In this episode, we discuss the disturbing and complex history of cannibalism. We explore the use of human body parts in corpse medicine—a practice once considered medicinal. We then dive into the legal questions surrounding the consumption of human flesh, examining the societal and cultural implications of such acts. Shifting to science, we analyze the psychological, biological, and evolutionary aspects of cannibalism, including how man-made conditions, such as famine or social breakdown, can drive individuals to cannibalistic behaviors. We unravel the psychology of wendigo psychosis—the haunting fear of turning into a flesh-eating monster. This episode offers a chilling look at how cannibalism has shaped human history and ethics. The Indieventure crew are back and, once again, everyone's a little bit fried. But like, really out of it this time. The vibes reach a new level of unhinged as we attempt to corral ourselves into a semi-sensible discussion of just a few of the many, many lovely indie games demoed at this month's Steam Next Fest: the thrice-annual celebration of mostly-indie games that aren't quite out yet, but are ready for you to take a good look at. After a quick detour to reminisce about our recent group foray into multiplayer sci-fi horror game Lethal Company, we go in-depth on some of the best things we've played this Next Fest, including Devolver Digital's newly-announced Children of the Sun, as well as Echo Point Nova, Oddsparks: An Automation Adventure, Dead Pets Unleashed, Harold Halibut, Balatro, Roman Sands RE:Build, and Touchstarved. (Rebecca also cheats and wedges in extra shout-outs to Summerhouse and Copycat because she really shouldn't have been handed the keys for this episode.) This week in hyperfixations, Rebecca wants to put in a good word for gay foodie love story Omurice Next Time, recently released on Steam, itch.io, and GOG. Liam tries to starve the oxygen from his twin obsessions with Stardew Valley and Palworld by listening to the latest album by experimental pop duo Let's Eat Grandma and reading independent gaming blog Aftermath. And Rachel has been watching drag queen and Sims YouTuber Juno Birch revisit the best game in the franchise (The Sims 2, don't @ us) to creatively torture some Sims. Finally, we also just want to say a big thank-you to everyone who's rated and reviewed our podcast so far! The amount of support and positivity we've received has been super heartwarming and we're very grateful to all of our lovely listeners. For next time, if you have any questions you'd like us to answer, please do drop us an email or a message on socials, as we're planning a listener mailbag episode in the not-too-distant future.

As an employee, you've got to figure out how to get noticed to move your career ahead and make sure you're getting the interactions and relationships that you need. Sheila Maurice-Grey is a London-based trumpeter, vocalist and visual artist who leads eight-piece afrobeat, soul, funk and jazz collective Kokoroko. Anja Plaschg, AKA Soap&Skin, is an Austrian experimental singer-songwriter. She's released three albums, including From Gas to Solid/You Are My Friend in 2020. You might have heard her music in the TV series Breaking Bad or the film Sicilian Ghost Story, or even seen her on screen acting in the Austrian movie Stillleben. Vinny Neff is the singer and guitarist from British art rock band Django Django. He's fresh from cooking up their fifth album, Off Planet, and they're gearing up to tour this summer. Jenny Hollingworth is one half of ‘sludge pop' group Let's Eat Grandma. Last year they released their third album Two Ribbons, and they also scored the soundtrack for the Netflix series The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself.

