An appraisal of Formula E's surprising choice of Homestead as a venue for the tenuously titled Miami E-Prix is picked through after a messy end to a race that saw numerous penalties applied. Pascal Wehrlein had elements of fortune on the way to his first E-Prix win of the season, while teammate Antonio Felix da Costa was one of several drivers to be scuppered by a late red flag for a multi-car shunt at a specially made chicane. The possibility of Wehrlein retaining his title is dug in to, as is the poor early season form of Jaguar, who will lose its team principal James Barclay at season end. A miserable weekend in Florida from the Stellantis powered car is also analysed, as is strong performances from Nico Mueller, Dan Ticktum and Lucas di Grassi, the last of which scored a momentous surprise second place for a reborn Lola. Latest news discussed includes the future of NEOM McLaren, the probable arrival of Opel and some details about a new documentary series which is set to hit the screens next month. The 2024-25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship began with a bang in Sao Paulo with Mitch Evans taking an extraordinary last to first win in his new Jaguar Gen3Evo machine. That was only part of a dramatic landscape to a race that also included two red flags, the last of which was for Pascal Wehrlein's inverted Porsche. The reigning champion emerged unscathed from the wreck after tangling with fellow assumed title rival Nick Cassidy's already damaged Jaguar.Other stellar performances analysed include Taylor Barnard's remarkable third place and Oliver Rowland's strong weekend which was devalued and unrewarded due to team errors and poor reliability. We hear from Rowland and Barnard, as well as Jaguar TCS Racing boss James Barclay who describes some of the trickier moments from another complex and scintillating race.Host Andrew van de Burgt and reporter Sam Smith dive in to the fall-out from a spectacular opener that saw the true return of potent attack mode and an upswing in lap time largely thanks to All-Wheel-Drive and a new tyre compound.Want extra podcast content? It's season review time on this bumper episode of The Race Formula E Podcast as we look back at a wild 2024 campaign featuring eight different winners. For host Andrew van de Burgt, The Race Formula E Correspondent Sam Smith and Formula E's lead commentator Tom Brooks, that means revisiting their forecasts from the start of campaign to reflect on just how accurately they predicted this most unpredictable of series. That's followed by a team-by-team analysis, with a particular focus on Andretti's middling season after its drivers' title success with Jake Dennis in 2023, Oliver Rowland's Nissan heroics and the stark contrast with under-pressure team-mate Sacha Fenestraz's form, and whether Jaguar's teams' title was tinged at all by both its drivers' championship hopefuls being beaten to the crown by Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein. And our review is rounded off with the panel's combined top 10 driver ranking, the contenders for surprise of the season, standout moment and more, plus the latest off-season developments in the Formula E paddock.Want extra podcast content?
Haydon and James are back to build up to a highly anticipated weekend of F1 in Belgium! Also in the headlines; Pascal Wehrlein becomes FE World Champion, Ocon signs for Haas and Haydon hasn't heard of Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The Track Talk Triple-Header is complete! This weekend we watched the conclusion of Formula E season 10, the Hungarian Grand Prix, and Indycar in the streets of Toronto. Of course. Emma tells all about the latter as she was boots on the ground in Toronto chatting with drivers. fans and team members. The Indycar summer break may now be in full swing but that doesn't mean we won't discuss silly season, specifically, whether Theo Pourchaire will remain on the Indycar grid in 2025. Speaking of silly season, Carlos still hasn't decided where he'll be racing, but Haas may no longer be an option... Congratulations to Colton Herta for his win in Toronto, Pascal Wehrlein for his first FE World Championship & McLaren F1 for the most controversial 1-2 in Formula 1 history (probably). Whether you thought Lando or Oscar deserved the win, we'll discuss it all. Follow us on instagram @tracktalk.pod

