“This week, the global stage is on fire—and at the center of it is Donald Trump.   After wrapping up high-stakes stops in Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Qatar, Trump now heads to Istanbul, and this isn't just another handshake tour.   In Saudi Arabia, he sealed $600 billion in AI and energy investments—with U.S. tech giants backing the kingdom's ambitions to lead in artificial intelligence. In Qatar, he witnessed the largest aircraft deal in Boeing's history. And in Syria—shockingly—he lifted all U.S. sanctions and met with the new president, pushing Syria to join the Abraham Accords.   But now: Istanbul.   On paper, Trump is attending a reception at Trump Towers Istanbul. But in the backdrop? Vladimir Putin's sudden call for Ukraine peace talks.   So is this a genuine push for peace—or a global power play?   Turkey, as a NATO member that's kept close ties with both the West and Russia, is the perfect stage for a strategic pivot. Trump showing up in Istanbul right now, at a site that bears his name, may signal he's ready to step in as a deal-maker—or a kingmaker—in the Ukraine conflict.   Is he positioning himself as the only one who can broker peace between Ukraine and Russia? Or is this about optics, leverage, and legacy?   We'll be unpacking all this and more in this episode—don't miss it.”     Quantum Nurse https://graceasagra.com/  http://graceasagra.bio.link/presents Freedom International Livestream Thursday May 15, 2025 @ 9:00 AM EST Featured Guest: Joaquin Flores Topic: “Peace or Power Play? “I said, ‘I really wish a book existed with more women composers in it'... This book is so important in 2024 with equality and inclusivity being at the forefront of our profession. I think that this is timely, and I think it's a great representation of where we're going in our profession right now especially given the fact that I see a lot more programming to be equal with male composers and women composers.”Alan Troy Davis is a conductor, music educator, tenor, and voice teacher with extensive experience in both academic and community music settings. He has completed the coursework for a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree in choral conducting at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and is currently finalizing his doctoral document. He also holds a Master of Music (M.M.) in Choral Conducting from California State University–Los Angeles, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Secondary Education from Portland State University, and a Bachelor of Musical Arts (B.M.A.) in Music from Pacific Lutheran University.Davis has taught in public high schools across Oregon, Colorado, and California and has directed a variety of church and community ensembles. His research interests focus on choral intonation, conducting pedagogy and score study, vocal pedagogy within choral rehearsals, Renaissance and Baroque performance practices and repertoire, and the exploration of choral repertoire by women composers. As a compiler and contributing author, Davis is playing a key role in the forthcoming book Choral Repertoire by Women Composers, scheduled for publication by GIA Publications, Inc. in January 2025. This episode is brought to you by Momentous, BON CHARGE, and Lifeforce.  Social media often mentions narcissism, but what exactly does this term entail? What traits define a narcissist, and what are the implications of being in a narcissistic relationship? Today's guest contends that these relationships pose the most significant public health challenges of our time, and the full extent of their impact on our physical and mental well-being remains to be understood. On today's episode of The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru engages in a profound discussion with clinical psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula, delving into the intricate topic of narcissism. Many institutions require instructors to provide "interim" or "midterm" grades. How does this work with an alternatively graded class? In this episode, co-hosts Sharona and Bosley are once again joined by nationally board certified English teacher Joe Zeccola to discuss the practice of providing middle-of-the-term grades to students and other stakeholders. In addition to interim grades, we also discuss how redesigning your grading practices can have a profound impact on teaching practices throughout a classroom.ResourcesThe Grading Conference - an annual, online conference exploring Alternative Grading in Higher Education and K-12.Some great resources to educate yourself about Alternative Grading:The Grading for Growth BlogThe Grading ConferenceThe Intentional Academia BlogRecommended Books on Alternative Grading (Please note - any books linked here are likely Amazon Associates links. We consider ourselves spiritual and are in alignment with many fundamental Indigenous beliefs. We believe that the Universe has spiritual laws just as there are Universal laws that govern nature, for example, the Universal law of gravity. All objects attract each other with a force of gravitational pull, and this law is consistent despite a changing