The Department of Veterans Affairs gave its IT workforce a significant pay raise last summer, in the hopes of bringing more private-sector tech professionals into government. More money led to more hires at the VA's Office of Information and Technology. Now the department is counting on the same strategy to recruit and retain human resources employees that'll oversee its health care workforce. The Veterans Health Administration recently approved a Special Salary Rate for HR specialists and HR assistants, resulting in about a 15% pay increase. Eligible employees saw the pay bump go into effect last month. David Perry, VHA's chief officer for workforce management and consulting, said the SSR gives the agency long-term tools to compete for in-demand experts. Learn more about your ad choices. Michael Rosen, chief investment officer at Angeles Investments, says that while he believes the Federal Reserve is done increasing interest rates, it's not yet close to cutting them, and investors will want to lock in good returns for the longer term, so he is starting to lengthen maturities now to protect against reinvestment risk. Rosen notes that he does not currently expect a severe economic downturn in 2024, because he doesn't see the major imbalances or problems that typically cause a recession. Also on the show, Ted Rossman discusses a new Bankrate.com study which shows that holiday tipping -- annual gifts to service workers people see regularly rather than the kind of tipping that happens in restaurants -- is on the rise this season, despite economic conditions which would seem to motivate pullbacks, David Trainer of New Constructs weighs in on energy -- the top sector for stocks right now -- and real estate (the worst) in The Danger Zone, and Peter Tuz, president of Chase Investment Counsel, talks about "growth at a reasonable price" investing in the Market Call.

How ‘chemical vaccines' could offer long-term protection against malaria in endemic areas, and combat the problems of dosing and drug resistance. Transcript Drugs used to prevent and treat malaria are vital tools in the malaria toolkit – but they aren't perfect. When used to prevent malaria, people must remember to take them regularly, or they won't be as effective. And when they're used to treat the disease, the sheer scale of infection – with billions of parasites in the body – makes it likely that some of those parasites will be drug-resistant, leading to treatment failure. But, when you formulate the drugs differently, as nano-particles in a water-based solution, and inject them, like a vaccine, those same drugs can offer effective, long-lasting protection against the disease. This so-called ‘chemical vaccine', based on the antimalarial drug atovaquone, has been shown in mice to effectively stop the infection and subsequently, the onward transmission of the parasites to mosquitoes. The long-term hope is that a single dose of the ‘chemical vaccine' could offer long-term protection against malaria in endemic areas, and help combat the problems of dosing and drug resistance. Source Clinically relevant atovaquone-resistant human malaria parasites fail to transmit by mosquito About The Podcast The Johns Hopkins Malaria Minute podcast is produced by the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute to highlight impactful malaria research and to share it with the global community.

Rob talks about the 'syllabus' they use within Clare GAA, their use of bio-banding at development squad level, the benefits of kids playing multiple sports, reasons for the drop-out and much more. EQTEC PLC (AIM:EQT) CEO David Palumbo and COO Jeffrey Vander Linden speak to Thomas Warner from Proactive London about the recent downward trajectory of the clean technology company's share price. Palumbo starts by acknowledging the challenges, emphasising that the entire board and company employees, many of whom are shareholders, feel the impact personally. He highlights that the downturn isn't unique to EQTEC, with many in their sector facing similar challenges. He explains that the company initiated a strategy in September 2021 to transition from high-risk project development to a focus on technology, innovation, and licensing. However, the equity market's downturn in 2022 forced them to adapt quickly with limited capital. Vander Linden discusses the company's efforts to stabilise revenues, mentioning a shift towards risk-mitigated projects with reliable partners. Both leaders expressed optimism about the company's future, emphasising strategic investments and a focus on reliable revenue streams. They believe that with consistent delivery on their strategy and milestones, the share price will gradually recover. #EQTEC #CleanTechnology #DavidPalumbo #JeffVanderLinden #SharePrice #CompanyStrategy #EquityMarket #Innovation #Licensing #BusinessTransition #RevenueStabilization #StrategicInvestments #MarketRecovery #InterviewHighlights #ProactiveInvestors #Eqtec #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

The shockwave that rocked this nation after the Supreme Court issued the Dobbs decision, holding that the U.S. Constitution does not confer the right to an abortion, continues to reverberate across the nation. An ensuing onslaught of bills passed in state legislatures has restricted or banned abortions in many states. The implications are particularly devastating in marginalized communities where women's sole access to health care is through visits to a gynecologist. The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice champions equitable access to health care and bodily autonomy for Latinas. As executive director Lupe Rodriguez explains, Latinas face many barriers to care, from being on the lowest rung of our nation's wage gap to being overrepresented in jobs lacking health insurance or paid leave. Despite these disparities, a conversation with Lupe is inspiring. She explains how the Poderosa program teaches organizing, skills women use as advocates in state legislatures and on Capitol Hill and in all areas of their lives. The Latina Institute is also a committed partner to other movement building organizations whose central issues may differ but whose communities are connected. This is transformation in action.
We have a truly special episode today as we wrap up the Million Dollar Spirit Business podcast. In our final episode today, I'm coaching Mercedez Vest through something I've coached countless people through: big transitions in your business. More specifically, Mercedez comes to me looking for advice on transitioning from one-off sessions to longer-term, higher-end containers. We discuss the process of scaling a business by moving into a business model that allows you to serve fewer people more deeply at a higher investment point, and the importance of letting go of previous offers and strategies in order to create space for what's coming next. I share how to rearrange things to help you make space for the next offer, and why simplicity is the best approach when you're going through a transition. I hope you'll join Mercedez and me for this final episode as we talk through timeless strategies to grow, scale, and transition in your business. Today we'll talk about: How to grow and scale a business that currently only offers one-off sessions The importance of letting go and creating space for what is coming next Why simplicity is best when you're going through a transition Using testimonials to promote your transition and new offer Thank you so much for listening to this episode of the Million Dollar Spirit Business podcast. I am a homeschooling mother of 3 who also teaches private voice lessons and directs musical theater for students in middle school and high school and I have a very supportive husband in all of that! We enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Colorado! We enjoy camping as well and hiking, paddle boarding and kayaking. Fasting has given me the freedom and the energy to finally truly enjoy these things with my family! I have fasted in the past. It actually helped me to lose weight in the past but I didn't know why or if it was really working because I was also training for a triathlon at the same time, in 2012, after having my 3rd child. I am not an athlete but I was trying to find acceptance in my body and prove that I could do something athletic! Unfortunately, this change didn't last long and I gained my weight back and kept it on for 8 more years! In June of 2020 I was ready for a change! I was tired of being tired and overweight. But I had sworn off diets and did not know what to do. That is when Delay, Don't Deny came into my life through my dear friend. I read that book in one sitting on June 20 and started that day! My first fast was 18 hours and I have been fasting at least 16 hours, but mostly 18-20 hours for 470 fasts now, I am closing in on 500 fasts! I have lost 30 pounds and kept it off! And I keep losing inches! I was in a tight plus sized 18W jean and am now in a regular size 14 jean. And I wore plus sized 1X shirts and now wear a Small or Medium. Sincerely, Carmen Brown News.