The 2024 ABB FIA Formula E world championship title fight was blown wide open at the expansive Portland International Raceway as Antonio Felix da Costa scored a remarkable double for Porsche. After scoring zero points in the first three races and having even his position in the Porsche team questioned, da Costa is now an outside bet to become a double Formula E champion in the most unlikely of scenarios. But realistically it's a scrap between Jaguar teammates Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy, as well as da Costa's teammate Pascal Wehrlein. Just 12 points separate them heading in to the final rounds at London ExCeL Arena in two week's time.Cassidy could and should have put the crown to bed in Portland but both Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt analyse how he managed to spin away his chances on the penultimate lap of Saturday's race. The controversial penalty that lost Mitch Evans the win is deep-dived in to, as is the performances of Sunday polesitter Jean-Eric Vergne, Abt miracle maker Nico Mueller and a rejuvenated Robin Frijns from Envision.Want extra podcast content? Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt are joined by motorsport writer and The Race contributor, Alice Holloway, as the business end of the 2024 Formula E season arrives, with talk of the title fight now being a straight scrap between Jaguar's Nick Cassidy and Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein. But neither of them took the wins as the all-electric world championship returned to mainland China for the first time since 2015. It was their respective teammates Mitch Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa that triumphed after well-judged victories in more high-energy target races. The future of da Costa and his at times fraught relationship with Porsche is discussed, as is the likelihood of Jake Dennis now not being able to defend his title and Nissan's Oliver Rowland also losing ground to his rivals. The trials and tribulations of Envision Racing are analysed, as is the future of Stoffel Vandoorne and the likelihood of Silverstone becoming the future home of a UK Formula E round. A typically action-packed Formula E weekend at the energy-bonkers Misano circuit in Italy is debated in this episode with special guest Maserati MSG's Maximilian Guenther. Oliver Rowland and Pascal Wehrlein were the victors but the biggest story of the weekend was Antonio Felix da Costa's bizarre and petty disqualification and the furious exchanges between Porsche and the FIA That is forensically analysed, as is the why Oliver Rowland ran out of energy while starting the last lap handing Wehrlein the win and the championship points lead. Gunther details his races which involved a strong run to third on Saturday, a dust up with Mitch Evans, getting airborne via kerbs and then seeing another points finish on Sunday being taken away for an incident with Jean-Eric Vergne. Hosts Andrew Van de Burgt and Sam Smith also take a wry-eye look at various other flashpoints, decipher the latest paddock news and indulge, for no particular reason at all, in reminiscing randomly about 1980s boxers and the long-forgotten Cagliari F3000 street race. In the 99th edition of the FEZ show, Jack Giordmaina talks to Jack Pickering and Edward Hunter about the events of the season-opening Mexico City E-Prix won by Pascal Wehrlein for Porsche, and whether more could be done to spice up overtaking at what has become a somewhat processional first round of the championship, whilst also looking ahead to this weekend's doubleheader in Saudi Arabia. Also, Ed successfully avoids talking about the geopolitics of the Middle East. We also look ahead to the Diriyah E-Prix.
Welcome back to electric avenue to a Mexico City ePrix that... happened. Seriously, this wasn't a classic but we surprised ourselves by going 50 minutes on an ePrix that had (count em'), THREE on-track overtakes! Pascal Wehrlein would dominate the running, winning comfortably almost lights-to-flag from pole position, ahead of Buemi at Envision and Nick Cassidy's Jaguar debut getting him on the podium in third. But is Mexico responsible for the lack of action, or the cars themselves? We also try to make sense of the pecking order, has enough changed? Is Jaguar and Porsche still on top? Where does ERT fit in alongside DS and Nissan? And finally, we review the first offering of Whisper's production and whether it was a good idea to have Jermaine Jenas anchor a Formula E broadcast (No, god bless him he tried), and whether the show has missed a trick not having one of their other shows featured... All that and more on another Motorsport101!
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Another written article from the Motorsport101.com website and in this narration, Dre brings back the Formula E Race Review from 2022, as Season 10 for the series got underway in Mexico City. But first, Dre talks about the British based changes as TNT Sports becomes the new home for the series in an expensive paywall, and Whisper Films takes over the production, and why both will be disappointing for the home crowd. Then chat over a tame race itself with barely any action to speak of, with Pascal Wehrlein winning a processional affair with Buemi and Cassidy close behind. Dre tries to rank the powertrains and point some other little niggles in the Lightning Round too!
#472 The Sound of Formula E. Gareth and Tycho Jones attend the 2023 London ePrix in Excel, Docklands. We capture the sound of the cars, the crowd reaction and the atmosphere in the Fan Zone and a chat about electrification with Oliver Johnson of ABB.
