In this episode of Mindful Creative Podcast, host Radim Malinic speaks with Emily Cohen and her daughter Hunter Vargas of Casa Davka, business consultants for creative professionals. They discuss how creative businesses can evolve and grow, focusing on the critical importance of relationship building over traditional "selling." Emily shares her journey from designer to consultant, while Hunter explains how she naturally found her way to the family business despite initially carving her own path. The conversation explores how creative business owners often struggle with business development, preferring to redesign websites or create marketing materials rather than building the personal relationships that truly drive business growth. Emily and Hunter emphasize that clients choose creative partners primarily because of relationships and trust ("building the love"), not just portfolios or pricing. They challenge common myths in the creative industry, particularly the idea that hiring salespeople is effective (it rarely works) and that business development brings immediate results (it typically takes two years from first meeting to becoming a client). The pair discusses how to help introverted creatives approach relationship building in ways that feel natural and authentic.Key takeaways Creative business owners should position themselves as business people first, designers secondEffective positioning requires identifying unique industry niches, services, and genuine differentiators"Building the love" through authentic relationships is more valuable than traditional sales approachesBusiness development is a daily habit that feeds the business engine continuouslyPatience is crucial - relationship building typically takes two years to convert contacts to clientsPrinciples/founders must do their own relationship building; salespeople rarely succeed in creative businessesCreatives should stop comparing themselves to others and focus on their unique strengthsDesigners should capture and communicate metrics and results, not just creative decisionsBeing ready for change is essential for creative businesses looking to evolveCreative business consultants should practice what they preach in their own business approach Mindful Creative: How to understand and deal with the highs and lows of creative life, career and business Paperback and Kindle > https://amzn.to/4biTwFcFree audiobook (with Audible trial) > https://geni.us/free-audiobookSigned books https://novemberuniverse.co.ukLux Coffee Co. https://luxcoffee.co.uk/ (Use: PODCAST for 15% off)November Universe https://novemberuniverse.co.uk (Use: PODCAST for 10% off)

Joining Jill and Doron on our 28th episode, the tenth of our second season, to tell us her story is British entrepreneur and Israel warrior Emily Cohen. Emily completed her A-Levels at Surbiton High School in Surrey, and thereafter - rather than go to university - chose to start working, in public relations.  She began at the Lynne Franks agency in London, advising mainly showbiz and other celebrity clients.  She then ran Hilton Hotels' London press office, from where she moved to head European PR for the Planet Hollywood restaurants chain.  Next, Emily founded Pout Cosmetics, which Victoria's Secret acquired eight years later.  She then consulted for fellow Carmel alumnus Sir Philip Green, and created a Top Shop cosmetics brand.  17 years ago, she co-founded and acted as creative director of the kids' fashion label Sunuva.  Since October 7, she has come back full circle to her PR roots in support of Israel, focusing on people rather than politics.  She and her husband Roy, an Israeli-American, have been married for twenty years, with two children.  They live in Queens Park, and have a second home in Tel Aviv.   Hear Emily talk about her highly irregular Carmel induction, ‘mansara' living, impersonating MeatLoaf on Purim, her suspension for being the beacon of tuck, ‘Earth, Wind & Fire' 4ever, a very cheeky birthday card, showing Arnold around Tel Aviv, Kylie Minogue's pouty red lip gloss, fielding an unexpected call from Sir Philip Green, and life as an Israel warrior.   Thank you, Emily Cohen, for turning us again to Carmel days!   Personal mentions in this episode: Rabbi Jeremy Rosen (Headmaster) Vera Rosen (Housemistress) Ron Evans (Mathematics) Mary Evans (Mathematics) Anthony Barr Taylor (Biology & Girls' Hockey Coach) Ann Munday (Mathematics) Nigel McLoughlin (School House Master & Rowing Coach) Penny Shield (Housemistress) Marc Katz Trevor Racke Sarah Reichmann (Poodle) Esther Fireman Tamara (Tammy) Lange Denise Stanton Dana Shaul Jonathan Cohen Lior Ehrlich Jimmy Collins Jane Collins Damien Sonning Andrew Sonning Jamie Sonning Philippe Weissberg Marcus Flacks Emma Goldstone Paul Goldin Danny Friedman Danny Rubens Roberto Douer Elie Chodos Andrew Rabin Philip Green Kenny Wax   Feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you liked about this episode, and rate us on your favorite podcast platform

Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that does a great Jack Black impression. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) hangs out solo with Gabby and Emily Cohen of The Butch Boudoir Project to talk about why the 2006 romcom The Holiday Should've Been Gay.  When Gabby realized there was a disappointing lack of butch representation in boudoir photoshoots (and in media in general), she decided right then to change that. This idea grew into the Butch Boudoir Project, an ongoing movement to empower #Butch & #Masculine people across different gender identities, celebrating their #identity, #sexuality, and #visibility. It is so rare for media to show butches in a positive and attractive light and The Butch Boudoir Project aims to change that. The project showcases butch people going about their regular lives, providing affirmation for not only butches but also for the people who are attracted to them. And honestly, what more could a butch lover ask for than a super dykey early aughts Jude Law? There is so little butch representation in movies to this day, but we won't let that stop us from creating our own. The Holiday follows the story of Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet), two tragic-in-love women trapped in their heteronormative lives who decide to shake things up by switching homes. Instead of doing what we all want (ie. falling in love with one another), Amanda and Iris find the absolute dykiest men to fall for. Neither of these women has ever managed to have a successful relationship with a man and we 100% know why. We make our own gay version of the movie by simply gender swapping the male love interests, although we ideally still want to ship Amanda with Iris.  We know one thing for sure, The Holiday Should've Been Gay.  Follow us on Twitter: (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay questions at the end of every episode. And if we continue with business as usual, freight will become the highest-emitting part of the transportation sector by 2050. That's why seven states, led by California, have mandated that an increasing number of zero-emission trucks be sold between now and 2035. What does the road to zero emissions trucking look like?  Guests:  Ray Minjares, Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program Director, International Council on Clean Transportation  Mike Roeth, Executive Director, North American Council for Freight Efficiency Chris Shimoda, Senior Vice President, California Trucking Association Adam Browning, Executive VP, Forum Mobility Rudy Diaz, CEO, Hight Logistics This episode features a freelance piece from Emily Cohen in Wyoming on trucker views on EVs For show notes and related links, visit https://www.climateone.org/audio/road-zero-emissions-trucking Learn more about your ad choices. Even though we miss Joseph, we're glad to have an expert like Jason for our special guest Emily Cohen! Jason and Emily relate about their different experiences with addicted family members, and their very similar experiences with ADHD. Emily has been a therapist and social worker, but says she didn't really find out who she was as a person until she began her recovery journey after years of codependency and PTSD. While both Jason and Emily can talk about their experience with family members who have struggled with addiction, Emily says that sometimes getting sober isn't enough. If you stop doing drugs but don't start working on yourself, you're still going to end up hurting the people around you. So how do you break the cycle? How do you become the version of yourself you haven't even met yet? Finally being in a stable, loving relationship can be a big turning point, but then it's up to you to keep the good going. Tune in to episode 65 of Talksicology for a reality check that will shake you out of your slump, and to hear tips and tricks for how Jason and Emily are working with their ADHD - and over packing for every trip they've ever taken. Facets: Voices of the Mountain Life

At first glance, Wyoming life may seem all about powder and pitches, guns and gear. It's home to North America's apex predators, some of the steepest mountains in the Rockies and lots of opportunities for an adrenaline rush. So, it may come as little surprise that Wyoming's male-to-female ratio is the second-highest in the U.S., after only Alaska. But Wyoming's women have been breaking boundaries ever since the state was the first to grant women the right to vote in 1869. In this episode, KHOL's Emily Cohen speaks to contemporary pioneering women, including the first woman on the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort ski patrol and Wyoming's first Native American woman to run for national office about how they've pushed boundaries in this landscape of extremes.   This episode was made in collaboration with Stio, stewards of the mountain life. A small population of bighorn sheep persits in the Teton range during the winter under impossible conditions–often above 10,000 feet. Play-Based Speech Therapy can open the door to so much interaction. My guest, Emily Cohen, talks about using Play-Based Therapy with her clients and all of the benefits it can provide. Emily Cohen works with families with children as young as 15 months old, coaching the parents. We talk about all the elements of play, interaction, and language and I share some pretty cute anecdotes from my therapy experiences with play. Engagement is such a huge part, and the more they are engaged the more meaningful their learning will be. Imitation and nonverbal imitation can be the start of engaging in play. Emily shares the idea of a mirror “game”,  sitting in front of a mirror practicing making large body movements, and even using hand over hand when needed. Patience, flexibility, and following the child's lead is key when creating an engaging play space for therapy. Kids may not always use or interpret toys or activities in the way we expect things which can make for even more enriching experiences.Stay away from toys that have batteries. When we are interacting with a child and a toy that has all the bells and whistles, moving and making noise, the toy ends up doing the work. Go back to basics and allow the student to use the toy as a prop so that you can truly build new and meaningful interaction.Interaction comes before language, so there are so many opportunities for skills in play even nonverbally. As a speech therapist, Emily coaches parents on playing with their children and working with their kids to find these opportunities. Her advice for parents is to remind them that they are their child's best teacher, every time their child is watching them is an opportunity for learning. What's Inside:Play-Based Speech TherapyFollowing the child's leadOpen-Ended ToysFacilitating social, play, and language interactionInteraction before language