Tributes are being paid to the Queen of Rock n Roll, Tina Turner, who has died aged 83 after a long illness. Turner became one of the world's most famous music icons, known for her smash hits What's Love Got to Do With It , We Don't Need Another Hero and The Best. To pay tribute to this music legend, Anita is joined by the music journalist Jacqueline Springer and Dhivya Kate Chetty, the director of When Tina Turner Came to Britain. More than a million people have been displaced over the last five weeks as two men fight for control of Sudan. The United Nation's Population Fund says there's been a 900% increase in reports of gender based violence since the start of the conflict and doctors are reporting a rise in the number of women seeking help after being raped. Anita Rani talks to Nima Elbagir, a Sudanese-born journalist and CNN's Chief International Investigative Correspondent and Dr Attia Abdullah who's a doctor in Khartoum and General Secretary of the Sudan doctors trade union. Helen Hardy grew up in Newcastle loving football, playing it and watching it. At the 2019 Women's World Cup in 2019 she had a lightbulb moment as she looked around the stands and realised all the female fans were wearing men's football shirts, despite clearly being fans of the women's game. She set up Foudy's in 2020, the first retailer dedicated to selling shirts for women's football. The judges for this year's Woman's Hour Power List put her at Number 6 on the list. Cleo Watson served in 10 Downing Street as Theresa May's political adviser then Boris Johnson's co-deputy chief of staff. She joins Anita to talk about her novel, Whips, which follows three young politicos trying to make a life for themselves in Westminster. It's got scandal, sisterhood and a lot of sex! In this very special live episode in partnership with AIM, MPG and Transgressive, John is joined by Let's Eat Grandma's Rosa Walton and producer David Wrench at Signature Brew to talk about how they wrote, recorded and produced the band's third album ‘Two Ribbons'. Taking us back to the album's very beginnings, Rosa and David chart each song's development, from early bedroom demos complete with mumble melodies and simple energy building tricks, to lyrics finished on the day of recording and adding surprising instruments that bring that extra glitter to their music. Discussing the way in which the band's creative process has changed in parallel with their different life experiences, the pair share their thoughts on wanting to take on separate subjects and their methods of unifying them into a singular sonic world. Listen to find out how to approach a breakup song before you've broken up, why sometimes you don't need to worry about microphones and how many chillies were unknowingly consumed in the making of this album. Unfortunately, we had a few technical difficulties with the recording and so the sound quality isn't up to our usual standard, but we hope you enjoy this deep dive into the album nonetheless. Tickets to Tape Notes Live with Let's Eat Grandma and David Wrench - 29th March@Signature Brew In this episode, John heads to Bristol to chat with Yard Act's James, Sam and Ryan along with producer Ali Chant about how their debut album ‘The Overload' was written, recorded and produced. Catching up after a big night on the Bristol stop of their tour, the band reflect on their process of bringing the album together, from solitary lockdown demos and recording over WhatsApp videos, to learning how to play the drums and the last minute additions after the tracks had been mastered. Sharing their experience of transforming what started as a side project into a successful band, we hear stories of giving, receiving and dealing with criticism, the prompts that encouraged several turning points in their writing style and the dangers of overthinking when working on individual parts. Listen to find out how to write vocals that are suitable for the neighbours, why it's important to know the difference between congas and bongos, and what in songwriting is not too dissimilar to drawing a monster. (00:40) Let's Eat Grandma - Happy New Year (05:57) Ibibio Sound Machine - Electricity (10:48) Magdalena Bay - You Lose! Studies show that 70-85% of jobs (especially the good ones) are filled through internal candidates or employees' networks. That's a staggering amount! So to attract higher quality and more frequent job opportunities we need to be well connected and we need others to know what we do and what we care about. While there are many ways to build your network and develop your personal brand, I strongly believe that LinkedIn is one of the most effective ones. And for that reason, I invited Chris Villanueva, founder of a resume and LinkedIn profile writing company, to The Manager Track podcast and I'm excited to share this interview with you today.- RESOURCES MENTIONED -Let's Eat Grandma: www.letseatgrandma.comCareer Warrior Podcast: https://www.letseatgrandma.com/career-warrior-podcast-2Chris' LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chris-villanueva-cprwRamona's LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ramona-shaw
Who would have thought that a book on grammar would be #5 on Amazon's best-seller list? (Should that be "whom" would have thought? Should I write out the number five? Should it be "bestseller?" Ugh. I can't remember if the exclamation goes inside or outside the quotation mark in the sentence I just asked myself.) Benjamin Dreyer says we're all writers. Or, we can channel our best writers if we choose our words more carefully, (try not writing the words very, rather, really, quite, surely, and actually for the next week) check our spelling, and quiet our sudden impulse to use two words where one will do. (Oops. I mean, quiet your impulse to use two words where one will do.) Most of all, break those rules you were taught to obey. Language is about more than grammar. It's about artistry, voice, style. Sentences ending with a preposition shouldn't be hard to put up with. And start your sentence with an "and" or "but." Embrace the fragment. Channel your passive voice. (but only if it makes your sentence stronger) I feel freer already.Support the show: http://www.wnpr.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
