For nearly four decades Donavon Frankenreiter has been traveling the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician. With over a dozen albums under his belt, Frankenreiter has worked it on the touring trail worldwide for three decades. He writes a column for Guitar Player Magazine, is endorsed by Gibson guitars, and serves on the board of directors for the National Blues Museum.   In June of 2023, Allman & Frankenreiter released their collaborative EP, Rollers, a 6-song collection, produced by Luther Dickinson of the multiple Grammy-nominated North Mississippi Allstars and mastered by Brad Sarno at Blue Jade Audio, featuring previously released singles “Calling All You Riders” and “See It All” as well as a guest appearance from Maggie Rose on the track “We Belong.” The songs on Rollers serve as the soundtrack for the duo's world-record breaking See It All Tour, where Allman and Frankenreiter set the Official World Record for fastest time to play a concert in each of the 50 states. The execution was brutal, but the rock ‘n' roll recording artists and longtime friends, along with their talented band mates – Matt Grundy (bass), John Lum (drums), David Gomez (percussion, sax), Jackson Stokes (guitar), were successful in breaking the previous record, playing 50 shows in 49 days in the summer of 2023, one of those dates being under the tent at Big Top Chautauqua.   EPISODE CREDITSMichael Perry - Host Phillip Anich - Announcer Keenan McIntyre - Engineer Gina Nagro - Marketing Support FOLLOW BIG TOP CHAUTAUQUA https://www.facebook.com/bigtopchautauqua/ https://www.instagram.com/bigtopchautauqua/ https://www.tiktok.com/@bigtopchautauqua https://twitter.com/BigBlueTent FOLLOW HOST MICHAEL PERRYhttps://sneezingcow.com/ https://www.facebook.com/sneezingcow https://www.instagram.com/sneezingcow/ https://twitter.com/sneezingcow/ 2024 TENT SHOW RADIO SPONSORSAshland Area Chamber of Commerce - https://www.visitashland.com/   Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau - https://www.bayfield.org/   Bayfield County Tourism - https://www.bayfieldcounty.wi.gov/150/Tourism   The Bayfield Inn - https://bayfieldinn.com/   Cable Area Chamber of Commerce - https://www.cable4fun.com/   Kylmala Truss - https://www.kylmalatruss.com/  SPECIAL THANKSWisconsin Public Radio - https://www.wpr.org/

I'm back with more interviews live from Newport Folk for this Part 2 of the 2024 Newport Folk Festival Series on Roadcase. This episode features some of my favorite interviews I've done for Roadcase. There was truly something special that occurred with each of these artists and the result is really spectacular!!  First up is the iconic Donavon Frankenreiter, who is now into his third decade of music, having debuted his first album in 2004. Donavon is at Newport for the first time to celebrate his upcoming album, Get Outta Your Mind. Donavon is a truly unique human and he and I have a great vibe. Ocie Elliot is Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy, and we all sit down on the couch for loads of laughs and great times talking about their music, overall vibe, origin story and simply everything and anything. Jobi Riccio rounds out this episode and it's a blast. Jobi is the 2023 John Prine Fellowship recipient and also the 2024 Luck Reunion Artist on the Rise. She has simply had an amazing year since the last talked to me at last year's Newport Folk, and we really get into it all. This collection of live interviews from Newport are truly epic and are not to be missed!!  Guaranteed you will learn to love all these amazing artists and come back for more!!Index of Artists:Donavon Frankenreiter @ 00:50Ocie Elliot @ 48:31Jobi Riccio @ 1:17:22For more information on Roadcase: https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email:  info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music:  "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