Sometimes, you just gotta clean your room! We've been a bit behind on Podcasts lately, our bad! So we're doing what we used to do, mix and match some sports and play catch up! We talk a little bit about MotoGP in Italy, a weekend so devoid of news that we couldn't justify a full episode on it with Francesco Bagnaia winning via a Grand Slam in a Ducati Top 4 lockout. Oh and Marc Marquez crashes out from 4th and stares at his bike in dismay. Remember that, it becomes important later... We also talk about Formula E and catchup over the last three races. From Nick Cassidy winning in Monaco in 9th and sending it around the Lowes Hairpin, to the frustration of his Championship lead falling apart in Jakarta, with Pascal Wehrlein back in the winners circle and Maxi Gunther taking Maserati's first poles in Formula E and Maserati's first single-seater win in 63 years! And with it, we deal with a Jakarta round that had the sport change the format due to concerns the first race was too much of a sprint, and extensions to the Attack Mode requirements. And, a five-way title fight with just five races to go. Who do we think is back in control? All that and more on a clean-up edition of Motorsport101!
Maximilian Guenther and Pascal Wehrlein made Jakarta a German fiefdom last weekend as the Maserati MSG and Porsche drivers stole the show with a win apiece. Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt decipher how they did it and how Guenther in particular dominated so many sessions and then the second race in the sultry Indonesian conditions. Nick Cassidy's messy weekend is also dissected, as is Mitch Evans' herculean third place, which came just a day after he was drop-kicked out of contention by his own teammate Sam Bird, for a second time this season. Jake Dennis' recent form has looked ominous and with his happy hunting ground of the London ExCeL Arena track to come at the end of July, Sam and Andrew discuss whether or not this makes him the title favourite. The recent departure of Formula E CEO Jamie Reigle is also mulled over as the all-electric world championship now enters a new epoch under the stewardship of new CEO, Jeff Dodds. Formula E enjoyed another stellar weekend in Berlin, as the Tempelhof circuit delivered a pair of stunningly close, overtaking filled races. Joining host Jack Nicholls and The Race's Andrew van de Burgt to discuss the ins and outs of his weekend and his impressive season to date is NEOM McLaren driver Jake Hughes. He outlines why he and the team struggled in Berlin, gives his thoughts on his rookie season so far, and explains how Hankook's tyres faired in wet weather. Jack and Andrew then dissect the rest of the action, including Nick Cassidy's pair of impressive outings, ABT CUPRA's shock front-row lockout, and Pascal Wehrlein's dwindling championship lead. They also discuss whether the closely bunched pack racing we've seen recently - including in Germany - is here to stay, or whether the trend will be bucked in Monaco next time out... A hectic and entertaining first ever Hyderabad EPrix is digested and analysed by host Jack Nicholls, Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt. Jean-Eric Vergne tore up the recent formbook by giving the new DS Penske alliance its maiden ever victory. But how did he do it? The catastrophic intra-Jaguar debacle is picked apart, as is the complicated penalty that denied Sebastien Buemi a podium and elevated Antonio Felix da Costa to his first podium appearance for Porsche. His teammate and championship points leader Pascal Wehrlein went from a hospital bed to fourth place all within 24 Hours and he talks to The Race about his rollercoaster of a few days in India. Also appearing are Jaguar and Envision team bosses James Barclay and Sylvain Filippi as they react to how their events faired. Our trio of experts also give opinions on the often farcical track limits debate, the incident that scuppered Jake Dennis and the entertaining menagerie of feral animals that circulated the track. In the 87th edition of the FEZ Show, Jack Giordmaina, Jack Pickering and special guest Joshua Burch reflect on the double header in Saudi Arabia, in which Pascal Wehrlein beat Jake Dennis to victory two days in a row to snatch the championship lead, Sam Bird and Rene Rast were back on podium, and Sebastien Buemi took his first pole position in three seasons, before Jake Hughes took his first ever FE pole. Meanwhile DS Penske, Maserati and Mahindra struggled. The trio also previews what to expect from the inaugural Hyderabad E-Prix in India this Saturday.
Formula E is back! And there wasn't a struggle to be found as Jake Dennis retained his scintillating form at the end of the 2022 season with one of the most dominant wins in series history as Gen3 got underway in Mexico City! Jake Dennis won by 7 seconds with Porsche's in 1st, 2nd and 4th as Pascal Wehrlein passed some f***ing cars to get to second, and then Andre Lotterer in 4th in the second Andretti. With the pre-season talking hinting about DS Powertrains being at the top, this was an upset! And we gotta give Jake Hughes his flowers for a damn good McLaren debut in the leading group, and Sasha Fenestraz for making the duels at the first time of asking. And Lucas Di Grassi ended up on pole. With Mahindra's at both ends of the grid. Because even when things change in Formula E, chaos still reigns. All of that and more on another, Motorsport101!
