Alice Iguchi, a Tokyo-born DJ now based in Brooklyn, channels a lifetime of cross-cultural influences into her hypnotic, shape-shifting sets. Since arriving in New York in 2015, she has carved out a space in the city's underground house and techno scene, emerging as a quietly distinctive voice. Early encounters with jazz, teenage years playing guitar in Tokyo rock bands, and a deep affinity for the experimental soundscapes of Radiohead and Björk have all left their imprint on her approach. The result is a kaleidoscope of melodies, jazz-inflected rhythms, and organic percussion, woven seamlessly into sets that feel at once atmospheric and propulsive. Whether commanding the decks at the Brooklyn Mirage, Womb in Tokyo, or Berlin's Sisyphos, Iguchi has earned a reputation for transporting dancers into her richly textured sonic world. On this Balance Selections mix, she leans into dense progressive and afro-tech, crafting a moody blend of underground energy. Featuring tracks from Petar Dundov, Giovanny Aparicio, and Art of Sol, it's a kinetic ride with a distinctive organic edge. @aliceiguchi

Avant Gardner, home of The Brooklyn Mirage, is truly one of the most spectacular venues in the world, and the innovation isn't done yet. The boys jump right back into this week's show recapping their weekends that included Josh going to a Renaissance festival in West Virginia, and Dante traveling up to New York City for his first show of the summer. Josh recounts his Ren Fest experience and Dante tells us all about Galantis at the Brooklyn Mirage. Dante has a big announcement for himself and the pod: we officially have a brand ambassadorship! Dante has teamed up with the folks at Huega House to promote their brand. The hats are fantastic and the mantra of the company is an even better one: cherish the little things. It's a company all about enjoying life and Dante is extremely happy to be a part of the team. Use code “Dante” to get 15% off at check out! The boys kick off the sports talk by diving into the summer of Soccer, as the Euros are approaching the knockout stage. Italy had a massive draw against Croatia and Dante is fired up over the Azzurri getting a chance to defend their title. Also, is Garreth Soutgate the English Gregg Berhalter? Speaking of the infamous USMNT head coach, Copa America is officially underway as the USA has won their first match. The boys take a second to address just how special Christian Pulisic is and why we should both be appreciating him more, as well as surrounding him with better talent (and coaching) to capitalize on having one of the best players in the world representing the United States. The Orioles have reached a grueling point in their tough month of June that is taking a toll on them. After taking two of three in the Bronx, they were swept by the Astros and dropped the first two at home against Cleveland. Their pitching has been lackluster which begs the question: when will Mike Elias strike? Heston Kjerstad has been recalled (again) by the Orioles and Dante explains why he should be given everyday opportunities, or moved on from. The Florida Panthers have won the Stanley Cup in extremely exciting fashion. The boys break down how they felt about the game 7 result, the series as a whole, and why this was so big for a number of different individuals. Bleacher Report is talking about Lamar Jackson again and Dante has had enough. To kick off the music talk this week, the boys take a dive into the world of sitcoms. Josh raises the question, “who would be the best EDM artist for a ‘Dave' style show?” and the boys have some takes. No show next week as we're off for the Fourth of July, but we hope you all have the greatest weekend and holiday week of your lives. Be safe and cheers to all of you wonderful humans!

From the opening track of this mix, you know you're in for a ride. 'Dance Dance' is an edit of an old Bollywood classic SAQIB made with Haider Uppal. Its the lush groove sets the tone for a 90-minute dance of deep-fried disco that flirts with main room prog in the most analogue way.

Hailing from Pakistan, the now Brooklyn-based DJ is an ardent student of music, an arc that includes playing heavy metal bands in Lahore on the way to studying electronic music production in New York (Rutgers University, Point Blank Music).

Today, he's signed to labels including Flying Circus and Sol Selectas alongside DJ bookings at Electric Zoo, Cityfox and The Brooklyn Mirage. Upcoming shows include supporting BLOND:ISH at Industry City in NY, which follows his recent Nino Torres remix on his own Beat in Time imprint. All signs, of course, that arc is still rising. Featuring tracks from Maceo Plex, Nick Curly, Piemont, Rigopolar, and more, this is a lively adventure into SAQIB's splendid yet slightly psychedelic world. @saqibmalik

QRTR is an electronic music producer and DJ based in Brooklyn, NY.Brooklyn's Meagan Rodriguez, aka QRTR, learned how to use CDJs in a smoky discotèca an hour before DJing in front of a crowd of dancing Portuguese club-goers. She returned to the same club years later, but this time, she had her own original music to share. Bouncing between high-energy DJ mixes and hypnotic original live sets, QRTR has shared the stage with the likes of Tokimonsta, Tiga, Phantoms, Galantis, and Oliver, to name a few. QRTR has performed at some of New York's most renowned nightclubs, including The Brooklyn Mirage, Output (RIP), Good Room, Elsewhere, and Bossa Nova Civic Club. In 2018, she debuted her live setup while headlining at Brooklyn Bazaar — weaving together an hour-long live journey of remixed original tracks. While her Brooklyn home base will always be número um, QRTR has toured internationally, performing in Portuguese open air clubs and smoky Parisian lounges.  Enjoy x

