Fabian Alefeld interviews Brandon Brodie, co-founder and CEO of Annihilator Broadheads, about how an Idaho elk hunt and a lost bull sparked a new broadhead concept sketched by Brandon's future partner Micah. They describe turning the 2D sketch into plastic CAD prototypes via Boise State, a makeshift “wind tunnel” test using Instant Pot steam, and early performance goals of flight, penetration, durability, and lethality. Field and improvised tests (steel drum, long-range accuracy, animal kills) plus third-party fluid dynamics modeling suggested Annihilator's design created unusually large high-pressure and low-tension effects. After major supply failures with investment casting and metal injection molding - causing shortages, high scrap rates, and lost dealers - Brodie brought manufacturing in-house, adopting metal laser powder bed fusion, improving repeatability and enabling new geometries like the Katana. “MK Confidential” begins with a man who is actively getting away with murder. John List arrives in Denver and politely applies for a new Social Security card, under a new name. Robert P. Clark. The people of Denver will never suspect that the quiet, fastidious man who drifted into town aboard a train is a wanted fugitive. He finds a Lutheran church in Denver, and meets the lovely Delores Miller, a divorcée who finds Bob Clark faithful and trustworthy. They marry in Maryland, where her parents live, and where John married the wife he would later kill. The image of John List haunts the people of Westfield, and the legend only grows with time. Many on the police force take the case personally; two detectives take it to the TV show, “America's Most Wanted.” After 18 years on the run, even the missing man's face is a mystery — until now. “MK Confidential” finds a fugitive at work, balancing books at an accounting firm in Richmond, Virginia. It's Thursday, June 9, 1989, around midday. Three federal men in suits approach the receptionist's desk and ask to speak with Bob Clark. They search the compliant accountant and ask plainly, “Are you John List?” The man denies it, but his fingerprints say otherwise. After 18 years on the run, the Westfield annihilator is found, and now in custody. The trial of John List begins nearly a year later, in April of 1990. His defense does not dispute that he murdered his wife, mother, and children in 1971 — though List will not use the word “murder” himself. The lawyer claims his religious fervor did not allow him to consider any alternative to saving their souls. Once List decided he could send his family to heaven by shooting them to death, the defense argues, there was no turning back. The leaders who mentored List, under whose teaching he sat on Sunday mornings and taught in Sunday School, take the stand. They demonstrate how the very faith List claims as a fortress is built on shifting sand. The jury will decide his fate. This is Episode 5 of the John List story. “MK Confidential” opens with the words of a killer. John List narrates the morning of Tuesday, November 9, 1971, the day his carefully laid plans to kill each member of his family will become reality. By the end of it, his mother, wife, and three children will all lie dead on the floor of Breeze Knoll. Megyn Kelly steps through the day, piece by piece, as John bookends his day with murder — his wife and mother before breakfast, his children after lunch — and runs through a list of ordinary errands befitting a man about to leave town. He fields two unexpected phone calls and more resistance than he anticipated. He cooks, eats, and cleans up after dinner in the kitchen where he shot his wife. He writes letters detailing their deaths. Then, the next morning, he vanishes. Weeks later, the FBI puts out John List's face across America, on a flier that describes a six-foot, gray-haired accountant, armed and considered very dangerous. Tips come back by the hundreds, with sightings from Oregon to England. Each one turns out to be somebody else. John List, who murdered his entire family and then slept soundly in his stately Victorian house, simply steps out of the known world. This is Episode 3 of the John List story. Tonight's “MK Confidential” begins at the police station in Westfield, New Jersey, in the wee hours of the morning. It is the summer of 1971, and officers have brought in two teenage girls for smoking cigarettes. Both girls' fathers arrive to claim them; one looks like he came straight from bed, and the other sports a coat and tie. John List has come to pick up his daughter, Patricia. He is furious, afraid that she is slipping away from the life and the faith he wants for her. He doesn't tell her to “Go to Hell,” but that she is already going there on her own. Megyn Kelly traces the story of John List back to its beginning, in a cold, small Michigan town off of Lake Huron. From his German Lutheran upbringing to service in the Army to accounting degrees in Ann Arbor, List becomes the forgettable face atop the ever-present coat and tie. He meets and marries Helen and sets out to build the life he thinks he should have, and fails. His failures push him from city to city and state to state, until the Lists reach for a beautiful, dilapidated house on a hill in Westfield. There, his beautiful life falls apart entirely. John List sees his wife succumb to disease, his prospects evaporate, his daughter drift from the church, and his bank account dry up. From there, he decides there is only one way to save his family: to remove their chance to stray further from the life they were meant to live. This is Episode 2 of the John List story. "MK Confidential" opens on December 7th, 1971, as a car turns up