After the fairly restrained Japanese Grand Prix we needed a bit of a plate cleanser and that's exactly what Bahrain served up to us for out 2nd race in the Gulf this season. A dominant win for McLaren's Oscar Piastri , but eith more FIA based chaos hiding beneath the surface. This week on the podcast we look at the Bahrain Grand Prix which saw a huge number of technical gremlins strike several teams, and some very strange and late calls from the stewards, which ened up ahving a negative effect on a few driver's races. It all kicked off on Saturday when Nico Hulkenberg's best Q1 lap time was deleted during Q3, but the problem was he'd already taken part in Q2 when it turned out he shouldn't have actually got through, this had a knock on effct on Alex Albon, who should then have made the 2nd session with a car that team principle James Vowles claimed had th pace for Q3.It didn't get much better from there as we had timing failures, George Russell able to open his DRS manually and by mistake (when he wqas trying to use the radio) and who knows what else. As usual there's our team by team review and the expected sheload of tangents! If you want to join in with the chat during the races (along with practice and qualifying) head over to our Discord where there's always a great crowd of people to watch along with. Stuart Codling and Filip Cleeren sit down to review what was a hectic Qualifying day at the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix. Together, they review what was Oscar Piastri's second pole position of the season, and explain how his teammate Lando Norris was so far back in comparison. There's also an explainer as to why Alex Albon was denied a chance to run in Q2 because of a track limits violation by Nico Hulkenberg, and why both Mercedes were demoted a position each due to a strange quirk with an "estimated" restart time. And finally, there's a reaction to a downbeat Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, with the Dutchman claiming he's just "taking part" in the 2025 title fight, and Lewis apologising to his team for what he deemed a poor performance in ninth. The rain delivered another F1 thriller in Melbourne, with McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris crossing the line to win by only 0.8sec from Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli finished P3-P4 for Mercedes and fifth was the excellent Alex Albon (Williams-Mercedes), ahead of Sauber-Ferrari's Nico Hulkenberg and the two, disappointing, Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Sir Lewis Hamilton. The race was strewn with incident, beginning with Racing Bull-Honda's Isaac Hadjar crashing on the formation lap; Alpine-Renault's Jack Doohan losing control on the straight on the opening lap; Carlos Sainz (Williams-Mercedes) spinning into the barriers due to a Safety Car mode glitch; Aston Martin-Mercedes' Fernando Alonso shunting at high speed on intermediate tyres; and Gabriele Bortoleto (Sauber-Ferrari) and Liam Lawson (Red Bull-Honda) going off-course while running slicks in the semi-wet. In addition, McLaren-Mercedes' Oscar Piastri (who seemed set to finish P2) spun luridly onto the grass and both Leclerc and Antonelli survived quick track-surface spins without damage.

We also hear from Carlos Sainz who starts from third, and Nico Hulkenberg and Valtteri Bottas who both had good days.
Alex Kalinauckas and Jonathan Noble review Saturday's Qualifying at the Abu Dhabi GP. McLaren enters Sunday's race as a huge favourite to win the Constructors Championship after locking out the front row, led by Lando Norris' eighth pole position of the season. Jon and Alex break down the potential threats standing in the way between the team and glory, such as Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz starting behind them from Row 2. There's also more heartbreak for Charles Leclerc after a track limits breach knocked him out in Q2, forcing the Monegasque driver to start from the back of the grid post-penalty, a shock elimination for Lewis Hamilton in Q1 after a freak bollard, and Nico Hulkenberg's exceptional performance to qualify in fourth before receiving a three-place grid penalty for overtaking in the pitlane. For the second successive year, the Las Vegas Grand Prix delivered an entertaining race. The cold temperatures and the circuit layout brought Mercedes into play and it was George Russell who maximised his chances - in Qualifying, by clinching pole position, and then winning from pole in the Race. Lewis Hamilton, who made two rare errors in Qualifying, finished second in the race after delivering a solid recovery drive from 10th on the grid. The 2024 Formula 1 season will be remembered in the sport's history. For the first time in history, there are four teams with multiple wins and with 1-2 finishes in the races. And of course, it will be remembered as one of Verstappen's finest Drivers' Championship wins, after all, he's won the title in what is