Why You Should Have An External Hard Drive

EPISODE 13: WHY HAVE A HARD DRIVE? 1.     NEVER RUN OUT OF SPACE ON YOUR COMPUTER AGAIN-I cannot tell you how many times I have had photographers come to me and tell me that they are so tired of running out of space on their computer. There is a better way to do things friends! Buying an external hard drive will keep you from having to make more space constantly. Gone are the days of being unorganized today is the day that you are going to go out and buy an external hard drive! 2.     HARD DRIVES FAIL – Yes you heard me! If you learn anything from this podcast it should be that computers and hard drives fail! Be prepared. So many photographers have lost work and had to make that shameful call to their clients explaining what happened. Don't let that be you. Make sure that you are backing up to at least one other place. I recommend buying two – three hard drives at the beginning of each year. That way you can mirror copy to each. If one hard drive fails, you will have an identical copy to pick up right where you left off. Just think; if you have a hard drive that has three years of images on it and It fails you will lose far more than a hard drive that only has one year's worth of images.   3.     CATALOGS BEGIN TO GLITCH WHEN THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE – Did you know that when you run out of space on your computer that you hard drives will begin to fail. This is the most common reason why Lightroom catalogs begin to glitch and fail. Make sure to check your hard drive to see if it is too full on a regular basis to avoid the frustration of having to re edit any work because your hard drive failed. If you are wondering how to do this, I teach this in the Ultimate Guide to Lightroom & Hard Drive Organization. This eBook will teach you how to;  -       Choose the right hard drive for you -       Reformat your new hard drive-       Create a Lightroom Catalog-       Create a Lightroom Import preset-       How to store your preset with your catalog-       How to back up and be safe with your hard drive-       The dos and don'ts of your hard drive-       And most importantly; HOW TO NEVER LOSE ANYTHING AGAIN! 4.     ORGANIZATION – Did you know that one of Lightroom's key features is organization? Yes, Lightroom is mostly known for its editing capabilities but my favorite part is the ability to create collections and collection sets. Next Gen Video Game Theory By Nick Awesome
PS5 External Hard Drive Update

Next Gen Video Game Theory By Nick Awesome

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 14, 2021 3:37

The PS 5 just recently got storage for its system, and I think it's just unacceptable for systems to be released without external storage, especially since they're getting like $500 of our money each time or if you bought it on eBay, even more. The idea that new video game systems do not have external hard drive storage starting out, just seems absolutely unacceptable. I know there are technical issues, but honestly, every computer can use a USB port to hard drive. There is no reason why the PS five should have been released without a hard drive in it. That allows external hard drives. This is just a way to drive sales for the system and almost seems like it's a very simple software update that every computer can handle. I don't understand why the PS five had to wait so long to get a hard drive system in place that could hold games. I've also heard that there's some limited features to even having the hard drive, it's not even on par with the ps4. There has to be a better way in the future, to bring these systems together when it comes to external hard drives, when gaming companies stop the use of external hard drives, it causes problems for gamers, they run out of space, very quickly. This is why it's also important to allow this to be there, then people will buy more of your games in the long run because they'll have space on their hard drives, as we go into a more digital world, external hard drives have to be an option. I'm sorry gaming companies should not be charging more for a 500 gigabyte hard drive that is considered very small at this point in time. These are just thoughts, but the idea that a hard drive is still not part of the system when you buy it, that you can't just plug in our hard drive and our next generation system is just simply old technology, and it almost seems kind of greedy. There needs to be a way, and the future, especially since we're going to a more digital economy is stop such moments where companies are able to get away with not having an external hard drive. If they're going to charge for digital games like they are now, and people want to have these on their systems. It takes up space and hard drives, need to be there for those digital games. So there is absolutely no reason why gaming companies should be holding back with external hard drives and they should be providing that support. Because it's needed. people use external hard drives for their games because they're more reliable than just an SD card. The newer next generation systems don't support, SD cards. This makes it even more important that there is support for external hard drives. Now I'm not even gonna go Nintendo Switch and how hard is to get stuff off their systems hard drive. In the end, it's totally up to the gaming companies, but from a marketing perspective, it seems smart if you're trying to push digital to allow external hard drives from the get go. And not waiting almost six months before it's even available and not having full features. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nextgengame/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nextgengame/support

This is episode #6 of the Camera and Inspiration show at “PPN - Photo Podcast Network” for September 2017.   This show is sponsored by B&H: bit.ly/bhphotodeals   Marco picks this month inspirational photographer: Gerda Taro (1910 - 1937) is known as the first female war photographer. She learned photography in her exile city of Paris, from a man that she fell in love with and who later called himself Robert Capa. They both passionately photographed during the Spanish civil war 1936. They wanted to fight with their cameras for the republic and against Franco and his regime. Many of the photos that were published under Capa’s name were actually captured by Taro. But at the time they were able to sell the images better under Capa’s name. That’s the reason why Gerda Taro was forgotten by history for many years. She died during a photo reportage in the Spanish civil war in 1937 and should be remembered for her contribution in documenting this event and most likely even for making Robert Capa famous and successful.   Marco shares some of his experiences after the tips that Scott gave us on the previous episode on how to become better at bird photography.   After the recent Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and wildfires that affected regions where a lot of PPN listeners live, we decided on doing a feature on protecting your most valuable possessions regarding your photography - your valuable images. Product tip: Start with recent SD cards: https://bhpho.to/2fzP4ej   What should you do in order to protect your images in camera or while you are on the road? Product tip: WD My Passport Wireless Pro USB 3.0 https://bhpho.to/2wYguSA   How can you establish a safe and efficient workflow when transferring your images to your productive environment at home or in your studio. What are some options to get a fast productive setup if you don’t have the budget to go all SSD for work speed? Product tip: Icy Dock ICYRaid 2-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Enclosure: https://bhpho.to/2wXmTNL   How to back up on location and how to store on location that you have a minimum layer of protection for your images? Product tip: WD 4TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive: https://bhpho.to/2fB06QE   What are different options to get a good offsite backup stored securely outside of your house or town? Product tip: Synology DiskStation DS216-II 2-Bay NAS Enclosure: https://bhpho.to/2wWOLSq   Scott’s inspirational photo book of the month is called: “Portraits by Steve McCurry” http://de.phaidon.com/store/photography/steve-mccurry-portraits-2nd-edition-9780714865379/#tab-2   Please support our show by using our B&H affiliate link (click here) that will not cost you a penny more than when you are buying at B&H without our link. And the more this link will be used to buy at B&H, the more giveaways we’ll be able to give back to our listeners through B&H. Is there anything that you want us to cover on the show in the future? And we would appreciate if you could take a short moment to rate or post a quick review about our shows on iTunes.   For more information on Scott Bourne follow him on Twitter: @ScottBourne For more information on Marco Larousse follow him on Twitter: @HamburgCam   About this show: On the monthly “Camera and Inspiration” podcast show of the PPN - Photo Podcast Network, Scott and Marco discuss the essence of photography and how to photograph with more intent. Determining the “why” before the “how” in photography is essential to understanding your subject better and create stronger images. In each episode, they introduce you to an inspirational photographer of the month and also share an inspirational photo book of the month.
