A 68. adás vendége Kudász Gábor Arion fotográfus, oktató, a Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem docense..Arion az alkotásán és az egyetemhez kapcsolódó tevékenységén keresztül kiemelkedően fontos szerepet játszik a magyar fotográfia helyzetének és nemzetközi megítélésének előremozdításában. Művészcsaládba született, gyerekkorától szívta magába az alkotói légkört és igen korán eldöntötte, hogy a fényképezéssel szeretne komolyabban foglalkozni. A Magyar Iparművészeti Egyetemen (a MOME elődjén) tanult fotográfiát, ahol 2003-ban diplomázott le, majd az oktatásra is lehetőséget kapott. 2014 és 2025 között vezette a fotográfia mesterképzést, 2017 óta témavezető a MOME Doktori Iskolájában, irányítása alatt 2022-ben állt át a fotográfus mesterképzés angol nyelvre. Arion fotográfiai munkái megrendezett és fiktív elemeket építenek be hosszú távú dokumentarista projektekbe, amelyeket a honlapján részletesen bemutatva is láttok. Javaslom, az adás előtt vessetek erre egy pillantást, különösen legújabb, Tropical Depression című munkájára, melyből nemrég könyv is készült és amelyet az adásban részletesen górcső alá veszünk.Eredményeit számos díjjal és ösztöndíjjal ismerték el, többek között 2013-ban a Magyar Köztársaság Balogh Rudolf-díjával, 2015-ben Robert Capa-nagydíjjal, 2018-ban a Magyar Művészeti Akadémia ösztöndíjával, 2021-ben pedig részt vett az egy díjjal felérő Saari Residence programban. Arion művei nemzetközi kiállításokon láthatók és magánkiadásban fotókönyveket is megjelentet..Az adás első részében kérdeztem őt a már említett, Vietnámban készült Tropical Depression anyag és könyv kalandos történetéről. Ennek kapcsán mesélt a fiatal generáció élethelyzetéről; gyermekeiről és a családi dinamikákról; az alkotásban felmerülő nehézségek és kudarcok kezeléséről; Vietnámról és arról is, hogyan jelenik meg a valóság és az igazság kérdésköre a fotográfiai gondolkodásban. The movie is Civil War (2024), and, to hear director Alex Garland tell it, it's a dire warning of how things could turn out in the US sometime soon. But to Dan and Patrick it's also something else – at once a symptom, a product of underlying anxieties, and a fantasy, a story that's as revealing in what it sets out to portray explicitly as in what it obscures or avoids.  And so, after walking through the film's plot and visual grammar (spoiler alert: there are spoilers after 1:05:00), they turn to the recurrent invocations of looming “civil war” in American discourse. How do our fantasies – and not just Garland's – relate to the actual and “official” US Civil War of 1861-1865, and how do they distort the history of that conflict? For audiences sitting in a movie theater deep within the imperial core, what's is and isn't imaginable in terms of a “civil war,” and why must we, like Garland, turn to images of violence abroad in order to dramatize it?  What would another civil war actually look like in the contemporary US – and what do our anxious expectations of it in the future, as well as our fixations on fantasies about the past, betray about us and our moment in the here and now? Taro in turn helped sell his photos and build his reputation. Together, they went to Spain to report on the civil war from the front lines. De ces années noires, on retient souvent la participation du personnel politique, des administrations, des entreprises ou encore de la milice française. Pourtant, l'une des images symboliques de la collaboration et de sa condamnation représente une femme anonyme : La tondue de Chartres. Cette femme, photographiée par Robert Capa en 1944, est devenue une figure de la collaboration “horizontale”, qui désigne les Françaises qui ont pris des allemands pour amants. L'épuration violente et spontanée contre ces femmes a pu occulter dans les mémoires les rôles extrêmement variés des femmes dans la collaboration. Loin d'être l'apanage des hommes, des femmes artistes, mondaines, intellectuelles comme Arletty ou Coco Chanel, ont collaboré avec l'Occupant. D'autres profils, les filles de ou femmes de collaborateur comme Josée Laval de Chambrun, la fille de Pierre Laval, interrogent. À l'heure de la révolution nationale, qui circonscrit les femmes à l'espace domestique, comment définir le rôle tenu par celles qui sont les proches des collaborateurs ? Mais Joëlle Dusseau et Pierre Brana ne s'arrêtent pas là. Dans leur livre, ils mettent au jour ces milliers de femmes anonymes, qui ont participé à une collaboration du quotidien à diverses échelles. Ces femmes ont pratiqué la délation, se sont engagées dans la milice, ont espionné au profit de l'Occupant… La question de la motivation des collaboratrices reste un point central :  pourquoi, alors même que l'idéologie nazie est délétère pour les femmes, ces dernières choisissent de se mettre à son service ?  