The sand was really cold! Key Takeaways While National Parks are well-known brown signs, a brown sign is a locally designated attraction worth checking out. The 4th grade pass is a great excuse to let you children determine your national park trip. Since it provides free entrance for the entire car for any one with the Every Kid Every Park pass from September 1- August 31st, you can even make an entire year of it. There are other National Park pass benefits for veterans, and seniors, in addition to the yearlong America the Beautiful Pass. How do you or your kids document their adventures? As mentioned my daughter has a tradition of taking a picture with the entrance sign, has a postcard of all of the national parks (Link on Amazon to the pack) and writes a point in time memory from her experience. Not all of her highlights were planned. Make sure during an experience you take time to allow things to develop. Don't overlook the simple things. The highlight of Yosemite for Heidi's daughter was climbing on the rocks. Consider more than checking the box. What are some lesser known aspects to the park? What makes this park unique? No need to correct their memories. They experience things through their own filter, let that memory be theirs. If my daughter wants to remember the llamas. Let them “Walk in Clouds” Wildlife in the winter is a very different experience. Consider off-season to discover elements of the park that shine during different seasons. Slow down and smell the eucalyptus trees. Memories are not always based on what you are “doing” all of your senses contribute to the overall experience. Nature is a built in playground, but kids don't see it that way unless you nurture it. Wild animals are still wild animals and all safety considerations are there for a reason. Nick was in a different role at the time of this recording and he is now the head of strength and conditioning for the New Castle United football Club. Nick's first job was as head of sport science for British Gymnastics at Lilleshall Sports Injury and Human Performance Centre. In 2001, Nick moved from gymnastics to England Netball, to work in one of the first full-time strength and conditioning roles in high-performance UK sport. Two years later, he became one of the first strength and conditioning coaches to work for the English Institute of Sport, leading its West Midlands team across three sites. Leaving the English Institute of Sport in 2007, Nick established himself as a Performance Enhancement Specialist working with the Chinese National Football team, the RFU, Great Britain's Men's and Women's Basketball teams, Championship and Premiership football teams. Nick has worked with athletes who have competed at four Olympics and is a Performance Consultant for Nike. This is a black arts and culture site. My father served in the army 1946-1950, sometime while he was in the service his family took a trip from Nebraska to New York City. While visiting the Empire State Building, at the top there was this coin operated machine that would cut your own record, recording your voice, that you could mail to your friends. My mom has that record. I recorded the record to a wav file and it sounds really bad. I don't understand German so I hope they aren't saying anything bad. Enclosed are some photos of it and the wav files from it.” Is there anyone out there who speaks German who could translate this recording for Myron? If that's something you can help with, that would be amazing. . Published June 7, 2009 GEM: 65th Anniversary of D-Day I've written a about the D-Day anniversary that includes an article that appeared in the Yorkshire Post about how the memory of WWII is slipping through the cracks of time. In my own family my grandfather's brother Elzie Cecil Moore who we called Uncle Elzie participated in the invasion of Normandy and received the bronze star and a purple heart for a shot he took to his shoulder during the invasion. Shortly after that he received a second purple hear for a shot he received through his face. Growing up I always noticed that scar on his chin and thought it was a cute dimple, not realizing until I started asking questions about family history that it was from a bullet. Above: Elzie in Boot Camp My Grandmother Pauline Moore worked at the Kaiser Shipyard in Richmond, California building the Navy ships that sailed the Pacific. She was the secretary to the Dock Yard Manager for Yard #2 and that meant that she helped hire and process all the Rosies. In fact, when the Yard was finally closed down at the end of the war, Grandma was the last women through the gates. Like so many women she sacrified time with my dad was born in 1939 and was not yet in school. But she often told me it was one of the happiest times in her life because everyone was pulling together.
