Ce soir, 26 août, la plateforme de streaming Max vous fait découvrir la suite du film La Cité de Dieu qui avait profondément marqué le paysage cinématographique international lors de sa sortie en 2002. Vingt ans plus tard, quasiment tous les protagonistes sont de retour pour continuer à dépeindre la résilience des habitants d'un quartier défavorisé de Rio de Janeiro dans La Cité de Dieu : la lutte continue. Une série en 6 épisodes qui reprend les prémices du long-métrage et met Buscapé, devenu l'un des photographes les plus en vogue du Brésil, au cœur de la guerre qui oppose dealers et force de l'ordre. Un atout qui avait contribué au succès du long-métrage, La Cité de Dieu, qui était devenu le plus gros succès brésilien de tous les temps. Un film fort qui avait impacté la scène internationale grâce à son histoire vraie – les personnages réels étaient par ailleurs présentés lors du générique final – sa perspective originale montrée à travers les yeux d'un passionné de photographie ainsi que l'évolution des protagonistes que l'on suit sur deux décennies. Aussi, reprendre les mêmes prémices n'est jamais chose aisée et si la série ne cache pas sa filiation avec le film original, lui empruntant même des scènes afin de les utiliser comme rappel pour le public, elle a fait le choix intelligent de développer une intrigue inédite. Ici, le retour de l'enfant tout sauf prodigue, Bradock (Thiago Martins) qui va rapidement faire éclater la bulle, en apparence paisible, construite par son père de cœur Curio (Marcos Palmeira) qui règne en maître dans le quartier. Mais La Cité de Dieu : la lutte continue, tout en donnant un nouveau souffle scénaristique à l'intrigue initiale, parvient à garder ce qui avait fait l'âme du film : les photos prises sur le vif de Buscapé (Alexandre Rodrigues) toujours là au bon moment et au bon endroit, son amitié indéfectible avec Barbantinho (Edson Oliveira) et la volonté de trouver un peu de joie dans une réalité douloureuse. On ne peut d'ailleurs que saluer la volonté de la série d'effacer, dès le premier épisode, toutes traces de manichéisme à travers l'association des résidents qui permet aux jeunes de trouver un havre de paix dans un environnement dont on peut sentir l'ébullition grandir au fur et à mesure que s'égrènent les minutes des différents chapitres. Une ébullition entérinée par le lien de parenté entre les deux antagonistes – Bradock et Curio – qui rend le sentiment de trahison d'autant plus exacerbé. After a stellar week for premieres, we wrap up for this week with an amazing, high octane techno track, from hardware enthusiast Stefan Goldmann. Goldmann's music has been released on labels like Perlon, Innervisions, and others since 2001. In further years, Goldmann has created a tight relationship with Berlin's Berghain and Panorama Bar club, for which he publishes a column, is a co-author of its book, and is the creator of the Elektroakustischer Salon event series. Goldmann's label, Macro was founded by in 2007 and has released some legendary records from equally incredible artists. Its releases range from techno tracks to symphonic recordings. It has also been home to releases from artists such as KiNK, Maria Chavez, Peter Kruder, Pete Namlook, Raudive, Santiago Salazar and remixes by Pépé Bradock, Ricardo Villalobos and The Knife's Oni Ayhun. A series of three 7″ on records on Macro, sees Stefan Goldmann probing the upper temporal reaches of techno. Clocking in at 150 bpm, these tracks are bold and blazing signals for a collective return to highly energised club experiences. More bouncy than harsh, these tracks show impressively how different tempos allow for their own variety of joyful expression. Toady we premiere the track ‘Geared' which finishes out the 6 track release with raw voltage and sparks flying. The blistering yet functional techno bomb is driven by well crafted analogue tool. Bleep heaven at 150bpm, sounds good to me. In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. Ethyène and his Moonrise Hill Material crew have come seemingly out of nowhere to become some of 2017’s most in-demand deep house & disco purveyors. Alongside Folamour, Kaffe Crème and St. Clair, the quartet have delivered tonnes of acclaimed music on their own and other labels , as the French themselves might say. Ethyène’s love of hip-hop as well as 4/4 also shines through on this mix which takes in some of his downtempo excursions alongside dancefloor grooves, with plenty of unreleased action on the way. Sample-heavy, charming stuff with an almost pop-like sensibility. *How would you describe your sound?* I mainly produce downtempo house music and hip-hop built around samples. As a producer who loves to sample, I guess my music is at the crossroads between all the genres I'm daily digging with an important focus on natural grooves & ‘90s black music. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* I've been listening to tons of hip-hop when I was younger thanks to my family living in Philadelphia which is close to NYC and is the city of Jazzy Jeff and The Roots. As a huge Nas fan, I think I discovered sampling through DJ Premier and immediately felt in love with it. I discovered then sample-based house music thanks to the French scene classics like Pépé Bradock, St Germain and started to have a huge interest in this genre until I got into the early Detroit house scene—Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Andrés—and decided this was the music I wanted to do. *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* This mix features tracks from almost of my releases until today. I feel kind of proud to have been asked to record a 100% Ethyène mix and being able not to spend such an unpleasant hour listening to it, haha... I recently had the pleasure of playing at the tied and Naughty Bad Fun Collective New Year party.  My slot was early in Room 2, a "Back To Mine" themed room made for a more laid back environment from the more upbeat Room 1.  It was so enjoyable getting the party started on a more eclectic tip, and I really felt good energy from the early attendees who enjoyed hearing something a little different than the usual *unst*unst*unst*.  Days after the party and other really great gigs, too, the sounds from that early set still stuck with me, inspiring me to go into the studio and distill 2+ hours of tracks into this reconstructed, reinterpreted version of my contribution to that evening...Thanks to NBCF and tied for a great start to 2014!  Enjoy...Duke Shin - Reconstruct & ReUp 1:14:12Tracklisting01.