the third fastest car as per the classification. In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Soumil Arora, @f1statsguru and Kunal Shah review the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The entertainment, the stars, the overtakes, the degrading tyres, Ferrari's pace but lack of strategy, the Charles Leclerc-Carlos Sainz love-hate relationship, Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda's points scoring ways, Pierre Gasly's third in Qualifying going up in flames, Aston Martin's no score and more. With Bottas' F1 career hanging in the balance and Zhou facing a tough season end, Sauber is preparing for a transformative era with fresh faces in the driver lineup, including Nico Hulkenberg and rising Brazilian talent Gabriel Bortoleto. As Sauber transitions toward full Audi ownership in 2026, fans can expect big changes, with Audi aiming to bring a competitive edge to the grid. This decision also reintroduces a Brazilian driver to F1 since Felipe Massa, adding new excitement and a nostalgic nod for F1 fans worldwide.Behind the scenes, McLaren's decision to release Bortoleto shows their commitment to fostering young talent, while Bottas may be eyeing a reserve driver position with Mercedes. But can this new lineup and Audi's backing truly revitalize the Sauber team? With Audi's extensive workforce expansion and strategic vision, there's potential – but no guarantees. Mattia Binotto's leadership could play a vital role, setting Sauber on a journey toward a brighter future. We get it. Lando Norris is probably bitter at how his Drivers' Championship challenge is turning out to be. But how could he not identify what a great drive Max Verstappen put in, in the wet weather, to go from P17 at the start to P1 at the finish. Even Verstappen's arch-rival, Lewis Hamilton, doffed his hats off to Max for a mega race. Let's add Fernando Alonso, Charles Leclerc and even Nico Hulkenberg to that list, and mind you, these are stand-out "wet weather" racers in their own right. "It's not talent, just luck" will continue to haunt Norris, we guess, but that's already the quote of the season for us. In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Soumil Arora, @f1statsguru and Kunal Shah dissect Norris' luck in Interlagos, thanks to the various inconsistencies of the FIA. In fact, Norris must consider himself lucky to not get a "sporting penalty" for not following the Race Director's instructions on the "aborted start". Were the FIA too lenient on the McLaren driver? Elsewhere, Ferrari's lack of fight, Haas' no points score, and of course, Alpine's double podium - that's discussed in this hour-long episode, including the multiple crashes seen through the weekend. Btw, what did you think of Lance Stroll's strange "got caught" in the gravel trap moment on the formation lap of the 2024 São Paulo GP? It was the most Lance Stroll thing to do, reckons @f1statsguru. Jonathan Noble and Filip Cleeren react to Practise and Sprint Qualifying on Friday of the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix. Jonathan explains how the predictions of Interlagos' new abrasive resurfacing run true, as thermal degradation and a lack of tyre sets have led to difficulty in controlling the driver's cars. What the drivers weren't expecting though, was the surface of the track becoming very bumpy There was the breaking news drop in the morning of Ollie Bearman coming in at the last minute to replace an ill Kevin Magnussen for the weekend, and the Brit impressed again, outqualifying Nico Hulkenberg and making the final round of Sprint Qualifying. And during SQ3, it was Oscar Piastri who went fastest on his final hotlap attempt in a McLaren 1-2 ahead of teammate Lando Norris. Will McLaren play team orders tomorrow? Ferrari completely tore up expectations whilst Verstappen and Norris clashed again. This is the United States Grand Prix 2024 Winners & Losers Revealed!Climb the ladder with me over on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsFerrari shocked the grid at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, claiming a stunning 1-2 finish with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz leading the charge. In a weekend where many expected Red Bull dominance, Ferrari took full advantage of their pace and strategy, shaking up the Constructors' Championship. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen played it smart, winning the Sprint and securing a solid third-place finish in the main race, extending his lead despite Ferrari's incredible performance. Haas delivered their best North American result since 2018, with Nico Hulkenberg in the points and Kevin Magnussen from Haas showing competitive pace before tire strategy issues cost him a higher finish. On the rookie front, Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto continue to impress, bagging 9th place in just his sixth F1 race, while Alex Albon's struggles raised concerns about his future performance. Aston Martin, on the other hand, faced a weekend to forget, with Fernando Alonso unable to lift the team higher than 8th. It had been a long time coming, but after 945 days, Lewis Hamilton returned to winning ways with a thrilling victory at Silverstone and his record-breaking ninth British Grand Prix victory. Jake Boxall-Legge and Haydn Cobb join Bryn Lucas to analyse just how Mercedes triumphed in changeable conditions for their second consecutive victory. Together they break down the differences between Mercedes, McLaren and Max Verstappen's Red Bull, with all three major teams showing their strengths at different periods of the race. There are also questions asked of McLaren's pit wall as Lando Norris was adamant they'd missed another opportunity to close the gap between Red Bull and Ferrari in the constructors. Welcome back to the Track Limits Podcast! Tune in with Henny and Swish as they unpack all the highlights from the recently concluded British Grand Prix. You couldn't write a better script for Lewis Hamilton. After over two years without a win and facing doubts about his future success, especially with his decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari next year, he triumphed in his home race. Battling through all weather conditions, Hamilton won on merit, proving he is still a Grand Prix winner. Love him or hate him, this victory is historic and a fitting tribute to Mercedes' hard work to return to the top of the podium. However, for others, it was a weekend of missed opportunities. McLaren, the favourites coming in, made several strategic errors that cost them a potential P1-P2 finish. Red Bull struggled with balance and pace in all conditions, but Max Verstappen's final stint on hard tires was outstanding, finishing just 1.4 seconds behind Hamilton and beating Norris for P2. As the triple-header concluded, Haas impressed with major upgrades, securing P6 in back-to-back races with Nico Hulkenberg. Few expected Haas to consistently battle for points, but their car looks strong. Conversely, VCARB, a team expected to regularly score points, has fallen back. Checo Perez, in particular, is under pressure, with his recent poor performances sparking rumours of a replacement. This is what F1 should be: six different race winners and a competitive front row in every race. Despite Max's large lead, the season promises thrilling months ahead. With no dominant team, it will come down to drivers' race craft and fine-tuned upgrades. What an emotional win for Lewis Hamilton in front of his home fans at Silverstone! The 2024 British Grand Prix will go down in memory as one of the most-special races in history. Yes, a British driver won the British Grand Prix for the 30th time in history, but what makes it special is that Hamilton won at home, his 9th such victory, with Mercedes - a team he has actually given up on! Also, Hamilton-Mercedes won on merit. They were the quickest car on-track. Hamilton's "wing" choices on Saturday and the track temperatures on Sunday played a vital role in his 104th career win in Formula 1. And of course, Hamilton's impeccable driving in mixed weather conditions, too. It was heartwarming to see the British fans join Hamilton's family in celebrating this win - one that took 56 races to come. Hamilton becomes the first and only driver with over 300 starts to score a race win in Formula 1. In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Soumil Arora, @f1statsguru and Kunal Shah re-live the magical British Grand Prix. Were you also surprised when Red Bull Racing weren't the quickest across the changing track conditions? Also, were you surprised when McLaren decided to "invent" race strategy than stick to the norm? George Russell's retirement, Nico Hulkenberg's mega points score for Haas and several other stories and facts from the 2024 British Grand Prix. Tune in! Why did Lando Norris claim that he should have won the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix? In fact, why did Norris run a different race strategy vs. Max Verstappen, and why was he not too concerned about the Mercedes drivers? Why did George Russell's race attack wear off mid-race? And of course, how did Max Verstappen end up winning a race despite the McLaren being the quicker car yet again? Why has Ferrari lost ground for the second race in succession, and why was Carlos Sainz involved in Turn 1 incidents with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton? Did Mercedes sabotage Russell's race (sarcasm alert!) by putting him on the hard in his final stint while Lewis Hamilton chose the soft? Why was Sergio Perez's 8th place finish lauded by Christian Horner. Fun fact: Perez was the only three-stopping driver who finished in the points What happened to Aston Martin? Fernando Alonso was 17 seconds off Nico Hulkenberg for P11 (lap 58/66), and of course, how did Alpine change their fortunes? Is it the "Flavio Briatore effect" felt at Enstone already?
