This week's guest is Mike Roeth, Executive Director of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency or NACFE.  NACFE has been around for over 15 years - originating from a workshop run by the Rocky Mountain Institute in 2009.  Their objective is to drive the development and adoption of efficiency enhancing, environmentally beneficial, and cost-effective technologies, services, and operational practices in the movement of goods across North America.  Mike has been leading NACFE in these efforts pretty much since its inception.  In the conversation, Mike discusses the concept of the “Messy MIddle” - a term that NACFE introduced to the industry.  The Messy Middle is the period between the trucking industry transitioning from a well established and known technology (that would be diesel internal combustion engines) to a future technology (zero emission battery electric vehicles).  Major technology transitions are never simple or clean, and NACFE recognizes this and analyzes how different powertrain technologies (to include Renewable diesel, Biodiesel, Natural Gas, Green Hydrogen, and battery electric) can be employed to bridge this middle ground.   In the podcast, Mike discusses how different trucking operations (payload, duty cycle, required range) are better suited to different powertrain technologies, highlights the challenges and hurdles to the adoption of these powertrain technologies, and outlines the roles that the various stakeholders play.

For twenty plus years, she has traveled the country to lead youth groups, present workshops on  transracial parenting, talking with children about adoption, and various other workshops focusing on adoption. Prior to creating Adoption Mosaic, Astrid worked in both the private and public sectors of various adoption organizations such as the Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center (ORPARC), Holt International and Rocky Mountain Adoption Exchange.Astrid co-authored Adoption in the Movies, which takes the reader on a guided tour of 27 movies and documentaries that are ‘dripping with adoption' which are asking  questions that encourage viewers to engage in ongoing dialogue and discussion. She also developed an innovative, evidence-based, 27-minute training DVD titled, Adoptive Parent Training:Developing Communication Skills. The training demonstrates how adoptive parents can communicate openly and honestly with family, friends and especially children. Astrid is a former member of the board of directors of the North American Council on Adoptable Children, the author of many articles on the subject of adoption and contributed a chapter to the book Parenting as Adoptees. Astrid's personal experiences as an adoptee, a woman of color, and growing up in  a white family and community, fuel her professional path to helping others. Astrid  is aware of the benefit  of post-adoption services for individuals and their families  and seeks to bring these services to the adoption community. Her life-long interest  in adoption is rooted in her own adoption at the age of four from Colombia (along  with her older sister). Astrid has been in reunion with her birth family in Colombia since December 2011. Read about Astrid's journey of searching and finding her birth mother in The Oregonian. When Astrid is not working she loves to spend time with family, friends and  enjoying the adventures of life as the mama of an amazing daughter.Maya Papaya Castro Dabbeni BioMaya has grown up hearing and talking about adoption as a child of an adoptee. She is biracial, Colombian and Italian, as well as trilingual, Italian, Spanish and English. At a young age, Maya was a driving force in finding her maternal birth family. To this day, she is still uncovering connections to her Colombian roots, in addition to exploring how generational trauma and epigenetics affect children of adoptees. The discussion was aimed at showing all the ways these three have done what once might have been unthinkable -- get to, and pass, the 10-miles-per-gallon mark in a Class 8 tractor-trailer hauling freight. They included a man longtime Overdrive readers will well be familiar with -- 2007 Overdrive Trucker of the Year Henry Albert, running independent and as a longtime participant in Freightliner's Run Smart program real-world-testing new truck and diesel technologies built toward boosting efficiencies. Albert was joined by owner-operator Joel Morrow and driver Clark Reed, the latter also part of the longtime Freightliner initiative. The trio fielded questions from Mike Roeth, a leader with the North American Council for Freight Efficiency: http://nacfe.org (As Roeth notes in the podcast, Albert, Morrow and Reed were all part of NACFE's initial Run on Less campaign in 2017 -- find more about that and subsequent Run on Less efforts via https://runonless.com/ ) Questions centered on 10 different areas of fuel-economy improvement possibility, all to show how they add up to hitting that 10-mpg mark. Among what you'll hear about: Aerodynamics, of course, at which owner-operator Henry Albert has certainly excelled. Manufacturers' big strides in engine downspeeding, which yields maintenance dividends in the end for those persnickety emissions systems. Automated manual transmissions to help in the cruise RPM adjustments that come with significant downspeeding. 6x2 configurations, mechanical drag reduction generally, idling, speed, route planning, and much more. Think you can't get there? Think again -- with the right practices, and the right equipment, as these and other operators have shown, it's certainly possible. Thriving Adoptees - Inspiration For Adoptive Parents & Adoptees

