Join us for a perfect hair day as we sit down with Frederic Fekkai, founder of his iconic hair care range that has been creating and inspiring beautiful hair since its inception! FEKKAI originated at the salon in 1989, when there was the lack of high-quality hair care products at the time - in particular, color care. Women were leaving the salon with beautiful hair color and returning with faded, oxidized colored hair in a matter of weeks. That inspired him to create Technician Color, which has always remained a favorite. Professional luxury hair hair care didn't exist - there was a gap in the prestige market, particularly in areas like color care, and saw an opportunity to offer solutions that were missing at the time. From the start it has always been about the skinification of hair care, the sensorality of the formulations and the experience using the product matched with unprecedented professional results. Frédéric embarked on a journey that fused innovation with expertise. Frédéric's style is inspired by the French way of life - it is about capturing the beauty of each individual person, however effortlessly chic, working with the natural hair they have. He dared to transcend boundaries and carve out his own niche. The French influence does not end with just the Parisian style - Being from Aix-en-Provence, he was inspired to create a brand that uses simple natural ingredients we find in French heritage, like Olive Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Shea Butter. At the heart of the produt line lies a synergy between the most high-quality natural ingredients and groundbreaking formula innovation in clean science. Frédéric and the FEKKAI stylists test each formula on actual clients in the salons. The products extend beyond functionality; they encompass an entire sensory experience. From the delightful aroma to the luxurious textures and the captivating sensation during application, every aspect is meticulously designed to create a holistic experience that embodies our luxurious salon experience in every use.As a brand deeply rooted in luxury and heritage, next year will be FEKKAI's 35th anniversary. Frederic and the team are digging into the archives and bringing back the initial brand DNA and codes of the past. Sponsored by Olivia Gardenhttps://store.oliviagarden.com/pages/superhpInterview with Frédéric FekkaiProvence-born and Paris-trained, Frédéric Fekkai opened his first ground-breaking namesake salon atop New York's Bergdorf Goodman department store in 1989 and today has the most recognized and luxurious hair salons in New York. During this time, he quickly became known for creating hairstyles on the catwalk, magazine covers and red carpets for notable supermodels and celebrities. In 1995, Frédéric created the prestige hair category with the launch of his product line, raising the industry standard from commodity to luxury by incorporating high performance ingredients found in prestige skincare, further enhanced by partnerships with the world's leading fragrance formulators. FEKKAI was acquired in 2006 by Procter & Gamble. Now, with a powerhouse standalone salon in Soho and an iconic salon within The Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side, Frédéric Fekkai has reclaimed his namesake brand, and re-launched FEKKAI with a new mission. He has created a high performance, clean collection of haircare that shatters the myths that clean products are less performative. With the brand's commitment to eliminate plastic waste by using high percentages of PCR in their recyclable bottles and tubes, and the latest product innovations, with three earth friendly, non-ozone depleting aerosols powered with Solstice® Propellant technology, he has sought out to do just that. In this episode of the Success Fundamentals Podcast, Kris Sykes and Brian Goldsack talk to Frederic Fekkai, a titan in the beauty industry who has worked with names such as Madonna, Sharon Stone, and even Hillary Clinton. Frederic, who originally hails from Aix-en-Provence, a small city in Southeast France, uprooted himself from a relatively comfortable life to pursue the beauty industry in New York City. He talks about achieving greatness through hard work, persistence, and trusting his vision. He found one of his greatest successes by following his entrepreneurial vision of creating luxury hair care products, which in the 80s were considered a commodity. In this episode, we take a glimpse on the inner workings of Frederic's mind, and hopefully pick up a few business and life lessons from the hairstylist to the rich and famous. HIGHLIGHTSGrowing up in the beauty of Aix-en-Provence, FranceA detour with law school and getting acquainted with the beauty industryPursuing the dream in New York CityElevating hair care into a luxuryHow to be the hair stylist for the rich and famous Beauty is about self confidenceGetting a reputation boost from Hillary ClintonKeep your integrity: it pays offIs vanity bad?People don't buy stories, not products Build and take care of your teamAlways be curious and innovativeMoney can help change people's lives for the betterPower needs to be helpfulQUOTESFrederic "When I went back to my roots and met the friends that I went to university or school with, I see them having a great job, whether it's doctors or lawyers, or whatever. And looking at their life, it's a very comfortable life but that's not what I wanted. I really wanted to be noticed. Not to be famous, but I wanted to be known for somebody that did something special." Frederic: "I'm not in the business just to make money. I mean, yes, that's great and that's the first intent. But the most important thing for me was to have a business that really moved the needle and get people's attention."Frederic: "Beautiful is about self-confidence. It's about accepting who you are and using tools whether it's hair, makeup, skin care, accessories, to enhance that. That doesn't make somebody beautiful. I give them, first of all, the sense of who they are and why they are beautiful. If they accept that first, it's easy. If they're really not happy with who they are, that's my job. I need to make them understand that they should be happy with who they are." Frederic: "I was not that famous for just doing incredible hair. Because a lot of stylists were doing that. And sometimes, to be honest with you, [they were] much more talented than ours. But those stylists were doing things that customers couldn't reproduce. The magic is I was doing beautiful hair that's beautiful enough for them to reproduce at home."Frederic: "Vanity is not bad. Vanity is about feeling good, feeling confident. Vanity is important. I would rather have someone who is vain, than someone who is neglecting their own personal look. When you're vain, you're making an effort. Just that by itself is a positive thing."Follow Frederic on the following links below: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric-fekkai/Follow Success Fundamentals on the following links below: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4XCvuwxnFi5_7C6Ncm12xQLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/success-fundamentals™Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/successfundamentalspodcastInstagram: https://instagram.com/successfundamentalspodcast