“When you're in that flow, it's the most magical feeling ever,” reflects the noted fine artist and graphic designer Jay Alders. “It feels like the colors are shooting out of my palette, it's just right there, and all I have to do is scoop up a glob of light that's emerging from my palette. If I can have someone look at my paintings and feel some of that, to me that's success.” Jay joins us on the podcast to discuss the collaborative nature of his work, which in addition to his own disarmingly original paintings also includes concert posters and album covers designed for artists such as Slightly Stoopid, 311, Donavon Frankenreiter, Citizen Cope, the Dirty Heads and Echo Movement. He has become well-known throughout the surfing community for his original surf art paintings, as well as for his “live art” performance displays at concerts and music festivals. His work—a blend of “surrealism, cartoon art and surrealism,” according to Forbes—has been presented in galleries across the United States and in Europe and featured at surf exhibitions from the North Shore of Oahu to the Jersey Shore, and he has lately emerged as a pioneer in the digital art space, with a series of dynamic, ocean-inspired NFTs. We're trading in our pens for our paintbrushes with this episode, but Jay's insights into the creative process, and the story of how he's turned his singular gifts into a successful freelance career, offer important takeaways for artists and writers alike.

Inspired at a young age, Zach Churchill has dedicated his life to creating, performing, and sharing music with everyone he meets. His love for all types of musical expression has evolved into a unique sound that reflects his personal tastes and desires. His vocal style is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley's haunting vibrato, Chet Baker's smooth and crisp tone, and Robert Plant's blues roots. A blend of jazz and blues, classic rock, and progressive music has contributed to his major influences as a singer-songwriter and has matured a passion for his own original compositions. As a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter, Zach has had the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as Donavon Frankenreiter, Leon Russell, Billy Idol, and Trevor Hall, and has played showcases, private events, and esteemed music venues throughout the west coast of the U.S., New York City, and the south of France, gaining him a solid fan base at home and abroad. Zach received a "Best Live Band" nomination from the 2014 OC Music Awards and is a regular guest on Laguna Beach's FM station, KX 93.5, and can be found every summer at the Sawdust Art Festival performing amongst talented local artists of all mediums. Confirmation Conversations

Sari and Laura manage to find a way to still have conversations while being quarantined. This week's Bucketlist For Babes is related to last week's B4B: Text an old friend you haven't seen in a while. In Wifeys Weekly Words, the girls talk about healthy friendships -- not putting too much or too little in them. This week's Love, Lust or Lie has been transformed into a For The Boys segment. Laura and Sari talk to the boys about the importance of skincare, that beauty isn't just for girls and the difference of being clean versus being tidy. The songs of the week are The Sound of Sunshine by Michael Franti & Spearhead and Glow by Donavon Frankenreiter. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Their tunes are completely accessible but at the same time, for want of a better word, still unique.Based on the Mid North Coast of NSW, Little King members Joshua McGovern & Chris Boaz have played together under various guises for the best part of 9 years and teamed up to create some unique pseudo-pop-electro-soul vibes. With influences that include Chet Faker, Jordan Rakei, Fat Freddy's Drop, and Drake to name a few, Little King combines their hybrid pop-electro-funk-soul sound with clever melodies and catchy hooks creating a cocktail of musical tastiness.Their foray into the live music scene started in 2015, having been successful in an original song competition, they were selected support Donavon Frankenreiter on one of his east coast shows prior to his appearance at the Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival.Their debut self-titled EP was produced by Alex Gooden, who has previously worked with Evermore, Bluejuice and Megan Washington, at Myrtle Street Studios in Sydney, and released in June on the North Coast, followed by a brief East Coast tour and a two week tour of New Zealand’s South Island, where their music was extremely well received.Between the back-and-forth of touring the East Coast, promoting their EP, of which they are receiving airplay all over the country, surfing and skating, Little King continue to spend their days tucked away in the Hinterland of the Coffs Coast, writing, rehearsing and performing.

