This is Draw The Line Radio Show with Jacki-E, presenting the best music from female producers and DJs. Helping me Draw The Line this week it's O.P.Groover, a London based DJ & VFX artist. She's DJ'd at various events all over London & Sheffield and been a regular at Glastonbury Festival Cornish Arms & Broke Britain bars the last few years. Earlier this year she made her international debut at Bass Boomtown in Tallinn. Her first track, a collaboration with breaks & dubstep producer agentCopy, called "SubGoesBoom" was released on One7Audio records at the end of July. Her first love is breakbeat but she does likes to mix up genres and her sets are always a journey through all manner of bassy tech house, sassy breakbeats and dirty techno. More recently she has been exploring a more introspective style, away from brash beats, and the mix she's done for us reflects that. Christopher Wilson, aka Riot Ten, exploded into electronic music at the age of 22 with his unique blend of dubstep, trap, and electro. Inking his first deal with DIM MAK Records in early 2017, Riot Ten's music has been supported and co-signed by the likes of DJ Snake, The Chainsmokers, Porter Robinson, Excision, Zed's Dead, Steve Aoki and many more. He has also released music on Interscope, Atlantic, Never Say Die, and Bassrush Records to name a few. Riot Ten's 2016 single "F*ck It" topped the dubstep charts for many consecutive months and became a staple on The Chainsmokers "Memories Do Not Open" tour. This cross-genre success paved the way for "Rail Breaker", his 2017 global smash, to become one of the most recognizable and infamous dubstep songs of the decade. However, the El Paso, Texas native refused to rest on his laurels. Following this success, it was off to the races, officially, and it was only the beginning. Riot Ten put out his debut EP "The Dead" in 2018, which recorded a top 10 debut on the iTunes dance charts and a #1 Beatport top 100 spot. We had the pleasure of interviewing Black Caviar over Zoom video! NYC duo Black Caviar deliver a new single “Been That Ill” feat. NYC rapper G.L.A.M. “Been That Ill” is Black Caviar’s fourth collaborative single with G.L.A.M., following 2018’s “Killa Shit Funk” and 2019’s double single release on Dim Mak Records with “Alright Alright Okay” & “Zonin.” Leading the single with G.LA.M.’s impressive vocal delivery, she lays down a high-energy flow on “Been That Ill,” which is perfectly met with stunning production from Black Caviar. Heavily inspired by New Orleans bounce music fused with playful dance elements, “Been That Ill” has all the necessary ingredients to make waves on the club and festival circuit this summer. “Been That Ill” comes weeks after Black Caviar’s new single “On My Own Masters,'' with the latter track heating up on Spotify playlists worldwide including Dance Rising, Operator, omw, and Friday Cratediggers. Both singles will be part of Black Caviar’s forthcoming EP set to debut soon. Nacolbie Jane p/k/a G.L.A.M is a DJ, producer, songwriter and rapper from the West Coast. A child of music. She was born to legendary Oakland emcee parents, Dangerous Dame (Platinum writer for Too $hort) and her dedicated mother, Platinum selling recording artist, Nic Nac. Widely recognized for their hit singles “Coco” (over 20 million global streams) and Grammy-nominated track “What’s Up Danger” from the Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse soundtrack (over 150 million global streams) Black Caviar have continuously released show-stopping music and have earned over 200 million Spotify streams on their catalogue. In addition to the commercial success of “What’s Up Danger”, the NYC duo released four singles with Republic/Casablanca Records, and produced a hit remix on the soundtrack of the 2019 reboot of Charlie’s Angels. Recently, Black Caviar penned a three single deal with Big Beat records and released the first of these with Do The Damn Thing in November of 2020. Curating remixes for the likes of Lizzo, Tiesto, Jason Derulo, Foster The People & Louis The Child and many more, Black Caviar have also shared the stage with A-list talent at major festivals including Hard Summer, EDC Orlando, Hangout Festival, and Electric Zoo. “It's not going to be perfect, but nothing is perfect. The hardest thing about making music is finishing music.” How does the multi-hyphenate differ from coast to coast? On this episode of Dear Multi-Hyphenate, dj-choreographer-producer-performer, wasn't originally drawn to the word multi-hyphenate or “Renaissance Woman”. But in 2021, Penny Wildman, who also goes by PENNYWILD, resonates with the phrase as she no longer waits for permission to tackle her avenues. Are we in a new era of Artist's Guilt and has it flipped on its head? Where an Artist's Guilt is usually born out of an artist feeling they aren't creating enough… in a response to a pandemic, is it the guilt now is a response to creating too much, especially in a world where so many people are less inspired to create. PennyWild is always finding the balance in, you guessed it, social media - especially TikTok. The app can change lives, but is the Russian Roulette gamble worth it? What does growth actually look like and how can we get from point A to point B. Like PennyWild says, sometimes we are just flying by the seat of our pants. Sometimes it just takes ONE moment to hit us in the “pleasure center” to disenroll from our college courses and switch gears. People may think it's weird, but when we find paths for artistic opportunities - it can create a beautiful orb of work. It may not make sense on paper, but it's a beautiful thing. “Nothing in life is black and white. It's all very nuanced. It's all very complicated and that really checks out with this year.” Penny Wildman is a Music Producer, DJ, Director, and Choreographer living in Los Angeles by way of New York City. She has choreographed/directed for the likes of Zedd, Rich The Kid, Laidback Luke, Enrique Iglesias, Marian Hill, Weird Al, Gucci Mane, amongst others. Theatrical Choreography credits include Ryan Murphy's FEUD: Bette & Joan (FX), ANNIE at The Hollywood Bowl (Associate), Merrily… at The Wallis Theatre (Associate), The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Boston Conservatory, Little Miss Fix-It at PACE University, etc. As PENNYWILD, she has performed at globally renowned music festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, Lightning in a Bottle, BUKU Arts Festival, HARD Summer etc. She released her 1st single on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records, followed by her debut EP on Dome of Doom Records in October 2020. Her sophomore EP will be released Summer 2021. Penny appeared on London's prestigious West End in the iconic Broadway musical West Side Story and toured with the production throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. It all started by watching DJ Q-Bert destroying it on the tables, followed shortly after by Tiesto lighting up a crowd. This was the inspiration needed for what led to an ongoing journey, a purpose, a movement, a lifestyle. This was the beginnings of a young DJ/producer known today as Whyel.Years of hard work and dedication finally paid off when Whyel was contacted by rising superstar DJ Deorro and signed to PandaFunk Records/Crazyness Ent. With the PandaFam behind him, Whyel began to establish a sound and style he could truly call his own. His debut single "Ray Ban" was quickly scooped up and signed to Dim Mak Records, and has since generated mass amounts of support from big names such as Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, Carnage, Dillion Francis, Deorro, and many more. This is only the beginning for Whyel and his future couldn't look more promising. With his signature "Moombah" switch ups and big anthem drops, Whyel keeps his listeners dancing both on and off the dancefloor. From his corky personality to his passion for music, Whyel has all the criteria needed to become the superstar he has always dreamed!
