This week neither of us was feeling great, but we didn't let that stop us and soldiered on to make sure that we got you a show no matter what! Ford said this week that they have no plans to return to F1, which one of us thinks is actually a bigger deal than the other. We look at where Esteban Gutierrez may have blown it last season. It's looking more likely that Paddy Lowe will be returning to Williams, and will also own a stake in the team. Ferrari wrote another letter. McLaren is renaming their 2017 car, and Renault wants to have a relationship with Nico Hulkenberg...

This week we discover that it's easier for us to create a downloadable calendar for the F1 season if FOM posts the details about the race weekends. But when that happens we'll get everything posted. Honda confirms that they're rethinking the design of their 2017 engine, and McLaren says that would be disappointed with anything less than fourth. Renault is trying a new ERS design for 2017. Pirelli expects the tires to be more durable in 2017 - but is concerned that sandbagging at winter testing will make it harder for them determine how the tires will perform after the season starts. Esteban Gutierrez says that he'll be driving in Formula E in 2017, although nobody seems to know where. Jacques Villeneuve says that modern drivers have no respect and DRS and the fans have ruined F1. Sir Sterling Moss is recovering from an illness in Singapore. We speculate on Donnington's statement that they won't make a bid for the British Grand Prix if Silverstone drops the event, followed by word that Jonathan Palmer's company is taking over Donnington. Liberty's purchase of FOM moves a little further. And Manor is still on life support...

Kimi Raikkonen Finally Wins Something

Kimi Raikkonen finally won something - the ‘Driver of the Day’ in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Did Max Verstappen's fans vote for him as a 'thank you' gesture for not overtaking their driver again? And of course, we applaud Lewis Hamilton’s perfect race start - one that took him nearly 10 races to master. Not to forget, his ‘international hand gesture’ to a lesser known Esteban Gutierrez. Nico Rosberg’s third (or fourth?) consecutive date with the FIA Stewards? Did they pull him up three hours after qualifying because they didn’t have better Saturday night plans? We tell why it is brave of Mercedes and Nico Rosberg to extend their contract by two full seasons. Pascal Wehrlein might not be the only one; the news of their extension has upset a hopeful Pastor Maldonado too. Max Verstappen vs. Kimi Raikkonen, yet again. Martin Brundle termed Verstappen’s defence against Raikkonen as ‘junior formulae’ like. Then we wonder why watch Formula 1 if ‘junior formulae’ racing can be this much fun! Also, Formula 1’s ticket sales grew 6% in 2015. That’s also the year Max Verstappen started racing - just saying! P7 and applaud for Fernando Alonso’s consistency. Are Mclaren-Honda the best of the rest really? Anyway, who will have the last laugh - Alonso or Vettel? They’ve differed in their bets on Ferrari being THE team to beat Mercedes in the near future. Ferrari’s desperation in wanting to win in Formula 1 shows in their approaching Ross Brawn. We’d love to see them reunite and re-work their magic, but it seems highly unlikely. And will Williams sign Red Bull Racing’s to-be-fired Daniil Kvyat? It seems that the FIA tend to get more ridiculous each time we point our their ridiculousness. So its best we leave aside the recent ‘radio rules’ clarification, much like we did so to the ‘elimination based’ qualifying format or the double points system. Our heart goes out to Bernie Ecclestone’s family in the wake of the news of his mother-in-law (who is by the way younger than him) being kidnapped in Brazil. We try and wonder who these kidnappers could be - on a lighter note only. Nico Rosberg and Mercedes’ home is the upcoming German Grand Prix. While they will win, will he? We’ve got the second half of the season ahead of us and all to play for. Game on! (Season 2016, Episode 25) The Inside Line F1 Podcast is hosted by Mithila Mehta and Kunal Shah. I know, shocking right? Okay, small couple of disclaimers here. First of all, the good news, I’ve removed the echoing! The bad news is, I’ve replaced it with popping! Yeah, my two main microphones are currently broken-ish. So, sadly, it’s either extreme echo, or occasional popping. Not ideal, and I apologize for that, but I think the popping is the lesser of two evils. It’ll be resolved very soon, I promise. Also, this episode is slightly shorter, at about 50 minutes as opposed to the normal hour and a half or so. Reason being, is my lovely University mentor, Miss Sue Bowerman, said that the length might be a little long and it could be hard for listeners to digest, so I thought, “Heck, we’re still young, and experimental, why the heck not give it a shot?”, so let me know if you prefer the shorter format or if you’re okay with going long, and let me know what you all think, it really, REALLY helps. Thanks! In this episode, me and Ryan King (@RyanErikKing) we talk about McLaren! Don’t all look surprised, we had to keep the tradition going, right? They finally revealed their driver line-up for 2015 and surprise, surprise, Fernando Alonso is official, or as I like to call it “The worst kept secret in Formula 1 history!” But alongside, in a change of heart (And probably a saved £4m a year), Jenson Button kept his seat as well, meaning McLaren now have the oldest and most experienced team in Formula 1. But what does that mean for the young blood in Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne? Also, Lewis Hamilton won the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year award. I know, shocker. We talk about the glorifed popularity contest that the award now is, why he beat Rory McIlroy, and the impending “F1 vs Golf” flame war that has taken place, in what I call the “Alien vs Predator” of sporting feuds, because whoever wins, we lose. We also tie it back to the issue of tax avoidance and Hamilton living overseas, along with Marc Marquez, who may have gotten caught out by the Spanish people for moving to the Andorra tax haven, and not paying enough back home, apparently. YOU MADE THE NICEST MAN IN THE WORLD CRY, HOW COULD YOU SPAIN?! And finally, we talk about Esteban Gutierrez joining Ferrari as a test driver, and the Formula E round from Uruguay, and how Jean-Eric Vergne just can’t catch a break, and why Matthew Brabham will now be meme’d to all eternity. And all that in 50 minutes?! Talk about value. Enjoy!

