TechCentral — In this promoted episode of the podcast, TechCentral talks to Suse country manager Grant Bennett about the enterprise open-source software company’s partnership with SAP and how South African companies are increasingly realising the benefits of moving to cloud services. Bennett talks about the history of Suse, which was founded 27 years ago, and its path to becoming a major player in cloud and enterprise software, including last year’s US$2.5-billion acquisition by EQT Partners and how the company plans to use that capital injection to fuel its growth plans. The conversation then turns to the recent SAP Saphila conference at Sun City and Suse’s relationship with the software giant in deploying SAP Hana in-memory solutions into corporate South Africa. Bennett talks about how South African businesses have begun to embrace cloud computing. A few years ago, the conversations that were taking place were very different, with most companies today actively developing cloud strategies and moving workloads onto cloud platforms, be their on-premise, public or hybrid clouds. What impact will this shift have on corporate IT department, specifically from a skills perspective – will it lead to job losses, how should companies go about reskilling their employees and what does it mean ultimately for enterprise IT? Bennett answers these questions and more in this fascinating discussion. Don’t miss it!

If you don’t know the name Abakar Saidov, you soon will. Because he may have cracked the code on how to build a relationship with the candidates you want to hire. For years, I’ve said that “just in time hiring” stinks. By the time you realize you need to hire someone, and then start, you’re already too late. You need to dig your well before your thirsty. In hiring, that means you need to build relationships with candidates ahead of time. That’s where Abakar comes in. He’s CEO and Co-Founder of London-based Beamery. He’s on a mission to transform recruitment by empowering companies to treat candidates like customers. In fact, he’s helped invent CRM Candidate Relationship Management. It’s like Salesforce.com for Recruitment. Abakar now has over 100 employees & $40 Million in venture funding from Index Ventures, Workday Ventures, EQT Partners, and M12. He’s on a roll. My guest this week is Kirk Arnold, a veteran tech industry CEO, public board member, and lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Kirk was most recently the CEO of Data Intensity, a 650-person global managed services provider of cloud-based data, application and analytics acquired by EQT Partners in 2017. Before that she held roles as the COO of Avid, CEO and President of the then publicly traded billion-dollar service provider, Keane, Inc., and Founder and CEO of NerveWire. Kirk’s also become a kind of tech “CEO Whisperer” over the years, and serves on a range of boards from Ingersoll Rand to Cramer Marketing. She’s a huge supporter of the local innovation ecosystem here in Boston, rounding out her time at MIT with service on the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees of MassTLC, as a Board Member at The Commonwealth Institute, and on the Advisory Committee for the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. Kirk is the embodiment of the servant leader mentality, having started (and succeeded) as the kind sales person genuinely focused on earning her customer’s respect and not just their signature. Our conversation covers that, and a remarkable confluence of philosophies on matters significant and trivial, from what makes for an effective President to why showing up on time and prepared is a habit worth establishing and maintaining throughout your career.

Guest: Steve Goldstein author of "Why Are There Snowblowers in Miami?" Transform Your Business Using the Five Principles of Engagement. As a senior executive for a major department store chain, Steve Goldstein was shocked to find snowblowers for sale at the company’s Miami store. When Goldstein asked a salesman on the floor how long this had been going on he replied, “I’ve been here for 30 years and we’ve been getting them since I’ve been here.” For Goldstein, this one snowblower experience crystallizes all the dysfunction he has seen in business over the course of his career, and it eventually became the inspiration for writing this book. Steven D. Goldstein helps improve companies’ performance through renewed engagement and laser-like focus. He has over thirty-five years of experience working as an operating executive at both global Fortune 500 corporations (including as Chairman and CEO of American Express Bank), midsize companies, as well as advising private equity firms with their portfolio companies. His special talent lies in unleashing companies’ hidden assets, transforming employee and customer engagement, and accelerating the pace of decision-making and change. He currently serves as Chairman of US Auto Sales, as Senior Advisor to Milestone Partners and as an Industrial Advisor to EQT Partners. Goldstein also advises leaders about engagement and performance improvement, and is a sought-after public speaker. Steve earned his MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and lives in New York City More on our guest: stevendgoldstein.com • snowblowersinmiami.com @stevendgoldstein More on the Host Dov Baron: http://FullMontyLeadership.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
