Sabu Dastagir, born in 1924 in Mysore, India, rose to fame after being discovered as a young mahout and starring in Elephant Boy (1937). His natural screen presence led to major roles in iconic adventure films like The Thief of Bagdad (1940) and Jungle Book (1942), making him Hollywood's first Indian star. During World War II, he served as a decorated tail gunner in the U.S. Army Air Forces, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, his career declined due to typecasting, though he continued acting in films like Song of India (1949). He married Marilyn Cooper, had two children, and settled in the U.S. In 1951, he visited India as a celebrated star but remained primarily in Hollywood. Tragically, he passed away in 1963 at just 39 due to a heart attack. Despite his short life, Sabu's legacy endures as a pioneer for Indian actors in international cinema, with his films remaining classics in adventure storytelling.

On Today's Episode of Hard Factor... Well as Elephant Boy used to ask on Howard Stern, “What do you want me to say?” Uh the United States Capitol building was stormed/raided/breached/invaded by a group of people that were at the Donald Trump rally in Washington D.C. and they did so an hour after he told them to march to the Capitol. He obviously didn’t tell them to invade the Capitol but it was not great from Donald all day as he then didn’t call the National Guard (Pence did) and left a pretty awful pre-recorded message kind of telling the rioters to go home but that he “loved them” and that they were “very special.” These people again were in the fucking Capitol building. All in all about three pipe bombs were found, one woman was killed inside the building via bullet to the chest/neck and everyone in America lost. Having to switch it up to some fun news, a Ted Lassoesque story comes out of Scotland. A small hamster escaped its home and nearly died in sub freezing Scottish weather, but was saved when it crawled onto a human that entered the warmth of an indoor candy shop. Pretty much the opposite of the last story. Cam Faust and Kevin Joiner, two Aussie men from East Point, about 18 kilometres north of Darwin came across a NAKED 40 year-old man who needed to be rescued from crocodile infested waters. Turns out he was a fugitive for armed burglary and had tried to hide out in the bush after popping off an ankle monitor. A new Danish children’s show is following in the footsteps of marquee children's shows like Sesame Street and The Electric Company with a new Claymation program that aims to remove the quote “shame” and “embarrassment” a lot of us feel about our bodies. The show which is called John Dillermand follows the title character as he navigates the world and the challenges that come with a serious body deformity in the form of a gigantic 25 foot penis candy stripped. Ruth Shady, world renowned archaeologist well known for recently discovering the Caral, the oldest known city in the Americas, in Peru, has been rewarded for her find. That reward comes in the form of squatters threatening to kill her, her crew, her lawyers and actually killing her dog by poison. They have also wrecked tombs and mummies at her sites nine times. China arrested pretty much every politician in the Democratic opposition party in Hong Kong on Wednesday morning, so RIP Hong Kong, it’s Communist Dictatorship for them from now on. On Hawaii's Big Island, Kilauea volcano erupted Dec. 20 for the first time in more than two years causing Lava to spew from a fissure in the northwest wall of Halemaʻumaʻu crater and cascaded into the deepest part of the crater, boiling away a water lake, replacing it with a growing lava lake, nearly 600 feet deep 81 year old Sofia Zhukova aka Granny the Ripper a serial killer cannibal who was known to give children in Russia sweets made from the flesh of her murder victims was killed by COVID. Finally COVID did something good. And that’s going to do it for Hard Factor, make sure to HAGFD!

A “monkey girl”, sleepless people (one named David Jones - not our David Jones), water diviners, an author who was a channeled spirit, psychic detectives, and so many more “Strange People”. This collection of stories relayed by Frank Edwards will entertain, will make you wonder, and will sometimes tug at your heart. Perhaps the most heart wrenching story, and the story with the biggest Bowie connection, is that of Joseph Merrick, the so-called Elephant Boy. Bowie played this character beautifully on Broadway in 1980. In subsequent books, Frank Edwards tackled the subject of UFOs. In the 1960s, Bowie went UFO-spotting quite often. With a fondness for “freaks” and the paranormal, Frank Edwards seems a logical author to have made Bowie’s list. On the pod, we're sharing some of the stand out stories from this fun, and strange, read.
This week on a jam packed show... John's standup in Arkansas, Howard's Book, Gary cheats and the Pelican says so. Behind the scenes of Jay Leno's Tonight Show. Fred the "Elephant Boy" reads "Howard Stern Comes Again" and explains why he tried going gay. PLUS why did Walt Disney make the BAD list?
