 4.5% ABV vodka seltzer with real juice, zero sugar, and 95 calories. So they should have broad appeal to people looking to pop the top on summer. Click the link for all the details. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/you-asked-we-delivered-sunnyd-vodka-seltzer-is-here-301764278.html It was bound to happen - someone used AI to create an IPA or, as it's being appropriately called, an A.I.P.A. Chat GPT is the computer culprit here and it's guilty of making a delicious beer. The humans at Atwater Brewery gave Chat GPT a simple request, to brew an American IPA using centennial, citra, amarillo, and melon hops. It also converted the recipe from a home brew scale to the 20-barrel scale needed by the brewery. Check out the AIPA at the link https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-11790015/Anyone-AIPA-Detroit-brewery-lets-ChatGPT-create-latest-BEER.html The Boozebuddy Update is brought to you by Green Mountain Payments - helping local business owners save thousands of dollars by providing complimentary credit card processing equipment and zero cost credit card processing. Another big week of impeachment news. Both sides have stated their cases. Republicans decided they wanted to skip witnesses and go right to closing arguments. Segments from Bolton’s book get leaked. Too little too soon? Knobs finds out there is an important football game this weekend. We discuss snack and party traditions for the big game. We do all of this over beers from Eastern Market Brewing and Atwater Brewery
Deadly coronavirus low-risk in Michigan, Atwater Brewery sells to Molson Coors, DSO names young Italian conductor Jader Bignamini as music director, and Michigan State basketball begins 'separation week' Thursday at Indiana.
The big beer news in town was that Atwater Brewery sold to a subsidiary of Molson Coors, Tenth and Blake. But why? And what's next? To take a look behind the deal, a talk with Atwater owner Mark Rieth. That conversation is at 7 minutes in. We also round up a few things happening around Michigan and Detroit: Tesla can now sell cars easier in Michigan, and service them through a subsidiary. That's big news. But there may be more to the story. Experts say that a dealer protection law that passed almost unanimously - and with bipartisan support - probably couldn't have withstood a true challenge in court. That would have major impacts as buyers are used to online and streamlined buying experiences, and more than 36,000 people are employed by Michigan's 600 or so franchise dealers. Here's a link to the Attorney General's announcement. Detroit's three casinos have record revenue. The Detroit River at Ralph C. Wilson park is going to get a big cleanup, as it turns out it's an "area of concern." The city of Detroit's property values have gone up 20% in the last year, says the city. But we give context. In 2008, it was worth $8.8 billion. In 2018, $3 billion. So although some progress, nowhere near a recovery to post-recession levels. McNichols (really, they should just call it 6 Mile) is getting a major streetscape facelift between Livernois and Greenlawn. Think the Fitzgerald neighborhood, just west of University Detroit Mercy. EP 58 - We Want To Play A Drinking Game - SAW Retrospective Pt. 1 You wake up, chained to a rusty pipe, in a dank room. You wonder to yourself, "What's that awful smell hanging thick in the air?" You shudder at the realization. It's something dead.... rotting. "I'm not the first to end up here, and I don't think I will be the last." Suddenly the voice of your unknown captor presents you with a simple choice. Do nothing, and simply die, or fight for your life and freedom no matter what the cost. If this situation sounds familiar, it means you have probably found yourself at the mercy of the legendary Jigsaw... or you made the mistake of going home with someone that you met at Madison's Pub in Mt. Clemens Michigan. Probably the latter because Jigsaw is just a fictional character in a movie, and Madison's Pub is all too painfully real. But we digress. This week we decided to "Cherish Our Lives" with some Better Life Choices IPA from Atwater Brewery, and dive into Part 1 of our SAW retrospective, leading up to the release of the brand new JIGSAW movie coming out later this month. EP 36 - The Murder Mitten A quick skim through any one of our episodes should make it pretty clear that we are extremely proud of our home state of Michigan. There is something for everyone here. Amazing breweries, beaches, lakes, mountains, great music, and great people. With all of it's different facets, it's no surprise that it was an up-and-comer in the filmmaking community. With our great film tax incentives in place, it seemed like Michigan was on the fast track to becoming a staple in the world of cinema, but our hopes were dashed. You'll hear us talk more about that in the episode. We get a little upset... Fortunately there are still some filmmakers who see the value that Michigan has, and continue to create in our lovely home state. This week we grabbed some Grand Circus IPA from Atwater Brewery, right here in detroit, and discussed some horror movies that have come out the mitten in the past few years. HIGH FIVE!!! I got to sit down with a very funny comedian from Detroit, MI that I first saw at the IFC stage at the Oddball comedy festival Josh Adams. I met up with Josh at a spot in Detroit up the street from Atwater Brewery called They Say on a Thursday before their Open Mic Night where I got to see Josh perform after recording this episode. Josh is very funny and a great writer and performer. You can check out the first season of his web-series Dead Wrong on YouTube. Dead Wrong takes place in the same world of The Walking Dead up 75 from Rick and the gang to Detroit where Josh and his friend think they are the last people alive. Today on the podcast I am talking with Steve Johnson of Motor City Brew Tours. Last time we talked with Steve he let us know that he was working on a book. That book, Detroit Beer: A History of Brewing in the Motor City, was released Monday May 16. I have read it and I really enjoyed the book. Not only does it touch on beer history in Detroit but it also does a great job explaining the craft beer revolution happening in Metro Detroit today. Steve and I got together this past Sunday for some beers and to discuss whats been going on with him and his book. If you would like to get a copy of the book you can go online to detroitbeerbook.com or motorcitybrewtours.com/beer-book. You can also meet Steve and get a signed copy of the book at a number of signing events going on around Metro Detroit. Some of the up-coming events are a book signing at Atwater Brewery in Detroit on May 18th, book signing at Jolly Pumpkin's Null Brewery and Bar on May 19th, a book signing at North Center Brewing Company in Northville on Mat 21. You can find more information on these dates and more on the Motor City Brew Tours Facebook page and website. As always you can join the conversation on my website BillsBeerReport.com or my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @BillsBeerReport.
