One-Act Play Collections - Book 4, Part 3 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 4 Overview: This collection of twelve one-act dramas features plays by James Allen, John Kendrick Bangs, Gordon Bottomley, Charles Dickens, Lord Dunsany, Susan Glaspell, George Bernard Shaw, August Strindberg, Marion Craig Wentworth, and William Butler Yeats. A one-act play is a play that has only one act and is distinct from plays that occur over several acts. One-act plays may consist of one or more scenes. The 20-40 minute play has emerged as a popular subgenre of the one-act play, especially in writing competitions. One-act plays make up the overwhelming majority of Fringe Festival shows including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The origin of the one-act play may be traced to the very beginning of recorded Western drama: in ancient Greece, Cyclops, a satyr play by Euripides, is an early example. The satyr play was a farcical short work that came after a trilogy of multi-act serious drama plays. A few notable examples of one-act plays emerged before the 19th century including various versions of the Everyman play and works by Moliere and Calderon. One act plays became more common in the 19th century and is now a standard part of repertory theatre and fringe festivals.

Men berättelsernas betydelse överstiger deras historiska fakticitet.

Episode 244 of Talk Media discusses the media coverage following the sudden death of Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond, who in 2014, took our country within touching distance of Independence. Eamonn, joined by Catriona Stewart and David Pratt, have a frank discussion on the media coverage , a look at the horrors taking place in the Middle East and the frankly strange news of Labour pushing weight loss drugs in an attempt to cut back the welfare bill. Recommendations: Eamonn The War Room- doc - Amazon Prime This documentary follows President Clinton's campaign trail and focuses on his aides, James Carville and George Stephanopoulos. Catriona Break Up - : How Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon Went to War - Book Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon's political partnership changed the face of Scotland, bringing the country to within 200,000 votes of independence and holding sway at Holyrood for more than a decade. So how and why has their thirty-year alliance irretrievably broken down? Break-Up tells the inside story of how the once unbreakable unity of the Scottish National Party was ripped apart amid shocking claims of sexual assault. With unrivalled access to both camps and the women who made the allegations, and with rigorously fair-minded reporting, journalists David Clegg and Kieran Andrews go behind the headlines to uncover the truth about this extraordinary episode, in a piece of political history that reads like a thriller. Now fully updated, this is a jaw-dropping tale of inappropriate behaviour in the highest reaches of power, of lies, distrust and alleged conspiracy, with profound implications not only for Salmond and Sturgeon themselves but for Scotland's governing party and the wider independence campaign. David Wild Thing - book Paul Gauguin is chiefly known as the giant of post-Impressionist painting whose bold colours and compositions rocked the Western art world. It is less well known that he was a stockbroker in Paris and that after the 1882 financial crash he struggled to sustain his artistry, and worked as a tarpaulin salesman in Copenhagen, a canal digger in Panama City, and a journalist exposing the injustices of French colonial rule in Tahiti. In Wild Thing, the award-winning biographer Sue Prideaux re-examines the adventurous and complicated life of the artist. She illuminates the people, places and ideas that shaped his vision: his privileged upbringing in Peru and rebellious youth in France; the galvanising energy of the Paris art scene; meeting Mette, the woman who he would marry; formative encounters with Vincent van Gogh and August Strindberg; and the ceaseless draw of French Polynesia. Prideaux conjures Gauguin's visual exuberance, his creative epiphanies, his fierce words and his flaws with acuity and sensitivity. Drawing from a wealth of new material and access to the artist's family, this myth-busting work invites us to see Gauguin anew.

Above the Title: A Colin Farrell Podcast

This week, we're taking a look at Liv Ullman's 2014 adaptation of the August Strindberg play Miss Julie. Starring Colin Farrell alongside an ascendant Jessica Chastain as a servant and mistress engaged in an scandalous flirtation, the film sees Ullman move the location to Northern Ireland and update the narrative with a modern, feminist framing. We get into the psychosexual drama at play and the film's stylistic successes and failures (especially in relation to the more acclaimed 1951 Swedish adaptation), plus we take a look at the long cultural tail of Ingmar Bergman and try to sort through our feelings on Chastain's underwhelming career. Is this the final film in Colin's dark night of the career? Or does his performance here presage the major comeback to come? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Konstexperten Cecilia Berggren tar rygg på tidningsmannen Johan Christian Janzon, a.k.a. Spada skriver fram dem alla men förblir själv osynlig.

My guest today is an American writer for some of the funniest video games yet made. In the nineties he and a friend founded the website Old Man Murray, a satirical online publication that poked fun at video gaming's sacred cows, and established a tone still prevalent across the internet today. The site was read by Gabe Newell, creator of Half-Life, who later hired both writers. At Valve my guest collaborated on a new game in which a vindictive artificial intelligence chastises players as they solve a series of puzzle rooms using a gun that fires warp points. Portal became a smash hit; Stephen Merchant, co-creator of The Office, voiced a character in the sequel. Today my guest continues to work as a semi-retired contractor for Valve. “In defense of games, I want to point out that the writing in plays, including everything by August Strindberg and The Lion King, is 100% pure crap,” he once joked. “So, we're doing better than they are, even though they have the benefit of mostly not being about space marines.” Welcome, Erik Wolpaw.Clips under discussion:Junkit by Tommy Tallarico.EverQuest by Jay Barbeau.GTA3 theme Craig Conner. The Beginning by Shunsuke Kida.Slay the Spire by Clark Aboud. All other music by Simon Parkin. This week, Milton introduces us to the playwright August Strindberg, and how Stella Adler's teaching contributed to the way actors approach his writing. While Chekov and Ibsen signified the beginning of realism, Strindberg marked the beginning of what we think of as the modern theater, deeply exploring the human being's complexity and inner conflict. In this episode, as Milton introduces the Strindberg one-act Playing with Fire, he talks about two defining characteristics of the playwright: class, and the struggle between the sexes.