Passionnant! Enjoy

When I sat with Frédéric in his office on Park avenue, he told me that in 1989, when he opened his first salon atop New York’s Bergdorf Goodman Department store, he really wanted to do something different and new in the Beauty industry. So, he created the first luxury experience in haircare. And It’s still about revealing the unique beauty of everyone who sits in his chair.
Women of a certain age know the name of this hair legend: Frédéric Fekkai. Get ready to hear the backstory behind the dashing Frenchman and former model who was among the first to charge hundreds of dollars for a haircut in Manhattan. In his heyday, Frédéric was called upon by Hollywood royalty like Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey— at one Academy Awards show, he worked on three nominees in one night! His eponymous haircare brand was also among the original hairstylist-backed brands, and it would become coveted for its anti-grunge, Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream, bringing that salon suave to top shelves across the continent. (Carlene even recalls one swanky press trip when she was helicoptered to Frédéric’s estate in Upstate New York!) But after selling his self-titled haircare business in 2008, the brand lost its cool factor. In today’s episode, Frédéric explains why he recently bought back his own brand—and details his plans for re-inventing the House of Fekkai to compete with the Ouai’s and Brigeo’s of this world. Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, Frédéric never retired for long though. Meet the clean beauty brand born from his roots in the South of France, called Bastide. What began as a small assortment of artisanal, luxe-y perfumes, hand washes and body creams sold at high end department stores Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew, the highly giftable brand is ready to take on skincare this fall. Frédéric talks to us about shifting his focus from hair to face; he also explains the right* way to blow-dry your hair; and he shares some knee-slapping stories about his stylish travels working with the likes of Martha Stewart (pre & post-penitentiary) along the way. When Frederic Fekkai was a young man, he had no intention of entering the beauty space. In fact, he didn't even know it existed. Shortly after this discovery, Fekkai quit law school, moved to Paris and threw himself into the world of beauty. He began to work fashion shows and photoshoots, and establish meaningful connections with some of the top players in the industry. Over the course of the next four decades, Fekkai would go on to establish and sell his own namesake company, buy and rebrand Côté Bastide to Bastide, and, most recently, buy back Frederic Fekkai. On this week's episode of The Glossy Beauty Podcast, beauty editor Priya Rao talks to Fekkai live at the Glossy Beauty x Wellness Summit about how he got his start in the industry, what it was like to build and sell his namesake company, and why he says up-and-coming brands should stop ripping off Chanel.

Jane’s guest today is the internationally acclaimed style expert and celebrity stylist, Frédéric Fekkai. For over three decades, he has been a dominant force in shaping the global beauty landscape while setting the gold standard for casual elegance and elan. A true visionary and innovator, he created a hair care empire that included seven luxury namesake salons across the country and was also the first to develop an entirely new category of couture-level hair care, that continues to thrive today. His clients included major stars, supermodels, media moguls, trendsetters and social influencers. His credo? The simplest and most natural styles are the most beautiful. He has now turned his passion and enthusiasm to making our entire lives Better Than Before. He and his stunning wife, Shirin von Wulffen, acquired Côté Bastide, a 25-year-old lifestyle brand from his hometown of Aix-en-Provence in the South of France. The couple recently relaunched the business as Bastide, a beauty and lifestyle collection inspired by the wellness philosophy of Provence and founded on a commitment to artisanship and to clean, toxin-free living. On today’s show, Frédéric will share the wonders of Provence, along with his personal suggestions on how to achieve a lifestyle that is filled with exquisiteness, exuberance and extraordinary beauty, health and well-being.
Frédéric Fekkai and Shirin von Wulffen, the married couple behind Provençal bath and body line Bastide, talk with Jess about slow beauty and explain why the laissez-faire French girl beauty thing is a sham.