environment. This happens regardless if you believe in gravity or not, it is absolute. Disert is a remote townland in the Bluestack Mountains in Co Donegal. For reasons that are not entirely clear, our ancestors have been drawn here for thousands of years. There is no question it is a special place.Located in the shade of a sacred mountain - Carnaween - it was a site of pagan worship associated with some of the most famous figures in Irish mythology. There are stories relating to Finn MacCumhail (McCool), Diarmaid and Grainne in the surrounding area.It was also used by early Irish Christians and medieval pilgrims. In the 18th century Catholics were drawn to Disert when their religion was suppressed by the penal laws. Even into the 20th century it was used as a cillín to bury unbaptised children. Today the local community continues to pray at the site. The questions remains why? What is special about this site?Over the last few years archaeologists led by Dr Fiona Beglane from Atlantic Technological University, Sligo have been excavating Disert to try and understand its complex story. Her international team of archaeologists from the Institute for Field Research and California State University Los Angeles have made some fascinating discoveries.Last summer I visited Disert to record an episode at the excavation. In this podcast Fiona shares what her team uncovered in this remarkable place...Thanks to Dr Fiona Beglane for her time and archaeologist Rebekka Grace who arranged the recordings.Find out more about Disert at https://disertheritage.com/ Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/irishhistory. You will be inspired by her story, positive attitude, but mostly her courage! If you are looking to re-invent yourself, get out of a rut and/or grow in 2022, you will get a lot of wisdom from Norma. Born and raised in Detroit before moving to Los Angeles in 1993, Award-winning journalist and author Norma Zager returned to journalism after a 14-year stint as a stand up comic, playing Las Vegas regularly and opening for the biggest names in laughter. Her television and radio appearances on Food Network's Clash of the Grandmas, as guest host with Bobby Deen on The Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship and Hallmark Channel's Home and Family show have made her a favorite with audiences. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles from the Detroit area in 1993 she created Norma's 14 Karat Cookies to support herself and her children and was the first comedian to have her own comedy/cooking show in Las Vegas. Her celebrity clients have included Jerry Seinfeld, Arsenio Hall and Roseanne, who dubbed Norma's stuffed brownies, “my favorite thing to eat.” In 1999, Zager returned to journalism and accepted a position as a reporter at the Beverly Hills Courier newspaper. After nationally scooping all other media and breaking the story about Laura Schlessinger's mother's death combined with her in-depth coverage of other important stories, she was promoted to editor. When Erin Brockovich sued the city of Beverly Hills alleging an oil well on high school grounds was the cause of numerous cancers in former students, Zager's coverage and determination to print the truth garnered national attention. In 2003 she was awarded the Los Angeles Journalist of the Year and Best Investigative Reporter by the Los Angeles Press Club. The Wall Street Journal and The Columbia Journalism Review feted Zager's coverage in feature articles. Currently starring on NBC:s “Baking It” and co-hosting a weekly radio show about Israel has afforded her a worldwide audience. Her book, Erin Brockovich and the Beverly Hills Greenscam, released by Pelican Publishing in October 2010, is a cautionary tale about the dangers of ignoring environmental issues within one's community and offers tips and information about how to mitigate health problems. In it she describes the dangers inherent in allowing trial lawyers to police the environment and urges the public to take personal accountability for the health and safety of one's own family and community. The book has been used as a teaching tool in many university law classes. Zager, who graduated with a BA in journalism from Wayne State University, resides in Beverly Hills near her children, Laurie and husband Adam, and son Brad and grandchildren Ben and Sam. She also works freelance as a reporter, blogger, radio show host and writer. She also teaches Journalism part time at California State University Los Angeles. Currently co-hosting a weekly radio show about Israel and the Middle East has afforded her a world-wide audience. She remains a welcome guest on local, national and international radio, and is invited to speaking engagements across the country. Join us for a discussion of white supremacy, the human rights crisis, and public policy in the twenty years since 9/11. The Institute for Policy Studies, Haymarket Books, and the Center for Constitutional Rights present “Grasping at the Root: White Supremacy and the so-called “War on Terror”, the second event of a 4-part series marking the 20th anniversary of 9/11. The conversation