For more than 30 years, Rita Soronen has worked on behalf of abused, neglected and vulnerable children, providing leadership for local, state and national efforts, working to improve the juvenile justice and child welfare systems while striving to assure safe and permanent homes for North America's children.Leading the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a national nonprofit public charity, since 2001 and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption-Canada since 2004, Ms. Soronen works to find permanent families for the more than 135,000 waiting children in North America's foster care systems. Under her leadership, the Foundation has significantly increased its grant-making while developing strategic initiatives that act on the urgency of the issue. In 2021, the Foundation dedicated more than $40.9 million to grants and award-winning programs, such as Wendy's Wonderful Kids®, Adoption-Friendly Workplace™ and National Adoption Day. Additionally, through public service announcements, social media campaigns, articles, events, sponsorships and more, the Foundation is building awareness around the growing need for foster care adoption.Under Ms. Soronen's leadership, the Foundation created Wendy's Wonderful Kids in 2004 with seven pilot sites as a platform to engage more partners to transform failing child welfare practices and, most importantly, to aggressively find the right families for children waiting much too long to be adopted. In 2011, a rigorous, five-year national evaluation by Washington, D.C.-based Child Trends revealed that a child referred to the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program is up to three times more likely to be adopted. The three-week demonstration, scheduled to start Sept. 3 in Long Beach, Calif., will assess zero-emission, real-world goods movement. At the same time, NACFE believes this showcase will underscore the need to think of an electric vehicle's range on a charge in the same way as miles per gallon in an internal combustion engine.

Here are two excerpts from her reflections:    “As I've come to read more and pray more with Francis and Clare...Franciscan values are simply gospel values.”   “There's so much that brings us together as a family of faith around our globe and there's so much we have to learn from each other. It's a deepening of our own faith when we step out of our comfort zone into the traditions and the song and the dance and the beauty and the thought of other cultures participation in our faith. Not even just among Catholics. Sometime later this year the first of the GHG 2021 trucks will hit dealer lots. To meet the first round of GHG reduction targets, these trucks will be fitted mostly with existing fuel-saving technology; aero devices, low-rolling resistance tires, etc. To meet the 2024 and 2027 targets, truck makers may need to get a bit more aggressive in their use of advanced technologies. HDT's Jim Park and Mike Roeth of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency discuss how truck and engine makers will achieve those goals. As well, Robb Janak of Jacobs Engine Brakes and Joel Morrow, moderator of the 9+ MPG Facebook page share their thoughts on engine cylinder deactivation and advanced engine downspeeding. Today we dive deep into an area that takes a lot of soul searching, but sometimes is necessary to preserve relationships and the family: residential care and group homes. We talk with a caregiver not only on the front lines of parenting an individual with FASD and trauma – but in the midst of the riots in Minnesota: Barb Clark is a Parent Support and Training Specialist with the North American Council on Adoptable Children, FASD Consultant and parent of four adopted children, including one with FASD.Barb and her husband went from trying to teach the FASD out of their daughter:“We thought we were these amazing strict parents.” to “Once the cloud cover of trauma cleared, and the constant fog of trauma was lifted, we were able to have a better relationship with her.”In this podcast we unpack the journey between these two points:How professionals told Barb she was paranoid and how bad advice made things worse; What parenting fails and early strategies she used before becoming FASD and trauma informed; The escalation of behaviour that led to the heart wrenching decision to place her daughter in a residential treatment program and eventually a group home; The initial guilt and grief that turned into a deeper relationship with her daughter, as she thrives in a highly structured and secure environment that is not possible in a family home; andHow her daughter's rage in the car turned into a conversation with another individual on the Spectrum which led to the best article on rages I've ever read. (And we share it with you).“If they are not judging you, you are not parenting these kids right.”You'll definitely want to hear Barb's unique parenting perspective, but also her reflections on:what she wished she would have been told early on about FASD;the most effective intervention and therapy for individuals on the Spectrum; and her best advice for other caregivers and her hope for her daughter's future.Barb not only has a deeply moving story that will be familiar to caregivers, but we talk about how her passion for helping others really shines through in not only her work at NACAC but as an FASD Consultant. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/FASDSUCCESS)