Leave Us A Review Matt Grundy plays bass, rhythm guitar, harmonica, and sings backing vocals and for professional surfer turned rock star Donavon Frankenreiter. In this very unfiltered conversation, shares the highs and lows of parenting, the sacrifices that go into building a career in music, and life after being swallowed whole and spit out by addiction. Contrary to popular belief, musicians and artists aren't always hungry for fame. We are fortunate for souls like Matt who really couldn't care less about where he was or how much he was making - all he needs is the music. This interview is a really special one for us.  Not only are we huge fans of Matt but over the past 10-12 years, he has become a dear friend and is someone that we have literally been around the Earth and back with.   Grundy is one of those gentle giants that you cannot help but fall in love with. We always meet in the middle on topics like jazz, poetry, Sam Harris and self-awareness...but realizing that he's also a ridiculous musician on top of the rest is motivating and humbling.   We think that if you asked Grundy he would say he is just along for the ride...but when you hear all he has on his mind and all he is up to, you quickly realize that he is far more than a backup musician. There's just no way. I had to make this happen and I wanted to -- It's not like it was hard, because I had this little angel to take care of and it was amazing.” -Matt Grundy “When you first start playing music, you're lucky to even scrape together 250 bucks a week. For me, I didn't care about the lack of security in it. I was willing to live in my car forever if it meant I was going to be able to play the guitar. It didn't sound like something that was okay -- it sounded favorable to me”. -Matt Grundy Links & Resources: Donavan Frankenreiter Spotify Sam Harris's Waking Up Course App Dan Lebowitz (ALO) Ben Harper Connect with Matt Grundy Instagram Facebook Youtube New Album: Pinon Hills, CA Connect with The Shifting Perceptions Podcast: Shifting Perceptions Website Join Our Mailing List Facebook Instagram Twitter Connect with Jay Alders Jay Alders Website Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube Pinterest Connect with Chelsea Alders & Companies Om Mamas Doulas Website Sun Dreams Productions Website Instagram Chelsea Om Mamas Doulas Sun Dreams Productions Thank you Charlotte's Web CBD for your support on this episode!  Take 10% OFF with Code: ALDERS on JayAlders.com/cbd   * Contains Affiliate Links

The artist for this show is another great musician that I've been trying to feature for some time. If this is your first exposure to Donavon Frankenreiter he is a singer/song writer who's bio reads a lot like Jack Johnson…both professional surfers turned musicians. Not surprisingly the two are long time friends and Donavon's debut album was even released on Jack's Brushfire Records. While this first album had more of a laid back acoustic feel similar to Jack, his albums since have stood apart and even mixed in some 70s inspired funk. The concert I will be playing was recorded at the Greenfield Lake Ampitheater in Wilmington, North Carolina. Here he is, the man, the myth, the mustache… Donavon Frankenreiter - Wilmington, NC - 08/09/09  Song Listing 1) Girl Like You 2) Bend in the Road 3) Sing a Song 4) Free 5) Call Me Papa 6) What'cha Know About 7) Life, Love, and Laughter 8) Your Heart 9) Swing On Down 10) Move By Yourself 11) That's Too Bad Support the artists by buying music and watching them live! This special bonus episode of The Story Behind the Song shakes things up a bit -- let's call it The Story Behind the Festival. Musicians Jim Lindberg of SoCal punk band Pennywise and SoCal native son Donavon Frankenreiter, together with LA music entrepreneur Allen Sanford, join the podcast to talk about their new upcoming music festival BeachLife Ranch.Spinning off of the trio's OG BeachLife event, the fresh fest brings an Americana focus to the same stretch of beach in Redondo Beach on September 16th-18th. Brandi Carlile, Wilco, The Lumineers, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Dierks Bentley, and more are set to play the festival highlighting the ”Cowboy sSurfer Way of Life.” (Tickets are still available here!)Lindberg, Frankenfreiter, and Sanford speak with host Peter Csathy about how these three authentic surf-infused indie dudes started the little festival that could, competing against the big boy corporate festivals. Not only that, they do it their way -- directly on the beaches of LA (which is no small feat by itself!). BeachLife Ranch seeks to redefine the festival experience with a cohesive storyline that flows through the artists, the venue, the food, the drinks, and the merch, creating a consistent overall experience.Listen to this special bonus episode of The Story Behind the Song Festival now, and don't forget to make sure you like, review, and subscribe to The Story Behind the Song wherever you get your podcasts.