with scholars, lawyers and journalists is an invitation to reflect and interrogate the pillars of white supremacy upon which the U.S. constructed the last twenty years of policy. The post-9/11 human rights crisis is but the latest chapter in over half a millennium of colonialism, capitalism and war. Only in situating today's injustices within a history of U.S. domination, exceptionalism and impunity, can we begin to chart a new future rooted in accountability, solidarity and interdependence. Tina Griffin went from baling hay and milking cows on a dairy farm in Wisconsin to working as an actress in Hollywood. At the age of 20, she drove 2,000 miles west and enrolled at California State University – Los Angeles to pursue a film and TV broadcasting degree and start her acting career.  Today, Tina's mission is to educate and equip parents and teens on how to safely navigate today's pop culture chaos and to challenge this generation to live counter-culturally to what critic's claim is “harmless entertainment.” Tina's show, Hollywood Exposed, exposes the real agenda behind the entertainment industry.  By design, Hollywood conditions our children to engage in drug and alcohol abuse, meaningless sex, debauchery, and even criminal behavior without any consideration for the consequences.  This leads our kids to minds corrupted by hatred, greed, and envy, and plagued by depression, loneliness, and a deep sense of nihilism.  To boot, Hollywood wants to condition our children to leave the faith and accept political agendas that fly in the face of a biblical worldview. It's unavoidable: Hollywood, the music industry, and Big Tech all contribute to the culture of death.  Download the Counter Culture Mom app or go to CounterCultureMom.com for help on guiding your child through today's perilous multimedia landscape. In the History of the Peloponnesian War, Thucydides provides a vivid description of the physical and social toll that a terrible plague took on Athens, a year or so into its war with Sparta. Beautifully written, with incredible candor, on race, class, drugs, sexuality, and quite literally having the fire underneath you drive your deepest desires into reality. Carla Rachel Sameth is both brave and relatable in her struggles, and ultimately, a guest who will leave you feeling like we can overcome adversity to both give and receive love. While escaping from a burning boat, Carla realizes that if she died, her one regret would be not having children. She overcomes miscarriages to finally give birth to a son. Motherhood’s usual struggles are then complicated by identity, community, and the challenges of creating a blended family. The overarching theme of these loosely woven reflective tales is the storyteller’s dream of the “perfect” family, the pursuit of which hurls her from one crisis to the next, ultimately meeting its greatest challenge in the form of her teenage son’s struggle with drug addiction. Through essays on race, culture, and family, One Day on the Gold Line (July, 2019) tells the story of a lesbian Jewish single mother raising a black son in Los Angeles. A memoir-in-essays, it examines life’s surprising changes that come through choice or circumstance, often seemingly out of nowhere, and sometimes darkly humorous—even as the situations are dire. Carla Rachel Sameth has taught creative writing to incarcerated youth through WriteGirl and teaches at the Los Angeles Writing Project at California State University Los Angeles and with Southern New Hampshire University. Media and entertainment are just two of these vehicles through which our kids interact and form ideas, while our government, the mental health industry, and education are just a few of the “institutions” that actually codify these interactions and ideas. Tina Marie Griffin went from baling hay and milking cows on a dairy farm in Wisconsin to working as an actress in Hollywood. At the age of 20, she drove 2,000 miles west and enrolled at California State University – Los Angeles to pursue a film and TV broadcasting degree and start her acting career. When she isn't traveling and speaking, you will find her busy writing radio spots, blogging, cooking, camping, traveling, homeschooling her 4 munchkins or having a romantic date night with her best friend – husband Luke. Why Parents Need to Educate Themselves About Today's Popular Teen Entertainment I'm seeing more and more that parents don't have a clue about what's going on in pop culture these days. Take Netflix, for example. Just over the past six months, they've put out a slew of inappropriate tv shows geared toward teens. One of these, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, highlights the occult and demonic activities. This is currently one of the most popular shows on Netflix, and our kids are paying attention. Recently, there were a couple of girls in Florida, aged 11 and 12 years old, who were watching these types of programs, and planned to kill 15 people in their school before then killing themselves. What we're seeing is that entertainment is brainwashing our children on how to carry out these heinous crimes. A few other programs