The survey was skewed because they were all dealership people Two of every three visits service visits are to independent shops. (Source October 2019 Fixed Ops Journal) Bill doesn’t want our aftermarket customer to have a service experience form a dealership. He recommends: Let your customer know that you’ll support a recall notice. Keep them away from the dealership, do the legwork for them. Don’t let them feel the poor service of dealerships Don’t let them get talked out of their vehicle to buy a new one Don’t let an aggressive service advisor sell them a ton of work, then you lose Become the place you’ll ever need to go for service, and warranty on your vehicle.   A special thanks to Bill Haas for his contribution to the aftermarket. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points Dealer Pricing Margin is a big factor in your overall profitability You’ve got to mark-up no matter where you buy your parts the parts margin you need to maintain your net operating profit Includes Insurance/Warranty companies. The owner may have to pay a deductible to you Always keep in mind that the customer is the vehicle owner not the Insurance/Warranty Company If our labor rate is set on pure mathematics and the need to generate the right net income then your parts margins cannot be compromised. How much do you charge? Based on where you used to work/work for Can’t have the mindset you charge less you would get more customers and compare pricing to other businesses Value your services Not hitting parts gross profit targets excuses- buying parts from the dealer, source of parts should have no effect on what you’re selling parts for  Should have pricing strategy- buy part for X, sell for Y, profit is Z Never allow an unrelated third party to influence profit strategy- including warranty companies, the vehicle owner is your customer, not the warranty company   A special thanks to Bill Haas for his contribution to the aftermarket. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points Back in the day when R12 rose in price because of a tax, we had a chance to change who purchased refrigerant.  Today the Clean Air Act requires all technicians who work on refrigerant systems who purchase refrigerant R134A and R1234YF in quantities of 2 pounds or more need a certification called ‘Section 609’. MACS hold these certifications Anyone can purchase refrigerant in sizes below 2 pounds. Bill says we missed an opportunity to take this product out of the hands of the consumer. Since we are on the verge of the data issue; ownership, privacy, access.  Will we use this opportunity to be sure the ‘right’ people are qualified to vehicle data? What will the vehicle owner do with their data if they get access to it. Will they have access to repair ADAS systems on their own? Who are the professionals going to be? We could elevate the industry to a new level of professionalism by limiting who gets access to the vehicle data They will need training, skill sets, and equipment to qualify access to vehicle data Consider security professionals and their access to key codes. This template exists to take data access to the right people (definition to be determined) We need to be proactive to be sure this is done correctly. It needs to be supported by the entire industry. Across the board United we can approach the OE’s with a strong plan for data access They may be worried about liability instead of taking all the work to the dealership. They don’t have the capacity to do all the work  The data needs to be safe   A special thanks to Bill Haas for his contribution to the aftermarket. For gay men looking to become dads, the world of adoption sometimes may seem impossible to navigate. There's so much information, so many opinions, stories, and ways to adopt that it may seem overwhelming. In this episode we've tried to lay the groundwork for adoption. A former social service worker, an LGBT specialist in an adoption organization and a gay dad with three different adoption stories had a vibrant discussion with us on the various paths to adoption, on myths, on homophobia – and much more. Download the full, unedited discussion of this episode (53:08) In preparation for this episode, we've searched the internet for common myths among gay men on adoption. Here's what we've found, and what our guests in this episode said about it: Biological parents perceive a gay-dad household as an ‘immoral environment.' - NOT TRUE (IN GENERAL). According to Ethan Cohan, two-time adoptive dad, some bio moms specifically look