L'invitée :  Agrégée d'histoire et docteur ès lettres, Joëlle Dusseau concilie une carrière politique dans l'Éducation nationale à une production d'ouvrages historiques abondante. Avec Pierre Brana, elle écrit sur des politiques et des syndicalistes, et leurs itinéraires dans la collaboration et la Résistance. On peut citer par exemple sa biographie du collaborateur Philippe Doriot parue en 2017. Dès l'Occupation commence l'épuration qui s'abat sur les collaborationnistes et punit les femmes là où elles ont péché avec l'ennemi : en s'attaquant à leur corps. Parmi ces femmes on retrouve la Tondue de Chartres, immortalisée à la Libération le 16 août 1944 par Robert Capa et devenue le symbole de l'épuration d'après-guerre. Henri Cartier-Bresson prend ses quartiers d'été en Bretagne dans le Finistère nord. C'est à Landerneau que se niche le fonds Hélène et Édouard Leclerc, où une exposition monographique est programmée tous les ans. Après la peinture et le street art, c'est la première fois qu'une exposition y est dédiée à la photographie. Et c'est un parcours chronologique qui est proposé où l'on part sur les traces de celui qui a été surnommé « l'œil du siècle » et qui a parcouru le monde. Quand on pense Henri Cartier-Bresson, on pense à la notion d'instant décisif qui fait la force de ses clichés. Mais pour Clément Chéroux, le commissaire de l'exposition, il y a plusieurs Cartier-Bresson.« Cette exposition, qui présente 300 photographies dans un ordre plutôt chronologique, parcourt le XXe siècle. Elle montre qu'au-delà du Cartier-Bresson bien connu, de ses chefs-d'œuvre, il y a un photographe surréaliste au début des années 1930, un photographe qui crée la fameuse agence Magnum avec Robert Capa après la Seconde Guerre mondiale », explique Clément Chéroux.Il parcourt le monde et se retrouve aux moments clés de l'histoire aux premières loges. Une chance ? Pas seulement.« Cartier-Bresson était quelqu'un qui lisait beaucoup la presse. Tous les matins, il lisait les journaux et il était très au courant des affaires du monde, dans son pays, mais aussi à l'étranger. Ce qui explique qu'il était très souvent au bon endroit, au bon moment, précise le commissaire de l'exposition. Au moment de l'assassinat de Gandhi à New Delhi, au moment où Mao Zedong arrive au pouvoir en Chine, à Cuba, juste après la crise des missiles... Il y avait chez lui une très grande perception de là où il fallait être pour un photographe qui, essentiellement à cette époque-là, travaille avec la presse. »Saisir l'instantUn photographe qui aime aussi beaucoup déambuler et saisir ainsi l'instant singulier. Comme dans cette image, parmi les nombreuses photos iconiques qu'on peut voir dans l'exposition. Elle est intitulée « Derrière la gare Saint-Lazare ». Il l'a prise en 1932.« Cartier-Besson vient tout juste d'acheter un petit appareil Leica, considéré à l'époque comme un appareil miniature, très léger. Il voit entre deux planches de chantier un homme qui saute au-dessus d'une flaque d'eau. C'est une image où, à l'instant d'avant, le personnage n'aurait pas été en suspension dans l'espace, dans une position quasiment de danse, qui fait écho à une affiche représentant une danseuse en arrière-plan. L'histoire a préféré retenir le nom de son compagnon, Robert Capa. La vie de Gerda Taro est pourtant tout à fait exceptionnelle. Première femme reporter de guerre et la première journaliste photographe à couvrir un conflit armé, elle s'est engagée contre le fascisme au péril de sa vie. Gerda Taro, née Gerta Pohorylle, voit le jour en Allemagne, en 1910. Sa jeunesse est marquée par l'ascension du parti nazi, contre lequel elle n'hésite pas à militer. Lorsqu'Hitler arrive au pouvoir, la jeune femme est immédiatement arrêtée. Relâchée après 17 jours de prison, elle décide de quitter l'Allemagne pour Paris. La France est en proie aussi bien à la crise économique qu'à une activité intellectuelle bouillonnante. C'est dans ce contexte que Gerta rencontre André Friedmann, le futur Robert Capa. Le photographe a lui aussi fui son pays, la Hongrie. Entre les deux, c'est le coup de foudre. Ils partagent les mêmes idées politiques, le goût de l'indépendance et la passion de la photographie. Alors que le couple commence à se faire un nom dans la profession naissante de photojournaliste, ils décident de trouver des noms plus marquants. Robert Capa et Gerda Taro sont nés et multiplient les aller-retours en Espagne où la guerre civile vient d'éclater. Les clichés, tous deux les signent au début du seul patronyme "Capa", ce qui complique l'attribution des photos à l'un ou à l'autre. En juillet 1937, alors que Capa rentre en France, Gerda reste en Espagne pour documenter la guerre dans le village de Brunete où les Républicains viennent de triompher. Ses photos sont publiées dans l'hebdomadaire Regards sous son nom. Aveuglée par sa passion, elle est écrasée par un char et ne survit pas à ses blessures. Au cimetière du Père Lachaise, près de 10 000 personnes viennent lui rendre hommage. La France célèbre cette semaine le 80ème anniversaire du Débarquement et de la Libération. Plus de 150 000 Américains, Canadiens et Britanniques accostent sur les plages normandes le 6 juin 1944. Omaha Beach, Utah Beach sont gravés dans notre histoire. Embarqués avec les soldats, des reporters de guerre comme Robert Capa ont rapporté des clichés iconiques. Mais il y a eu aussi des soldats caméramen et photographes, anonymes, chargés de rendre compte du débarquement. Un documentariste français, Dominique Forget, spécialiste de cette période, a décidé de leur rendre hommage en mettant des noms sur ces films et ces clichés; il a retrouvé les bobines tournées par plusieurs d'entre eux et en a fait un documentaire.Pour en parler, Sur Le Fil a invité Dominique Forget et Carmen Cuesta-Roca, journaliste de l'AFP à Washington qui a rencontré les descendants de ces "cameramen". Un album exceptionnel, Capa a été le seul photographe présent sur la plage d'Omaha Beach lors du D-Day. Ses images sont entrées dans l'histoire. Il a ensuite suivi les troupes alliées jusqu'à Berlin. Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado is best known for his captivating black and white photographs. He has documented scenes of hardship and desperation in times of war and famine; he has explored global labour and migration; and he has captured the wonders of the natural world. Salgado has worked in more than 120 countries over the last 50 years, and is now regarded as one of the all time greats of photography. His images are in the collections of museums and galleries around the world, he won the prestigious Premium Imperiale arts prize in 2021 and was the 2024 recipient of the Sony World Photography Award for outstanding achievement.Raised on this a cattle farm in eastern Minas Gerais state, an early formative experience was leaving home for the city of Vitória in 1960. It was here, watching ships dock from all around the world, that he first felt the desire to travel. It's also where he met his wife Lélia who is his curator and editor. He began a promising career as an economist but switched to photography in the early 1970s, after he and Lélia bought their first camera on holiday. Joining the Magnum agency, the international cooperative of photographers, in 1979 allowed him to refine his craft with the help and advice of photography greats such as Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Salgado tells John Wilson about some of his most famous photo series, including those on the theme of manual labour which he called Workers; and Exodus, the stories of global migration. Covering the Rwandan genocide in 1994 as well as years of photographing refugees from wars, natural disasters and poverty finally took its toll on Salgado's health. He stopped photographing and returned to Brazil, where he and Lélia began reforesting his father's farm, now transformed into a National Park of lush vegetation called Instituto Terra. The success of this venture led to Salgado returning to photography, this time seeking out beauty and landscapes in series called Genesis, his love letter to the planet. Producer: Edwina Pitman

The movie is Civil War (2024), and, to hear director Alex Garland tell it, it's a dire warning of how things could turn out in the US sometime soon. But to Dan and Patrick it's also something else – at once a symptom, a product of underlying anxieties, and a fantasy, a story that's as revealing in what it sets out to portray explicitly as in what it obscures or avoids.  And so, after walking through the film's plot and visual grammar (spoiler alert: there are spoilers after 1:05:00), they turn to the recurrent invocations of looming “civil war” in American discourse. How do our fantasies – and not just Garland's – relate to the actual and “official” US Civil War of 1861-1865, and how do they distort the history of that conflict? For audiences sitting in a movie theater deep within the imperial core, what's is and isn't imaginable in terms of a “civil war,” and why must we, like Garland, turn to images of violence abroad in order to dramatize it?  What would another civil war actually look like in the contemporary US – and what do our anxious expectations of it in the future, as well as our fixations on fantasies about the past, betray about us and our moment in the here and now? Corinne Dufka is an American photojournalist, human rights researcher, criminal investigator, and psychiatric social worker.Following completion of her master's degree in social work, Corinne worked as a humanitarian volunteer and social worker in Latin America. She volunteered with Nicaraguan refugees during the country's revolution, and with victims of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake. She then moved to El Salvador as a social worker with the Lutheran church. While in El Salvador, Corinne became close with local photojournalists, and was asked by the director of a local human rights organization to launch a program to document human rights abuses through photography.Over the course of her subsequent twelve year career as a photojournalist she covered more than a dozen of the world's bloodiest armed conflicts across three continents and was honored with the Robert Capa gold medal; a World Press Club Award; a Pulitzer nomination; and the Courage in Journalism Award.In 1998 Corinne went to Nairobi, Kenya to cover the bombing of the American Embassy. She arrived hours after the blast, and was deeply frustrated by 'missing the scoop.' Later, upon watching the news coverage of the attack, Corinne realized that she had lost “compassion” for the subjects of her work, and resolved to end her career as a photojournalist.After leaving photojournalism, Corinne joined Human Rights Watch, a non-governmental organization. In 2003, she was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, alternatively known as a ‘genius grant', for her journalistic and documentary work documenting the 'devastation' of Sierra Leone and the conflict's toll on human rights.Corinne left HRW in 2022 and is now an independent researcher and advisor, focusing on helping countries mitigate the risk of armed conflict. Corinne has a daughter and a foster son and lives in Maryland with her four dogs.
