In this weeks edition of R2D Julian Forgue.. Yes THE Julian Forge of Julians joins the crew for a unique conversation and history lesson about the industry and the city of Providence. A self proclaimed "Egg Marine" Julian opened one of the cities most popular and sought after restaurants in all of Rhode Island in 1994. Today Julian is somewhat banned from his own (no longer his) establishment. A controversial figure in the Providence food scene, Julian gives us his story. From origins of the restaraunt, to his favorite Jedi, and taking advice from Buddy Cianci himself Julian is truly a one of a kind human.

He is most notably known for his one-man show which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in titled, "The Last Sicilian." The show has played to sold out crowds in Rhode Island and New York City. Nick is also well-known for playing the famous mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, Buddy Cianci, in another show he wrote titled, "BUDDY: One Last Night!" He also performs stand-up comedy around the local comedy scene intermittently. Did you know that The Providence Bruins began operation for the start of the 1992–93 AHL season after Providence mayor Buddy Cianci negotiated a deal with the owners of the Maine Mariners franchise to relocate their club? The move saw AHL hockey return to Providence for the first time since the Providence Reds, a founding member of the AHL, left town in 1977. Now for our feature story: Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Dan McKee said he wants cities and towns to become more involved in the COVID-19 vaccination effort to help speed up distribution once more shots become available. McKee said Friday that he hopes to expand the state's capacity to get shots in arms after he takes over from Gov. Provi. McKee said that cities and towns “are going to be a big part of that,” in a virtual meeting with his COVID-19 advisers. “We need to use our communities to create this 9/11 moment where we bring people together in a way that we are rallying around an enemy, and COVID is the enemy, and we are going to beat that enemy,” McKee said. The Democrat did not provide more detail about his plans for cities and towns, but he said he will continue to use state vaccination sites created under the Raimondo administration. McKee has been critical of the state's vaccination efforts, which he has said are moving too slowly. Governor Raimondo is leaving her post after being chosen by President Joe Biden to lead the United States Commerce Department. This week we meet a couple who found themselves drinking water contaminated by radioactive lab waste, and a man who has to wear a hazmat suit to enter his house. We’ll also learn about the down and dirty politics of Providence, Rhode Island in the 1970s and 80s, when city leaders cozied up to the mob. Finally, immigrants to New England give us a sense of what we should be grateful for. They say shoddy construction and water infiltration led to mold and yeast, which in turn made them and their son sick. Lab animals and the chemicals that were used on them – were dumped by researchers in the 1960s and 70s. Now a toxic chemical – 1,4 dioxane – has shown up in the groundwater of nearby homeowners. Rebecca Sananes has been covering the story for Vermont Public Radio, and she gets us caught up. Brady Sullivan Properties has, to put it mildly, had a pretty bad couple of years. They've made the news after state and federal investigations into lead contamination and illegal dumping of asbestos. And those are just the cases that made headlines – in recent years there have been other complaints involving Brady Sullivan projects from homeowners and others. He’d stay at the office into the night fixing problems,  and would even show up at a fire at two in the morning. But in order to get elected, Cianci cut deals with the political machine, and he “made arrangements” with the local mob. Marc Smerling and Zac Stewart-Pontier, producers of the HBO documentary series the Jinx, sat down with mobsters and bureaucrats years later to create Crimetown, a new podcast from Gimlet Media.