kids and teens are watching, that parents may not be aware of, include: Lucifer: In this show, the devil is viewed as the good guy. The viewers feel sorry for him, because God kicked him out of Heaven, and it makes God out to be the bad guy for kicking him out. Anne with an E: This is not your mom's Anne of Green Gables. Recently, the show added five new characters, all of whom are lesbians. Fuller House: Again, not the wholesome we remember. This reboot contains a lot of sex-saturated themes. All the girls have, of course, grown up and are in their 30's. Most of them wear a lot of low cut tops and really short skirts. By episode 13 of the first season, two girls are kissing and two guys are as well. 13 Reasons Why: Cutting and suicide are promoted. Kids have committed suicide themselves after watching this show. Entertainment is having a major influence on religion within the United States as well. I was recently made aware of the fact that witches outnumber Presbyterians in the US, and the religion of Wicca and paganism is growing astronomically. I'm hearing from friends about the number of people joining Wicca, as well as hearing from kids about what is going on within school walls. Parents need to wake up to these issues, and the Counter Culture Mom app is one tool parents can use to fight them. In this app, parents receive weekly notifications about things that are coming out in about 48 hours, what these things entail, and some talking points to cover with their kids to help steer them clear of it. We, as parents, need to help our kids learn the importance of making wise media choices. Believe it or not, several celebrities have themselves admitted to sheltering their kids from the entertainment that Hollywood is putting out. They recognize that it's not appropriate for their kids, so why is it appropriate for ours? There are a lot of positive alternatives to these programs that are available. Counter Culture Mom has created a parent media guide that helps parents do a pop culture purge in their home. Parents can easily get their hands on this resource by texting the word “guide” to the number 444999. He also has helped major businesses (e.g. Sandia National Laboratories and Nestle Purina) and colleges (e.g. California State University Long Beach and California State University Los Angeles) develop Zero Waste Plans. He has helped develop electronic guides on Contracts and Franchises and Managing and Transforming Waste Streams for USEPA. Mr. Liss was the first President of the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council   and now is a GBCI TRUE Zero Waste assessor and instructor.  Mr. Liss is Vice-President of Zero Waste USA and Zero Waste Certifications Committee Chair and a Boardmember of the Zero Waste International Alliance.  Mr. Liss was a founder and past President of the National Recycling Coalition. Mr. Liss is a Certified ZERI System Designer and a SWANA certified Zero Waste Practitioner. He served on Council in his hometown of Loomis, CA and was Mayor in 2010. He has a Master in Public Administration degree from Rutgers University and Bachelor in Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering major) from Tufts University. Gary Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: The process of developing zero waste plans for communities Why sustainability professionals should focus on zero waste Where to focus your zero waste efforts Advice and recommendations for sustainability leaders Gary's Final Five Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? The key for professionals is identifying what are the things that are most achievable in your given business or community for sustainability, and advocate for those. There's lots of paths to addressing climate change and the key is figuring out which ones people embrace in your community. When I was mayor of Loomis, California, I did a green ribbon taskforce and what I focused on was, "What were the things that will save money for the residents, for the businesses and for the town in moving forward with a green initiatives. Because there's so many things that need to be done and can be done, figure out what people will embrace locally and pursue those as your priorities. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? Zero waste businesses are leading the way to zero waste. And communities that recognize zero waste businesses and highlight them and promote them in local media can really generate a lot of enthusiasm for pursuing zero waste as a community. When people hear that zero waste is happening in their own community by major employers, it really gets their attention. It's a really positive message. There's great examples of zero waste businesses on the GBCI.org website, (true.gbci.org), where the TRUE rating system has been applied to certify those businesses as meeting the goals that were adopted by the Zero Waste International Alliance. And so if you go to true.gbci.org/projects, there's about 20 or 30 different case studies there that can highlight great examples of zero waste businesses and promote those locally. And when people ask about zero waste and you tell them about what those businesses are doing, you'll find people are amazed and excited about that. So with all the negative news these days, this is an area that can be a really positive direction that people can work on and achieve in their own communities. What is one book you would recommend sustainability professionals read? I think Zero Waste Solutions by Paul Connett is probably one of the best. It was developed about six or seven years ago, and particularly for zero waste communities, it's a great overview of what needs to be pursued. