Flip the switch, light your candles, and prepare yourself (as best you can) for this first-hand story of terror with the latest interactive production from the Geffen Stayhouse. On Mark: “My own work begins with the primary goal of theatre, which Charles Mee described as “a practice for life." In its most basic sense this means what we witness in the performance space should develop us as persons, and better prepare us for the contradictions abound in life. Bitter sweetness and emotional ambivalence are representative of the human condition and should be represented by the characters we seek on stage. I seek contradiction, irony, hypocrisy, and to unravel how people make decisions. I'm interested in developing performance ideas that heighten the reactivity between performer, audience, and design. To reduce the static nature of projection and media brings it more in line with the liveness of theatre and dance.”

To mark last year's centennial of the birth of the writer and theologian Thomas Merton, the Actors Theater of Louisville has produced a play about him called "The Glory of the World." Merton spent much of his life in a Trappist monastery near Louisville. The play, written by Charles Mee and directed by Les Waters, has now blown its way into the Harvey Theater at BAM. The play is by no means a straightforward biographical drama and, in fact, it's unusual enough that we’ll just let New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood explain. He is the co-creator of the brass and reed section The Uptown Horns and has played on hundreds of albums, performed with pop superstars, produced records, composed for film, and served as musical director for television shows and the theater. In short, his career is quintessentially New York in its breadth and scope. In fact, in 2002 he was nominated for one of the most coveted and prestigious awards in the world of American Theater -- the Drama Desk award for Best Music in a Play, for his work as Music Director of the third play in a trilogy by author Charles Mee entitled True Love. Over the past two years Crispin's own band, Cracked Ice, has become a constantly in-demand party-music unit, performing at night clubs, corporate events, and private affairs in the metro-NYC area, New England, the Caribbean, and beyond. Cracked Ice features several of Crispin's long-time musical compadres -- all studio/touring stars on thier own--who come together to raise the bar for musical entertainment at parties and events. In 2007, look for the debut album release from Cracked Ice, called “Soul Noir”, which features Crispin's original songs and the band's retro/ nuevo soul sound, based on the classic male/female duet format a la Marvin & Tammi, Ike & Tina, Inez & Charlie Foxx, etc. In the past year, Crispin has recorded with the bands Coldplay and the Scissors Sisters (debut/2nd LPs).