for gay dads, just because they feel better knowing there will be no other 'mom' but them.Gay men, and especially gay single men, are being pushed down the list of adoption, and wait more time to be matched. - PARTIALLY TRUE. According to Nitara Frost, Parent Support Specialist for LGBTQ Parents at the North American Council on Atoptable Children, there's some evidence that single parent households are being pushed down the list, especially with foster-to-adopt route. Judges prefer reuniting kids with their biological parents over approving gay men as adoptive parents. - TRUE. There's an overall attempt of reunifications with the birth parents as part of the adoption process, mainly to give the bio parents the opportunity to not give up the child, instead of trying to get the child at a later stage. Some adoption agencies are not gay friendly, even if they don't specify it on their websites. - TRUE. Our guests in this episode recommend to check your adoption agency against lists like HRC or ask other gay dads who worked with this agency to make sure they are as gay friendly as they say they are. Some agencies will not indicate that they are not homophobic, but will discriminate against gay dads. Here's what we've found, and what our guests in this episode said about it: Biological parents perceive a gay-dad household as an ‘immoral environment.’ - NOT TRUE (IN GENERAL). Your Learning Curve Never Sounded This Good Emily Sundstrom‘s career in the automotive field started about 13 years.   She was hired to “just” answer phones. It quickly turned into something which she had a passion for.  She enjoys doing it every day. The passion comes from taking a stressful, unexpected situation and turning it into an experience that leaves the customer feeling confident, educated, empowered and respected. She has acquired multiple certifications from ASE, ATI, Wa. State Emissions, Elite Master’s Program, and Ami.  She strives to continue to learn every day. Working with my customers and team at Valley Auto Electric has taught me the importance of customer satisfaction. Watching a customer walk away with a positive an experience, not just a transaction, is how I show there is more to automotive ownership. They have also gained a relationship in the process. Facilitating these relationships is my greatest accomplishment. Bill Haas, AAM, is the owner of Haas performance consulting LLC, with 40 years of experience in the automotive service and repair industry. Clients have access to Bill’s solution based focus, expertise, unique perspectives and in-depth knowledge of the industry. Bill began his career working part-time at a full-service gasoline station in Appleton, Wisconsin. His career includes time as a technician, shop owner, technical trainer and on the staff of the automotive industry’s oldest and largest association representing automotive service and collision repair businesses. While at the association Bill had the opportunity to work with all segments of the industry. His knowledge of the industry has been shared on many occasions as he has been invited to speak at numerous industry events as well as providing testimony at hearings of the US Congress and several state legislatures on important legislation and regulation affecting the automotive industry. Bill received the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) credential from the automotive management institute in 1996 and has been a member of the automotive management institute’s faculty since 2002. Bill is also the business manager for NACAT, the North American Council of Automotive Teachers. His services include business management seminar development and delivery, keynote presentations, business consulting, performance coaching, and strategic planning facilitation. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points: The Service Adviser/Manager has the toughest job in the company. We get ourselves in a trap when customers call for a price. When we fail to convert we blame it on the price shopper. The person who is calling you and asking for price may just need help because they don’t know what else to ask. Change the trigger. Whatever the caller asks for it will trigger a reaction: Give them a price Or tell them why I can’t give them a price. If it is your company policy no one cares that it is your policy. They may not be shopping price. They are shopping for you but price may be the only thing they can ask. Let the ringing phone be your trigger to move you into ‘Make an Appointment’ mode. Never give the caller information that won’t help them make a good decision. If you give price will that help them make a good decision about their car? What do the brakes need? You make bad decisions with bad information Empower them to make their decision based on the information you give. Value story: Let’s get it here and let my team of ASE certified technicians look it over. I want to do it tomorrow morning. Our desired result from the marketing we do to get the phone ring should be to get a vehicle in the bay. Appointments are the goal. Learn to do the right things when the phone rings. We can give a ballpark figure (price). They say I’ll call you back. You have no return on your...