a dark driveway in Westfield, New Jersey. A drama teacher named Ed Illiano leaves his headlights pointed at a nineteen-room Victorian mansion called Breeze Knoll. One of his students has shared a secret he cannot shake. Days before she vanished, sixteen-year-old Patricia List said her father was going to kill her and her two brothers. She said it the way a person reports a fact. The drama teacher and a patrolman climb through an unlocked window. The first thing they notice is the smell. The second is the music: Wagner, piped into every room over the home intercom. Behind a drape in the ballroom, a flashlight settles on a child's face. Four bodies lie side by side on Boy Scout sleeping bags, arranged in the shape of a cross. A fifth is upstairs. Everyone who lives here is accounted for, except the father, the accountant who wore a coat and tie to mow his lawn. His name is John List. Megyn Kelly goes inside a town of thirty-three thousand that has not seen a murder in eight years, and inside the family the neighbors thought they knew. Perhaps one of the most surreal (and tragic) parts of 1997 was the time a bunch of children in a band called Hanson went viral with a song called MMMBop while a lesser known, criminally underrated, and FAR SUPERIOR band (with an extremely similar sounding name, consisting of former members of Helmet & Quicksand) called Handsome released their one (and only) album, Handsome, earlier that same year. Unlimited Leaguers we have two exciting episodes with small team-ups this week. Like Green Arrow, hold on tight because we are going to Tartarus and back. "The Balance" has the Greek gods sending Wonder Woman on a mission to save Hades from Felix Faust. Faust has tricked Tala and inhabited the Annihilator. He went to Tartarus to seek revenge on Hades. After chaining Hades up, he spends his time in the library learning all the dark magic from the books. Wonder Woman knows her weapons will not work. She tries to take Hawkgirl's mace. But ends up enlisting Hawkgirl to help. Before entering Tartarus, Diana's mother fully activates Wonder Woman's armor and lasso. The 2 ladies make their way to Faust. They are whisked away by his magic. They free Hades and the three of them take down Faust. "Double Date" has the Huntress trying to take out Steven Mandragora. He was the man who killed her parents when she was young, as she watched from the closet. But Manhunter had set it up as a test and she failed. He kicks her out of the League. Before she goes, she offers to help The Question if he helps her. He knows she can't help him, but he likes her and wants to help. They track down Mandragora. He is in protective custody of the feds along with Green Arrow and Canary. Mandragora tricks the Arrow and Canary to try and hurt him and get thrown out. The feds are then taken down by Mandragora's thugs. He escapes to the docks. Question and Huntress head there but they are being followed by Arrow and Canary. At the docks, Mandragora is waiting for a ship. It holds his son, who was kidnapped and then rescued. Steven and his son were going to escape. He easily takes out Arrow and Question. Canary's cry shockingly barely phases him! Huntress gets the drop on him but can't kill him because of his son. In the end, she traps him until he can be taken away. The episode closes with Question and Huntress becoming a couple. The Justice League is up against Amanda Waller, her council of allies, and Taskforce X (a.k.a. The Suicide Squad) this week. Waller is a planner and wants to protect the world from the League by any means. Batman and the League must examine themselves and their crew carefully. "The Doomsday Sanction" has a confrontation between Batman and Waller that leaves them both shaken. She and her allies are creating means of stopping the League to prevent what happened with the Justice Lords. In this process, they created Doomsday. The Justice Lord's Superman lobotomized Doomsday. But he has regenerated and is set free by Dr. Milo. Doomsday interrupts the League's rescue mission and fights Superman. Batman stops the Kryptonite nuclear bomb and Superman traps Doomsday in lava. The League sends him to the Phantom Zone. Batman is still leery of what the League can do. "Taskforce X" is Waller's Suicide Squad. All the members except for Flag are criminals freed from death row. They are forced into five years of service with an explosive implanted in their heads. Flag, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, the Clock King, and Plastique are tasked with getting abord the Watchtower. Once there, they are to blow the reactor to cause confusion and steal the Annihilator. The Clock King's plan goes well, until the Taskforce reaches the bridge level. Shining Knight, Vigilante, and Atom Smasher put up a fight that slows them down. Martian Manhunter almost has them, until Plastique threatens an unconscious Atom Smasher with a bomb in his mouth. Captain Atom helps but the Taskforce, minus Plastique, escape. They deliver the Annihilator to Waller. Sam and Margaret Kastanis met while playing in a band and were married in 1987. When the children came along, they quit the band to focus on family. Margaret said that even after a decade of marriage, she still often had butterflies in her stomach when she looked at her husband. The couple had three beautiful children: Melissa, 11, Clinton, 9, and Christine, 6. The neighbors described the family as idyllic.Margaret became severely ill with the Epstein-Barr virus and had been out of commission for more than a month. Sam eventually had to take time off from work to stay home with her and the children because she had no energy to care for them.