First High Decibels EDM recap! Marleah and James talk about the Bonobos (with Tourist, J-E-T-S and Catching Flies)show they saw at The Brooklyn Mirage on 8-17-19. Marleah reminds you there’s no need to be aurally jackhammered every goddamn second of an EDM show, encouraging you to sit with and really take in those longer downtempo moments in an experimental set (unless you really, really need the restroom or something). James talks laser shows at Brooklyn Mirage, and how he wore the Giants jersey because one of the DJ duos was called J-E-T-S which had nothing to do with football but, you know, JUST IN CASE. New measles cases continue to decrease as the city's outbreak continues. In the latest data, there have been just 16 new cases reported in June 2019, down from highs in March and April of around 170 new cases per month. Combined with the outbreak in Rockland County, New York State continues to make up the largest percentage of the nationwide total, which, at 1,077 cases, has now surpassed numbers last seen 27 years ago and has become the largest outbreak seen since the disease was declared eliminated in the year 2000. As a comparison, there were only 86 cases of measles reported nationwide in 2016. 50 years ago on June 28, 1969 — Tensions between police and the gay community boil over into a revolt during an overnight raid on the Stonewall Inn — View the full schedule of the WorldPride Festival during June and plan for the Pride parade, coming up on June 30th. No new information on the Midtown helicopter crash as the NTSB continues their investigation, but the incident has stoked local officials to criticize the conditions that led to the crash: Carolyn Maloney, the Congressmember who represents the district where the helicopter came down renewed her calls for private transit and tourism helicopter flights to be banned over the city. After a deadly helicopter crash atop the Pan Am building helipad in 1977, flights to helipads in Manhattan were banned, but no new restrictions have been put in place despite multiple deadly crashes around Manhattan by helicopters and small planes. In a statement on Representative Maloney's web site, she says: "We cannot rely on good fortune to protect people on the ground. It is past time for the FAA to ban unnecessary helicopters from the skies over our densely packed urban city. The risks to New Yorkers are just too high." Senator Chuck Schumer also called on the FAA to require helicopters be equipped with flight data recorders, and cited years of recommendations from the NTSB that the FAA should mandate flight data and cockpit voice recorders. Schumer noted how the lack of flight data will now impede the investigation. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand added: "After last week's helicopter crash in midtown, the FAA should immediately reconsider the recommendations federal transportation safety investigators have urged since 2011 and take steps now to implement these basic safety features. Flight data recorders provide critical information to help prevent future crashes, and I urge the FAA to act quickly to ensure black boxes are in every helicopter." A memorial service was held for the helicopter pilot, Tim McCormack, in Poughkeepsie, NY. This week finally brought the sad confirmation that a swimmer has been found dead after going missing during a race in the Hudson River. Renowned AIDS researcher, Charles van der Horst, had been competing in the Eight Bridges Hudson River Swim, a 120-mile, week-long competition that was scheduled from June 8th to June 15th, with swimmers covering about 17 miles per day between Hudson River bridges. On Friday, June 14th, Charles had disappeared beneath the water near the George Washington Bridge and did not resurface. His disappearance occured at the end of that day's swim, which had begun 15.7 miles away at the Tappan Zee Bridge. The Coast Guard and NYPD boats began searching immediately, but it wasn't until four days later that his body was discovered near Fort Tyron, north of the GWB. In a statement from the van der Horst family, Charles is described as living life to the fullest and will be remembered for his work in social justice and in the medical field. He immigrated to the United States as an infant from the Netherlands, and was the son of a Holocaust survivor. As a professor of medicine, he provided care to HIV/AIDS patients, contributed meaningful research concerning the diseases, and volunteered at a free clinic after his retirement. When Charles disappeared, he was under the watch of safety crew in kayaks following each swimmer, and another participant describes the extreme care taken to ensure the safety of each swimmer, so it was unclear how this tragedy took place. Last week I told you about the very first roller coaster that was modeled after a mine cart, but 92 years ago on June 26, 1927, The Coney Island Cyclone wooden roller coaster opens to the public A baby doll wearing a "Crawling Dead" t-shirt was realistic enough to be officially pronounced dead by first responders after an early-morning 911 call on June 18th. A jogger spotted the horrifying scene of a baby lying face-down in the grass at 215th Street and 35th Avenue in Bayside, Queens and police quickly arrived to seal off a crime scene. It wasn't until hours later that officials announced it was actually realistic doll that they had earlier pronounced dead without physically inspecting it. In a statement, the FDNY described the doll as having "discoloration consistent with signs of prolonged death" as it was painted gray and blue to simulate loss of oxygen. Once the doll was physically inspected, the ruse became known, and the doll was found wearing a shirt that said "Crawling Dead", presumably a play on the classic horror film "The Walking Dead". The police have opened an investigation into who placed the doll and if it was intended as a prank. You may be able to get legal bike boost soon now that lawmakers have voted to legalize electric bikes and scooters statewide. Having just released his debut album, Patlac is a name you should expect to hear more of. The Hamburg-based DJ, is also an incredibly talented producer and acclaimed remixer who creates nothing but stunningly beautiful soundscapes that we just can’t get enough of. An official resident of the famous Berlin Watergate nightclub since 2015, Patlac has been on our radar for some time now. His set at last year’s Oasis Festival in Marrakech alongside his childhood friend Matthias Meyer was a definite highlight of the boutique event as was his performance at The Brooklyn Mirage in New York this past September. With his sensitive approach to music production and creating special dance floor moments, we really couldn’t think of a better artist to launch our new Antidote series with this Saturday March 24. Lucky for us he also prepared an excellent exclusive mix to get us in the party groove ahead of his show this weekend.