Prior to teaching, he worked as an automotive technician at the local Chevrolet dealership for nine years before opening an independent shop. The desire to help others learn about a career in the automotive field and recognizing the difficulty in finding qualified technicians is what inspired him to become an automotive teacher. Qualifications include an Associate degree in Automotive Technologies, ASE G1 certification, ASE Master Certified Technician, ASE L1 certified, Bachelor degree in Occupational Education, and NC professional teaching license.   Impromptu guest Kyle Holt from S/P2. Listen to Kyle’s previous episodes (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=kyle+holt) .   Key Talking Points: Please stop talking about the need for quality automotive training and get involved. It will be our fault for the lack of young people joining our industry. The schools are there for industry. Superintendents and presidents need to hear from industry. You must get involved with the advisory committee. A good advisory board will make a huge difference in the quality of instruction, investment from the school and placement of students. We have so many jobs in the industry so automotive curriculum course can take the student anywhere. Speak at high school career days and help encourage high school students to enter automotive technology in post-secondary (college) Interest in the automotive starts in the home. We, the industry, must support the counselors. Invite them to your shop. Explain that the technician of the very near future is all about having quality computer skills. If you like cars and computers a career in the automotive is for you. We must develop relationships with education so we can win the share of mind war with education and get the students that have this attitude and like working with their hands and minds Text or write to the instructors and your department chair. Get a group of independent shop owners together and sit with a department chair, school principal or superintendent. Field trips to independent shops. Bring a student to your shop to job shadow. Get involved with the instructors in high school and college. Build a mentoring program in your shop. Not easy to do. Many good programs exist to copy from. Bob’s previous episodes are (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22greenwood%22) . Talking points: You must develop a culture of learning. Conferences like Vision are seeing more members of owners company. More team training. This will help prepare for a transition of ownership. Projections in 2023 there may be 500 million lines of code in the vehicle. We are moving into a new profession where training will become the norm at 100 hours per year. The business model will need to change. We’ve seen the best tech in the shop is the owner. The owner must become the CEO and hire their new best top grade. The approach needs to come from an entrepreneurial mentality. Don’t go into business today because you love to fix cars. You must become a true business person and build a team to solve clients vehicle problems. Specialization may become part of a new business model. Instead of a standalone specialty shop, you can specialize within the shop with specialty technicians. Potentially can have a platform specialist, brake specialist, drivability specialist, etc. Do you have all the tools and information systems? Pay, benefits and training must increase. Labor rates must be dialed in to support this. Competent people need to be paid well and they make companies money. Efficiencies need to improve. When your efficiencies go down your cost per billed hour goes up. When your efficiencies go up your cost per billed hour goes down. Competing for talent. Provide tools and tool allowance. Tuition reimbursement. Retirement programs. Provide your team with resources for financial planning. Find a competitive advantage to embrace and retain your talent. It must be part of your culture. Become the place where people want to work. Profit sharing will become the norm. Tell your story when you started your shop to your people.

During this episode, Sue Badeau and I discuss: ways to build a positive relationship with birth families, how to work with difficult bio families and how to prepare our kids for reunification.  Susan Badeau (Sue) writes and speaks extensively on topics related to children, particularly those with special needs and is a frequent and passionate keynote speaker and workshop leader at state, regional and national conferences.  Sue and her husband, Hector, are the lifetime parents of twenty-two children, two by birth and twenty adopted (three, with terminal illnesses, are now deceased).  They have also served as foster parents for more than 50 children in three states, and as a host family for refugee youth from Sudan, Kosovo and Guatemala.  Recently, their 35th grandchild and fourth great-grandchild were born.  They have won numerous awards for their work, including being recognized by President Clinton with an ?Adoption Excellence? award, and receiving an ?Angels in Adoption? award from Congress ? both of these awards were for their work on behalf of adoption and children in foster care.  The Badeau family children come from many ethnicities and personal backgrounds. Some children were adopted at birth; others were teenagers when they joined the family. Some are from the United States; others are from countries around the world. Some have mental, physical, intellectual, or emotional challenges.  Active in Summit Presbyterian church, Sue and Hector have always found the motivation, strength and guidance for their life and work in their faith, particularly in Matthew 18:5-6, James 1:27,  and Luke 18: 6-7.  In addition to their own children, Hector and Sue have served as surrogate parents for countless neighborhood and church children. Hector was recently named one of West Mt. Airy (Philadelphia) Neighbor's 50 Good Neighbors because of his charitable work in the community and with the youth of the community.  Active in community efforts on behalf of children and families with special needs at many levels, Sue has particular passion and expertise around a number of topic areas, including the impact of trauma on children?s development, the importance of respite and self-care for caregivers and professionals alike, achieving permanence for older adolescents, the importance of the sibling bond, the lifelong value of birth family connections for foster and adopted children.  