I think you can guess why we named this episode how we did. We kept the Bianchi talk brief, and the reason why, is because I hate being sad. Me and Ryan are passionate fans and aspiring journalists sure, but we also enjoy what we do, and we love having a laugh while talking some Motorsport, and that’s what we’ve done for 22 episodes now. I hope you all can understand that when listening. Cheers! In the meantime, we probably treated this episode like Justin Gatlin does when he sees a drug testing van. We sped through a heap of topics, so lemme give you a rundown: NEWS: – Obviously, the passing of Jules Bianchi – Haas revealing their interest of Esteban Gutierrez, Jean-Eric Vergne, Nico Hulkenberg and just about anyone who’s currently in F1, while we debate who should get that Ferrari seat between Bottas and Hulkenberg. – Jenson Button rumoured to be a new BBC Top Gear host, and the original trio heading to Amazon Prime – Carmen Jorda and Michèle Mouton going to war, and why we actually are taking Carmen Jorda’s side on this. Seriously. – The Hungarian Grand Prix, Vettel reaching 41 Career Wins first, over Hamilton, Mercedes terrible day at the office, both controversial Daniel Ricciardo incidents, and why we condemned Autosport and Sky Sports’ ratings in protection of Lewis Hamilton. Again. INDYCAR: – Derrick Walker resigning as President of Operations – A review of Milwaukee as Sebastian Bourdais pulled off a stunner, and Paul Tracy complimented his improved oval skills. Am I high? – A review of Iowa, as Ryan Hunter-Reay remembered he was Ryan Hunter-Reay, as American take their first clean sweep of the podium since the 2006 Indy 500. And we nearly had Ed Carpenter fight Sage Karam. That was fun. – Article 9.2.8, meaning IndyCar drivers can’t badmouth the series anymore without getting fined. Because that’ll change everything! Enjoy the show folks! http://www.henrysurteesfoundation.com MUSIC: “Slipstream” – Isamu Ohira (Gran Turismo 3 Soundtrack) “Just a Day” – Feeder