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? There's a lot of them in terms of where I learn things. EPA does webinars and so does the National Recycling Coalition. There's state recycling conferences like the California Resource Recovery Conference in California. If you go to the NRC website and look up affiliated state recycling organizations, there's links to states all over the country that have the state recycling organizations. The National Resource Recycling conference is excellent for getting information. Trade journals, Resource Recycling and Biocycle are key. There's a lot of listservs out there like Green Yes and NRC members has a Listserv, Zero Waste Communities and Zero Waste Business. Anyone who's interested in getting on listservs could go to my website at garyliss.com and I have a couple of them listed there or email me at gary@garyliss.com. EPA has a wealth of information and Zero Waste USA has a toolkit with different tools that are available at the EPA website. There's one particular section called Managing and Transforming Waste Streams with over a hundred different policy and program examples, actual contracts and ordinances that have been implemented around the country. Are American teens and young adults really that mentally ill, compared to the rest of the world, or could it be that we've needlessly medicated our kids for problems and behaviors that are largely caused by growing up in today's toxic American culture? Tina Marie Griffin went from bailing hay and milking cows on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, to working as an actress in Hollywood. At the age of 20, she headed 200,000 miles west, and enrolled at California State University Los Angeles to pursue a film and tv broadcasting degree to start her acting career. She has, since that time, appeared in numerous Hollywood films and many television programs, including Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Young and the Restless, Beverly Hills 90210, Ally McBeal, Lizzie McGuire, Drake and Josh, and Malcolm in the Middle. For the past 12 years, the former actress and pop culture expert has traveled the globe to reveal how pop culture and media glamorizes harmful behaviors, without showing the consequences. Tina has a husband, Luke, and together they have four children. Why the Entertainment Industry Facilitates a Culture of Mental Illness The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is not a Christian organization, but I was present when Dr. Foltz stated that simply providing a safe place for kids will positively affect the emotional health and behavior in children. These safe spaces are living environments that are free of danger and undue stress - moral, physical, or psychological. Shepherd's Hill Academy is one on those safe spaces. We've seen first hand what consistent guidance, love, and respect from responsible adults, who exemplify godly character, does for a teen. Healthy emotions begin to return to kids who've been previously rebellious, defiant, or diagnosed with psychological and/or emotional disorders. What we've noticed here at Shepherd's Hill, however, is that this healing occurs much faster when you remove the technology abuse, media lies, distorted world view, violent video games, false premises, sexual perversions, etc. This is how 70% of students that come in to Shepherd's Hill on boat loads of medication no longer need it when they leave. It would seem that growing up in America can be hazardous to your health! So why do most parents fail to heed our warning cries for wiser and more biblical protocols when it comes to their kids entertainment habits? It's typically because the parents' entertainment habits are just as bad as their teenager's. Often, we find that parents not only turn a blind eye to their teenager's unhealthy habits, they're partaking in them themselves. We've become a nation of idollators who are addicted to self, entertainment, and pleasure. Smartphones have become a catalyst for our human sin nature, and this is even more amplified when that technology is in the hands of our kids. There is an old saying, “More is caught than taught,” and this is particularly true when kids are observing our behavior and habits as parents. Safe living environments positively affect the behavior in children. Why do parents ignore the warning cries for biblical protocols surrounding their kids' habits? Do parents realize the link between entertainment choices and their child's behavior? The role of lobbyist groups for the entertainment industry in pushing unhealthy behaviors.