In addition, she has a strong belief that the multiple systems and the community supports in which children and families become involved ? child welfare, courts, education, mental health, physical health, developmental disabilities, schools, churches, neighborhood organizations,  etc ? must learn to better communicate and collaborate to best serve children and families.   Susan Badeau has a degree in Early Child Development and Elementary Education from Smith College.  She has worked in child-serving fields as a professional for thirty three years working in adoption, foster care, juvenile justice, children?s mental health and education in both public and private agencies.  She has developed curricula on many topics used to prepare professional child welfare staff, adoptive and foster parents, judges, attorneys and youth.  Past positions have included serving as Director of the Cross Systems Integration team within the Knowledge Management department of Casey Family Programs, as a Senior Fellow within the Department of Justice, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Children?s Commission (focused on all aspects of children?s health and well-being in the city of Philadelphia) and as the Deputy Director of the Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care. In addition, she had been a policy consultant for public and private agencies, universities and court systems.  Sue serves on national boards of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC), National Center for Youth in Custody, All Children, All Families, and Justice for Families. Episode 63: Today's Social Work Podcast is a broad overview of current policies and practices associated with adoption in the United States. According to the Evan B. Donaldson Institute, 6 in 10 Americans have had experience with adoption, meaning you, or a family member or close friend was adopted, adopted a child, or put a child up for adoption. Although most Americans have experience with adoption, as you'll hear in today's interview, the world of adoption is incredibly complex. For example, is it ever acceptable to consider the race of a prospective adoptive family when making placement decisions? For example, you're looking to place an African American child. You have three prospective adoptive families - two African American and one White. Assuming all things are equal, could you use race as an exclusionary criterion? What about if the child was White, Latino, or Native American? If you know the answer - congratulations. If not, keep listening. And even if you know the answer, keep listening. My guest, Dr. Ruth McRoy, has been an academician, researcher, practitioner, trainer and lecturer in the field for over 30 years. She is a member of the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) Board and is a Senior Research Fellow and member of the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute Board. In today's conversation, Ruth talks about different kinds of adoptions such as transracial, international, infant placement, and foster care adoption. She talks about the role of the social worker in adoption, from pre-placement to post-placement. She talks about some of the national and international laws that regulate adoption, such as the Multi-Ethnic Placement Act, the Indian Child Welfare Act, and the Hague Convention. We end today's conversation with some resources that you can tap for more information about adoption, including the Evan B. Donaldson Institute, the National Resource Center for Adoption, AdoptUsKids.org, and the North American Counsel on Adoptable Children. One quick word about today's Social Work Podcast: I recorded the interview with my Zoom H2 digital recorder. Ruth and I were sitting in an empty lecture hall at the Oregon Convention Center during the Annual Program Meeting of the Council on Social Work Education. Empty rooms are something of a commodity at conventions and I've done my best to edit out the sounds of people opening and closing the door looking for their own place to get some privacy. And now, without further ado, on to Episode 63 of the Social Work Podcast: Adoption Policy and Practice in the USA: Interview with Ruth McRoy, Ph.D.

Kids. Cable. Learning. The Official Podcast Channel of Cable in the Classroom!

At the 2007 National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), Cable in the Classroom's Senior Director of Education Policy, Douglas Levin, had the opportunity to join Susan Patrick, President and CEO of the North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL), in presenting on the intersection of two emerging educational policy innovations: virtual schooling and 21st century skills.Cable in the Classroom, as the national education foundation of the U.S. cable industry, is a founding board member of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. The Partnership is the leading advocacy organization infusing 21st Century skills into education.NACOL and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills collaborated on a joint position paper released late last year and this presentation [MP3, 38MB] generally follow the outline of that collaboration. The punchline: If we are serious about ensuring that all students master the skills they will need for life, work, and citizenship in the 21st century, the continued expansion of virtual schooling (blended and wholly online) will be required. At the same time, while virtual schools by their very nature foster some of the skills outlined by the Partnership, many will have to become more intentional in their approaches to teaching and assessing the full range of 21st century skills. Those interested in the work of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills might also be interested in perusing the Spring 2006 edition of Cable in the Classroom's Threshold, focused on high school reform and 21st century skills.Technorati tags: n07s689, necc, necc 2007, necc07, virtual schools, online learning, distance education, 21st century skills, P21, cable, CIC, Cable in the Classroom, cableintheclassroom, tv, school, education, NCTA
